They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. --Benjamin Franklin

Edging Toward Fascism
Monday, November 22, 2004 08:54 a.m.

So apparently Dr. Lawrence Britt did a little research on the Fascist regimes of history and came up with some surprising, or not so surprising, results. He came up with 14 characteristics that were common in all of them. The site I linked to has all of the characteristics, and many links supporting the comparison of the United States to the Fascist regimes.

Sanctity my Anus
Wednesday, November 10, 2004 11:13 a.m.

So, America wants to protect the sanctity or marriage, huh? Let me translate that last sentence for you: So, America's homophobic, huh? Yes, no matter what they want to tell themselves, most American's don't really give a rat's ass about "the sanctity of marriage." Homosexuals just make them feel icky. But how did I come to this conclusion? I'll show you. What should be the largest concern when dealing with the topic of marriage? Allowing the marriage of two pesky men who love each other to be acknowledged by our government (not churches) or the rampant divorce rate, which, believe it or not, is highest in Bible belt states? Personally, I say the latter of the two is what is destroying the "sanctity" of marriage most. And get this. What state would you think has the lowest divorce rate? Massachusetts. What!? Gay central of the Divided States of America has the lowest divorce rate!? Say it's not so! In fact if you look at those statistics, only three blue states are included with the 25 worst states for divorce rate. But I thought anyone who voted for Kerry was voting away their morals. And that's not all. You all remember the fifth commandment, "Thou shalt not kill." Why is it then that these morally sound southern states have the highest murder rates in the country? Thank you America for ruining our future.

Makes me Want to Cry
Friday, November 5, 2004 02:38 p.m.

I have something to present to you. You can take it as you will, but think about it. I present to you, first, the electoral college map of this year's presidential election. Examine it carefully. Now I present to you a color-coded map of the United States right before the Civil War. Examine it carefully. What do you notice about the two maps? Yes that's right. Besides three states at the border between Northeast and everywhere else (Ohio, Indiana and Maryland), places that are red this year are exactly the same area that allowed slavery, and blue places did not. Think about it.

Disappointment
Wednesday, November 3, 2004 02:08 a.m.

Allow me to be the first to congratulate George W Bush on fooling the United States into forgetting about the disgustingly poor economy, 1123 casualties in a war that was founded on lies, a horrible education plan (that he underfunded ), a dismal health care policy, a disgusting assault on the environment, losing favor with much of the world, withdrawing from many international agreements, and all the broken promises promises promises promises.

Congratulations on fooling America on all of these things and being elected for the first time to the office of President of the United States. We can all only hope you do at least as well over the next four years as you have over the past four. Then again, it will be pretty hard not to...

Your Next President
Monday, October 25, 2004 10:58 p.m.

I know who's going to win the election. Well, I don't but some British researchers think they do. They "know" this because Kerry has more royal blood than Bush. I'm not making this up. Here's what they had to say:
Because of the fact that every presidential candidate with the most royal genes and chromosomes has always won the November presidential election, the coming election -- based on 42 previous presidents -- will go to John Kerry
Similar research carried out on Bush ahead of the 2000 presidential race showed that he beat Al Gore in the royal stakes
Really interesting, but scary in the sense that we still haven't escaped the monarchy of England past. Consider this from the article:
the Vietnam war veteran is related to all the royal houses of Europe and can claim kinship with Czar Ivan "The Terrible," a previous Emperor of Byzantium and the Shahs of Persia
So, since it's nearly impossible to have more royal blood than that, is Kerry about to become our new dictator?? Or will he serve out his eight years with the world coming to an end in 2012, as they prophecies say??

Slapping George Washington in the Face
Friday, October 22, 2004 04:36 p.m.

What we hate in others is often a flaw that we, ourselves, possess, but are unwilling to address. Not too long ago my wife made the remark, "We are becomming what we hate most about other countries."

About 300 years ago, a group of religious people got on a boat and sailed to a "new land." They did this to escape persecution due to their religion. They wanted to be able to practice it freely. Not quite a hundred years later they formed a country in that "new land" and one of the founding principles was that the government would "make no law respecting an establishment of religion." Basically, they said that everyone could worship or not worship any god that they saw fit, without fear of persecution. In other words, it was a secular government with it's laws coming from the people, and not a government endorsed deity.

Fast forward to the year 2004. America, though it has not officially declared it and many don't want to believe it, is in the midst of one of the largest religious wars in a thousand years. Then one day appears a bill in Congress, bearing the name: "Constitution Restoration Act." Now, the funny part is that this act doesn't actually restore anything. If passed it would actually destroy the very first amendment of the constitution of that country. And not only that, but the system of checks and balances the nation had would be null and void, because the pesky "activist judges" (who amazingly didn't exist until 2003) would not even be able to declare this bill unconstitutional because it has a provision limiting their power to hear cases such as one that would arise due to this bill. In fact, if passed, it would effectively turn that country into theocracy. "But wait, aren't the enemey nations of this country radical theocracies as well?" you ask. "Isn't this country about freedom to all?" Well you see, those days are long passed, and this nation has, of course, become what it hates most in other nations. It just hasn't officially stated it yet. But soon. The leaders of today have indeed slapped George Washington and Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin and all of our founding fathers in the face.

But then again, the founding fathers were terrorists.

Terrorism, Like Charity, Begins at Home
Friday, December 10, 2004 08:51 p.m.

What is a terrorist? What is it that makes one a terrorist?
terrorist
adj : characteristic of someone who employs terrorism (especially as a political weapon); "terrorist activity"; "terrorist state" n : a radical who employs terror as a political weapon; usually organizes with other terrorists in small cells; often uses religion as a cover for terrorist activities
In other words, a terrorist is one who employs fear tactics for political gain. "...Often uses religion as a cover..." Is the wheel spinning yet? Has the proverbial lightbulb turned on yet? What group of people fits this description? Figured it out? If not hover your mouse over this empty space. (Republicans! Amazing, huh?)

Attitude
Saturday, September 25, 2004 06:30 p.m.

Do you suppose that it was this kind of attitude that caused so many minority and absentee ballots to not be counted four years ago? Referring to the upcoming elections in Iraq, Rumsfeld was quoted as saying:
Well, so be it. Nothing's perfect in life, so you have an election that's not quite perfect. Is it better than not having an election? You bet.
The big deal? He was talking about certain areas not getting a chance to vote in Iraq. I think if we're to maintain any credibility that we haven't already lost, there had better be fair elections over there, and everyone better get a chance to vote, otherwise whatever government gets put in place will be viewed as a puppet of our own (though this may be hard to avoid even if the elections actually do work fairly,) and will gain no respect.
  • This article is talking about how Prince Harry of England is joining the British army because he couldn't pass tests with high enough scores to get into the good colleges (at least somebody's dad isn't pulling strings.) Anyway, not really my point. I want to call your attention to this part of the article:
The RCB required the prince to pass a number of interviews and physical tests including completing 50 sit-ups in two minutes.
Out of all the (I'm sure) difficult interviews and other physical tests, CNN makes note of doing 50 sit-ups in 2 minutes. The US military requires every male in Harry's age category to do 58 every six months. This must be the solution as to why our forces in Iraq number so much greater than every other country. We can do eight more sit-ups.
  • Here are a couple of articles from Intervention Magazine. Although I don't exactly agree with the comparison of Bush and Hitler, the first one's still an interesting read, and though it probably doesn't matter any more, the second is interesting as well.
  • Congress voting to abridge the powers of courts?? I posted once before that Congress was tossing around ideas of putting a bill through limiting federal courts in certain circumstances, but not like this, and never did I think anything like this would actually pass. It's blatantly unconstitutional, but will anything be done about it? Probably not. Unrelated to this, but extremely relevant, I heard an amazing quote today:
If you throw a frog in a pot of boiling water it will jump out, but if you put in water that is at room temperature, and slowly raise the temperature, it will boil itself.
Slowly this is happening to us. The protections that we have are slowly being taken away, so that the majority of people either don't realize it, or think that one thing being taken away is so small that it doesn't matter. Well it's starting to matter, because so many have been taken away. One small example of this, are the city and county enforced smoking bans in public restaurants and bars. I really hate smoking, but it is not up to local governments to decide how an entrepreneur runs his or her business. We're supposed to be the "capitalist pigs," so theoretically these bans are against what this nation prides itself in: business. If you don't like the smoke, go somewhere else, and maybe when the business owner's pockets are looking a little bit more empty, he might decide to go non-smoking on his own, but the government should not be telling him what to do.
  • This will be great to look back on, if Kerry gets elected.John Kerry was on the Late Show with David Letterman and Green Day was the musical guest. Speaking of which, Green Day's new CD American Idiot just came out. Although the title track is being grossly overplayed on the radio, the rest of the CD has been growing on me. I wasn't sure what to think at first, but now I think I like it. "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" is, oddly, probably my favorite track. On the whole, I think it rivals their other albums, if not a little bit better. I got a kick out of reading the reviews on Amazon. My favorite a.k.a the saddest, most out of place, worthless review of a CD ever:
Take a listen to American Idiot...though it is a good song....it sounds like Britney Spears' voice being enhanced with technology. How sad for a bunch of California rockers. The ultimate song is "Wake Me Up When September Ends"...but doesn't compare to Warning's "Good Riddance". Want a good album? Buy Good Charlotte or Hilary Duff!
If you haven't heard the album yet, "Wake me Up..." is the slowest song on the disc. What makes it worse is that on looking at the reviewer's other reviews I found this in reference to "Unfit for Command: Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out Against John Kerry":
So stop being liberals and stop making a fool of yourself. The Kerry-supporters don't really like Kerry. They are just anti Bush. Well, how sad...because after this is read...you can conclude that he has NO CREDIBILITY, AND BETRAYED HIS COUNTRY! John Kerry is a SICK man!
Not that he's not necessarily wrong with the whole Kerry supporters not really liking him, but anyone who reads a book involving the swift boat veterans and buys it 100% is not worth anyone else's time. I guess that's enough bashing-of-people-I-don't-know for one day.

Making the US Safer, One Retired, Defunct if You Will, Singer at a Time
Friday, September 24, 2004 06:46 p.m.

You have probably already heard about this, but in case you haven't, a few days ago a travesty was prevented. Midflight, an aircraft heading for Washington D.C. was diverted to Maine, because one of the passengers, Yusaf Islam, was found to be on the Federal "No-Fly List." The list contains names of persons who are not allowed into the US due to possible terrorist ties, etc. Ladies and Gentlemen, I'm proud to let you know that our amazing anti-terrorism efforts on the homefront have been a major success, and thanks to these efforts the man who gave us "Peace Train" was not allowed into our country. Yes, that's right. Cat Stevens was sent back to London. (Even if it takes them half of a flight across the Atlantic to figure out that you're a terrorist, you still have to go back, unless of course you've already taken over the plane. Then you could go, well...anywhere you want, really.)

Kids Are the Future
Thursday, September 23, 2004 06:13 p.m.

A class of 11 year olds in Eden Prarie, MN (a largely Republican place, mind you) was asked what they thought about excerpts from both the Kerry website and the Bush website, and then was asked to choose, without hearing the candidates, which one they would vote for. Result? The students voted 26-4 in favor of Kerry. When told about this, many of the parents appeared disturbed. The students were left wondering how they picked "the wrong" person.

My Head is Spinning
Tuesday, September 21, 2004 11:14 p.m.

Dan Rather gets some faulty information about Bush, finds out it's wrong, and publicly apologizes. Response? Conservatives everywhere are calling for his resignation.

George Bush gets some faulty information about Iraq, sends 150,000 of our troops there, gets 1000 of them killed, forces many of those who managed to stay alive to remain there longer than they should, in the process killing tens of thousands of Iraqi's and losing the respect and sympathy of some of our biggest allies in the world, and then doesn't even attempt to make a formal apology. Response? Well, he's currently ahead in the polls for this year's elections.

What the hell is wrong with the people of this country?

Priorities
Sunday, September 12, 2004 11:57 a.m.

There currently are about 16,000 U.S. troops in Afghanistan conducting daily patrols in remote mountain villages, mostly in the eastern part of the country. There are nearly 140,000 American troops in Iraq.
I can't remember where this came from, but it puts our government's priorities into perspective doesn't it. I mean three years after the attacks and Osama bin Laden is still running around plotting more attacks. I remember a quote from everybody's favorite president: "...and the people that knocked down these buildings will be hearing all of us soon..." Let's see...16,000 troops looking for those responsible for the attacks, and 140,000 looking for, ummm, looking for... oh yeah, non-existent "weapons of mass destruction."
Another comparison I heard recently, but can't remember the source, went something like this: It took two years to begin an investigation into September 11th, it took at least five months to get an investigation going into the Abu Ghraib prison abuse, but it took only two days to begin an investigation into Janet Jackson's breast. Where are our priorities!?

The Antichrist
Saturday, September 4, 2004 10:41 a.m.

I recently read this article claiming that Arnold Schwarzenegger could be the third and final antichrist. (It's relatively commonly accepted that Napolean and Hitler were the first two.)
But the article got me thinking, "Who else is a candidate to be the antichrist?" What do you think?

Titled
Saturday, August 28, 2004 10:49 p.m.

I just archived everything so feel free to check that out if you haven't visited in a while. There's also a quasi-new layout if you hadn't noticed. I put up a bunch of new links in the side bar area. A lot of stuff there if you want to learn something new. If there's something that you don't see in there let me know, and I'll see what i can do.

Same sex marriage actually good for heterosexual marriage? But then again you take into account other things like...
  • Much more open sex education programs from younger ages
    • Contrary to popular American belief, when they talk about it more at a younger age, they are more likely to wait longer before having sex, and they have staggeringly fewer teen pregnancies.
  • Much younger drinking ages
    • But there are less DUI's, drinking fatalities, and better marks in every other statistic involving alcohol.
  • Legalized marijuana
    • But hardly any problems have arisen because of it.
I guess same-sex marriages really would be the downfall of American society.
