Wednesday, July 11, 2001,01:51 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2001,12:14 p.m. Since I know this will neither dissuade nor convince anyone to see it... I'll keep babbling on anyway because I love to hear myself talk. : D Points in its favor: 1) The gorgous animation, 'o course. It wasn't /perfect/ but I'm not going to nitpick... it was still very very very very nice. 2) The way the aliens kill. Creeped me right out 3) The lovely Final Fantasy game cliche plotline (it's amazing they've managed to franchise this, really.) 4) The lovely anime cliches (you'll know them when you see them, trust me) 5) The refusal to crack a lot of jokes. I like my funny stories just as good as the next person, but this was a decent serious story.
6) The ending. 7) The ending song. I'm a sucker for a power ballad. I know I'm going to end up owning this soundtrack just for that last cheesy song. : D Points against:
1) The abhorrently cliche dialogue. I'm assuming this is probably the fault of the dubbers, and the Japanese dialogue is better... I hope. (They'd better have it subtitled in the DVD, damn it.) The scripters really cracked the spines on a few volumes of "101 commonly used lines in action movies" though.
2) Damn I'm tired... I didn't get to bed until 3 and Dave's cat got me up at 7 am. (No this isn't the movies fault, but what the hell, I needed more than one complaint to sound like a critic.) So, in a nutshell, apart from the crappy cliche dialogue it wasn't all that of a bad movie. Unlike A.I which went from a "10" movie to a "2" movie, FF hovered somewhere around "5", with a couple really interesting concepts and some very sweet graphics (i.e "look what we learned how to animate! Glass! Whiskey!) Of course, it should probably be noted I spent more than a few moments imagining a Brendan/Cassiel fight fully rendered... heh. It will happen, mark my words... : ) Oh yes, and a Spider-Man trailer. Cool... although it didn't show me as much of Peter Parker being kicked around like a loser as I'd have liked. So, go see the movie, and then come talk to me about it. I have a few things I saw that I really want to laugh about here, but I don't want to spoil any scenes. Monday, July 9, 2001,10:41 a.m. Speaking of, I ought to probably hate you too... it was so good that it pretty much made me want to change much of book 4, and pretty much ALL of book 5 so far, and take it all in a new direction. So, with a single story, you've completely altered the twigaverse... thanks : )
I owe you several large favors by now, I think... I'm still working on Dragon's Dowry, but I got a bit sidetracked 'cause Whisper 11's nearly done... I think.
See ya. Man... that was awesome. Monday, July 9, 2001,10:32 a.m. warning: stupid Twig rant ahead - don't bother reading it, I'm doing it just for me I don't even get to the /opinion/ page of the paper, I don't make it past the front page before I learn of a Supreme Court ruling (how the /hell/ did anything this stupid make it to the Supreme Court) about the rights of student's grading privacy being violated by teachers asking students to correct each others papers, having honor roll scores and graded material posted, etc. Some stupid twit woman said her stupid twit children were embarrassed by having grades read aloud. Well, I was pretty damn embarrassed in gym - pretty much perpetually - and you don't see me trying to get it outlawed by the Supreme Court - (if I thought there was /any/ chance I could win, though...) -
I am so freaking tired of being asked to care about these idiots and their stupid children. I don't want to protect their kids, I don't care about their kids, really there's a good chance I /hate/ their kids, and I don't give a good god damn what kind of self-esteem they have. I shouldn't have to care, and the entire school system shouldn't have to change for twits who need to grow up and get a freaking backbone.
end of pointless, probably offfensive rant Monday, July 9, 2001,07:47 a.m. I sent him SiP in Japan, like I was his slave but now all that karma's coming back to me cuz I get to see the FF movie for free... a day early! So, I won't be around on Tuesday night, natch : ) Saturday, July 7, 2001,03:07 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2001,05:37 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2001,01:52 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2001,12:20 p.m. Good Times: Dina sent me my Brendan pic in exchange for the "Birthday Graces" FF7 short (because I'm an art whore).
Of course, she keeps referring to me as the Twig-God (-megami? is that it?) I would unleash holy smiting but it usually just ends up giving me a nasty foot cramp. Lunar put up the next chapter of Looking, which is also bad times because, evil, slothful and wretched as I may be here at work, I just /can't/ read lemons at this information desk. Call me a wuss... and now I need to get home and /read it/!!! I booked the flight, which is good times, but God I hate flying. I'm already scared. Good times! Ann ! You must read Rishi's new column, if for nothing but the ending sentence. Rishi is so cool. Also good times, Natsumi likes me! Wai! I'm always afraid to write to people on the off chance that they'll yell "no, go away you freaky person!" and beat me with onion bagels. The really big ones. I've got a 38$ credit for the video game store... hey Ann what do you think about that Music Generator 2? Or something else? God knows my little Game Boy has the hookup with DDR and Bust a Move 4... It's a nice day... it was a nice day yesterday. Two consecutive nice days in a row, trust me, around here it's a big deal. pay day... woo! My CD burner works! I changed programs and discs a few times and the bloody thing decided it wanted to work! Woohoo! Bad times: I hope somebody decides to help me with a few of my hours at work for the trip... what the heck, it's over a month away. Acclimate Solutions is having credit card problems?! NOOOO! I need my World End FairyTale! I /need/ it! It is a sad day. Lilack has shut down. I understand why she did it... but still... come back soon Lilack!
... that is all, until I remember the other 29,000 things I had to say. Thursday, July 5, 2001,12:08 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2001,08:05 a.m. Where was the ending?! WHERE WAS THE ENDING?! Oh, and god knows why the server was down but I think it's all working fine now. Friday, June 29, 2001,02:13 p.m. : ) Friday, June 29, 2001,12:31 p.m. Also, as so not to waste even more time on Scrabble , I might be borrowing Dig Dug, Melly and Archie for the one-shot Captain Taco Brendan vs. the gremlins fic... I just think they'd work out ok... so... whatever... Thursday, June 28, 2001,10:13 a.m. THAT episode... hero potentially goes "boom"? I. Need. To. See. What. Happens.
Thursday, June 28, 2001,09:13 a.m. Oh well, beggers can't be choosers. Wednesday, June 27, 2001,04:21 p.m. Lilack, thanks for the letter! I'll write back as soon as I stop feeling damn near narcoleptic... (other people keep telling me I look tired, so I'm pretty sure it's not just me being lazy). Ugh, I spilled flavored water on me and I smell like fruit punch. >.< Wednesday, June 27, 2001,12:13 p.m. "If you didn't have to hold on for dear life with your face, it would probably be a nice view..." Hee hee. I'm so glad you're playing in the twig-a-verse... today especially, it was all that got me up and out of bed to work on the site before work. Lilack, here I was thinking to myself "gee at least I'm sort of keeping up with her and her ever-changing nifty blogs... and you changed!!! : P
I'm hoping the blog time means you're less stressed than before, at least a little. Hey, and I get to be on Neurotic Cowards... I'll cower under the bed and whimper for the right to be the most neurotic of all! (I figured fighting for it might go against the point, ne?) It's a little belated, but I had to put in my 2 cents on the whole Disney thing. I think they try, but I am getting a little miffed by the continous lack of mothers in Disney movies, with fathers always taking the bulk roles (Tarzan might be a small exception, but the main story was still father-son... er, sort of.) Beyond that, I just think it's funny how they add lots of cute animals to butch females to make them seem more girly... like Mulan, with the dragon, the cricket and that stupid badly animated dog, or Pocahontas... Have you seen Atlantis yet? It's surprisingly not bad... well, not /godawful/ at any rate. We in the anime club are watching Generator Gawl now... I think we're on episode 4, but we keep skipping weeks to watch Metal Angel something-or-other (it was in an earlier blog). I really like Gawl (or actually, Gawl's cute two pals) but am getting really, really tired of the two scientist guys who just sit in the shadows, smirk and mumble. WE ALREADY KNOW YOU'RE EVIL NOW DO SOMETHING EVIL!!! ... but I'm glad it's good, I'm eagerly awaiting more. All right! I lent WorldEnd Fairytale to the girl at club who reads Japanese! I'll finally find out what the hell is going on!!! It's so pretty... Monday, June 25, 2001,09:51 p.m. |
