Who am I and why am I venting in public?

I go by xen on the net, after going by several other variations of the nick. I've been called ScaperZen, Xenielle, Zen and now just plain old lower case xen suits me just fine. I started out as a lurker in the Xena and Hercules fandom, which is how I discovered slash I moved on to Farscape, which I'm pretty much burned out on completely. It's my own fault, I know now not to do a running cannonball into a new fandom. I pretty much just stick to slash lists now. I read in lots of fandoms, and I try to keep track of my favorites on my other blog In real life I'm fairly anti-social, I have few friends and those are fen like me, so they understand my obsessions and do not mock. I'm a single mom, and I'm very happy being single. I don't care much for men IRL, I prefer fictional men, preferably naked and bent over. I have a home page if you are still feeling like a nosy parker after reading this. I'm doing this blog because ranting to the cat gets boring after a while.

The still in doubt Hexwood archive
Well, now the Hexwood archivist is saying that the squidge.org thing is a rumor, and nothing has been decided yet. What I'm wondering is why nothing was done to save the archive before now, before just saying well, it's being shut down. Something proactive could have been attempted before things got this desperate. But it's not my headache, I'm still downloading all the Fraser/RayK slash I can fit on my hard drive, just in case. I'll just try not to think about all the stories that will be lost to newbies, and what this might mean long-term to the entire fandom. It's enough to give a woman hives.

And my old VCR quit working again, and now my son's Blues Clues tape is stuck in it. What else can possibly go wrong this week?

And it's only Tues...

But I have to say one thing, Tales of the City is a piece of art. I absolutely love it, and will be watching it over and over again. Why couldn't my landlady be like Ms. Madrigal?

squidge.org
Wow, and here I thought my day couldn't get any better, and no, I'm not being facetious. Walter at squidge.org, home of the Sentinel archive and Uncle Minotaur's slash database project, will be taking on the Due South archive. I'm so relieved, and happy, I think I'm gonna cry. But I think I'll just go to bed instead. I'm tired and wired, and my jaw is aching from gritting my teeth all day.

Tales of the City
After the horrifying morning I had today, at least I had a great evening. My sister sent me all of the series "Tales of the City" which features a younger Paul Gross in a small role. A younger, shirtless, smoking, drinking, man-slut role. mmmyeah.

And you'll never believe what I found in my hall closet: an old VCR I forgot I even had. I cleaned the heads, and whaddya know? It actually still works! No more Blues Clues in the living room, my son can watch it in his own room. woohoo!

I should get my copy of Hard Core Logo tomorrow, thanks to a very special tape fairy who shall remain nameless...then my life will truly be complete. I'll be able to dig into a new slash archive, Ten Buck Fucks and read the rest of the Due South crossovers I have saved on my hard drive. Yes, things are definately looking up.

the soon to be history hexwood archive
Well, here I am. I resisted putting up a personal blog for a long time, basically because I didn't have anything to say. Now I do. So witness the birth of xen's spleen. A place for me to rant and vent about whatever is up my ass at the moment. And at the moment, there is a big ol' bug up there.

First, the link above will lead you to the biggest, best organized Due South slash archive currently available on the net. And if you scroll down the page you will see that it is going to be removed after March 1st. While I completely understand the strain of maintaining a fan-fiction archive (and believe me, I really understand) I can't tell you how disappointed I am. I just discovered Due South, and have been soaking up all the Fraser/RayK fic I can find, and now my archive is being shut down. So I am downloading stories as fast as I can, trying to prepare myself. One of my favorite authors already pulled her web site from the 'net after some unrelated ugliness, and I didn't get a chance to download all of her stuff, and I deeply regret it. Now this.

Second: I will never, ever, ever get involved in the gen side of fandom again. I'm not talking about gen fanfiction. While I don't actively seek it out, I don't hate it either. I'm talking about the fan website, (like my site, chiana.net, now defunct) screen caps, wallpapers, winamp skins. First of all, its not worth having to put up with the ridiculous amount of email such a site can pull in. After answering the same question 50 times (and yes, said question was answered on the FAQ page, not that anyone ever reads those before emailing the webmistress) I finally quit answering any of the emails I got at all. No, I did not have any more pics of Gigi without makeup. I tried, people, I really tried. After being told that Henson would not allow any pics of Gigi without makeup on the web, I stopped trying. Now guess what? Gigi has a new site, with, you guessed it: tons of pics without the Chiana gear. Well, that'll show me, huh?

I'll be sticking with the slash fandoms, thank you very much. I've met so many nice people on slash lists. Where else are you going to find people that will make you copies of just about any show, blooper tape, or movie that you need for a collection? Where else can you find mature, grown-up fans who aren't going to get bent out of shape over mature, grown-up discussions? I know slash fandom has its problems too, but by and large I prefer hanging out with the grown-ups. Let the kids run the fan sites, I'm done with it.

And to top it all off I still have this old monitor to deal with, that only displays in 16 colors. Which is why I'm using the same layout for this page that I use on slashrecs I can't very well try anything new if I can't freaking see it. And my son is watching Blue's Clues Musical (tm) for the 150th time since Christmas and I seriously think it's going to push me over the edge. I dreamed about Blues's Clues last night, which totally upset the balance of smut in my brain. A singing side table, I do not need that floating around my brain. Naked Ray and Fraser, that's what I need.

Whew, I feel much better now.
