I went to see Valentine last night and it was really bad. Very much a typical slasher flick despite how David Boreanaz has been telling every interviewer that it's different and daring and blah blah blah. It's not, it's just the same as every other slash flick in existence and makes even less sense. Despite that however, David looks great in it.
Check out these screen captures from David's interview on the WB 11 Morning News.

This is just too delicious. Major Spikey goodness in this spoiler photo for the Feb. 13 episode.

With Valentine due for release this Friday, more and more interviews with David are popping up. Here's the latest from Ground Zero. He talks briefly about the direction Angel is heading in, but nothing really spoilery. Um, there are some serious typos in this article. Very sloppy.

Normally, I would never be tempted to read novelizations or television tie-ins, but my Buffy compulsion lead me to consider the possibility since one episode a week just doesn't fill the void. What finally tipped the scales and led me to my first purchase was the discovery that Christopher Golden writes Buffy novels.
I was introduced to Golden's
Shadow Saga years ago by the proprietor of Kate's Mystery Books in Cambridge, MA. Born and raised in Boston, I have a strong affinity for local novelists and I was looking for something interesting and Kate suggested Of Saints & Shadows, the first novel in the series about a private detective named Peter Octavian, who also happens to be a vampire. Remind you of anyone we know? I immediately fell in love with the character and eagerly devoured the remaining two books in the series.
Years passed and I found myself browsing the Buffy tie-ins at Barnes & Noble and noted a familiar name, Christopher Golden. I bought every book on the shelf that had his name on it. Most of Golden's Buffy novels are co-written with Nancy Holder.
The best was yet to come though with Golden's solo authorship of Spike & Dru : Pretty Maids All in a Row. I love this book. It is by far my favorite of the Buffy novels published to date and Buffy is to be found nowhere within its pages. The novel is set during WWII and the slayer of the moment is Sophia, a terrifically drawn and engaging character. No character, however, is more fascinating than Spike. While the novel is decidely non-canonical (in light of the events revealed in Fool for Love), Golden easily captures the essence of Spikey Goodness. He's the Big Bad we know and love. I can only hope that this book is the first in a series. For a complete review, check out The 11th Hour.

Here's the official sweeps spoilers from the WB. You'll need to scroll down the page for Buffy & Angel as it lists the entire WB line-up. The WB official "press release" is far less revealing than your average TV Guide synopsis so if you're a spoiler whore like myself, you probably already know a lot more.

"...I know my own heart, and I bleed for passion." - David Boreanaz
Great interview with David in E! Online. No real spoilers for Angel or Valentine.

Almost forgot, I saw a brief flash of Julie Benz in the trailer for The Brothers, some boring ass relationship movie coming soon to a theatre near you. I recognized her by her whispery & annoying voice of course.

We had repeats on Buffy & Angel tonight, so I went to see Snatch. Very funny movie. So funny in fact that I had to take two Excedrin as soon as I got home because I had been laughing so hard. Brad Pitt looked very hot, slimmed down a bit from his size in Fight Club.
Next week we're back to all new episodes of Buffy & Angel. I saw both promos and it looks like Spike is the one who spills the beans to Dawn about her origins. He's reading to her from a book, Gile's Watcher's Diary maybe? I guess we'll find out.
Angel is the only one who can stop the world from ending next week. Looks like he's spending time with the Kareoke host. Coolness.

David Boreanaz was on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart on Comedy Central last night (actually that's still today as far as I'm concerned). He was there to promote Valentine. They showed one brief clip and then David came out wearing the ugliest shirt ever, it looked black with vertical white stripes. Just say No, David! If I find a picture of it, I'll post it here so you too can enjoy the experience of having your eyes bleed.
And here's a picture of James to wash that sour taste out of your mouth. I gotta ask though...where does Spike end and James begin?
I have something of a quandary this coming weekend. On Saturday, February 3rd both James Marsters and Christian Kane's band will be performing in LA. Unfortunately they will be performing at different clubs...bastards.

Blood Screaming is another terrific site from the prolific Jessica Walker. Subtitled A Guide to the Fanged Four, it's all about our favorite vamps, with a profile of each member of the Fang Gang and a terrific timeline of their activities.

Strangely addictive

I spent some productive time on Google last night looking for some other Buffy web logs and found a couple of really good ones. Buffy Log and Scooby Scribbles are both collaborative blogs with about six participants each, so they have a fun dialogue going between the various bloggers. Buffy: Shadowy Musings is primarily the work of Shadowy Duck who also posts on Buffy Log, so you may find occasional posts duplicated on both sites, but I find his comments particularly insightful, so give it a read.

what the hell happened to this entry?
05:04 p.m., Monday, January 29, 2001
So I won't be accused of being Angel's bitch instead of Spike's, here's a nice photo of James paired with a lame ass, but mercifully short, article.
Actually, you should know this by now...they are both my bitches.

Has anyone ever heard of this magazine?

Ever try and remember how you came across your favorite website?. OK, maybe you aren't weird like me. But anyway, I found myself at one point trying to recall how I ever came to discover MBTV in the first place. Tonight while I was reading the journal Bad Hair Days it finally came to me when I clicked on Damn Hell Ass Kings. Damn Hell Ass Kings is basically a portal of all the coolest sites and I read most of them occasionally. I found both Bad Hair Days and Damn Hell Ass Kings from reading Stee's journal, Plaintive Wail, pretty much the only journal I read on a regular basis. It's cool, it's funny, it's smart. Read it.

I want her!
Now I know what to get our favorite vampire slayer for her birthday.
Found this cool stuff over here.

Just had dinner with a friend of mine at Jerry's Deli. Yes, not only are they on the Internet, but they are also publicly traded, although they are about to be delisted. Heh.
Anyway, back to dinner. Weird waiter named Paul. I ordered a Philidelphia cheese steak, substituted mushrooms for onions, onion rings for french fries and requested a side of ranch dressing and a side of au jus. But for some reason, Paul heard a request for a side of goat cheese. I thought he was pulling my leg for a moment, but apparently not. Anyway, to make a long story short, he screwed up my order.
Between leaving the deli and getting home, I've started my period. Much too early, by the way. It's only been 23 days since the last one and the one previous to that was only 24 days. Does this mean my next one starts in 22 days? This sucks.
I bought some Excedrin PM in order to get to sleep earlier than usual, but now that I have my period I decided to take the regular Excedrin and hope by the time I get around to taking the Excedrin PM that the caffeine and the sleep aid won't just cancel each other out. Of course, I realize that's fairly hopeless.

David, what were you thinking?
Quote from the MBTV boards:
"Darva Conger= whole new definition of the term "media whore." She "won" the FOX TV sleaze extravaganza Who Wants To Marry A Millionaire then complained about how she was being attacked by the media and being misrepresented as a star-hungry opportunist. Then she posed for Playboy. She's pretty much a national joke and it warms my heart that her "fame" hasn't spread across the ocean"

I've been awake for about an hour now. This is getting ridiculous. I'm going to be starting work again sometime this week so I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get some sleeping pills tonight and try and start rolling back the hour I get to bed. Ugh.
10:40 p.m., Saturday, January 27, 2001
I love Buffy as much as anyone, but sometimes killing Buffy is a good thing.
09:54 p.m., Saturday, January 27, 2001
Wow, somebody has a serious imagination. Found these spoilers at Buffy Cross & Stake. I'm sure they're fake, we're talking multiple character death in a single episode. Sometimes I think fake spoilers are a new kind of fanfic.

Egads, I've just woken up.
I cancelled all of my YahooGroups last night except for Buffy NewsWire and yet I'm still getting mail from all of them. I hate to sound repetitive, but have I mentioned that I hate Yahoo?
By the way, if you are a Buffy fanatic I highly recommend Buffy NewsWire, it's all the Buffy news that's fit to print. JenGod, the moderator, has even put together a calendar for all of David Boreanaz's promotion events for his new movie, Valentine.

No, I haven't gone to bed yet. Shut up!
James Marsters, Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz have all been nominated for the TV Guide Awards in their respective categories. Be sure to vote.

"One more cigarette and I'm going to bed." I am such a liar.
05:17 a.m., Saturday, January 27, 2001
I should be asleep. It's ridiculous that I'm still awake and I'm always trying to tell myself I'm an insomniac, but really that's not true. Oh sure, it does take me an age to fall asleep once I finally decide to go to bed, but this doesn't change the fact that I'm just a child refusing to go to bed because I have better things to do.
Like read fanfic for instance. Slash fanfic to be precise. Days of Our Unlives to get specific. Days of Our Unlives is the 32 chapter long silly slash fic featuring our favorite wacky vampires, Angel and Spike. Brought to you by the warped minds of Jessica and Donna, this is the funniest, sexiest damn thing I've ever read. I've even printed out most of it for safekeeping, it's so good. Read it in private, or else other's will look at you strangely because of the mad giggling you'll be doing.
I'll confess now that I'm an Angel/Spike 'shipper and I'm a Buffy/Spike 'shipper, but I am not no way, no how a Buffy/Angel shipper. I generally like my fanfic dark and disturbing, and The Last Summer by Annie Sewell-Jennings fits the bill nicely. It's a disturbing post-apocalyptic tale featuring Buffy & Spike and it is the most amazing piece of Buffy/Spike fiction I've read to date. Let those B/A shippers cry over Becoming, pt 2 and I Will Remember You, we now have some angst of our own to weep over.
One more cigarette and I'm going to bed. I mean it this time!

I hate Yahoo! They took over eGroups and fucked everything up. I had Outlook set up so all my eGroups letters went into their proper folders and then Yahoo! takes over and suddenly my inbox is suffering under a deluge of stuff I really don't even read any more. But hey, at least everything was neat and tidy and now it's not. And so I log onto Yahoo Groups (grrr) and set everything for web only, but it doesn't work.
Brace yourself, this is painful. So there I am, innocently reading my email when I come across an email from one of my eGroups lists about some new photos of Jason Isaacs in Sweet November. I click the links and find some cool pics which I decide to save to my drive, but what do I do instead...I accidently click "Set as Wallpaper" and in an eye blink my scrummy Spike wallpaper is replaced by a scanned newspaper photo of Jason Isaacs. Now I love Jason, I have a whole website devoted to him, but Spike is what I want to be looking at this particular point in time. Sigh. I hate Yahoo!

Damn it! I forgot that Crossfire Trail started at 8 p.m. tonight because once again I got tangled on the web. I can't be too upset since it is on again tomorrow. This is TNT after all. But I'll probably be taping it as Christian Kane's band Kane will be playing at The Viper Room on Sunset tomorrow night. Think twice before clicking on that Viper Room link though, it takes ages to load.
Wondering who the hell Christian Kane is? You can find out all about him here at Zoe's beautifully maintained and comprehensive site. Want the short version? He plays Lindsey McDonald, a morally ambiguous lawyer on Angel. He's also yummy and has a lovely voice and that's really all you need to know.

I've been out of work the past two weeks waiting for my next contracting opportunity to present itself and as I usually just sit at home on my ass when I'm not working, I decided to take advantage of the time poorly spent by signing up for Blockbuster Video's 30 DVDS in 30 Days deal. 20 bucks for 30 rentals, can't beat that with a stick. So I've been renting a lot of movies that I hadn't ever planned on seeing because I figured "what the hell".
Last night I rented The Green Mile and found myself wondering why I'd never planned on seeing this movie. I'm such a liar, I wasn't wondering at all. I hate Tom Hanks. It's not that I think he's a bad actor because he's not, but the level of kudos he gets from his peers is ridiculous. You would think he was the world's best actor if you went by all the awards the bastard's won. I mean seriously, he won a Golden Globe for Castaway. What kind of crack are those Hollywood Foreign Press guys smoking anyway? Can I get some? I don't really buy into the notion of "world's best actor" anyway, but if I did I'd be putting a motion to the floor that Russell Crowe more closely resembles that remark than Hanks.
So why am I ranting? Because I loved The Green Mile of course. A terrific movie, just as good as The Shawshank Redemption and possibly better. Same director both movies, same author of the original text for both movies. What's not to like? Oh yeah, I answered that question already. I give props where they are due however, and Hanks did a great job in this movie. Hell, I'm probably going to end up buying it.

So far I've tried doing my own html on my own ISP-hosted site, using mydeardiary.com, diaryland, diary-x, and blogger. I haven't been really happy with any of them because...well, because I'm lazy!
Actually mydeardiary.com was just embarrassing and there's not a whole lot you can do with it. Writing my own code? Out of the question. I used Netscape Composer for my fan-wank website (see link) and I don't have a problem with customizing my coding, but even with Composer, putting up the website sucked a lot of time out of my life.
Diary-x is actually pretty cool, but at the time I started it I was out of work and severely depressed. Reading it was like watching a train wreck, so I stopped.
The blogger idea, however, really appealed to me, but at the time I was using ATT Worldnet as my ISP and they have major firewalling so I could never update the blog. It just didn't work.
So here I am now. Let's give this a try. I love the blogging idea. Short and simple.
Expect me to write a great deal about Buffy and Angel. What can I say, I'm obsessed.
