one week's worth
Thursday June 8, 2006
Dinner at Casuarina Prata with jt sq sh sd ml yk. Yayy. Stayed over with yuying at jess’ house after that and miss Jessica was so high! We kept laughing over silly things. Haha. Jason came over and we played mahjong till the sun began to rise.
Friday June 9, 2006
Dinner with Bernard and the juniors nelson marcus guan how at café cartel. And chris joined us halfway! Haven’t seen that guy for so long ever since he went to study in US. Thanks nelson for the cherry chocolates! Finally got to meet up with my monkey juniors. And I decided although it’s really tempting that the cakes there are half priced after 9pm, it’s not worth a visit because the cakes were kinda bad, especially the tiramisu.
Saturday June 10, 2006
Played three hours of badminton with ml sd jt sq jw! It was long since I last played and I finally got to make use of my new pretty white grip. :D After that was meilin’s and my favourite yong tau foo at ang mo kio central market! Watched England vs Paraguay with yk sq and ml at my house coffeeshop! I never knew they play the matches downstairs la. Too bad the atmosphere ain’t there and I think I’ll just continue to support England haha. Though watching them play now is definitely not half as thrilled as the last World Cup. We played mahjong at my house after the match and had loads of fun laughing! They are really a funny bunch. Played the hwachong songs that wanyuan sent me on my laptop and we all started singing! It felt really warm and fuzzy mouthing the same lyrics and feeling the bittersweet nostalgia and missing our alma mater altogether. Not many love to sing the songs and do the mass dance like meilin and i! Though I think I cannot remember half the steps already.
Sunday June 11, 2006
Sunday afternoon was spent at home watching the Aviva Open 2006 Finals and going gaga over peter gade! JILLIAN TOH YILING I wish you were here to share the joy with me as gade displayed his impressive skills and clinched the men’s title! He was still so good as ever. The commenter was saying the camera couldn’t capture this particular shot because he was simply too fast! Yeah I know, some of the good players couldn’t make it this season but still.. Hahaha. Went running with sis at night. Then chatted with meilin on the phone from 11pm all the way till 5am! Whoooaaa. That is really my longest record ever!!
Monday June 12, 2006
Went to the tour agency to confirm our flights. I’m now a few hundred bucks poorer! Had dinner with yikit and siongqun at AMK ave 5 Hongkong Street coffeeshop. We had delicious fish bee hoon and 4 dim sum items and went macs at compass point to grab more bites! Then chatted on the phone again from 10 plus till 1am.
Tuesday June 13, 2006
Out shopping with meilin in town! Bought a cute zara skirt and the English garden birks. Had dinner at her house and I really love her mum’s and grandma’s cooking. The dumplings were really good! Then watched Cars with yh ml sd jt yk sh jw sq (a whole lot of people). I thought it was quite a good film! It was funny and engaging and tell us how life is all about the journey and just not the destination. Tow Mater was everybody’s favourite and I thought the Italian wife was super funny when she changed the wheels so fast and gave the super smug look! Hahaha. It’s amazing how they can draw the cars with such vivid expressions.
Wednesday June 14, 2006
Stayed over at meilin’s house and we surfed around online and be nosey pokers till it was time to eat our favourite economic bee hoon at her house coffeeshop! Yayyy it’s been way too long since I last ate it. Woke up and went to school to play badminton with alvin yinghong huimin Jackson dom. I played freaking four hours of badminton without much rest and the matches were really exciting with long rallies. So imagine how exhausted I was after that. I swear my legs almost broke! Had dinner with yk and sd at harbourfront after that. The avocado milkshake at seah im food centre was superb! :)
Thursday June 15, 2006
Out shopping with char in town! We shopped from 3pm all the way till 10pm! Oh gosh. Char had a lot of good purchases! :) We were a really embarrassing pair, knocking this over, that over and had a lot of fun trying on clothes especially dresses. Char was like rushing to grab the clothes la and it really tickled me when she said try clothes is free lor! Hmmm, though I must agree it really made much sense. We went from trying on everything nice under the sun to trying on items only when we think we will buy them as our energy level went down to the minimum. Hahaha.
After all the rich and tasty food you taste out there, at the end of the day, you realize you just want to come home to a simple home-cooked meal.
I know i'm not the kind who can stay home everyday, because i'm always so lured by the world out there. But now i think it's time to strike a balance.
Don't sway me.
It's a small world after all. Supposed to meet yikit siongqun jiting sanduo seowhong to watch Benchwarmers. Then i saw jingyi and bean at mos burger! I haven't seen bean for such a long long time. She's my oldest friend ever. Our friendship is already on the 13th year running! Then i saw roy too, and he knows the bunch that i'm meeting coz of hwachong table tennis. It's like all my pri sch, sec sch, jc and uni friends gathering under one mos burger roof. Oh, and the movie isnt exactly very worth mentioning, but it was quite fun watching the baseball game being played. At least coz of TH softball, i know what's potflies (dunno how to spell) and 3 strikes and 4 balls!
Whee! Today's one of the best shopping trips ever!! Thanks to zes and meilin! We ate gelare waffles (it's a tuesday thing) and started shopping around town. Zes, ame, cheong hua and kwan aik gave me a really pretty Guess bag for birthday!! Thanks people! :D The sisters and bro-in-law gave me a cool green billabong jacket too! :) Zes and meilin shared something from kinokuniya for me too, and i was wondering what book on earth can they give me that i really like and.. TADA!
Two GERMAN children's books!! What lovely gifts!! Hahaha. Was really really happy and surprised!! Bedtime stories in german, anyone?
Anyway, we went around trying a lot of stuff and in the end, we all bought a pair of shoes! And on our way back, we discovered really nice sunglasses and bought a pair each too!! Meilin and i got our favourite aviators in different colours, while zes got this really cool gold and brown one. I haven't had such fun shopping like this for a long time, thanks to these two silly girls, and we are beaming with our purchases! Yay! Ooh, gonna give my room an extreme makeover tomorrow.
And ooh, pardon any bimbotic touch to this entry. :)
Oh yes, did I mention I finally finally found the sweet crispy thingy with the popiah skin at suntec? It’s a goodie that my mum used to buy for us outside the OG at People’s Park when I was young. I never forget the old uncle who sat just outside the building and how he used to slowly wrap the biscuit with his wrinkled old hands. And me? I used to stand and watch, amazed and excited as a little girl. I remember the crunchy biscuit with sweet syrup that went so well with the soft popiah skin. I took a first bite yesterday after many years, and well, it didn’t taste exactly half as good as I recalled, albeit the nostalgic flavor to it. And then I realize some things, when gone, are gone forever. Try as you may to relive the same old taste, it will never be quite the same again. Perhaps they should be kept safe and intact in your mind instead. They will preserve the familiar sweet taste.
Or maybe because i've grown up, discovered a million other things that taste as good and that goodie doesnt make world of a difference anymore, like what it did to my small little childhood world.
Saturday dinner was spent at all time favourite Casuarina prata! The night was great – two crispy kosongs and one yummy mushroom cheese, drove around the roads of TPE, enjoyed the peaceful air at the roof garden and chatted my heart out – all with a good friend’s company.
Sunday officially marked the end of our job! Meilin, yinghong and I celebrate at suntec’s marche, ate a great deal in less than an hour and started walking around.
Fourteen consecutive days of work was madness! But at least I read some papers (my dad would be glad to hear this) and now my biological clock has effectively been switched back from the late hall nights.
Played tennis with jiting and meilin today, and ran 2.4km with sanduo! The latter finally broke the 9 record! And I finally got to exercise after long days of work just sitting and bumming around. Not that I particularly enjoy running, but it is something that makes me feel good like I’m really working out my lazy bones and besides, I must have stamina to play other sports. Cheers to more working out sessions ahead. :)
The first few moments of my twentieth birthday..
Sin's flying off to paris and rome, chel is going to japan, and boon's gonna trek in AFRICA! HOW COOL!! Have fun and take care, my dearest friends!
Met meilin sanduo jiting siongqun and yikit after work today. Made new specs at jiting's uncle's shop!! After much contemplation, meilin and i chose the same pair! How cool and exciting. :) Though i dont look half as fantastic as her. Ate the supposedly nice fishball noodles at the hawker centre. I think my appetite is quite huge these days, plus the fourteen days of bumming around and slacking, it's seriously time to work my lazy bones after work ends this sunday!
I'm relieved, light and happy now. :)
We are but victims trapped in this vicious emo cycle. Once the dark clouds are here to stay, albeit temporary, we choose to focus on them and lament and often fail to see the sunlight that filter through on the other side. And when you finally step back and take a good look at this world, you realize there is nothing to fret about after all. Blow the dark clouds away and embrace the sunshine!
I suddenly got reminded of Sweet November. The show really makes me realize something. Keep the beautiful memories intact, pack up and leave bravely, rather than leave things to languish and in the end, taste nothing but remnants of bitterness once so sweet.
Makes me feel like watching a nice film now! One that moves me and reaches out to my heart. Recommendations, anyone?
Today was by far one of the best days at work. I had a nice short chat with this customer called Reynold Goodenough! What a weird and funny name! Unlike some especially in the starhub days who thought my name was funny (shipping!), he said my name was nice and wished me all the best in NUS! And there was this other senior colleague whom i had a long chat with, from his police times to school to travelling. And food of course, it's always one of my favourite break-ice topics. Hahaha. There was another car mechanic who wants to send his daughter to st nicks and lives at the block next to my old block! And another who was very friendly and told me about his family and wife. The cleaning auntie always goes good morning girl, makan already? The people here are basically really nice, and with the porn guy back at alexandra branch, i spent my day at work today chatting with people and reading the straits times.
Yes yes, this is how slack my job is. I attended to less than 20 customers today and each customer lasted less than 5 minutes.
If you can choose between knowing what's happening everywhere across the globe, the latest trends and basically updated about everything with a strong consciousness of time, or living in a world of your own, oblivious to the surroundings and the ticking of the clock, what is your take?
Thanks lilian for the birthday card by post!!! What she said really really touched me and made my heart ache. Just remember this place is but a subset of my life. It doesnt show that no matter what, your name is always one of the first few to appear in my mind. :)
I was really about to come here and grumble about work. Had been working at the ubi branch and helping customers register for the service clinic when they come in. I spent HOURS sitting at the counter, stoning, sleeping and smsing. WOW, I didn’t mean the alliteration by the way. So today I brought and read the straits times while waiting for a pathetic handful of customers to come in. Was really scared though, since I was reading the papers openly. A bit too bold huh. But the manager was too nice and the place too slack to care. I get paid to bum around. Can’t believe it.
Anyways, the main point is, this customer came and told me his car key was about to break and asked if Hyundai could replace a new one for him. So I walked over to this senior advisor hard at work with his computer and wanted to ask him if the replacement could be done. And I looked up to find myself staring at the screen, where a video was playing. It was showing this girl dancing in ONLY HER UNDERGARMENTS! Think she was stripping!! Oh my gosh! He was watching PORN!! LIKE WHAT!?!?! And I stood there beside him, didn’t know what to do. Tried my very very best to mask any disgust or shock or amusement and pretended to concentrate and stare hard at the car keys. On the other hand, the senior was caught by surprise that I was standing right beside him, facing the compueter and tried very FRANTICALLY to close the screen but somehow the video kept playing for a while! HAHAHA!!!! It was sick, but I was really about to burst out in laughter at his frenzy!! Hahahaha!! When I went back to my desk, I struggled really hard to keep a straight face and smsed meilin about it. I wanted so much to cry out in laughter!! I saw him telling the rest of the advisors about it and some of them laughed. Arghs, how paiseh for me. But come to think of it, HOW PAISEH FOR HIM. Gosh, I can never look at him with the same eye again. AND I STILL FEEL LIKE LAUGHING.
Had to spent my birthday working at Ubi! Birthday dinner was supposedly spent with sinhui at Pizza Walker. When she brought me there, I spotted bernard with his striking brazilian jacket at a table far away. And miss charlene quek who tried to bury her head in the menu in an extremely hilarious and might-as-well-don’t-hide way. Hahaha! Alan and seowhong were at the table as well. Those guys! They told me they’ll celebrate with me another day! Received a really pretty bikini set and the pizzas there tasted quite good. We then headed down to serangoon gardens for ktv at this seemingly shady place. It’s too expensive in town on a Sunday night you see. Basically a birthday night out with fun and laughter. :)
Had birthday celebration on Monday night after work with chel, pris and boon. We ate at Pregos! After which we decided to give the Loof a miss though we planned to go there weeks ago and settled at Menotti. It was half price after 10 pm! The Soffiato was heavenly! It’s this very soft and warm chocolate cake with rich delightful chocolate sauce inside, complete with lovely ice-cream. We were arguing over what pastry to order next and in the midst of our debate, boon ordered something without us knowing. We scolded her! We tried the item and it tasted quite horrible. Hahaha, in case anybody goes there, it’s this funny almond lemon thing with dry flaky crust. We also had this other thing that tasted heavenly too. I can’t remember the name. It has ricotta cheese and chocolate and fruits.
I finally got to go straight home today. Been going out after work everyday till late at night! Had birthday dinner with my family and we ate crabs! And my favourite hot plate bean curd. My sis bought this small cute heart-shaped (that tasted as yummy as it looked) cake. It’s this tiny!
And everybody sang a birthday song for me at home. My mum, my dad, my sisters and bro-in-law. Makes me feel like a small little girl all over again. Haha.
Thanks to huishan sher min sin zes pot toh max lilian aprilyn char Jeremy boon wanyuan virn alvin charb alan jason lynn abhijit jess yongteng kai nel marc peg lina gavin pris ber ivy(from KL!) eline cheonghua chel yiwen and emily for the wishes! And alvin and pot toh who called when my batt was flat. And zes and lindaaa for calling and wishing. :D
So I finally hit the big two. The twenties is supposedly when life zooms past with a flurry of events and whirlwind of emotions and enlightenment. Well, I guess, as I step out of the comfort zone in school into the real working world, get married (I hope) and find a whole new meaning in life. Kudos to those who have been in this great journey with me so far! In retrospect, life has been wonderful and blessed with amazing family and friends for the past two decades. Even if things do get down, they were part of the learning experience that made me a better and stronger person. I’m just grateful for everybody around me right now, whom I shan’t name, but if I tell you how thankful I am, I really do. :) Cheers to the years ahead.
Pardon me for any incoherence because Whee! I just had THE BEST birthday surprise of my life!!
I thought today was a simple birthday dinner with meilin at fish & co. We went gaga over our favourite seafood platter and had a lot of laughter while acting. Hahaha. We were damn childish. Even though there were only two of us for the celebration, dinner was really great and I felt really happy to have such a great friend for life right beside me. Grinned at her very happily and told her I was very happy and she laughed at me. Hahaha. Then suddenly siong qun, jiting and yi kit popped out of nowhere! So it happened that meilin invited them over for dinner as well. And I was thinking too bad sanduo had to go for his friend’s birthday party. After that, yi kit left to meet his colleague and the three of us started roaming around cathay.
Jiting started asking meilin about hall..
And then war erupted. Meilin was really angry with sq because she wanted to tell me herself that she may want to share room with yinghong instead. I thought she was very affected because she was afraid that i would feel very upset. And I didn’t know how to react. We decided to go home and while Sq and jt decided to leave us alone and go toilet, we saw yikit coming out of the toilet! He kept laughing and not talk when we asked him how come he’s there and I thought he didn’t want to show us how his colleague looks like. Sneaky fella. Never mind about him. Meilin looked really pissed off and jt was trying hard to pacify her while siong qun drove me home. When we drove past them, meilin was still resisting jt’s pleas to send her home (literally struggling on the streets) and I thought oh dear siong qun is so dead. Started to question sq and asked him to call meilin once he gets home. I suddenly felt really sian on the way home and sq became really scary. He kept insisting that he wanted to go punggol beach (I suggested that before meilin got pissed) and I was going crazy trying to tell him I want to go home, charge my phone and give a friend a call. We argued for really longgg. In the end, he persisted and I had no choice.
At punggol beach, sq asked me to go open his boot. To my surprise, the boot was delightfully decorated with colourful helium balloons! They were erm supposed to rise and float into the sky but they stayed in the boot. Haha. A huge box with a cute cushion lock was placed in the middle of the boot.
He asked me to open it and I was hesitating because the box had small holes and I thought he hid some animals inside. Erps.
I opened the box to find TONNES of Allswell Sour Plum Juice inside!!
Hahaha. I love to drink plum juice and they bought ALL the sour plum juice from punggol minimarts and Carrefour!! ALL!! The shopkeepers must have thought they’re mad. There was also the pretty le coq bag beneath!
I immediately thought of sanduo, because I told him it was nice when we went Queensway the other day. So that was why he asked me to try the bag! And I was still thinking ahhh so sad that meilin was upset and jiting sent her home so siongqun had to surprise me alone. Then I got a huge fright from behind! Jiting hit my neck with a birthday cake knife! It’s like CS all over again. Hahaha idiot. Then meilin appeared and I was like awww she still came to surprise me after all despite being upset with siong qun. THEN.. yi kit, seow hong, sanduo and jun wen sprouted out with a birthday cake and twenty candles!! Wahhhhh I couldn’t quite describe in words how touched I was and was on the brink of tearing already! Thank goodness i held back my tears. So paiseh.
It turned out that right from the start when siongqun blurted out that meilin might share room with yinghong was a HOAX! Couldn’t believe it!!! And Yi kit was being so sneaky and giggly because he didn’t expect to see me when he came out of the toilet! HAHAHA lousy actor. So he didn’t meet any colleague after all. And guess why san duo wasn’t around?? He was video-recording the WHOLE procedure from the time we went fish & co till siong qun drove me home!! WHOA! And I can’t believe I didn’t suspect A SINGLE THING AT ALL. Kudos to meilin and jiting for being such great actors. I can never forget how they struggled on the streets of orchard when meilin was “upset”. Wahaha. Or siong qun because I really drove him nuts when I insisted on going home. Hahaha.
I feel really happy and touched!! Thanks everybody for being there and it’s seriously the best birthday surprise ever!! Morever, it’s at the most unpopular spot PUNGGOL! Sorry you guys stayed out so late! Anyhow, I’m really really happy! :D It doesn’t feel so bad being 20 after all! Friends are indeed forever!! With <3 <3 <3!!
Pics courtesy of char. I like the green zara dress I was trying!
Boxing gloves! We tried punching our face lightly with it and it indeed felt like a heavy blow.
