THIS IS WHY I'M WORRIED.

'The Northern Alliance, the West's new allies in Afghanistan, were accused of looting UN aid supplies and abducting civilians within hours of capturing Mazar-I-Sharif, as a massive international relief effort began with the northern city as its epicentre.'

Do you really think that having an enemy in common is enough reason to think that someone is your ally?

So. The Northern Alliance have taken Kabul.

I'm glad to see that the Taleban have gone. But I'm scared that this is going to mean that nothing will really change for the normal population of Afghanistan. For the poor people, for the women.

We have to keep watching.

It might not be connected. It might just be a horrible coincidence. But it's two months and a day since the first attacks, and it's the same time of day to within half an hour. And I just got this email alert in my inbox:

'An American Airlines jet has crashed on the Rockaway section of the Queens district of New York. Several buildings are reported to have been hit.

New York has declared a Level 1 security alert.'

I'm trying to cut down at the minute - this is important to me, but it's exhausting me too, and life is hard right now. Will be back posting with a vengeance soon!

"practice random kindness and acts of senseless beauty"

go on... go out and do this now. leave some money in the coffee machine so someone gets a free drink. wash someone else's coffee mug in work without telling them. buy a friend flowers 'just because'. stick up a poem on a noticeboard. go and ask in an old people's home if there is anyone who doesn't ever get visitors and sit with them for a while. smile at a stranger. let someone pull out of a side street in front of you. call your mum or dad or grandparents to tell them you love them. make someone a cake. draw this saying and stick it on a noticeboard where people will see.

spread beauty through your life. you can change the world like this.
