the art of larry carlson
sure, I have a picture of a cat driving at my desk, but sometimes I yearn for art more . . . artistic. larry's stuff is psychedelic and sexy- despite his lowfi page setup. fast-loading and pleasingly distracting.

" . . . is a design forum done by designers, and aimed primarily at other designers, or people in general who are fed up with the multitude of crap which can be found on the net. we strive to showcase the very best the net has to offer, by allowing other designers to explore different forms of design & communication in a new k10k issue every monday."
metropolitan opera
my buddy john is an opera singer. it is a very difficult career to commit to- travelling all the time, never enough money, gay guys on your jock, all for the dream to sing at the met. let's give john a big round! allright! next stop: new york city!
adbusters
the website for the anti-consumer magazine of the same name, adbusters rips through consumer culture with an aplomb more befitting a fat lady in a pie factory. watch their uncommercials, see their spoof ads, read, look, taste, feel it all.
ureach
free email, toll-free voice mail & faxes. voice-mail you can hear on the internet (via sound files). email you can hear on the phone. yes, it's free, but I haven't put this one thru the motions as of yet- you might wanna check it out on yer own, tho. plus: alladvantage pays you to surf the internet! really? yes. I got my first $20 check about two weeks ago, and it felt soooo gooood. while I'm at it, I may's well mention netzero's free internet access...
the institute of official cheer
if memory serves, this site used to house merely the gallery of regrettable food, which was more than enough retro laff-at-your-unjaded-parents fun for anybody. now they have a whole menu heapin' full of "irony-free imagery," including "bureau of corporate allegory" and "orphanage of cast-off mascots." ha, I mean, ha.
the contest
"here's the story. brandon and ric never get laid. So on april 29, 1999 while eating egg rolls and sweet and sour chicken at the mall, they decided to count the days until the next time one of them scores... "
razorfish subnetwork
"...the weird thing about our demographic is that we mock ourselves alla time man!" "yeah, like I went to the razorfish site, and it had all sorts of 'hip,' 'artsy' things; graphics, audio, all sorts of neat macromedia stuff holding it together, yet, I felt like mocking it, pointing and saying 'forget it, marketing-man! I ain't buyin!'"
the obscure store & reading room
sadly, I have come to depend on the obscure store for my daily news. this is sad because the articles are all sick but real- from papers across the country, with headlines like "prosecutor who hired hooker gets a pay cut," "principal stun-gunned by jason-masked kid" and "hunter recovering after being shot by dog." kind of like a daily dose of news of the weird, and that's a good thing.
fatbrain
this geek-oriented bookstore is a wealth of tech-no-logy books, but that's not the best part- you can publish your own written material for free and fatbrain will sell it
for you. anyone can publish and anyone can browse & buy uploaded stories or articles or technical papers. another shift in the publishing paradigm, mayhap?
thanks, Chris
an atlas of cyberspaces
this site strokes the erect, unfulfilled geek in me. filled with a variety of visual representations of every aspect of cyberspace, they make pretty pictures, such pretty pictures... ooh.
thanks, Dan
mr. T vs. the blair witch
I hesitated before adding this link- to a disturbing yet somehow plausible theory on the intersection of these two seemingly disparate elements. in the vein of burt is evil.
thanks, Steaky
wddg
a wicked opening flash animation fronts up this web development company site. the works and client works menus are filled with badass sites- don't miss the bad as shit project.
thanks, Steaky
metapita
"the pita of pitas" listed my Amsterdam 2000 page recently with these comments:
"Hmm. It's your source for links and info on Amsterdam and the year 2000. Completely useless for almost everyone, but getting a listing because of it. Let's pick a smaller niche, shall we? Still, it's well done and extremely thorough. Go see if you're bored enough. Or actually care."
I AM SO PROUD. (actually, I stole her HTML and made this site, so I owe her one)
