RIP MJF
I just found out this morning that Chuck Jones died. Mel Blanc died none
too long ago, did he not? Well, that does it, cartoons have no chance now.
They make so much crap nowadays; there's only a handful of decently
produced cartoons anymore (SpongeBob, Samurai Jack, & King of the Hill on
top of that short list). I'd not even put The Simpsons on there anymore
since it's so obvious they've gone into cruise control. They're spent.
As for Chuck Jones, I actually thought he was dead already, so the
pain's relatively tolerable. I'll bet he's pretty well revered by all the
people now running that industry. I find that ironic since they're
bastardizing what he did. All the people who adore & emulate him are now
the people that undermine his life's work by producing such lame-brain
made-for-children cartoons (Bigs Bunny, etc. was adult subject matter, kids
liked it simply because it was a cartoon). Today, all of the Disney shows &
Warner Bros. type stuff is dumbed down, not to mention watered down.
I wonder if Mike Judge, Stephen Hillenburg, and Co. will be
remembered fondly. Probably not, quality isn't important anymore, only
popularity. Their shows are two of the most popular, but maybe for the
wrong reasons. I don't suppose I might be thinking about this too much.
That can't be! The point being that I'd rather watch FOX NEWS Channel than
the Saturday Morning cartoons. This should not be!
