Sea Breeze
Now that we're back to normalcy, I appreciate it again. I was sitting on
our bed as we woke up this morning looking at a bottle of Fabreze that we
occasionally use. I had a great longing sentimentality about the Fabreze
and I was very happy to be able to use it again. I was then looking at the
pile of paper on our coffee table and kitchen counter. This is a
self-renewing beast that devours our living space like an ivy. It has
traditionally driven me nuts and likewise, this morning it made me smile
inside. You know, how your bones lighten and your brain stops trembling and
your blood sings and your muscles pet themselves? How one smiles inside?
Any be, the islands were fantastic! Wondrous! Delicious! Terrific! The
only resonant trouble is the itchiness Amy & I both have. Being of the
Northern Ilk, I think our bodies weren't so capable of ignoring the
tropical ailments as even my dad (being from Georgia). It's not nearly as
annoying, obviously, as the islands were great, though. I forgot how to
live in the city, now I have to relearn it. Funny how quickly and easily it
comes - to revert to old ways - I still have sea legs though. They're
straightening out, but for now I still feel a little dizzy walking around -
from time to time. It's not all unlike being Mauified but it is different
(being Bahamafied). The Bahamas are a culture by chance - no real roots -
just misplacement - how miserable they must be not having a definite
ancestry! Not me! My bones are still shivering from cold dirty wet idle
mornings that my great great great great great great great great great
grandparents had in Britain. It warms me inside to know it though!
