Yay, I sold my old computer monitor for $125! And I have some sort of tv spot shoot tomorrow in Green Bay (for this company) that gets me $200 a day... for the one day. Sweet!

Uh... so last weekend we went to the racetrack, Arlington Park, in Illinois and I won $66 on one ticket. That was the win of the day within us three who went. In fact, it was the highest ticket any of us had ever seen. I hit a boxed exacta. (I chose the first and second place winners, in either order). It was pretty sweet! I only just recently spent the last of that money.

But then we went back today and I won a $365 ticket! :o
I hit the boxed trifecta (I chose the first, second, and third winners in any order). It's apparently ridiculously rare to get that... and it was only a $1 bet.. well $6 total. You put in a dollar and cover all six bets of possible combinations of places. Say Horses A, B, and C are boxed. The combinations of first second and third place are ABC, BAC, CAB, BCA, ACB, BCA, and are all $1 bets. You end up having spent $6 for the box.

So yeah, horse racing is a good time. My god.. if I had put in 2 bucks (resulting in a total of $12 for the bet) I'd have almost $800! So crazy.

Julia, we were at a bar with one of the trivia masters for Lawrence tonight. I have no idea why.... I guess she lives in David's old roommate's building...... She remembers the weirdass long name that Nate's first team had... the one that was all sponsers and something about grammas... she didn't remember Dator though. She said she was responsible for the all night Africa playing, and after I requested "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" and they started to play it all the time, it was her and some chick singing along everything.

Good times. What's the Dator website!

Well hell. I never thought searching my last name would yield the first result on the second page a comprehensive family tree. Especially of Hustons ACTUALLY related to me.

My grandmother's husband's brother's daughter was Miss Wisconsin 1952 and was on the cover of Life Magazine in 1952 for the Miss America Pageant. I HEARD she had a story because she had to drop out for being pregnant or something... but it doesn't say she had any kids... She seems to have a story because she duck hunted.. My parents have a copy of the magazine.

Life Magazine Cover

Huston's I'm not related to:

John and Angelica Huston.. thus not related to Jack Nicholson :(
Paul Huston... He worked on so many great movies!

Not my dad: Steve Huston, but also a Steve.
Not my mom: River Huston, but also a poet...

Bev Huston Christian Romance Novelist... weird.
Huston Rammed Earth Sounds interesting...

(Yes, I just copy and paste from blog to blog so everything is mostly the same... different people read each one!)

I was in Arkansas for 10 days or so.

Some interesting tid-bits:

I'd say the most amusing part was driving back from the Country Club (yes, golf courts and men only smoking/drinking rooms Country Club) in Little Rock in David's Aunt's Beamer convertible blasting this abnoxious rap song called "Pop my Trunk". I heard it twice while there. It sort of became the punch-line of the trip. I've yet to hear it here so I thought maybe it was a regional guy. At the very least he IS from Texas. A guy called "Wine-O". (This story is multi-level hilarious as you can tell.)
And for your enjoyment, here it is in full on this website! Pop My Trunk I mean.. the whistles.... the text to speech sounding singer.... "yeeap yeeap yeeap"... it's so hilarious.

While at David's Great Aunt and Uncle's farm/ranch place I got stuck in their bathroom. The top of the door had warped from having a wet towel draped over it. So when I shut it the door was wedged at the top and I thought I'd break the door if I pulled it any harder.... So now I'm the girlfriend who got stuck in the bathroom. :

They had a bunch of animals though. They had 3 wild Mustangs they had tamed. One of them bit my finger. It made a little red spot under my nail and that was it.

A billygoat named Bill.
A pig.
Lots of catfish in their pond.

And a dog who was all frolicky and happy to be there.

In Nashville where his Gramma lived, the Wal-mart was the biggest attraction. We went a minimum of twice a day.

Arkansas has a lot of copied names it seems... from Nashville, to Hollywood, to Arkadelphia. The trip back we amused ourselves by putting Ark into all the major city names. Ark Fransisco, Chicagark, (or Arkago), Las Arkas, Indianarkalis, Denvark, and my favorite was Arkuquerque.

In fact, I continue to be amused by this....

Baltimark
Detroiark
Milarkee
Portlark
Omahark
Honolarklark...

Following Alten Brown's lead, we ate some Kudzu off the side of the road. (After thorough washing).

That's all kudzu taking over trees and the whole ground.

I wanted to see some of the carAAAZY wildlife they had there...We saw a PICTURE of a wildboar. It had attacked his uncle's truck so they shot it and plopped it aboard. It was the size of a 300 pound man. (I don't know when the picture was actually taken.) Two roadside dead armadillos were spotted, although I only saw one of them in my rearview mirror. Brad said he saw a dead snake at one point, and I saw the tail end of a coyote as it ran across the highway on the way back. David smashed a tick with a scrabble piece holder. We saw some roaches here and there... outside.

I tried to teach David how to swim in the Little Rock Uncle's pool. It was cute. Teaching someone to swim is hard though. The best he did was float out into the deep end in an innertube. It was progress.

We increased our DSlite game collection from 8 to 14. Metroid Pinball being my favorite buy I think.

We heard a car crash while we were in the pool. An SUV rolled after hitting another car just outside of the subdivision gates.

A store called Dillards was having a crazy ass sale. Things that were already 50% off were an additional 30% off. Pretty much the whole store was on sale. I got some shoes that were once $85 on sale for $32 including tax.

Mike's (hard liquer) margarita mix isn't very good. Oh, and there are no bars in Arkansas. It was crazy..

Missouri and Arkansas have 70mph speed limits on the highway :)

Snakes on a Plane in Madison on the 17th. Crazy. We were in a theater that's also a bar so everyone was mostly drunk. It made it that much more amusing.

I've been in Arkansas for 10 days. And am now back.

David got me a Concertina for my birthday.

David may very well be on Jeopardy!

Saturday he went to the big tryout for it with 1500 other people and passed the test. It seemed like maybe 150 people passed or so. There were three sessions Sunday of those people, taking another test. They weeded out some more people to what was a group of 12 in his session. There were probably about the same in the other two. So now he's in the contestant pool and can be contacted anytime in the next year to go to L.A. to shoot a show. Supposedly they need 400 people a season for the show and they only got about 36 from the Milwaukee tryouts. Chances are good. Plus he was at LEAST 10 years younger than the rest of the 12 in his session, closer to 30 years younger than most.

So you might see him on Jeopardy sometime this year!

We've lived at this building since... March? We're on our 5th and 6th different apartment managers. (Since the last two, there have been two managers working together for this building.) 6th apartment manager is being replaced in a few days already. The 5th will still be here I guess.

Yesterday I made some phone calls to the people who pick up our garbage and asked if in fact they separated out the recyclables from the trash, as per what our manager told us. And of course, they don't. The managers continue to think they do, but the garbage company said Gorman doesn't have a recycling program with them at all. SOMEone better get a fine here real soon. In addition to getting some recycling bins.

Drunken Master

And apparently Syd Barrett has officially died. I swear it was this conspiracy that he was supposedly already dead since like the 70s, but then people were like "No! I've seen him! I swear he's alive!". It's weird that it's not a big deal that he is now actually dead. Like an Elvis style conspiracy of big deal.

Save Screech's House

Buy a T-shirt from Dustin Diamond to contribute to the fund for his house. He lives in Port Washington! (About 40 miles north, where David's mom and brother live!)

And as if desecrating church grounds wasn't bad enough,
Trevey asked the self proclaimed punk about another mistake he made.

Trevey: "Do you know you spelled Satan wrong?"
Groth: "No - I'm not aware of that."
Trevey: "You spelled it satin - like the fabric."

I think it was a bad career move not to go to Tufts. (in conjunction with SMFA) Too bad it was way out of budget... which is the reason I didn't go. I don't think I even have the acceptance letter anymore :(

Nooo! The Matador isn't coming out on DVD until the 4th of July!

Heh.

Hello, I'm a PC, and I'm a Mac

Tuesday, May 16, 2006 09:52 a.m.
Sorry, but Apple is going too far with their commercials. I don't buy the "No really, we're actually cooler than you." campaign.

If you haven't seen them, it's two guys in screen. A 40 something man in a suit and glasses as pc, a 20 something cool guy as the mac. And the pc acts like an idiot old man who doesn't know anything about technology while the dude is all cool like "oh, here, let me get tech for you. I never freeze and have to restart."

Bullshit you don't.

Oh hey, here's a LINK . There's actually a commercial CALLED "Better".

Elitist fucks.

Huh.. They're adding in a couple more shows to Summerfest I'd see now. It seems like they're filling in slots with weird random bands for all different age groups, like Bowling for Soup...

Still, the two or three shows I'd see are on the 5th: Flogging Molly, Mike Doughty. They overlap a little though. D'oh.
I see they put a DJ set back in, which is pretty awesome. Not quite BT and Crystal Meth, but still cool. Digitgal Underground! I didn't go to the show they had downtown a few months ago.

Summerfest Lineup

Bah. There's maybe one or two shows I'd go to see, but boy will my parents come down like every day. It's nice that I move to within like 3 blocks of Summerfest and they "go for a more adult crowd" so that no one I like is playing.

Here's the painting I won by Dwellephant I'll have to see about getting a better shot when it's actualy on the wall... still moving stuff around here.

I think if and when I move to New York after school is over I'm going to take stunt driving courses between shoots. I still think it'd be pretty awesome to be a stunt driver in movies.
