Cinephile Juvenile aka Billy Bob, Denzel & Me

Watching more movies these days - not like in my voyeur prime, but more than in the past year at least. I'm one of those modern stories of pathetic need for fantasy, I need movies: bad movies, good movies, and all those in between. They fill what I like to believe is a God Shaped Hole the vacuity of which represents my calling, but it might just be my lack of athletic confidence as a child (until I was 24); either way, I absorb movies, and I thank Goodness I'm not one of those blank-hearted analysts who'snot only seen too many movies but who has lost the love of the bad movie, of the obscene inane, of the sickeningly melodramatic, of the cheese-laden glamor hallucinations, for I still eat that crap up with a shovel. Sunday we saw Monster's Ball and The Deer Hunter and tonight it's Training Day. Plus there's a ton of Hollywood crap coming out I'm looking forward to: Bourne Identity, Minority Report, etc. It was Raiders of the Lost Ark and Empire Strikes Back that sealed my fate (whatever that is I surely don't know) back when 20th Century Fox was still called 20th Century Fox... do you think they figured movies and/or society wouldn't last past 1999, and that they were safe in naming their company 20th Cnetury Fox? Top Gun, too, was a giant event, and of course, Aliens which I was scared to go see but loved it when I did. You see, I still have a fondness for movies like Top Gun, because I am a movie lover first and foremost and a wannabe filmmaker secondly. How many film students are out there who love Top Gun, do you think? Six? I've gotta meet those people!
