Wal-mart finally did get around to firing me for not coming back after a LOA, but all that did was nix my discount card, and since I will be back in lafayette, my career in retail might be over for good.... thank all that is holy and merciful for higher education. I am back at Tech finally. I did get a dorm room still in Armstrong and moved in about a week late, due to a semi-disabled car, etc... Got a new roommate, an American-born soccer player named Pratik Karan, he seems pretty cool and once he got his stuff on only 1 side of the room, its all good. Classes are going to be a pain; Just means i'll have to start studying... doing homework... studying... studying....... yea, oh what fun this will be.
Once i got done moving, I headed to Carrollton to do some catching up; in terms of with friends and on my lan gaming. We've been talking about having another big lan party soon, but no definite plans or details yet.
Here's the Scoop
Tuesday, January 6, 2004
I have neglected to write anything in a while, so i will try and catch ya'll up... not that anybody will read this or care.
I managed to avoid working at wal-mart all break by being a bum and blaming my lack of free time on family gatherings, my extended stay in La Fayette, and the 4 meter tall and wide pile of clothes to wash, dry, and sort. Those unwanted articles that are too nice to turn into rags will be boxed and given away. The problems stem from the fact that since I have stopped growing taller, I kept procuring clothes at the previous rate; It got to the point where i had 3 closets worth of clothes and 11 pairs of shoes. I then realized that i was male and straight so this was way too much. It will be rectified ASAP.
Everyone else seems to have included some synopsis of New Year's as well, so it seems I should too. I had the pleasure of attending a gathering hosted by the one and only Jamie Warner, a full-time cook at Waffle House, and apart from ceasing to attend the University of West Georgia and having a run-in with the Carrollton police earlier in the fall, he manages to maintain some semblence of a social life, some skill on the guitar, and a constant mindset of coolness regardless of others opinions.
But anyways... the party
I was the first to arrive (after the residents that is) which is a rarity for any Rowan, but I attribute this to the fact that I thought the party started 2 hours before everyone else did. Others slowly trickled in until we resolved to wait at waffle house for the stragglers whilest we ate. The environment seemed rather cordial considering the parties that were present, but maybe I have been out of it for a while. We then proceeded to Kroger for nourishement replenishment, or more food (as the common man would say).
For those of you that were unable to attend, the lucky persons to be present were the host and his family, myself, Bronn (with plastic white hat in tow), Rhodesia and Christina, Jeebs and Carleen, Justin and Megan, Jessie (for a new york minute) and other assorted people. It was a rather normal, and thus a pretty good time. There were fireworks, decent music, and a pool table, but being surrounded by friends is party enough for me. I must be getting old or something. While other people complain about others complaining, I was asleep and managed to ignore all of it and would do exactly the same if i was there and the aforementioned started knocking me in my presence. Anyways, the party came to an end as all parties are apt to do and everyone blew away with the four winds, and I myself returned to the the virtual black hole that is Conyers. I continued with my quest to be a bum, but was interrupted as I had to work on my car and do some cleaning as stuff I brought home from La fayette displaced stuff that I had kept from 1993. Saturday, January 3 brought about the annual Eagle Scout Reunion. I saw some old friends that i haven't spoken with in years and we spent about 4 hours in 2 different parking lots just reminiscing about the good old days and catching up on what we had been doing since. The kids i left behind at High School are now at UGA(sic), Georgia Tech, Clayton State, Emory, a co-op job in Arizona, etc. They will also probably go out and join the real world before I will. At the current rate, I plan to graduate in Fall 2005 or Spring 2006 depending on how my co-op rotation works out. Speaking of school....
So it begins: That being school. Another semester has begun again and the rigor of classes and studying has once again become the focus of attention. This semester will include the much-dreaded Thermodynamics, Mechanics of Materials, and Dynamics of Rigid Bodies as well as Modern Physics and Electronic Circuits. I will once again have the sanity-maintaining pleasure of being in the Georgia Tech Chorale. Just looking at the syllabi, I can tell its not going to be a fun time. I might have to start....whats the word.... stuh...stuh...stuh...stuh-dying; yea thats the word. I'll keep you updated on my so-called-progress as time goes on.
My current project is dl'ing all the episodes of newsradio and after that, i try and get Due South... theres just too much quality TV that goes to waste while the networks have gone to an all-reality-tv-all-the-time format.

Feliz Navidad
Thursday, December 25, 2003
Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat;
Please to put a penny in the old man's hat;
If you haven't got a penny, a half-penny will do;
If you haven't got a half-penny, then god bless you.
Not to cast a religious overtone on this otherwise secular and capitalistic holiday, but i would like to point out that it is Christmas.... Anyways, Christmas was pretty good... my family had its traditional gifts and dinner thing, and although the menu and style of gifts have changed, a lot remains the same. I talked with quite a few people about their Christmas, and many are glad for the day off or the chance to share some time with their family (which they usually avoid). Others are stuck at grandparents houses with little annoying... i mean darling, sweet, angelic cousins running around. In Christmases past, I have felt much of this. Back in the good old days, Christmas was a magical time when everybody was happy, Santa came and left toys, (and there was no school). I hope that now and in the future, a little of that happiness and faith and love can be retained and shared with everybody i know and meet. I hope that you and yours (whatever that means) have a merry christas, happy kwanzaa, happy chaunakah, happy new year, happy whatever.... Just enjoy the season. ~<:-() HO HO HO
Its Over... What? Did you say Over? Nothing is over til we've decided it.

Ok, so its over... for now. The Fall Work term flew by so fast and so need-i-say painlessly that I didn't even realize i was working. The only difficult part I had was moving out of the apartment which took a truckload, 3 carloads, and 10 hours or so of cleaning. Currently, my queen-size bed, desk and table are stored in my cousin's barn... yes, I am from Conyers.
I tried to go see Lord of the Rings: Return of the King... Twice... failing both times, because Chattanooga theatres suck. I plan to fix this ASAP now that I'm back in Conyers. And speaking of things north of I-20, I'm trying to avoid going back to Wal-mart if at all possible. Maybe I'll just work for 1 week after Christmas. I gotta go see the personnel guy and see if he fired me yet. I probably won't be online much over the holidays, so if you just wanna talk to me, call my home # {(770) 918-8863} [not that anybody wants to talk to me]. What's going on New Year's Eve? I dunno, depends on if i have to work or not. I'll let ya know.
The End is Near

Apart from a good thanksgiving and some time spent in Carrollton, these last weeks have past quickly. There are only 3 days of work left before break, and i guess I'm ready for it to be over. Most of the coops are gone, and i have the 3-bedroom apt. to myself for a week, most of which will be spent cleaning. 'Return of the King' comes out tonight and plans are in place to go and see it. I'll let you know how it is.
Wow...

This work term/semester has just flown by... literally. I remember the the first day of work which seems like just a few weeks ago. Theres only about 2 weeks left and in that time, I have to try and finish up all the projects I have been working on and make a good impression so they will have me back in the summer.
In related news, this means the spring semester is approaching rapidly. I have registered for classes and have a place to live. They have put me in an apartment which is cool, but i don't know if I have the $2528 that it costs; I'll be doing good if I have the $1812 for the regular dorm. I will be working on that for a while.
Social Gathering AlertThe upstairs neighbor has been partying for the last 13 days straight... We'll see how long it lasts.

So after leaving the embattled fields of paintball, I started the long drive to Cordele. Approximately 6 hours later (not counting a short stop in Locust Grove) plus some time driving around lost in Cordele itself, I arrived at the football stadium utilized by Crisp County High School. In addition to the 2 football teams and their cheerleaders, plus the two other bands and all the parents, friends, relatives, and fans, the Westga Band barely managed to cram into the small set of stands in the north end zone. All three bands had their versions of Rap songs (which in my opinion are not really good for marching band, but who cares what i think?) so one band would play their (bad) arrangement after which the others would feel the need to best them by playing their own crappy versions).
But to get off my soapbox.... After watching the high schools' halftimes (yes, i do miss the good old days of friday night games and the like), the band got ready to stupify and amaze everyone at post game. Everyone ignored the football game as usual and just had a wicked good time even if it was a bit nippy. The game ended, but the show was about to begin.
With me in my regular position, I introduced, "THE SOUND THAT LIGHTS THE SOUTH". They did the latin show plus 'Georgia' and 'Freeze Frame' and enjoyed it almost as much as the crowd did, although its hard to give yourselves a standing 'O'. Tired and Happy, the buses were loaded and the trip to Valdosta could continue. In the frozen land of Nador, they were forced to eat a few of the drummers. And there was much rejoicing. (yay). We finally arrived at the hotel (where I was given my own free 2-double-bed room) and everybody was thoroughly exhausted, so crashing ensued (well, if you don't include the trip to WaHo). The next morning, everybody got up, had some free breakfast, and got ready for the game. The game went as follows. Westga scored twice then gave up. The final score was irrelevent, but needless to say, it was not pretty. The bands on the other hand had a good time. The usual announcer showed up, so i got to watch in awe and admiration as the SOUND THAT LIGHTS THE SOUTH played their hearts out, and quite a job of that they did! Valdosta's band was pretty good too, and I am required by law to mention that (since my cousin is a member of their visual ensemble) their flag corps had it going on... or something like that. Afterwards, I had a bit of dinner (ok, so it was a steak dinner) with all my family that came down for the game; its kind of a tradition now. I was invited to go bar-hopping with my cousins (some of which are 3-4 years younger than myself, which made me feel a bit old (and awkward)). But i just ended up going to eat again with band friends at Applebees. Ended up going to a
"coffee house" which ended up looking like a quaint bar to hear a "christian group" which ended up doing some pretty good covers of new rock. The band, called 'Wilson Empire' had a bassist that was appoximately my height, which gave me a new self-perspective of how I might be viewed by others. The night ended just hanging around the hotel room with peoples and some ultra-coolaid.Sunday, I woke up late and missed following the buses to Wild Adventures (a zoo/theme park south of Valdosta), so i had to find my way down there and ended up paying to park. But it was worth a free admission (and a free lunch thanks to megan and her sister's foresight and generosity). We rode all the coasters and had a whopping good time. I ended up being dehydrated by the end of the day which probably helped the impending sickness take root. We left the park at 6pm and began the long and arduous trip back. Of course, i had an extra 90 minutes of driving beyond what they all did, so i left them and sped back. By this time, i wasn't feeling too well, so i was glad when the journey came to the end. Overall, I had a really good time and am glad I took the chance to enjoy some of the college life I have been missing by working my co-op job.Disclaimer: I am sure there are some details I have left out (some of which are intentional), but if you remember something I don't let me know. ~~Tallbot
Welts, Bruises, and Paint Stains; Oh My!
Friday, November 13, 2003
This past weekend was pretty cool. I seem to remember... *rubs chin thoughtfully as scene shimmers in in the traditional flashback way*. Friday morning started like any other normal friday. Woke up, went to work, checked my email. Then it all went disasterously wrong! All of a sudden, I found myself whisked away from the oh-so-exciting work that I get to do everyday, to a world of hate, destruction, and high-velocity paintballs. Some people wore Camo, some wore sweaters. I wore a big ugly padded jumpsuit. It started out innocently, with the Mentors mercilessly destroying the Co-ops in 2 fast-paced speedrounds. The fearless co-ops struck back by assaulting and defending the fort with deadly accuracy and effective countertactics. Everybody got hit, but some more than others. Some people chose to fall and sprain their ankle. I was not one of those people. We paused momentarily for lunch and a breather, then headed to The Tower. After being improperly advised by the ref about what stragedy to use, we spent all our time trying to take a heavily defended (and we think unfairly resupplied) tower. Right before the hapless mentors were about to be slaughtered, the ref called, "Time" and our chance had passed.At this point, I had to leave, knowing full well that I would miss some quality fierce struggles and even more bruising. But I had to head south, so I bid my brethren and opponents adieu.
