NE Pats 12-5

The Past

Sunday, January 20, 2002. 12:44 a.m.
You know you're in New England when the only major stories covered on the 11 o'clock news are the snow and the Patriots game.

Sunday, January 20, 2002. 12:21 a.m.
Patriots did it again. I don't know how. I really don't know how. But they did and they are one game away from the SuperBowl.

I feel a little bad that there is so much controversy surrounding the win. The Raiders are a really good team and obviously it would be great to see Jerry Rice in the Super Bowl again.

But. This is not the first time a questionable call has changed the outcome of a crucial game. Usually those calls are against the Patriots, typical New England luck, so it's nice that the Pats win out this time.

Well, I'm back at Brandeis and actually feeling pretty good about it.

The Eagles are beating the Bears here in the first quarter. That pleases me, though I'm not sure why. I don't have any strong feelings for either team.

My web page is coming along... sort of. I haven't figured out what I want to do with it yet. So it's just sitting there looking odd.

I don't want to talk about myself... maybe I'll make it about my writing... but I'll have to come up with a way to do it without coming off as pretentious.

Time to eat now. Hmmm...tomato soup. :)

Well, my exploration into web design continues slowly but surely. I have a page on a brandeis server now, a silly but apporpriate supplement to my Pita I think. Check it out here. I think you'll enjoy it. More will come soon and eventually my blog will be the supplement to something greater... :)

There are two reasons that I am awake and blogging at 2:30am. One is because I've been getting a lot of sleep lately and did absolutely nothing all day. I am only now within the past half an hour or so starting to get tired. The second reason is because I'm feeling very... peaceful. Or rather, I desire peace.

I watched Casablanca today then just a little while ago I watched Up Close and Personal. Now, I'll admit that I was watching the latter film simply because Robert Redford is hot. But. Both movies derive their emotion from violence, war.

Now, all I have running through my head are quotations from the movie A River Runs Through It, a movie I haven't seen in years. (However, it makes sense given the fact that I've been on a Brad Pitt kick lately).

Anyway, the point is, between the CNN and my bizarre choice of movie watching recently, I strongly desire something peaceful. And i'm also trying to rediscover the part of me that used to READ. So. Solution?

Yes. I am going to read A River Runs Through It. Good plan? Yes. Will it happen? Not tonight certainly. But I need something. I really, honestly just want to sit in the middle of the woods or fall asleep in the bottom of a canoe on Varnum pond. Yes, it's a bit romanticized but it's not as if I haven't done either one before. I have and it's been too long since then.

Here's a little test of my new webcam. Heehee!

My Little Frog Pal

It's quite large, I know. But aren't you all happy to have a picture of my frog?

Went shopping today. Woohoo. Target is a cool place. Staples freaked me out. I don't care for the new look. It seems less organized and smaller. Anyway. I spent about twenty minutes in Best Buy staring at DVD's until finally reaching the conclusion that I could find more interesting and possibly cheaper ones online, so I left after snubbing the customer service guy who desperately wanted to help me find something.

No power cables for monitors either, only parallel port cables. Bummer.

I got new notebooks though! Yippee! There is nothing greater than a fresh new spiral bound notebook. I can't wait to finish blogging so I can write.

On that note, adios!

Ah. :) After hijacking a couple components from various computers around the house, I have finally re-established my setup of choice, in my own room on my own computer. I've spent the morning enjoying my computer on a full monitor and keyboard and burning a new version of the CD I gave Eliz for Christmas. (This one is better, Eliz, I promise!)

Today is a pretty lazy day for me... nothing to do really. I should probably do laundry and I could start working on my programming plan for next semester... but I'll probably burn another CD and/or write something and/or watch TV. The latter seems most probable. God, I love vacation. :)

Oh yeah. One more thing. The Patriots ROCK THE HOUSE. AFC East Champions, second seed in the playoffs... this is so much fun.

Sunday, January 6, 2002. 11:57 p.m.
I'm back. Sorry I have been gone so long from the Realm. I've been enjoying my vacation a little too much. My laziness has developed to a point where turning on the computer is too much effort.

But now I'm starting to get bored. So here I am. I am contemplating picking up the first Harry Potter book and boldly venturing where everyone else in the entire literate community has ventured before. I will do this as both a favor to myself (I could use some mainstreaming and a way to occupy my brain other than Who's the Boss) and as a courtesy to my dear friend Natasha who has made me promise to read the damn book.

Lastly you will find two new additions to Blogfest. Karen, the newest arrival, and Jim, whom I have had the opportunity to spend a little time with and who has been determined to be worthy of a link on my blog. Hahahahhaaa! Now, goodnight.

Ooookay. So, it's been a little while since I've updated my Blog. I don't feel all that bad about it though. I've been enjoying my vacation, relaxing, preparing for Christmas, etc... Plus, I only located an ethernet cable for my computer this afternoon. I've only been using the computer to quickly check my email up until this point.

But now. NOW. Heh, heh. I got a CD burner for Christmas. It's very, very nice. And my computer is very happy now that I have moved 691MB of MP3's to a CD and dumped them from the hard drive. It's a pretty slick device actually. Dad, you picked out a nice one. :)

I also got a WebCam for Christmas, which is a little bizarre but nevertheless, quite cool. I don't know what I'll do with it yet but it is rather cute. :)

I got lots of cool stuff for Christmas. I am most pleased. Christmas is always really fun for me but having Andrew as a new addition made things especially entertaining. Attempting to dodge random and unexpected attacks on my person kept me on my toes.

But, I do have to work in the morning. So I will sign off. Now that my computer is functioning nicely again I will try to be a better Keeper of the Blog. Time for bed now. :)

Wednesday, December 19, 2001. 10:04 p.m.
Okay, so, I'm bored out of my mind. I did five loads of laundry today and I am essentially packed and now I have nothing to do. I am WIRED. I want to go to sleep but I can't. I suppose I can put clean sheets on my bed... that should eat up a good... ten minutes. Then what? Grrr... this always happens.

Oh well. Tomorrow at this time I will be vegging out in good ole Maine (probably watching taped epidoes of Pretender with my obsessed mother). I can't wait. :)

Wednesday, December 19, 2001. 10:15 a.m.
I'm currently waiting for my first two loads of laundry to finishing washing. I'd do more than two loads at once except that there are only two washing machines in my building. That is so lame. I have at least two more loads to do though.

I've started a new story. I don't want to jinx it but I'm a little excited about it. I know, I know, I have too many stories. "Raven" looms over me like a dark cloud, "Elora" is one of my best so far and I can't focus on it, not to mention at least ten others that I have started and semi-abandoned over the years.

But this new one is kinda cool. It's a cliche of course, but it's hard to find fantasy that isn't these days. My heroes consist of a seventeen year old illegitimate princess, a twenty-something year old "scholar" with a knack for knowing more than is good for him, and, of course, a supernatural being from another dimension who is way too cool to be believable but will be fun to write. I also threw in a little more mythology than I usually do. There are several nonhuman races involved, one of which being a "demon" race although there is no connection to any kind of underworld. They have their own realm on Earth. There are lots of mythic beasts, dragons and flying horses and stuff, as well as a few out of my own imagination. That's the really fun part. So often in the past my fantasy has been constrained by reality. I create worlds that demand it. This one doesn't. :)

You are reading the blog of a person who is DONE!!! The bio final is not a topic I wish to discuss except to say that I finished it and thus finished this hellish semester. Hahahaha!!!!

Now I have nothing to do except clean up, pack and GO HOME! Woohoo!

I also have a few RA things to attend to but being an RA was one of the few good things about this semester. I am thrilled beyond words. :)

The Maine Speech Lessons

Lesson 10:
Attempting to mimic a "Maine accent" is a good way to get your ass-kicked.

Lesson 9:
An "Italian Sandwich" doesn't include anything remotely Italian.

Lesson 8:
If you hear Mainers mention "Angus" or "the independent on the motorcycle", they're referring to the governor.

Lesson 7:
If you hear a Mainer refer to "The County" he or she is referring to Aroostook County, the one that comprises about a third of the state.

Lesson 6:
Mainers are NOT Bostonians. We like our R's and are generally happy to pronounce them. R's at the end of words can be softened occasionally but are rarely dropped completely.

Lesson 5:
The town Calais is pronounced "Cal-us" not "Cal-ay". No one is sure why but it is best not to question.

Lesson 4:
There is only one kind of clam chowder in Maine.

Lesson 3:
The word "wicked" is an acceptable substitute for the word "really" (in moderation) and has no implicit connotation, positive or negative.

Lesson 2:
The town of Bangor is prounounced "Bang-gore" not "Banger".

Lesson 1:
The word "Ayuh" is an appropriate answer to any question.
