Convent Girl is Shi Lin's (aka Shi-chan
or the Syaoran no Miko) pita. New
layouts almost always give her a
p.i.t.a, yes, but she manages somehow. XP
Shi Lin:
a) lives in Singapore
b) really IS a convent girl, go figure. :p
c) was born on 22/07 (prezzie? <3)
d) likes 70s-80s, new age, metal, alternative and J-rock
e) thinks Britney Spears and her fellow poppers should be hurled off a cliff
f) hearts bishies, be they shonen
or seinen, m/m, writing, NP, canoes,
guns and cool tints
g) turns white whenever she sees
flying bugs bigger than her thumb -_-v
e) gives thanks for a whole day if she passes Physics or Maths
h) is older than SOME people think
she is. XD

# november 14, 2001 #
>.> : viva me.
A final entry before I go crash (sugoku nemui ><):
<pseudo-rant> For the uninitiated: the 'Fang' in Li Fang is read as 'Fahng', not
'fang' as in English. Tuo Ren is something like 'Twor Rern'. Xiang Lin's 'Xiang' is like
'Shiang', very crisp on the 'Sh'. Hu Lei, sad though it is, goes rather like 'Who Lay'.
*snert* Na Sha is as 'Nah Shah' - I go all squicky if you read 'Sha' as 'Sher'. (On that
note, FYI to anyone who cares: my own 'Shi' isn't read like the 'shi' in Jap - the closest
I can get to in English syllables is 'Shir'. :p) Barring the sound number you need to read the pinyin with, that's just about decent. Before scoffing, I say that I was taught
that it's blatantly disrespectful to pronounce a person's name incorrectly. Even if its
reading is beyond you, at least TRY to get it right. This is something that just about
ALWAYS jars me. I was awfully irritated at the announcers at last year's Olympics who kept
getting all the names of the Asians wrong, especially the ones of the China athletes. If
they got the names of athletes from other nationalities wrong too, at least they sounded
better. >p I wouldn't know about the Asians at that time, but I'd find it demoralising
that no one cared about how my name sounded. And I especially hate it when westerners here
so obviously don't give shit about how the local pinyin/dialect names should be spoken.
It's, like, basic courtesy to ask someone how their name should be read if you don't know,
okay? Please. I could read 'Elizabeth' as 'Eh-lee-zar-bet' and put it down to my
unsophisticated dialect-tinged accent, but I don't. Neither do I read 'Jeremiah' as
'Jeer-meeah' and shrug flippily when you glare. Everyone's name is special. Give everyone
some respect, PLEASE. Is all. Boom shanka, moi. </rant>
Report book being returned tomorrow. *cringes* Fwah.

# november 14, 2001 # np: Togenkyo - Saiyuki Image Album vol.3
XD : Jinjyu pix~!
Jinjyu is supposed to be based on Chinese history, but sensei got a headache
one-sixteenth of the way through and decided to pass. ^^; In any case, I'm very happy that
the Chinese pinyin of the charas' names are all correct, from what I've seen. More
authentic, and it doesn't grate on my ears. The charas make my day, cos Tuo Ren and Li
Fang are darlings, Xiang Lin and Hu Lei rock my world like crazy, and I *like* almost all
the females in Jinjyu - the vice-emperor, Na Sha and Li Fang's mother are such bright and
strong characters you can forgive them for taking the pretty men.
Jinjyu Houretsuden:
Li Fang(blond) and Tuo
Ren(brunette), the two main charas.
Shot of the five warriors on an
off-day, tank 7. Na Sha is the sole woman here.
Group shot with the emperor, Feng
Yu and Long. Kyaa~
I really heart how H_H Li Fang
looks here.
Li Fang, Tuo Ren and the panda,
'Green', whose pinyin name is untypable on my keyboard. >.>
I love these two. ^_^
Gorgeous cover on tank 11.
Li Fang, all tied up with partner
in front. Mm.
I heart Xiang Lin. I really do. I guess it's because it's the first time I've found a
manga chara with part of my name - the 'Lin' of my Chinese name is the exact same as his
'Lin', meaning a heavy rain that falls continuously during droughts. For myself, the 'Lin'
combined with the character 'Shi' for poetry is *supposed* to symbolise intelligence and
being well-versed in literary arts - the 'Lin' has a connotation of 'much' or 'very'. So
in Xiang Lin's case a basic translation of his name would be 'very fragrant'. ^_^ Hu Lei
agrees anyway - look at this
gorgeous pic of Hu Lei hugging Xiang Lin. Translation: (Xiang Lin: I tell you, Hu
Lei...can you not use me as a psychological tranquiliser because you're feeling restless
and can't calm down?
Hu Lei: Shut up! Give me your fragrance quietly!) XD XD Lin-er is such a darling - he was
brought up amongst girls and tends to behave like a pseudo-Nuriko, but he's happy being a
man. <3 He's fastidious, vain, sensitive, and refuses to cry in front of anyone but Hu
Lei, who is just as lovable as he is.
*nikoniko* I love my mother tongue, I honestly do. I love my traditional roots for the
intricacy, the depth, the absolute *richness* of their history and literature. And even if
Jinjyu isn't anywhere near a patch on some of the Chinese historical martial/fantasy
classics I've read, it's still lots of fun and eyecandy. Dakara daisuki desu yo.

^_^ : *niko*
Mucho happy howling in Nat-chan's house just
now, over, ahem, *things* in the Chinese-translated Slam Dunk manga (I STILL maintain they
coulda used 'peng you' to describe friends instead of 'tong zhi' which is like 'gay' in
Jap), various HanaRu/SenRuish moments and Akagi's awful hair in the earlier tanks. Saw the
P-Rhythm SenRu doujin - kireeei. I H_H Rukki lots. Truly. Sore ni! Scanned a whole bunch
of stuff from my Morimoto Shuw tanks, Saiyuuki Backgammon artbook, YouTai doujin and my WK
Gakken Mooks as well as the Koori artbook - Nat's Kyaful scanner is now officially
christened Anata. XD XD And pedo though I may sound, Nat no otouto is a bish. How can you
not love a kid called Sylvester?
Anyway, I'm gonna share the Morimoto Shuw luuuuv, ba~by. Selectively. (apologies: most
of the pic files are BIG. It took Nat and 3 virtue.nu accounts to store everything.
*squishglomps NatNat*)
G.Defend:
Ishikawa Haruka, kyoukan of
the police unit. No, aniki, he is NOT wearing leather lingerie. *snarl*
Iwase and Ishikawa, cover of tank
10. Iwase looks extra good here.
Group shot of various members of
the unit. H_H
Nice group shot, tank 8.
Nishiwaki(brunette) and the
Doctor(blond). *hearts*
Why Nishiwaki and Iwase shouldn't
wear hair gel. Especially Nishi-kun.
Ishikawa-kyoukan: version extra yummy!
I don't know why sensei likes big
ermine fur collars. I'm not complaining, though.
GORGEOUS tank 11 cover. Gorgeous.
I dig Nishi's hair.
More pics in next entry. <3

Chuuuu.
Bad cold yesterday and fever this morning, so kaasan allowed me to skip 4 hours of Chem
remedial in an air-con room cos I would have used up the whole tissue stock in the house.
Did I mention I have Very Sensitive Sinuses? Or sinii, or whatever the plural of a sinus
is? I therefore proclaim that if my supposed future husband ever starts smoking I will
file for a divorce. *piku* Oyaji really REALLY makes me angry when he comes into the
living room and lights up when I'm working on the PC - it always makes me cough and tear
up, but he expects ME to go away just because Traditional Asian Fathers Don't Give In To
Their Children. *snarl* I might move to the West one day. And Chinese Os sucked. I think
my compo was woefully out of context and it was narrative when they wanted descriptive.
Hell. (This is going to be a long post...) Mei-chan,
I forgot to tell you that I read NV two years ago, thought the art was a little wild and
all the charas Something Anorexic but you're right, the plot and storyline more than make
up for it. I do heart Seki and Haru - yay !fuckeduppasts. But book 5 looks as if it's
somewhere with book 5 of Clover, aka somewhere we'll never see it. Me back on AIM?
Hopefully next week - co-curricular activity's being a bitch (miss you too!) ;_; Some holidays.
Now I'm going to talk about G.Defend, Moriomoto Shuw's maiden series. Before that, let
me say that I am a huge fan of Morimoto-sensei's works - as a mangaka 'specialised' in m/m
her art style is overall very clean, with the lines and inking *balanced* so it makes me
feel the characters are 'firm' without being too delicately drifty *KOFFmurakami
sachiKOFF* or overdone *KOFFabe miyukiKOFF*. She goes more for biseinen than shounen - no
anorexic prettyboys from her. Refreshing, honestly. XD I like the way her couples are
always one dark-haired and one light-haired because of added visual appeal, and it makes
their juxtapositioning that bit more outstanding. And not only does she draw some very
nice scenes of seinen sucking face (amongst other parts), in both Jinjyu Houretsuden and
GD there's actually a sound plot and actual storyline progression, though you have to
ignore minor detail snags in order to appreciate the full thing. GD in particular has a
very well-rounded plot - you have love, friendship, family, enmity, action, drama, blood,
humour, angst and sex all rolled up in the tanks. *niko* Jinjyu is also excellent, but for
some reason it's almost exclusively s-ai (the word 'love' is only mentioned in context
with family and the sole woman >.>) except for one sidestory and a few suggestive
pics, so no sex. :p Maa ii saa.
Morimoto-sensei also has a bountiful cast of supporting charas in both her
'long-series' works (and the women are likeable!); even better than that, she makes
efforts to pay attention to everyone in terms of relationship and personal development so
everyone gets their fair share of screen time and we know everyone's there for a *purpose*
other than visual ornamentation, although I've sorta lost count of the GD charas. ^^; In
other words - everyone who sees her stuff (not only GD and Jinjyu, she has one mini-series
and one standalone tank out), I honestly encourage you to go look at it. It looks good and
reads good. No kidding. No extremities like in uberslashseries *KOFFsaiyuukiKOFF* and she
makes her charas say Ai Rabu Yu, but hoi - *I* get tired of !fuckedupness (aka angst and
blood and gore and fetishes and men fucking ten other men). I'm female, after all. Hook me
on feelings and subtlety, and to heck with reality. XP So go READ. (Meia-tachi, especially you, since we live in the
same country and CC stocks both Jinjyu and GD)
Now on to G.Defend. ^^;;;;; Basic plot: In AD 2002 Japan, terrorists are commiting
numerous acts of violence with technological advancements. To counter them, the national
council has set up an 'emergency police' force (I don't know how to translate this
properly >_>) headed by a 'kyoukan' or chief commander. This kyoukan is almost
always the terrorists' main target as the entire police force would likely crumble without
his direction. So far 7 kyoukan have died in the line of duty, but the 8th one, Ishikawa
Haruka, has survived thus far with the aid of his 'hosakan' or second commander, Special
Police Iwase Motohisa, who acts as his right-hand man and personal 24-hour bodyguard.
Iwase makes no secret that he fell head over ass for Ishikawa-kyoukan since he first
transferred from his LA training centre to Ishikawa himself, and will gladly sacrifice
himself to protect him. ("Please let me kiss you!" "No! Someone will
see!") Ishikawa himself is confused about Why The Hell Do You Like Me So Much and
upset that Iwase is always in danger when they're together. But he finally realises how
much he needs Iwase with him, and the story takes off after he secretly kisses Iwase when
he's asleep with a head wound from saving him one night.
No, I don't JUST like GD so much because I'm also a member of the school's police cadet
corps unit. XP I picked it up last week and only got round to reading on Monday, and I've
already finished the 11 tanks Chinese-translated so far. Heart it much much much for the
art, which gets better as the story moves, fast-moving plot and rich cast - Nishiwaki and
the Doctor rockass. ^_^ There are about 5 couples in the special police (99.9%
male-populated) unit the story shows, although it's actually a rule that members aren't
supposed to fall in love with one another as it might affect their work, and ALL get time
to touch and kiss and make me go Kyaa while reading. Cons? The plot and charas are a
little stiff at first - you want to SMACK Ishikawa when he keeps trying to shove Iwase
away, the stamina and unity of the police unit seems really rather too wonderful to be
true, and why do half the men want to molest Ishikawa-kyoukan? (though you can't blame
them :p) Iwase's unfulfilled libido scenes are Gya Ha Ha, though: (*kiss*BAGUN* "I
TOLD you not to put your tongue in! Bastard!") and on a whole I really enjoy how
their relationship progresses. In fact all the characters really *grow* throughout the
course of the story: Ishikawa learns to accept love, Iwase controls his bullishness, the
Doctor opens up, etc, etc. Except perhaps for Nishiwaki, who was already quite a developed
chara from the start. I love how Morimoto-sensei shows the graduation and *koff*fulfillment
of each couple's relationship in the main plot and sidestories, although she overdoes the
mush slightly in spots. Iwase's possessiveness makes up for it though, and Ishikawa is
nothing else but adorable when flustered over his koibito. <3
Dakara? Dakara, I'm waiting on teeterhooks for tanks 12 and on to be translated, that
is if she's even drawn them yet cos she took a 4-year hiatus in 1997 to draw Jinjyu
(13 tanks finis) and only published tanks 10 and 11 of GD this year. O_o;; How lucky can I
get? But I guess the hiatus was worth it - the art for tanks 10 and 11 is GOOD, even
crisper and tighter than before. Of course there's practically NOTHING for Morimoto-sensi's stuff in th fandom dept., though. I need a new scanner and an elephant assworth's more of free time to rectify that, dammit. *kanashii*
Still, I'm a happy girl, yes. ^_^ On top of that, I also have a two-book finis Deedlit story
in the Lodoss War world, Koori 14 and 15, and Hanakimi 11 to be Sparkly over. Fruitsbasket
7 is out too, but I dunno - I don't really like it even though it's cute. *shrugs* Other
than the fact that I think Kyo and Yuki need some serious monkeysex to quash them both,
Tooru irritates me sometimes. She's just too nice and gentle. >_> So shoot me - the
art doesn't really grab me all that much either. Anyway. In contrast, I *like* Mizuki even
if Sano's prettier than she is, because she's just so *real* - she gets messed up and
she's outspoken and she tries her best all the time, but she doesn't make you go Geh when
she gets all 'ganbatte'-ish because she knows what she's feeling and what she needs to do.
If that made sense. I'm biased, I suppose, but I don't like Tooru and Yuki as a couple
anyway. >_>a Huh. I don't even like such sparkly shoujo stuff normally, but
Hanakimi's an exception just because of Umeda-sensei. *NIKO*
Longest post I've written in a while - I'm going to go finish up my NP stuff, re-read
GD and Jinjyu (hwah! XDv) and then hit the sack. Nat,
raishuu ne~ :)
