Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at 04:04 p.m.

when opportunity knocks, they do it together.

my stomach feels weird right now. i have no idea why. anyway yesterday night was fun chatting on irc at the wee hours of the morning.

going for interview on either thurs/fri. hope i can get through and finally start work.

nothing much to blog on. my hamster fudge is getting very fat and he looks superduper cute, like a ball of fur! i suspect that's cos i've been feeding him with a new bucket of hamster feed that has alot of sunflower seeds. i love fat hamsters.

a rush of bloody water to the head

I AM BORED. i repeat, in big bold capitalized letters,

I AM FREAKIN' BORED!!!

shit la being unemployed is seriously disgusting. i hate my life i hate having nothing to do, no aims no goals no timetables. i think i'm going mad. i want to scream but i can't, its just richoting in my head going round and round. i feel so supremely bad-tempered now. BWWARGH.

as i was saying to rux, i feel TRAPPED. like being stuck in a godforsaken rut withering away. yes yes i have books now but i was foolish enough to believe that they will relieve me of this long-term boredom when all they do is to encase me in a time warp, so that after one book i emerge from my room to find that everything is still the same. the only difference is that i have just spent a few hours in oblivion. my siblings are all still going to school, my parents are all still going to work, most of my friends are also going to work and i'm left alone at home, waking up bleary-eyed at 3pm wishing that i've not woken up at all since there's nothing to look forward to. since when did life become that *#)^(_&*+!(?

i want to do something exciting. to meet new people. to do new stuff. to jump headlong and deliriously into a whirlwind of new experiences. to fall asleep on my bed the moment my head touches the pillow, not toss and turn for 2 hrs dammit. i'm working up a huge headache and irritation.

i wonder if pple get insane due to over-sleeping? not sleep exhaustion, mind you. its the other way round. i'm behaving mad and high on msn and here i am writing a pathetic piece of prose on how miserable my existence on earth is. i think i need retail therapy. loads and loads of it so that i can be preoccupied by what to buy and how much i spend. i think i need a hour-long shower to clear my foggy head.

oh a medium-sized dragonfly was in my room 2 days ago. i am ridiculously scared of flying bugs. it was making the paperbag noise hitting against the wall when i entered and i was so scared i dashed to my toilet and closed the door. opened an inch to keep a lookout of it. no help at hand because everyone was asleep. in the end it rested by the cupboard and i bravely and deftly dropped a used exercise book on it. but i think it was already dead. oh dear.

disgruntled. and this entry is probably chock full of spelling mistakes because its been so long since i've had a whiff of academic air. so there.

Sunday, January 30, 2005 at 05:13 p.m.

i've just been to the library to borrow an obscene amount of books.

The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
The Bonesetter's Daughter by Amy Tan
American Gods by Neil Gaiman
Great Novels of D.H. Lawrence
Wish Upon A Star by Olivia Goldsmith
Fortune Cookie by Joanne Meyer
For Better, for Worse by Carole Matthews

the last three looked like chick lit, with flourescent pink, green and purple covers and swirly titles. anyhow there's a healthy mix from thriller to romance. the first four were on the Bookcrossing's Top 100 list. i'm off to read now. Boredom banished!

Playing- Good Charlotte's I Just Wanna Live

wassup its a good saturday the sun is barely shining and it looks like its about to rain. *yawn* i feel so darn lazy. anyway had a good yesterday, went town at the spur of the moment to collect my pay with jm and benson. ha! i'm not that broke! but imagine my shock when i deposited the papery squares and the receipt said that i only have XXX amt of money, when i imagined i have about a hundred more. how money flies. its quite scary the way it can deplete itself huh. but c'mon, if you work like a dog but don't spend the moolah what's the point in working in the first place?

starting to dislike the weekends because of the crowds that you get when you go town. what's more its the CNY period so everyone will be hurrying about buying new year clothes. which is quite dumb, actually. why bother trying to buy an entire year's worth of clothes at this particular time, when u can slowly pick out pieces you like and follow the fashion trend? what's more there are no Sa Les going on..

oh yes, back to yesterday, so after pay collection met zq at clarke quay mrt cos ytd morning she msged me "lets do something exciting tonight!" haha. yes so i suggested clarke quay, reading that it is under going renovation lately. half wanted to try the Reverse Bungee, it looks super shiok. anyway yeah we walked along the whole stretch of the riverside. the clarke quay area was filled with expats and tourists in posh riverside dining areas. we were famished by then so we decided to go.... macs. yeah, anti-climax, considering our original plan was to dine at a nice, mid-budget restaurant. u see, we did not finish walking. we shd have gone to boat quay instead! the restaurants kept emitting the delicious seafood smell.

anyway that stretch looked far more exciting than the mild clarke quay area. so we walked along and there's this place called chocolate bar having free entry and drinks for ladies, so we decided to go in at 10.30. it was 10pm so we just sat at the riverside there looking at the dizzy river, talking. so many smooching couples, eeeyer. oh and i think we saw 2 guys kissing at some dark corner. *extremely gross!* we turned back quickly, gave each other a look of half-disbelief and disgust before strolling quickly into the bar. haha that place plays good music man. too bad it was empty save 4 other pple drinking.

went out of the bar to sit outside, just beside the river. eew nasty nasty river. fishy foul smell keeps wafting by. haha anyway the music turned to techno, we could hear it outside. left at 11.30 to catch the last train home. i think it would have been more re4 nao4 if its a saturday night. oh well.

hmm. shall attempt to spring clean my room. hope i don't lose any money again, i shall take precautions. haha this time i shall clean out the various drawers filled with all sorts of barang barang since i was.. 7? its time to get rid of the "hoarder instinct" and clear! wish me luck!

i need a nocturnal dog if i'm getting one. it'll be quite a waste of money if the dog keeps sleeping when i'm actually awake, that is, from 2pm to 4am. oh, jm told me dogs are most active at night, citing the watchdog theory. ahh, no worries then, i should be getting me a good ol' doggie right? there's only one teeny problem. i don't think i have time for it. i mean, the hols and all are here, but having a dog is for life and i don't think i can manage uni and dog. woe me then!

anyway, been watching loads of movies recently. ahh, there was Aviator, which i'll give a 3/5 cos half the time i don't know what they are talking about and the atmosphere in the suburban sembawang sun plaza cinema at a 8.15pm show wasn't that great (wowee, 5 audiences in a huge theatre!) guess i wasn't in the mood for all that kinda stuff. leonardo was as usual, stellar in his acting though, he was really professional. its interesting how the cinematography made the green shades blueish, quite artistic. the movie's too long for the typical movie-goer laa. give us simpler and shorter stuff.

watched Shakespeare in Love and Ella Enchanted today wif rux at my house. haha the former was great. written by tom stoppard, no wonder. this movie explains alot of the mysteries surrounding the bard, which looked quite gd in show though Affleck's cuter. haha. the latter movie was typical popcorn film but ella is really pretty! would preferred shrek though for this kinda fairytale spoofs.

*UGH* i'm bored and out of gas. quick, someone give me bak gwa. either that or suggest some really good books.

fire pow-err!

Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at 08:10 p.m.

i'm starving, famished, hungry, ravenous. but that's how i am most of the time so i've learnt to ignore it. too lazy to go eat and i wanna blog so there. haha i like the new comic on top! its damn...lame. anyway, to update you on my current employment status, i might be getting a job promoting contact lens at another roadshow. went to bugis today with rux to some personnel agency who advertised on Recruit (it has become my 2nd fav paper after Life!). yep so we went up and filled up the form and went to the room.

the lady was quite nice, she asked us about our job expectations and told us there's gonna be a selection interview some time soon, where the employer is gonna ask us role-playing questions to see if we are up to the task of promoting sales. so she gave us a hypothetical question, "sell me something in this room, it can be anything, even your personal possession."

me and rux looked around the room, which is so small i've seen bigger toilets. anyway there's nothing much around and all we were clutching in our hands are our handbags so we just gave each other a look of panic while the lady waited expectantly. haha our crapping skills surfaced though, and i was thinking, aiyah just do it. so we both started and said we wanna sell the 2 big circular mirrors hanging on the wall on our right. but since i said it first the lady told me to start, telling rux to choose something else. oops!

so i plunged ahead, "i would like to sell you this mirror because it is versatile, being round, and is able to fit any home decor. you can hang it in the bedroom as a single mirror or hang more in your living room in a group so as to create a centrepiece for the room." something liddat. i think i said something more but i can't remember. anyway the woman looked slightly impressed and said "very good!" (i mean, what else can she say rite.)

rux launched into a sales pitch on the table in front of us, doing a good job too. haha anyway after that it was over and they'll tell us the interview time again. so we went out and trooped to NAFA's fashion block in the sweltering heat to collect my guzheng exam results. very hard to find, and we had to walk quite far. in the end, when we reached the office no one was there, probably gone for tau huay break or something. ARGH.

the person called later and i exasperately told him to mail it to me, nevermind if it's dented. darn now i'll have to wait again for the results. i hope i don't fail!

and ohhh.. haha me and rux were on the train to bugis when we saw this fantabulous super gorgeous absolutely dashing guy board the train. he's caucasian but no matter, he looked in his early twenties and is very tall (hair touching the top of the side panel area beside the door), leaning against the panel with a sort of casual nonchalence. *swoons* me and rux would be openly goggling at him with lust if not for some guy who blocked our view. his features are so finely chiselled and he's quite slim, like a model. i think he's the shuai-est guy i've ever seen. sigh he didn't get off at bugis with us though. SO SAD! he's damn CUTE lar, dammit.

Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at 03:26 p.m.

been a while since the last update. nothing much did happen, thurs bake cookies, fri was the concert, slacked on sat and sunday had chalet till monday. for pics on the chalet, refer to jm's blog. lazy to put 'ere. anyway pasir ris chalet is haunted. see wat i mean in those pictures.

i think i have a sleeping disorder. right now bedtime is 4am, wakie wakie at 1 to 3 pm, depending on the amount of disturbances i get from my hp. haha pple just assume that i'll be awake. which is not their fault, since i'm the pig..

hope Aviator is good and leonardo will not disappoint me. siiigh i think my life is too darn boring. trapped in stasis with no aim no goals nothing.

hippies
You are a Hippie. Wow.

What kind of Sixties Person are you?
brought to you by Quizilla

i wish i'm a hippie. or someone living in the victorian era. or the howard hugh's time. times when changes are occuring. revolution. action. anything is better than being trapped in the finely oiled cogs of a post-industrialised high-competitive economy where cars, houses, land, clothes, food costs sky high.

crapping. but having nothing to do. re-read harry potter all over again. shows how bored i am. boo hoo.

bake sale

Friday, January 21, 2005 at 02:03 a.m.

wheee! baked cookies today at rux's house. it is DAMN NICE. oh man who are you betty crocker you rock. haha oh yeah, caught Stepford Wives and Shanghai Knights on wee-cd today too. first movie is quite cool though the plot is reminscient of a teenage thriller novel. the costuming and set designs were fantabulous though. shanghai was the usual jackie chan kungfu hand-waving antics. haha.

baking's quite fun! haha its amazing how food (and very yummy ones at that) are transformed from just flour, sugar, butter and choco chips.

so we got out the good ol' butter and our mix. it contains more than 300 choco chips! wow!

the lady in pink started mixing all the floury and eggy and buttery stuff together. haha i was so scared to crack the 1 sole egg into the mix cos i know there'll be eggshells, and luckily i cracked it into a bowl first.

after professional batter-ing, mission accomplished. so all we have to do is to make them into lil balls and send them into the oven! voila! btw, those lil peanut-buttery balls are by rux. mine was just rough round dough for famous alexous cookie v.1.

as you can see, smart alexis decided that round was boring so she decided to make various shapes and sizes for batch 2. all with the primitive tools of a spoon! and then in it went to the oven and POUF! out came puffy deformed cookies. NOT the way i wanted them to be but oh well haha its quite hilarious. notice the square? and the triangle? and the heart? all come out ROUND -_-

here you go, my batch of cookies looking so irrisistable. maybe i've found my calling as a baker. who knows? haha i feel like a Stepford Wife baking all those nonsense. notice the splats of brown stuff and their semblance to particular not-so-tasty objects? haha. oops. was tempted to make one in the shape of a shit but ohh its too gross la i don't wanna eat it when it comes out hahaha.

i'll make more COOKIES next time. then i give you try ;)

iBlog

Thursday, January 20, 2005 at 12:54 a.m.

its gratifying to see so many readers on my blog. thank you, thank you all!

blogging had really revolutionalised my online activities. i remember when i started out as a little kid in p6 when my dad just got us a dial-up modem running at snailspeed. i was so amazed when i got home from school and my younger bro told me that the internet is up and running. (he was the computer genius even then). he told me he chatted with someone from the US and i thought he was having me on. my small little mind found it impossible to comprehend how people can communicate with such a simple whirring device over such huge geographical distances! so there i was excitedly logging in for the first time and presto, suddenly i found myself in a chatroom and connected to the world.

i was hooked for life.

i found myself chatting with someone from texas. i behaved quite maturely too and remember those pple being very shocked when i tell them i'm 12 and i'm from singapore. it used to be age of ICQs and IRCs. i remember feeling uber cool when i had a icq no. ahead of everyone else in my class! haha. from chatting i started to develop an interest in web design, getting myself a homepage from angelfire. i saved so much decorative junk on my computer that are still present until now. things like separators, buttons, animated gifs.. and i spent an unbelievable amount of time playing with my site, learning HTML on my own cos there's no one to teach me. one particularly memorable incident was how my dad almost hit the roof when the modem bills rocketed to $100.

but he nv did take away the internet, thank goodness. gradually i stopped my web designing and my internet activities died down, until the sec2/3 when there's neopets. then it was just neopets all the way, then it died down again in sec4. haha by then a new fad had occurred. blogging! several of my classmates had blogs and some of them write particularly well too. after some hesitation i decided to join the community and i'm so glad i did. so it has continued for 2 years..

typical online habits will be for me to log in to msn, then go to friends blogs to update the kaypoh side, then start to blogsurf by going to popular singaporean blogs, while chatting happily on msn. i love blogs like xx and mrbrown cos they update us on events, relevant or not. one thing though, i'm not sure i'm fond of the usage of links when pple write, cos i find it very distracting. you open one link and that will usually contain something interesting too and you read on and you open more links.. haha.

anyway i've figured out the rules of having a wildly successful blog. here, let me analyse them for you.

1. write really well. flair and wit is always appreciated :)
2. be very sensitive to current affairs so you can bitch about them first. either that or you come up with original theories/content/anecdotes. nobody wants to hear the same opinions echoed in your blog.
3. inject personal details into your blog
4. aim to please, not please aim. either that or go the other way and do controversial. if you wanna do it, do it big. be expressive ala xx style.
5. photos/pig-chers are always a refreshing point.
6. market your blog. come up with easy to remember blog names(eg.xiaxue) and iconic references(eg.browned)
7. spread the gospel by adding your site to lists like the Rice Bowl Journal and whatnots.
8. having a unique but readable page layout. not those with uncool music, twinkle stars, hdb flat colour coordination and lEtTeRs tHaT gO uP aNd dOwN lIke tHiS. sErIoUsLy, iTs lIkE hAvInG a lAmE pInKy dOiNg sPaSmS oN tHe shift bUtToN.
9. typos and grammar mistakes avoid, please.
10. build a community of fellow bloggers who refers to your blog once in awhile.

that's all. gonna blogsurf somemore again. and oh yeah. i couldn't borrow any lib books today cos my overdue fines were $11+ :( baking cookies tmr. i'll tell you if they are burnt or very burnt.

bass vibrations rocking my socks

Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at 01:27 a.m.

realised how whiny i sounded in my previous "i miss sch" entry. things come things go, we should just treasure that moment. there's no point walking with your head turned back, no point regretting things that should have turned out otherwise. guess i was feeling particularly nostalgic then.

more on my curious allergy. strange that it should only start now.. discovered that my neck will start to itch after i drink more than 1 shot during prom night. really strange. i woke up the next morning with an itchy neck but brushed it off as the glitter. but seems like everytime when i drink too much it happens. its a slow-reaction mild allergy i think. but..UGH! i haven't even got drunk before! sux!

on another topic, nothing beats playing in band, seriously. 7.30pm to 11.30pm at NIE just now rehearsing and time just zoomed past. i always feel kinda energetic after a good practice. very shiok to play with good players like david wong and mr. hoe, can glean some tips from them. anyway i've figured out that the key to good playing for wind instrus rely on the 3As. Air, Articulation and Accuracy. air as in stamina, cos you need to do your dynamics and stuff. articulation can be obtained through tongueing practices. do your scales for accuracy, esp in pitching and intonation. sounds easy? but hard to achieve.

i'm still unemployed. maybe going for the banqueting interview. SIGH. my job requirements ain't that high wat. as long as it pays more than 6/hr and i can take at least 2 days leave off a week i'm contented. it'll be good if its a non-standing job too. that's all!

wanna watch Aviator. shall go to the lib tmr.

NIE concert tix still available! c'mon, you know you wanna go!

oh no

Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at 03:59 p.m.

i highly suspect i'm allergic to alcohol :(

last call for tickets for NIE charity concert! msg me by 11pm today if you want 'em.

acid jazz

Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at 01:11 a.m.

notice anything? i changed the comic at the top. haha i'll try and change them when i feel like it and when it becomes stale. anyway corrinne may's Fly Away is so nice.

-5 mins passed while i look at blogs and listen to music and chat-

saw a half moon today on my way up. stood there wondrous as i stared at that yellow semi-circle suspended in the sky. it really looks like half of a circle, the line was super straight. i thought usually when the moon is half it'll be cut by the shadow of the round earth? so that it looks as if its a pie that's being eaten. but no, today's one looks like its been cut by a knife! amazing.

i went to a pub today.
it was a new experience.
it was empty, dark and cool
there was an extremely talented singer with unbelievable voice
had 1 mug of fermented barley-wheat (yay! we won tiger cup)
just chilled and hung out with gd friends

oh well i have to hand it to Apple. trust them to market the ipod shuffle by making a non-feature a feature. you've got to admit, its the ipod's icon status and design that separates it from the usual. nobody can replace that sleek white exterior and minimalist design. so "creative" of mr.sim to come up with a Zen micro that clearly copied the mini. (they are coming up with zen photo too. how original). and when you say zen, i would think the ipod's scrollwheel and controls much more "zen" than the zen. haha! its a question of heart and head. your heart wants an ipod, but your head tells you that logically you shd get a player with better battery life and fm. anyway, i'm alright with my old brick of a jukebox so who am i to get embroiled in this War of the MP3 Players?

i miss school very very much. i dislike my life now, waking up at 3pm, sleeping at 3am.. with sporadic occasions of retail trawling. there is no order, nothing happening really. i miss the trips to the toilet at ta27 level, i miss dreading/complaining about ting, i miss mr.whitby's exploding roars. i miss banana prata. i miss band room. i miss PE and slacking during that. i miss morning assemblies with lame pub-stunts. i miss laughing with the class. i miss the maths class kallang wave. i miss strawberry pocky munched during break. i miss writing pages and pages of essay in hurried frenzy. i miss doing homework. i miss sitting at my desk listening to radio trying to cram geog. i miss annotating poems. i miss my uniform that fits so well.

cheeky cherry cola.

milo dino

Sunday, January 16, 2005 at 12:38 a.m.

wanted to blog down a whole lot of things just now when i was showering and thinking and everything but right now i just can't seem to remember exactly what i wanna write about. its like waking up after a dream, remembering that you did dream, but quite forgetting what happened.

oh yeah, tried habbo? its a super lame RPG-like game w/o all that monsters. cheat little kids money, asking to buy credits at 30cents for 1. might as well play neopets. at least you'll have a chance to amass a fortune of about 3 million and own about 2000 items. oh btw, that's me. haha!

don't get me wrong, i've stopped with this neopets nonsense already. really! oei! haha.

been eating so much good food nowadays. if mr. atkins were with me he would have fainted already, all that carbo. haha there's like nydc, marche, pizza hut, pasta mania, kenny rogers.. all within like these few days! haha anyway i think i'm quite a foodie, been to quite a few places to eat. my top fav is nydc, cos there's always the yummy mudpie to top it all up with a sinful swish. the rest are all not bad, depending on what's your budget. but ooh, shared kenny rogers with zq today and we were both satiated.. at the cost of $5.95 each! that's how amazing, its even cheaper than a fastfood meal.

i think i'm developing a shoe fetish.

haha don't get me wrong. i mean i mean.. today i went shopping with zq and we started to comb all the shops from citylink all the way to suntec. we met at like 1.15 and shopped non stop till 10. that's no mean feat (pun not intended!), trying on all the shoes in all the shoe shops. too bad i aint a proud owner of a funky pair of shoes- yet. but! i finally completed my lifelong mission of finding that pair of pants. its damn nice! haha and i bought another corset-back top(shop). zq acquired a nice wallet and blue footwear. it was a fruitful day. prata with atsb gang again. tried the milo dinosaur and man was it heavenly. chunks of coagulated milo powder mingled with ice bits and sugary milo. umm.

ok pple, here's announcement. *clears throat ahem ahem*

all that jazz

Friday, January 14, 2005 at 12:11 a.m.

Chicago and Ice Age rocks my socks.

went to rux's house to watch 'em today. finally fulfilled my lifelong ambition to watch Chicago and boy was it good. i love that era. reminds me of blondie and calendar girls etc. the song, all that jazz, is still stuck in my head. haha especially enjoyed richard gere's performance, he did a sterling job. decided that movie-musicals are one of my fav. movie genres. it was loud, dramatic, passionate, flamboyant.. and i love jazz!

booze and jazz.. funny how the "z" sound makes them sound so.. bad. haha yeah anyway after that we watched the super super lame-cute-touching Ice Age. haha the acorn squirrel is seriously NUTS! and i like the graphics, very nice. its sort of like a Brother Bear kinda show but this surpasses that cos of the effects and everything, esp the sliding thru the ice scene. Whee~! and the sloth, sid, is damn pathetically cute.

lets see. my fri is occupied (shopping, NIE). my sat is occupied (shopping). my sunday is occupied (NIE and maybe j8? or tiger cup?). wow ok. shit that job is never gonna get found. haha soon it'll be feb. then feb, CNY, then maybe going HK. oh no how? haha ok nvm. taking a step at a time.

haha i'm super amused everytime i see that white ninja comic at the top of my blog. "i'm a bad person" *play play play* wuhahaha. funny not?

update

Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at 04:51 p.m.

after much deliberation, we have decided not to take the Taka job. yay!

PPS: read chap 1 of The Rainbow by D.H. Lawrence online last night just cos i was extremely bored. liked the way lawrence plays around the words. nice.

ladies night

Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at 02:06 p.m.

wheyheyhey wassup. just woke up at 1 i think. went for the "interview" ytd with rux at taka. not really an interview since that person has no one to choose from, its just us. briefed us and talked about the salary. feeling a bit cheated because my aunt told me its 6/hr but now it is 5/hr plus commission. damn and its another stand-on-feet-and-sell job. its super tiring. its exactly 1 week from the day i start work- oh no!

after that went to boonlay jurong point to meet eileen and pk to go NIE for the night band prac for the charity concert. yes, i've got tickets, please contact me to buy! 21st Jan, 7pm at VCH, tix@6bux, all proceeds will go to Red Cross Tidal Waves Asia. you buy the ticket at 6 bux and NIE will top up another 3 dollars. so its a very worthy cause, and the music is nice too, there's like phantom of opera, starwars, doraemon march, final fantasy x-travaganza.. so nice rite? go go go!

hmm currently waiting for plans to form for what to do later on. my lunch is waiting and i'm hungry. ciao!

PS: the waffle with raspberry sorbet from Gelare is heavenly! had it at half price ytd wif rux so its like 2.60 for a plate of delight. go try!
