Ah... the Weekend
Sunday, November 9, 2003
I had a very relaxing and fun weekend... which I havent been able to say in a while. I stayed in lafayette friday night and did nothing. Saturday, I went to Carrollton (with Abhi in tow) to the football game, in which the football team lost badly, but the band rocked (as always). They performed their third show (I'm losing count) plus Cheer. The crowd loved it and it looked and sounded great. I saw some alumnuseseses plus confirmed my spot for the Valdosta Trip. Afterwards, Huddle House with some of the crew followed by stuff and then a movie night. Came back sunday at 5am and slept late :-D.
If anyone of you has not yet been to Urban Dictionary, I recommend you do so; It is very informational and can be funny too. (The link is above entitled, "Ah... the Weekend"

Halloween and Such
Tuesday, November 4, 2003
My car is still running :-)
This past weekend was too short and too tiring. Friday night was halloween, but before i could go party, i had to work, go to 99x and pick up the Coldplay Live DVD, and go home and get stuff ready for my brothers reception.

The Party
The party was in Dunwoody, held by one of the co-op's friends. Being a halloween party, everybody was dressed up. I went as the Undead Flasher, in the traditional regalia (trenchcoat) with a skeleton mask (w/ lightup eyes) and camera, but got tired of the mask really quickly. So I spent most of the night as 'The Flasher'. No, I didn't really flash, i just took pictures, hence, 'The Flasher'. There were some interesting costumes present, but not many equated to 'God's Gift to Women' and the 'Inflatable Sumo'. It got kind of freaky when Dorothy showed up with Peter Pan and 'God's Gift to Women' advised other partygoers 'hit that S*#@', that being the Deviltwins/Belly Dancers, one of which was his sister. The party died about 4 except for when a few drifted in after last calls. I went home and passed out.

My Brother's Wedding Reception
So i woke up late, due to the previous (22 hour) day and hustled around getting stuff together and made for the reception, slated for 4 pm. My contribution was a huge platter of Lavalish (or however its spelled) and a bunch of wings of which only 1/3 were eaten (there were plenty there). I had a fun time despite all the rushing around I had to do. The food was really good, it was good seeing everybody that showed up, and I'm glad my brother and his new wife had a chance to share this with family and friends. Sunday was a day of rest, as was intended, and i ended up in Lafayette late, but its all good.

That's all I can think of at the moment. We have Co-op movie night tonight, with The Matrix Reloaded scheduled so we'll be ready for Revolutions when it comes out on the 5th.

My Car, Resurrected Once Again
Tuesday, October 28, 2003
So my car has been an endless cycle with this Wax-On, Wax-Off power problems. It seems that it was indeed the Alternator that was the problem (as far as I know; its not battery or wiring or some other drain). This led to the purchase of a new battery (mistake #1) I did not need, but by the time i realized this, i had already turned my old battery in to be recycled. I bought a new alternator and installed it myself (mistake #2). During the installation, I neglected to read the large orange tag attached to the box which stated that the battery should be charged fully before changing the alternator. As a result, the new alternator was strained in trying to start/run the car and charge the Ubermax battery back to full. The flow of current through the internal regulator overheated and burned out the microcircuitry and the fancy spanking new $75 part was kaput. Thank Goodness for warantees. I took it back to Autozone where they swapped me for a second brand spanking new alternator and charged my battery so it doenst happen again. As time progresses, I'll keep you updated.
On a lighter note, my brother's wedding reception is Saturday (anybody want free food) in Conyers, so we've been getting food and stuff ready. I still havent bought the gift yet, but i think i know what they need/want. Hope it all goes well.
The President and CEO of GE gave a company-wide address, and i sent out a semi-derogotory email criticizing how it was conducted. If I am still employed in 2 weeks, i might be in the clear. If i dissapper, never to be seen again, you'll know where i went.

Yes, I am a slacker

I realize that nobody really cares, but I am going to write more in here. That being said...
Work is tiring... I have been working on a big project for quite a while and am sorta ready to have it be over. My boss says he has some other stuff for me to to, but it has yet to appear. Registration for Spring starts next week and i dont have a flying flip what i need to take, so I'll be rushing around like a Northern Asian (get it?) tuesday and wednesday.
On a lighter note, I've been watching the Westga Band evolve. Part of that is Dr. Overmier, part of that is the roster, but most of it is the Attitude. I've been doing a bit of presentation (a.k.a. Announcing), which is kind of a power rush, and I've been wondering what would happen if some unscripted vocabulary "accidentally" slipped out, but I'm sure not gonna find out. They asked if I wanted to go on the Valdosta Trip as well, so I'm going to try and work it in somehow.
Right now, I'm going home to get ready for my brother's wedding reception thingie on Nov. 1. It ought to be ...interesting.

You are The Cap'n!

Some men are born great, some achieve greatness and some slit the throats of any man that stands between them and the mantle of power. You never met a man you couldn't eviscerate. Not that mindless violence is the only avenue open to you - but why take an avenue when you have complete freeway access? You are the definitive Man of Action. You are James Bond in a blousy shirt and drawstring-fly pants. Your swash was buckled long ago and you have never been so sure of anything in your life as in your ability to bend everyone to your will. You will call anyone out and cut off their head if they show any sign of taking you on or backing down. You cannot be saddled with tedious underlings, but if one of your lieutenants shows an overly developed sense of ambition he may find more suitable accommodations in Davy Jones' locker. That is, of course, IF you notice him. You tend to be self absorbed - a weakness that may keep you from seeing enemies where they are and imagining them where they are not.

Its a good day for a white wedding
Saturday, June 21, 2003
This week has been reserved for fall co-op job interviews with Shaw Industries (a carpet manufacturer in Dalton), Crowder Construction (a firm based in Raleigh, North Carolina, but i'd be working in Conyers/McDonough), and the Southern Company, where id be working in a coal power plant somewhere in the SE.
Went to my cousin Rebekah's wedding today, and apart from being rather scorching outside, it was pretty cool. Had a short ceremony, but i guess you cant have a unity candle in direct sunlight/90 degree heat... wouldn't look good on the marriage if the candle melted and went out before the ceremony was over. The food was great, mostly because her father is the proprietor of an appetizer-catering company... big ol' shrimp, beef wellington, duck quesadillas (which we fed some of to the ducks in the lake; isnt that sacrelidge or something?), and cake of course.

What a senseless waste of life
Tuesday, June 10, 2003
So i am still jobless and such with no immediate end in sight cause JJ&G hasnt called and wal-mart has officially terminated me, so now im just in limbo. On a brighter note, interviews for fall coop's are coming up soon... maybe i can find something high paying with free housing out of town... parents are starting to get annoying... well they always are, its just now more than ever. -~<(@\_^_/@)>~- So i was bored and took a trip to Marietta to and saw my brothers gf and their friend Dan. We had some chinese food and went and bought some stuff, 1 thing being an Albert Brooks movie entitled 'Defending Your Life'. Oh, and the Batman movie, the real one with Adam West... its a classic. I gotta get off this planet.

Summer .. oh yeah, isn't it supposed to be fun?
Wednesday, June 4, 2003
Well the summer doldrums have settled. I am still as of yet unemployed cause the job people are just sitting around trying to 'figure out if theres enough work for me'. We'll see how it all turns out. On a positive note, i did go to the Renaissance Festival twice (once with my brother and his fiancee and once with group of westgans) and saw pretty much everything cept the joust, which really aint much to miss. I pondered buying a sword and at $51 would probably be a good deal, but i dont know how my cash flow is til i am employed. I considered buying a whole outfit and quickly realized how insane you have to be to buy one, especially at those prices... But i finally had a turkey leg. When our high school class went, we had like 6 people get sick from eating them so i never tried em. Its not bad, just a little pricey. The thing that bothers me is the "period" food... from the quesadillas to the root beer floats to the fried macaroni-and-cheese on a stick (I'm still confised about that one). At least they could serve some fresh fruit {apples or something} and some mead... i dont consider chardonnay a period drink. Ok, ill stop complaining now and recommend that everybody go if they havent already, theres only 1 weekend left.

Seattle, Big Whoopee!!
Tuesday, May 27, 2003
I noticed I forgot to write about our family trip to Seattle, Washington, so here goes... We left at ghettoclock in the morning on Saturday, and with a relatively easy passage of security (other than the compulsory pat down and wanding by a hot brunette in uniform [just kidding (that was on the way back :-)]. We hopped a Northwest Flight to Memphis, Tennessee and were overrun by a virtual onslaught of Elvis souvenirs on our 55 minute layover. We then boarded a 717 to Seattle, upon which the worst breakfast in the history of my life, even worse than .....yea {at least they have waffles}. But anyways... We landed at 11:30ish Pacific Time and retrieved baggage, got our rental car (a new silver Chevy Malibu, supposedly a "full-size" car), and got on the road. We drove around Tacoma and a bit of the road south of Town. The schedule that night provided for my father to attend a Vintage Auto Race held monthly, and even got his picture on their website []. The remaining family members had some supper and went to a few thrift stores. I will take this opportunity to explain a bit about my family and thrift stores. We have a penchant for buying stuff we probably could do without or get for full price at a big store, but don’t have a lot of liquid cash to blow, so we tend to visit places with cheap, quality stuff, i.e. thrift stores, garage sales, etc. So on our trip we went to a total of 7 thrift stores, 4 used bookstores, and 3 used record/cd stores, bringing home a net of 62 books, plus untold clothes, music, assorted stuff and a leather guitar case (I'll get to that later). Anyways... Eventually ended up at our hotel, a nice Ramada with Pool/Spa/Sauna, having been up since 3 am Eastern time, thus about a 23 hour day. We awoke early the next morning and drove to Port Angeles (a small town on the Olympic Peninsula) and got on a car ferry headed to Victoria, British Columbia, yea I know, they're Canadian, but I won't hold it against them. We saw a bit of the town... They are known for the port waterfront and the seaplanes that take off every 3 minutes or so. It’s quaint, in a Canadian provincial capital kind of way; except for an almost fanatical devotion to Queen Victoria (I don’t know, still trying to figure that one out... {Our chief weapon is surprise.., surprise and fear, Our Two Weapons are surprise and fear and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope..., wait, thats the Spanish Inquisition [weren’t expecting it, were you], never mind...} I found a great t-shirt for Rhodesia (Jason Kennedy), which said the following (plus I’ve added some:-0): I AM CANADIAN. 1) Saying Eh! is better than saying Huh? 2) I am not a mountie nor am I a Trapper 3) Snowboarding is not our National Sport, Its Curling, Duh 4) I don't have a pet beaver, thank you very much 5) We do not shovel snow all year round, just 10 months out of the year 6) The only Canadian bacon here comes from Canadian Pigs, the stuff you people have is HAM! 7) Our Parliament Building is not an Igloo 8) The Maple Leaf is our national symbol get high off of it! 9) We still have the best hockey players. 10) We ARE the second largest country in the world, Take that you SUV-driving P.E. Yanks... 11) My second car is not a dogsled, its a snowmobile! 12) I wear sneakers, not snowshoes (well, when my boots are in the shop) 13) I wear a Toque, not a Fur Hat! I AM CANADIAN!! Ok, back to Tourist stuff... So they have a science museum with an IMAX and even an Old Spaghetti Factory (that’s right, just like the one in ATL), none of which we partook, it was getting late. So we hightailed it back to our hotel and hit the deck,...erm sack, yea that’s it. The next day was reserved for my mother to have a day at a supposedly well-known garden in the area, so while she did that, we saw the town of Sydney, the rocky cliffs overlooking the Puget Sound (or a bay offshoot), and the unspoiled wilderness spoiled when they put a nice big 6 lane expressway though there. The one thing that amazed me about that part of the world is the forests. Here, we are used to the white pine and scrubby oaks. There, they have massive redwoods, cypress, must be 60+ distinct conifers, all beautiful in their own way, and some are way huge in comparison. Anyway, she got done at her garden and we went and saw more stuff. The next day, we got up early to get back in the line to get on the ferry... the demand is high til the ferries that only operate in the summer open up mid-may. So we get back to Washington (or Warshingtin as my mom says) On the way back, the skyline above the Port Angeles is highlighted with snowcapped mountains which amazes us who come from the low country. (I mean, when our church group went backpacking in Colorado, our only water source was melted snow, and of course, we had the compulsory snowball fight... stupid Georgia kids....) So we got back, drove around, and ended up having a great seafood dinner, its not good seafood unless its fresh, and this was fresh, and better 'chowdah' than we had in Boston, plus the Oysters, Scallops, Flounder, Shrimp, and the rest. The next day, we finally got the chance to play tourist in Seattle itself. We saw the Space needle and went up to the top. The 360 degree view is amazing. It was built for the 18-something world fair and is still amazing. They have a restaurant that also rotates, but with entrees starting at $21, we opted for a Grande Starbucks Cappuccino, it is Seattle after all. We also went to the pier 54 market where they do all the fish-tossing and such, plus they have some interesting shops there, like one just of left-handed stuff for southpaws, it was eerie. We drove around a bit, and pretty much you can't go anywhere in that area without seeing Mt. Rainer, the tallest mountain in the Continental US. I will say, its quite impressive, with its eternal white cover. But we were too late in the day to go to the actual park, so we just admired it from afar. Our time was about up. We went to the hotel for the last night and cooked on the kitchen that was in there, apparently used to be a suite. We got up at ghetto-clock again to hop a plane back, but there were complications. The cockpit door wouldn’t close fully, so our flight would have been delayed just enough to miss our connection in Detroit, so we got the sweet upgrade to a non-stop straight to the ATL, getting back a good 3 hours ahead of time. Didn’t really help much, since we lost the 3 hours in the time-change. In all, it wasn't a bad trip, but i won’t need to go back for a while. I was going to tell you about the guitar-bag, but that’s a whole 'nother story.

Summer Boredom

Its been a while since my last entry, so ill try to update ya on everything you missed... Friday, i had a job interview with Jordon, Jones, and Goulding, a big PSE firm in Norcross. More later.

Well, Its over
Thursday, May 8, 2003
Well, the school year is over finally, and didn't turn out quite as well as I had hoped... It wasn't due to a lack of intelligence (well I dont think so) or a lack of study (almost 24/7 hitting the books), they were just frikin hard. Because of the grades I got, they are limiting me to 16 hours the next semester I attend, not academic probation or anything, just school policy. But enough griping... After it was all over, i headed to Carrollton (yea i know, the hotbed of social activities) for some serious R&R. So I hung out with everybody, saw the new X-men (it rox), and played a few games of starcraft on the pitiful westga network, as well as another great party at C-6 :-). Yea I stayed in a study carroll for most of the time. The Huge weather front came through dumping almost 5 inches of water on westga and tornados to boot (yes, they did have us huddling in the bathrooms for a while), But that's Georgia Weather for ya. Next on the schedule is the family trip to seattle and then i don't know... dont have a job for the summer or fall yet. I'll let ya know when i do.

I think im going bald

Having taken half of my finals, i have come to the conclusion that stress is causing my hair to fall out.... nothing permanent, I was just sitting there working on a critical resolve shear stress problem in MSE and noticed my hairs all over the paper, desk, and myself... Its definitely time for this all to be over. All i have now is Statics and Statistics; if you dont know the difference then your probably in the same state as myself, dazed and confusion. But once again the books call...
