Lots o' stuff
Well, we sold the house. The 2nd day after we put it up, we had an offer (we were at AnimeIowa in Cedar Rapids at the time, so our long-distance bill is going to be horrendous). It was low, but through a series of counteroffers, we got the house up to a price that would let us get out of here with most of our down payment. Then, while we were up in Dubuque looking at houses, we found what we think is a
suitable one for slightly more than what we paid on this. I don't think it's as nice (it's a larger house, but the lot is half the size of ours, and we'll need to work on it some), but then, we put a bit of work on this house too to make it as nice as it is.
Anyway, we have offered for it, contingent on the completion of sale on this house and an inspection. The inspection on the Dubuque house didturn up a furnace issue, and we're having a specialist come in and give us an opinion.
All this happened in the course of last weekend. Stranger still, I had emailed a resume to a company up there and they've already called me for a phone interview. They said they'll be in contact in the next couple of weeks, and that they want to schedule a face-to-face if I can get up to Dubuque sometime this month.
Bob's security clearance and drug test went through, and so he's 100% officially hired now. He starts up there September 23rd. If we can get this furnace thing
and the financing worked out, it seems like the sellers are willing to let us rent the house for a month until closing in late October.
We'll be setting a final date of work for me next Wednesday--I was going to be nice and work as long as I could for them, but after a disquieting meeting on
Friday, I'm finding myself disinclined to stay longer than necessary. Ingrates. At least they're letting go to 4 day weeks so that I can interview up in Dubuque--I'll be working Tuesday through Friday from now until the time I leave. And let me tell you, I'm READY TO GO.
On the plus side, the backstabbing has decreased. My co-workers know I'm leaving, so they won't waste energy on harrassing me. I swear, I've rarely worked among such unpleasant people before in my life. But I guess it's made me stronger, right? Yeah, right. It just made me miserable and anti-social for almost 2 years. Never Again, I tell you.
So anyway, it looks like I'm moving in mid-to-late October? Mom is coming up in early October to hassle me...er...help me pack. We were supposed to go visit them on vacation in October, but the moving thing happened instead.
Dubuque looks like it'll be a nice city. It's a typical river town, nicer than most. Very Catholic, so it's probably back to the Broom Closet for us, although there IS a Unitarian Church that Bob thought might be good to hook up with. Lots of hills, although not as many trees as I'd hoped (they got hit hard by the Dutch Elm Disease).
The ficcing continues. Sequel to "Smiles" is up to 10 pages already, and that's raw text without the descriptive tweaking I usually employ. Still contemplating that Sei-chan as uke fic, which is strange considering I don't usually write yaoi or shonen-ai...but the idea is so amusing!

Finally!
After 3 hours of experimentation, I FINALLY got the picture to show up! That's what I get for composing in FrontPage, I guess, but you have to start somewhere. Now it's time for some serious ficcing...I don't know...wondering if I should take up Alison's idea of Kusanagi for the Sei-chan as Uke challange.... Friday, August 31, 2001 05:40 p.m.
Dips toe in the water
So here we go. My very first blog entry. And my very first attempt at a webpage. Dang picture won't link...and my husband is mad at me because I tried to get him up at 3 in the morning so that I could add a subdirectory on his website for my graphic. Welcome to the wonderful world of manic-depression. Lika, so sorry to hear about your job. That really sucks. Satsuki-chan, hope you're liking my latest endeavor. Now I suppose I should try to sleep before hubby gets REALLY angry... Friday, August 31, 2001 02:58 a.m.
