yesterday i found out i'm already a published musician. a song i co-wrote with aden (aka wax eloquent) of imen about 18 months ago found its way onto a small belgian hip-hop compilation cd. i was vaguely aware that aden had submitted the track, but he told me doubted the project would ever come together. now this is a huge ego-stroker for me, since it was the first (and so far only) full rap track i've ever done. the okayplayer comp is ten bucks s & h included, but they have mp3s on the page, so you can check my track for free. also, word is the song's available on napster, so now i really feel famous.

two other things: pitchfork seems to be having technical problems today. now this bears mentioning here because three months ago, i would have laced into them with an unwarranted ferocity. but now i'm just another bemused observer like the rest of y'all.

also i'd like to re-exhort all my loyal readers to please sign my guestbook, tell us a little about yourself, and perhaps comment on my music. the whole reason i got one is because people weren't emailing me re: the page, but i could tell i had regular readers from my stats service. so come on, identify yourselves! i figure you must be cool to voluntarily put up with my day-to-day crap, so do it! or i may have to resort to drastic measures.

snatch was essentially more of the same, ritchie-wise. but hey, i was and still am a huge fan of lock, stock and two smoking barrels, so i had fun. the movie wholeheartedly embraces the non-chronological simultaneity of other postmodern crime pictures like pulp fiction, albeit on a much shorter time scale. the caper is appreciably convoluted, like its predecessor, and ritchie delights in showing how chance encounters between strangers can change simple little machinations into one big chaos of distrust and serendipity. actingwise, brad pitt is phenomenal as a wily gypsy boxer who speaks a randomly understandable pidgin English. the fight scenes are among the best cinematic depictions of pugilism i've ever seen. and the soundtrack is fucking awesome: it jumps from post-shoegazer britrock to tense electronica to nouveau spy themes--and i loved it all. soooo worth purchasing. anyway, the final verdict on the movie is if you liked lock, stock, you'll like snatch.

btw, i have a guestbook now (down and on the left), so sign it especially if you come here at least once a week.

just posting to let my legions of fans know that i finished a new song last night entitled "hater." i like it a lot, and my singing has improved somewhat over previous tracks. so get it over on the right, or read more about the song in the listener's guide. i'll talk about snatch later.

also, i've posted lyrics and track times for all the songs in the guide, for all y'all who were just dying to know what i'm saying in "bitchpork."

ooo, look at who's going to be at noisepop 2k1! superchunk, crooked fingers and gvsb. plus a bunch of people i've never gotten around to becoming a fan of, but that's cool. i wonder how much those season passes are gonna cost. . .

the last two days were quite taxing and bothersome. i forgot to do an assignment that required about 200 pages of reading until the last minute, so i had to do that and write 4 pages thereon in one day. and something else shitty happened that day but i can't remember what. then the next day i had six consecutive hours of class, during which i missed lunch, followed by a group meeting for one of my classes. but that's thursdays for me this quarter. my fridays are completely class-free, which rocks quite a bit.

if a piece of rock news is all over the other founts of rock media on tv, radio and the web, you can be goddamn sure you won't find it here. that said, i'll rehash the best of today's pitchfork news: new pixies b-sides collection, weezer new album details and weezer tribute album. the first two items are wonderful news; the last is patently disposable. without launching into a huge diatribe, i'll simply say that tribute albums are at best unnecessary and at worst, flat-out embarrassing. but, that's what napster's for.

also, for those of you who may have been wondering, i am having ladytroubles again. i usually don't air my emotional dirty laundry on here because i really don't want this site to become the next saturn.org, no offense to said blogger. i left my emo days in high school, but i really do wish that women who don't like me very much would just do us both the favor of leaving me alone. i guess i just take certain incidents too seriously. oh, well: the good of it is that the situation was built to collapse, and i'm sure i'm ganking that metaphor from some (most likely emo) song.

my friends and i are going to see the latest guy ritchie flick tonight, snatch. you will, of course, be forcefed my opinion of it.

i'm the bearer of good news because i really would rather not be working right now. so, what hath we heah? new guided by voices record april 3? old but unreleased dead kennedys material scheduled for public consumption sans biafra's blessing? two guys from at the drive-in get the crazy idea they can rock the samplers and synths as well as they do the guitars, bass and drums?

i'm coming to terms with a difficult revelation of which many of you are no doubt already aware: i can't f@%#ing sing. it's difficult to express your lyrics appropriately when your voice is as lifeless as a beached carp. shoot, i'd be ready to shop my material to indie labels if wolf 359 only had a decent vocalist. rrrgh, and the worst of it is, my mom is the world's greatest living female jazz vocalist! what a legacy to live down. but you'd think i'd have received at least a few iotas of thoracic fortitude with that kind of pedigree. but it looks like not. if anyone out there can sing, kind of digs my material and wants to collab, drop me a line. hey, this could go places: my mom has mad recording industry hookups.
