I'm not angry anymore.

Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson are the shame of Christians everywhere.
Click here if you want to be angry.

Of course, now comes the part where our fearless leaders pass stupid anti-democratic laws that have nothing to do with what actually happened. Sometimes I wish congress was just a little LESS of a cliche.
In other news, I think this is the end of anyone feeling bad about cultural imperialism. I really do.
To paraphrase Friedman, the Olive Tree is in deep s**t.

And won't this perpetuate the third and first world? Are we really going to globalize 50%, and tell the other 50% to jump off something?

I just don't know.
I don't think we're going to be able, as Americans, as residents of a new, thoughtful, somewhat civilized world, to take this as far as it would need to go.
I mean, I think we can handle this one of three ways.
1. Handled it as we've handled previous terrorist attacks. Investigate carefully, move slowly towards action, try to approach getting the bad guys like we hunt down criminals. This hasn't proved enormously successful in the past.
2. Give up and withdraw forces and support in the middle east. Obviously this isn't going to happen, so I won't even discuss it.
3. Go in there with the big guns. If they think of us as the bad guys, so be it.
Right now we're leaning towards number 3. That scares the hell out of me. Because we've been in Bosnia. We've seen Rwanda. Becoming a real enemy doesn't solve anything, and the people you blast hate you for a thousand years.
But I mean, what in God's name is the alternative?

09:40 p.m.
I was walking into the apartment this evening and looked up at the kitchen light, and thought, "We seem to be experiencing some difficulties with our flourescent life."
Never before has it been this clear to me that we, as modern humans, exist in multiple realities at once. A devastating event in one becomes a minor inconvenience in another. Where are we going with this?

I think today is the day it's all going to begin.
The question is, what "it" are we talking about here?

Was driving Liz to work this morning, and discovered that Portland is now home to a massive Carnival Cruise ship. The scale of these things is really amazing... it really towers over Commercial St. and the harbor.

Well. We actually had a very nice time with Jim, Karen, and Elise and I didn't have to hide at all. But now it's back to Avernum. :)

10:07 a.m.
Another lazy Sunday. Liz's co-workers are coming over after work. I plan to hide.
Awful nightmare last night. I think I ate the wrong thing. When I have nightmares I remember (which is rare) they generally involve being held bodily against my will. There's probably some psychoanalysis to be done there.

Mmm. Had much better sleep last night. We had Liz's mother and sister over for tea and pastries, which was nice.
Liz has taken the car, and I think it's going to be a lazy Saturday of Avernum and Last Blade. And perhaps I'll get some reading in too.

Man, I had some kind of EXTREMELY complicated dream last night about
A: The Japanese, in submarines
B: Underwater intrigue, and
C: People trying to hide me in oddly-shaped refrigerators.
I can't remember whether it tied together in any particularly meaningful way. Probably not.

Bought Last Blade 2 last night, along with a cheap copy of Disciples Gold.
Quick review of Last Blade 2. Last Blade 2=good.
All right then. Today I shall venture forth in search of employment. And who knows, I might even find some.

So I dented an old lady's car today. That made me feel just GREAT. Ladies and Gentlemen, Andrew Sarazin, giant tool.
In other news, I registered Avernum. Probably the first time I've ever bought shareware.

So, Harry Potter number something won the Hugo award this year.
Now, I have nothing against Harry Potter, but that's like Jethro Tull winning the grammy for best metal band... If you look at the history of the Hugo awards, there are some great SF books to be found. Harry Potter, while cool, isn't even SF at ALL. It seems like a bizarre publicity grab on the part of the awards, like "let's appropriate Harry Potter for the SF community". But I guess the SF community has never been anything but bizarre.

AIM is a cunning predator of my free time.
You know, it's funny. I've resisted the idea of creating a personal webpage for years because it seems vaguely narcissistic, and because I don't have much to put on it. Now that I have one, I'm not really sure what to do with it.

Last night's weird dream of choice involved me flying around on a carpet in some kind of Sonic-esque track choosing paths that involved various hard drugs, like "turn left for crystal meth, turn right for crack cocaine."
I think I need to stop watching The Big Lebowski.

Ti-i-i-i-red. Need the sleep something awful. Currently playing Avernum... kind of. I really WANT to like it, but everything's really tiny and it makes my little brain hurt so.

I have created a headache-inducing apocalypse of color. It pleases me.

I think I may have a real blue fixation when it comes to web pages. Although green is nice too. Greeeen.... yes, maybe green is what I need.

A topical story.
Just reminds me that I don't fit the profile for a web-log maintainer.
Also, 1 of 5 teenagers have a website? That's 4 million websites. That's a LOT of websites. The mind reels...

Had a dream last night about writing a web page. Can't remember anything else about it, though.
I've been having a lot of dreams lately. Who knows why.

I think one of the marks of a true friend may be the ability to understand when someone's rudeness should just be ignored, as if it wasn't there.
Either that, or they're just really, really clueless.
Blah blah testy

Testing out URL stuff and sticking a link here to get colors to the point where they're non-headache inducing.
Linky of much good

Late night, fooling around with the html for this log. I forgot how much fun little fiddling stuff like this could be.

This is a test of the emergency Andrew Sarazin blog system. This is only a test. Go home now.
