I got to watch ooooollld DBZ last night. It was a scream-- I keep forgetting how much FUN it is. And I HAVE A JOB ON CAMPUS! WOOOO! ...Course, it means I have to go back a week early... but hey, I get PAID! And I started making wallpapers last night, and I have to say that for a first effort, the results were definitely not bad. So.

Deb is DONE! Time to archive this sucker. :)

Wow. When I procrastinate, I don't do it by halves. I was doing some LONG overdue tegami-kaku and it was so weird, because I felt suddenly like no time had passed at all, but I was remembering little odd things, mostly. Like the day we all went out together for the last time, and it was as good as Christmas because everyone seemed to have some kind of surprise for me. It is such a wonderful feeling, to get gifts from people who have practically given you the moon already, and know they don't really even expect you to be able to reciprocate. (But I'm working on that part.)

Mel, whatever you're doing right now I wish you hugs and sunshine. I miss you so much. You must have grown so much since I got back, and in so many different ways-- we're gonna have to get to know each other all over again, I bet. What do you think? :) At any rate, I can't wait to see you!

And now, off to email my sempai... gah. I'm SO slow. Warui ne....

Finally got off my butt and linked Aoe's page over there-- I shamelessly use this weblog as my own little linkstash anyway, so who's surprised? Eh?

Dad and I just saw Bad Company-- I thought it was hella fun. *grins* Of course, how can I not love a movie where I get to hear Anthony Hopkins say 'Get in the car, bitch.' Whooo!

Now. Off this computer and onto the Mac to make a new layout-image-thingie. Much as I adore Kenshin, this thing's gotta go!

I keep forgetting just how out of proportion things can (and usually do) get blown up on the 'net. (Welcome to the fishbowl, everyone.) A hobby is a hobby... regardless of what it is that you do for fun, not everyone is going to understand it. I mean, all I say is usually, 'I'm an artist', and people can't even come up with a clever response to THAT most of the time. And that's not a hobby, it's what I do. Elaborating on things like that in casual conversation isn't worth it, to me, because I just hate having to explain every little detail every time I meet someone new. It just gets old, and besides, it's personal, not some great social crusade anyway.

...The flip side to this topic is, of course, exactly why I avoid rabid fen whenever possible. Doesn't matter what they're drooling over; it's the intense ego-feeding and general lack of dignity that bothers me.

And now I'm sure I sound like a pretentious bitch. *Grins* I can be, I'm sure, but never on purpose... I hope.

Stupid ESPN. Thirty minutes of soccer highlights at eleven-thirty does NOT make it okay to launch into NASCAR coverage for the rest of the evening. And it's past time to go to bed, so I can't even sneak downstairs to see if they're showing a game now. Le sigh.

Apathetic?

...Gotta love the British capacity for understatement. *gnashes teeth*

I'll let everyone who's not a U.S. citizen in on a little secret (that's violently obvious, I'm sure): Yeah, the Cup finals are vying with other playoffs for our attention. But the real reason no one seems to give a damn? Americans don't want to invest time, energy and money (or even just a bit of fun) in something they can't be the undisputed best at. We have baseball, golf, hockey and basketball, so the rest of the world can have soccer. ARGH.

...Which still leads me to wonder what the hell everyone is doing watching the Stanley Cup down here. I mean, sometimes I feel like the only person around here who thinks that the idea of pro hockey in this state is hilarious. I love watching it, yes, but it has nothing to do with North Carolina. It just... doesn't.

And for heaven's sake, WHAT IS SO WRONG with ESPN airing matches from 2 AM until 7 AM anyway?!!? It's not like anything ELSE is competing for that airtime, you morons. And if I find out that they really have been, and our TV listings have been titling it 'Off Air' for the hell of it... *coherent thought fails*

Right now, I really can't wait to get to Manchester. I will camp out at the football field. Too bad I couldn't buy the MU jersey I found in Osaka; I bet they'll be far more expensive in the UK.

...In the meantime, any of y'all taping these matches? Anybody?

Just returned from a very irreverent viewing of the Harry Potter DVD. *Grins* It was lovely. Snape is a flirty bat, Voldie is Christopher Walken, Oliver Wood is PUPPY!, and Draco is a delightful little snot (well, that was dead on, at least).

And now I have AKIRA TORIYAMA ARTWORK to scan and play with! I was recently inspired, and now wish to search for a viable way to acquire a splash page with a good basic URL, to use for my website. Because heaven knows THAT won't be on the same server for very long.

Oh, and so you know, true Evil does not wear cheese hats. It does, however, sing along to Linkin Park (on key and in unison, no less), has great interest rates, loses its car in the parking lot every time, likes Ben & Jerry's, and has been officially sorted into Slytherin.

And it has a damned cool evil minion, if I do say so myself. *Preens*

Bring on the floating heads.

I screwed with the Photo.net link, so that you can actually FIND me on the site. One of its many downfalls-- if you're looking for something in particular, you're in for a long and fruitless search unless you know the exact title or photographer's full ID name.

I really do need to get off my butt and scan some more photos-- but there are so many, it'd really be worth the money to just have most of the rolls put on PhotoCD. Then I can play with them in Photoshop, without killing my poor PageManager program first. Or rather, having it kill my Mac.

Enough outta me. I'm full and sleepy and Drew graduates tomorrow... more weirdness to end a very strange week.

And I have reached the conclusion that my writing style is very, well, sleepy. Besides that, what's up with first-person limited being the most natural-- and easiest-- POV to write in (especially when it's not me talking)?!

I'm bizarre. Off to bed with me.

It is a sad day. My lovely shinra.org email address has only a little while left to live. I might consider paying to keep it, but the interface AN uses now frankly sucks, and I don't really want to gamble on the new one being an improvement. Le sigh.

I am tiiiiired. Straight from work to a sports awards thingie for Drew and the golf team, then to the grocery store to shop for cookout food for said team that will be invading our house tomorrow. Oh, and reading a new chapter of 'A Long Time Coming' in there somewhere, too. I can't believe it made me so tense that I had to force myself to consciously relax my neck and shoulder muscles for the next hour. It was just that cool. I should never have started reading the other arcs on Aoe's page... that girl can WRITE. A LOT. Well, they both can. And they're damned good at it, too. ^_^ 'Assassininity' isn't updated nearly as often as I'd like, but hey, I ain't complainin'.

Turboslut... *raucous laughter* God, I love that. What good is having a favorite character if you can't poke all sorts of inappropriate fun at them? ...And I feel a mini-rant coming on... quick one, cuz I'm sleepy. But still. See, one of the reasons I can't get enough of Aoe and Shoori's WK ficcage is that they have their characters nailed. At this point they're all probably what one would consider out-of-character in relation to the series, but they all started out very much in character, and so much has happened in their little alternate universe(s) that they have to change somewhere along the line. And they do it beautifully. There is serious attention to detail, character detail, in those fics. No reaction goes unnoticed or unjustified, and no major upheaval leaves anyone unchanged, but they don't beat the reader over the head with third-person omniscient descriptions of every single thing. And the dialogue... I would expect most authors to write themselves into corners with the situations and arguments (mostly the arguments) that keep popping up in the NWO arc. But not only do they work through them, they do it convincingly, and THAT's what impresses me. I've been put off lots of stories (not just fanfiction) that are otherwise wonderful, just because the author seems to keep forgetting that their character already worked through Issue A in the last chapter, and should now be on to Issue B, rather than wallowing in Issue A again for no apparent reason (other than to provide lovely angst, that is). That's nothing more than a static character masquerading as a dynamic character, and it's irritating, not to mention disappointing.

...Oh, who am I kidding, I also love that they write Omi so damned well. He differs a teensy bit from arc to arc, but not so much, really. I thoroughly enjoy him, because he's fascinating and screwed up and so terribly levelheaded at the same time. Omi's not some ditzy high school student; he's terrifyingly smart and capable and dedicated. Dedicated to what? Well, that's what makes writing him so much fun. One of the reasons I didn't mention the Weiss manga when I mentioned out-of-character writing was that Aoe and Shoori's characters feel very much like the comic to me, as opposed to the TV show or even the radio dramas. Sure, the comic is short, but it's less campy, more melancholy, and shows the beginnings of characters that could have been so much more than what you get from the television show. (And hey, the art is definitely better.)

I'm starting to peter out here... my brain can't keep up with my fingers anymore. Maybe I have more to say, maybe I don't... I'm not expecting anyone to read this anyway, it's just me babbling on the keyboard to get this crap out of my head so it won't bother me so much.

And ya know, there's gotta be some significance in the fact that 'Fuubaru' sounds so much like 'FUBAR'. ...Besides the obvious, I mean.

Happy Evil Fuuma (tm) looks like GACKT.

.... *ticks off fingers* So that's Squall, Cloud, Aya, and now Fuuma on the list. Geez. I'm afraid to guess who's next. Anyway, suffice to say I got my mitts on some recent X scans, and boy did I laaaaaaaugh. FUUMA! MAKE UP YOUR MIND! CLAMP's just stalling now. Again. Whatever. *off-balance giggle*

So I spent three days this week in G'boro. It was nice. Busy, but NICE because I WASN'T IN CLASS. I hung with friends and watched movies and it was great. I even managed to enjoy Episode II, which is a good thing, because I did cough up five bucks to see it. Yoda is my hero. And if you're looking for a good debate over the movie, look elsewhere because that's all I'm going to say about it. ...Well, and that Tim and I dueled with lightsabers on the lawn at midnight, much to the amusement of any neighbors who were awake and anyone who happened to drive by. We beat each other up. It was fun.

Oh, and the Buffy season finale rocked. GILES CAME BACK, BABY!!! WOOOO!!! Yeah, that's all it took to make me one very happy camper. Hee.

I have a three-day weekend ahead of me! Well, two days plus a Tuesday. Same thing. I'm gonna do a whole lotta NOTHIN'. And scour the TV listings so I can plan my Fifa World Cup viewings accordingly. I have missed me some soccer since I got home, yes indeed. And now that I have checked my email, skimmed the fic updates, and caught up on blogging, (and laughed at Fuuma-- must always laugh at Fuuma) I am off to BED. Goodnight, monkeys.

P.S.: N, you rock. Kagrra Deb rocks. Writer, you KICK ASS!!! I have seen the light and it is IZAM! *is struck by bolt of lightning* ...eehehefff...*keels over, smoking and giggling*

That's it, I've had it. With WK fanfiction, that is. If it's not already an established favorite of mine, it's probably not gonna get read. >_< WHY did it have to explode in such an unexpected, fannish mess? I can only assume that the first wave of previously uneducated DVD-purchasers finally made it over to their word processors and barfed up the first thing that they could think of. Or not think, actually. The same can be said of the FF7 fare I've seen of late on FF.net; they seem to have graduated from Aeris-resurrection and all-around lameness into the boy-love fangirl category. Yow. Poor Zack... poor everyone else....

On that note, I really ought to get cracking on my fics.

I was just checking out Bridget's blog, and turns out she mentioned my second-favorite Melanie Rawn series. Ya know, the one that comes out so infrequently you have to re-read the damn books again so you know who's who? ;p Which I'm gonna have to do, before Captal's Tower comes out. And I think I agree with her about Collen... I mean, come ON, when you find yourself thinking, 'that does NOT COMPUTE', not even in terms of 'for the sake of the plot', chances are good that things will be righted later. But then again, I still remember what she did to poor Meiglan in Skybowl. That kinda blurs the lines a bit, for me... I mean, I would have been more interested in Pol's little love problems if his wife had actually been AROUND at the end to, you know, make him feel BAD. The brat.

Still haven't seen Episode II. I'll live for another week or so; I'm in no hurry to see Anakin and Amidala make gooey eyes at each other and be star-crossed lovers (read: selfish idiots). The trailer was enough to put me off the movie completely, until I realized I'd be missing cool Jedi action. Which means that it better be there in SPADES. Other than that, call me an eternal optimist, but I'm looking forward to Lilo & Stitch in June. I'm hoping the plot actually fits inside the movie, unlike Atlantis (which should have been three hours long at least... can we say rushed?) And besides, the trailers are flarking hilarious. The Lion King bit gets me every time.

We just got back from the bookstore (sad to say, it was Barnes & Noble and not Malaprops), where I picked up 'Yellow' and 'Shopaholic Takes Manhattan'. I felt bad (or silly, not sure) just buying 'Shopaholic', it's so light and fluffy and /not/ thought-provoking, so I picked up 'Yellow' to compensate. I mean, usually I walk away from any trip to the bookstore with quite a pile of stuff (or at least some Terry Pratchett), so it felt too weird to only get one brainless read. Couldn't do it. And to make matters worse, my list just keeps growing, as usual. I still have my eye on that sixty-dollar box of The Tale of Genji, then there's the Pillow Book, and I have developed a thirst for good Basho translations (and any other haiku I can find... catch is, I want them in the original Japanese.) Add in the two tres chic journals I found, the Kyoto street guide, all the Tolkien re-printings and that shiny new hardcover edition of Mossflower, Eloise, and more Haruki Murakami novels, and ED has plenty of things to save up for this fall.

Wow. I'm gonna have to get rid of all the old SF/fantasy stuff I don't read anymore, if I keep buying books like this... my shelves are already double-stacked AND have books piled horizontally on top of said stacks AND piled in front of them. I can't even move them into the den, because Mom's already created the same problem in there!

I have to work tomorrow, and then on Tuesday I get to take a field trip with Steph... all the way to G'boro, wowee. But the key word here is 'Steph'. :) Much fun shall be had; it is foreordained. You know-- like their destiny, 1999. Only without the severed heads. *cue sakura petals*

On second thought, there are a few of those hanging about. Never mind.

Mel, you could be attracted solely to other women and Kusanagi would STILL be hot. Promise. I contemplated buying one of those scary fanbooks just so I would have photos! XD *Laughs* Maybe this is all those hormones catching up with you, kinda like how obsessive-fan-ness kicked me in the ass with Gackt? Hee.

Oh, lord, speaking of.... I just MDed the entire 'Requiem et Reminiscence' concert VHS. I adore being able to stick that little digital cable into the headphone jack on my TV, yes I do. And I have decided that when I grow up < /kindergarten voice >, I want to be one of Gackt's guitarists. They have so much fun onstage, they make it look illegal. I mean, c'mon, I wanna wear a hoodie and cargo pants and crazy sneakers and jump up and down till I can't walk straight, too! ...Only onstage. With a guitar. (And with Gackt, of course.) *snarky grin*

Holy cow, Andre-- Diana and I were just talking about the exact same thing. That's freaky. And now I'm thirsty and I wish I could have a carton of aloe-grape juice....

On a side note, making CD covers in Photoshop is incredibly addictive. I've already taken care of most of the mix discs I've made this semester... heck, I'll do requests, too. Any takers? I mean, all I have to do is email it to you and you can print it out and stick it in the case.

I'm almost done! *dances* I just got out of my Religion exam, which was not as bad as I'd feared. It was a very odd exam; half the class basically monitored the other half. I was afraid I'd be in the monitored half, meaning that my grades weren't quite that hot; but I was in the supervising half! So I'm not as worried now, which is nice. And I don't have Art History till Tuesday, so I can take it easy tonight and possibly tomorrow too.

Yesterday was interesting... not entirely good because E's car got chomped by an SUV, so we spent a lot of time dealing with that. But my photo crit went really well, and we ate Thai for dinner-- yellow curry! It was amazing. I was afraid it wouldn't be as wonderful as Suchinda's cooking, but it was. It was really weird, too, because just smelling the coconut milk made me feel like I was back in the kitchen watching her cook. I miss the dessert she made an awful lot. Funny, now I think Thai food is my comfort food. It's just so lovely and has so many different flavors. *stomach growls*

So. On with the business of wrapping up this semester. It feels like it's barely happened; I was just home, I just got here, and now I'm going home again... and there's England to look forward to next spring! And computer classes next fall, no messy studio classes. Ah, bliss. Now, I just need to mail some letters, and put away my laundry, and start MDing all the stuff I've been putting off....

Hey Lisa, what do you mean, 'Fuubaru'? XD *cracks up* I'm dying to know if you heard that or made it up... because Steph and I did the same thing a month or so ago.

Ah, yes. Fun with (or at the expense of) CLAMP. The possibilities are as numerous as the bishounen. And far less angsty. ...Actually, that reminds me of the layout I didn't make last Friday; I had this really nice scan from Kamui and Fuuma's backstory in vol. 17, and I had it all fixed in Photoshop and was just thinking of text to go with it. When all I could come up with was either lyrics from 'Forever Young' or the title 'Hell is for Children', I scrapped it faster than you can say 'Seishirou-san'. When my imagination craps out, it doesn't do it by halves, apparently.

Anyway. On with PAINT!

So yeah. I had an entry going here a few minutes ago, and then the Debauchery art N sent me froze my computer. My Mac cannot handle Deb's amazin' sexin' powers, I guess. Either that, or N's computer was exacting revenge for the fact that my Flash movie made it crash. Woo!

It's hot and sticky outside today; definitely a day for GLAY music. But not One Love. That's winter music (well, except for Global Communication; it just screams 'POOL PARTY!!!') My CDs tend to make me think of whatever time of year/ place I was in when I bought them; thus the Slayers music all spring and summer, and the Paul Simon and Jimmy Buffett when I'm traveling. 'Graceland' is the ULTIMATE car CD, right next to 'One Particular Harbour'. But today, it's all about DRIVE. Both discs and the tape are cycling over and over in the stereo and the Walkman; it is a wonderful thing. My Gackt CDs make me want to sing and dance and they're gorgeous, but GLAY's songs just make you want to jump up and down like a little kid and gleefully belt the words for everyone to hear.

...And dance, of course. Takuro is a genius. (Gorgeous, too... but mostly, what a MIND, baby. Yum.)

We now return to our regularly scheduled program... PAINT!

I stayed up nearly all of last night cramming mysticism for Religion class. And did we even HAVE the quiz? Nope! (Not that I'm complaining...) Our professor was a *wee* bit peeved over the budget freeze that all the universities have been placed under. So. That kinda stole the thunder this morning.

*glares daggers in the direction of Raleigh* I am SO not pleased with our legislature right now. If I had a stomach for political action of any kind, I would definitely be looking into some education lobbying groups as soon as I graduate. ARGH. As it is, they shall taste my letter-writing wrath! RAAUR!

Spider-Man was infreakingcredible. I was afraid to look at my watch during the movie, because I didn't want to see that it was nearly over. But you know what really, really made me love it? (Besides the fact that it was SPIDER-MAN, and he rules)-- it was the shot where you see him swinging away over the street out of sight, and you can hear him gleefully yelling all the way.

I mean, I would certainly shriek for joy if I could do that. Oh, how I cannot wait for the sequel. Here's to a third, and a fourth....

And Nnnnnnnn!!! I LOVE DEB! The latest Jinks installment had me bust out laughing so suddenly, I'm sure my suitemates heard me. Poor, poor Simon... you amaze me. Love the background cameos, too. Love it all. I'd ask you to marry me, but I think I already did that.

In other news: Two more days of class left! My final Photography prints are done, matted and all. My website is ready for uploading, and I'm getting ready to tackle some Religion reading before I go to bed. I am one tired artist. (Not starving anymore, like Dave said; a foot-long steak sub took care of that quite nicely.)

WHEEEEEE!!!

Oh, wow, talk about being on a roll... I practically built an entire webpage from scratch in seven hours. As far as I can tell without actually uploading it to a server, it all works too! And what do I do when I get back to my room after ten straight hours in the studio? Gleefully park myself in front of MY big freakin' Mac and proceed to diddle with Photoshop. You're lookin' at the results. I'm still amazed at how much fun this is.

Anyway, the scan comes from a Nobuhiro Watsuki artbook, Kenshin Kaden. Absolutely delicious watercolors and black-and-white drawings, and chock-full of text and background info... too bad my copy's printed in Mandarin. >_< Stupid knockoffs.... If I had realized it was in Chinese, I wouldn't have bought it, but it was shrink-wrapped. And how could I resist Watsuki art?!?

That's enough outta me for tonight. I still have to live through this weekend before I can relax.
