NE Pats 3-0

The Past

Saturday, September 21, 2002. 10:21 p.m.
Well it's been an odd day. I slept until noon, lounged around until about 5, took a shower, lounged around some more (looking slightly more presentable) until 8:30, walked over to Luda's, walked halfway to Embassy Theaters, realized Luda didn't have her I.D., walked back up to her room, got her I.D., walked back down, couldn't find Jonathan, walked back up, tried to call Jonathan, realized he had gone to the movie without us, decided not to go out. I came back here, ordered a pizza and my computer crashes... because Luda tried to IM me to suggest seeing a midnight show in Cambridge... which I couldn't go to because the pizza was going to tap my cash... the night is still young folks, let's see what other unfortunate circumstances can arise...

Well, it was a good day for football watching. Actually, the Pats-Jets came was rather sad, the poor Jets just fell apart, serious demoralization. But the Bills-Vikings game was quite exciting, although an overtime when the score is 39 to 39 is just a bit sad in itself... poor Drew almost got hung out to dry by his defense. Oh well. At least they won. :)

Back to Brandeis tomorrow after a quick stop at Holy Cross. Yippee! I could stand another couple of days of relaxation but duty calls I guess. Happy Yom Kippur to any Jewish folks out there. Now I just have to finish downloading some music and go to bed.

Thanks for the cookies, Eliz!

Ho hum. I have a physics problem set due tomorrow and the thought of it makes me want to beat myself with a hammer.

My sympathies go out to Eliz. Being sick is not good, although it never hurts to read the Alanna books again.

I will be coming home soon! Yippee! I am looking forward to watching football on Sunday in my living room among family members. It should be a very exciting game. I am also looking forward to meeting Jeremy Skog and visiting Kali at Holy Cross on my way back to Brandeis on Monday and hopefully getting together with Cheri... yes, this promises to be a fun-filled weekend. I can hardly wait!

Well, I just watched the Pittsburgh Steelers get spanked by the Pats, who were, incidentally, 3 point underdogs going in. I could not have asked for a more satisfying kickoff to the regular season. :)

I suppose it doesn't really matter but I do wish Roman Phifer's touchdown had counted. I was so excited for him. Oh well.

I loved the expression on Bill Cowher's face after the second interception in the first quarter. He just looked so confused. :) Heh, heh.

Oh, and John Madden still looks like a potato.

What's more disturbing: the fact that I was wide awake at 2am watching Saturday Night Live reruns when I left my room to go to the bathroom, or that the first thing I saw when I stepped into the hall were two of my residents and one random guy walking into the bathroom wearing avocado face masks?

I should really stop taking afternoon naps...

I am delighted to hear that Eliz and Andrew have descended into the bottomless pit of TV obsessions... although they probably have not yet reached the point of no return, the amount of Buffy being watched is quite troubling. Of course it isn't even close to my low point labor day when I watched the ENTIRE 24 hour marathon of "24" on FX. Heh, heh. It was quite fun to be watching TV at 5am, drinking hot cocoa and being too engrossed in a fascinating TV show to feel the least bit tired...

In hindsight, it probably was one of the dumbest things I have ever done but it was quite enjoyable, especially considering I had no classes and it was a dreary, rainy day. 24 hours of 24 seems rather appropriate actually.

Well, now I'm off to study organic chemistry (no, really, I am... seriously.)

As I sit an type this, Kali is already at Holy Cross starting her college career. Congratulations!

I feel old. Maybe that's why I am going to spend most of this beautiful Saturday reading organic chemistry and neuroscience. Time's a wastin'.

I saw Monsoon Wedding last night with Tasha. It was quite enjoyable. Very fun and heart-warming, in the grand tradition of Bollywood. We saw an early show though because Tasha had other plans later so I spent the rest of the evening fighting with my computer and hanging out in the quad office with the delightful RA's on duty... and Melissa, an RA who wasn't on duty. It was a very silly evening. But fun was had by all... even Ada who was sick but heavily medicated...

Opening Sunday! Weeeeee!

It's just about noon and I'm already exhausted. I could fall asleep in a second if I allowed myself to lie down. But I am having a great time nonetheless. It's always exciting to watch freshman arriving. My residents seem very fun and interesting so far.

I'm hungry though. I could really use some chicken...

Blah. I'm tired. Very, very tired... not a good way to start an intense day of training. I have over half of my door tags completed. They look pretty good I think. Unfortunately it has been keeping me up until 2am almost every night which doesn't work for me when I have to drag my butt out of bed at eight in the morning.

I was going to add some random and witty comment here but my brain has shut down in protest. Time for breakfast.

Where does this inherent need for perfection come from? Why do certain people crave perfection and order so strongly that they are willing to jeopardize relationships in their attempts to achieve it? I think we all need to learn how to, now and again, simply roll with the punches and make the most out of our situation.

What's that famous saying?

God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I Cannot change…
Courage to change the things I can
And Wisdom to know the difference…

Something like that.

The Maine Speech Lessons

Lesson 10:
Attempting to mimic a "Maine accent" is a good way to get your ass-kicked.

Lesson 9:
An "Italian Sandwich" doesn't include anything remotely Italian.

Lesson 8:
If you hear Mainers mention "Angus" or "the independent on the motorcycle", they're referring to the governor.

Lesson 7:
If you hear a Mainer refer to "The County" he or she is referring to Aroostook County, the one that comprises about a third of the state.

Lesson 6:
Mainers are NOT Bostonians. We like our R's and are generally happy to pronounce them. R's at the end of words can be softened occasionally but are rarely dropped completely.

Lesson 5:
The town Calais is pronounced "Cal-us" not "Cal-ay". No one is sure why but it is best not to question.

Lesson 4:
There is only one kind of clam chowder in Maine.

Lesson 3:
The word "wicked" is an acceptable substitute for the word "really" (in moderation) and has no implicit connotation, positive or negative.

Lesson 2:
The town of Bangor is prounounced "Bang-gore" not "Banger".

Lesson 1:
The word "Ayuh" is an appropriate answer to any question.
