Heya Heya Heya!
Ok, so I'm insufferably genki. One of our fanfic reviewers informed us that SNK (the main part) was at 392 pages... are we frightened yet?
Well, let's see what's up! FOr a change, I'm actually scheduled to write FEWER sections then Ger (usually I get scheduled for more, but he STILL ends up doing all the work). I have... Sally, Duo, Quatre, and Dorothy. Some really neat stuff is going down for this act.
Um, my side for this week is called "Family", and it's Jaffa. Remember? The matriarch of the Winner bunch? This is more of a reflective piece, but it was inspired by the Catalonia Legacy Ger-bear wrote. I have a fondness for the Winner sisters.
By the way, our inbox is getting lonely.... *puppy eyes*
Ouch! Ger, you don't need to HIT meeeeeeeeeee.......

Hisashiburi!
QS and I are just completing the last part of Act 7 and it should be posted tomorrow. ^_^ Unfortunately, our main server midnightrevolution.org is in the process of changing server hosts, so the page might still be down tomorrow when we post. If so, I will still be posting 7.4 to the SnK MIRROR site at http://www.gwaddiction.com/gundam. So never fear, we ARE still alive and you can still get your dose of SnK angsty goodness.
The mr.org server should be back up and running by next week at the VERY latest.

Sometimes I just get so depressed whenever I view the state of fandom. Ger and I are currently working with Laurelgand to revive the FY fandom, but... Gundam fandom has just exploded, thanks to some bigots who have brought religion into it. I'm not going to add my opinions to the general fray, but I wanted to voice then, and the SNK blog seems like the best place to do it.
As most people are well aware, Ger and I promote SNK as being one of the prime alternatives for people who are tired of yaoi fanfic. Yaoi fanfic is the staple of GW, though, and it's a reality some people have problems accepting. Occassionally the religious zealots pop out and tell everyone they're going to hell....
Do Ger and I condemn yaoi? Most certainly not. To do so would condemn many people. We do not PROMOTE it on this site, but that is because we feel there's plenty of places that do so, and SNK is oriented at getting back to a more "canon" tone, rather then a fanfic one. Hell, we even recommended a shonen ai piece for our pick of December! (Which reminds me I need to chose January's piece- I'm in the mood for something light after all this seriousness....)
We're lucky. Most of our readers are intelligent, thoughtful people who are willing to accept the alternatives we offer, as long as we can "sell" them. Ruth wants us to sell her on Li's world, and we're going to. Others wanted to be sold on "Wing", and I think we did a decent job. Atsuki, Darkflight, the Cliffside gang... all of these were alternative which we've been working hard for. Some of them are more successful then others (a few people HATE our proposed future for Heero), but all and all, OUR readers have been remarkably wonderful, and responsive.
I thank you for that.
We didn't receive the pro-yaoi backlash we were expecting- there were a few notes, but nothing shattering. We didn't receive the Relena hate mail (well, just a little, but all GW authors who try to portray her in a more mature light get that). We've received mail from people arguing portrayal (Quat not being able to do his laundry!), setting (A007 has been called hokey), development (Wing as Heero). People protesting plot (a three paragraph long NO! to Noin's death).... all in all, it's been a wonderful ride. And I hope it stays that way- there's place in fandom for all types of writing- SNK is an ALTERNATIVE piece, but by no means the only one! Why else would we be selecting feature pieces?
Ok, got that off my chest.
Anyway, for Xmas, I finally published that Une side I've been promising forever. Originally it was titled "Ambition", but I changed it around when I started to focus more on the Christmas themes. "Stille Nacht" is a beautiful song, and I thought the combination of the music, the season, and Une's German herritage made it wonderfully appropriate.
I'm actually rather pleased with how it turned out. I originally didn't like it (thought it was rushed) but as I read over it again, I'm impressed. My writing has matured a lot in the past year. I like how I'm able to use my own style (Trio, my other "god" side, felt like I was borrowing Ger's) to get my point across. It's easy with Une- I'm very much like her.
It's always been obvious, to me at least, that Une must hate Xmas by the time of WALTZ, but no one has ever brought it up. I wanted to focus of that, and I also wanted to show exactly how integral Treize is to the woman she was and is. Everything she does is influenced by him, but I believe she's made of strong stuff- she would have made it without him. It just would have taken longer.
We've been ignoring much of what is "canon" backgrounds for the characters. Une actually has a title, as does Noin. Dorothy's father was the former commander of Oz, before Treize. Wufei is a newtype. But why should we let that get in the way of a good story? Most people are unaware of some of that, so why bother? The story is what matters.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone! ^^;;; It was close, but we managed to get those sides up by Christmas. ^_^ Thanks to everyone who's responded to them...I daresay we've gotten more FB on those two sides than any of our other ones before.
I wrote Navidad and QS wrote Stille Nacht. She's the Une fan...I'll leave it up to her to explain hers. I personally wrote Navidad because of an ongoing fascination with Alicia Catalonia from that little passage in Etille's section waaaaay back in Act 6. I thought it would be nice to kind of trace Dorothy's lineage back, and it was very interesting writing the setting in Spain and France.
Alicia is another one of those rebel soldiers (we have a lot of those...Treize, Hilde, Zarifa, Etille...I promised QS we'd stop after her XD) that went against her father's wishes and joined the Academy. She and her brother Leon are direct opposites...he likes the political life, she doesn't. In her mind, politics and the military are entirely seperate entities, but as we see in SnK, in reality they are very intertwined. Alicia was one of those people who had the potential to excel but was burdened down by too many things (not all of which were her fault).
Etille is...Etille. Not much surprise there. He's much younger in this side than in the main SnK story, but no less bitter. As we see in the main story, he still can't let go of Alicia's ghost, even twenty-some odd years after her death, after throwing away everything that reminds him of her.
I really like Leon Catalonia (Alicia's brother). Even though he only existed for this one side, he's a very real character to me. It makes me wonder what Dorothy would have grown up to be like had he been alive. Leon Catalonia the elder, Duke Dermail, is who he was in the canon series, and he wasn't the best father to Leon and Alicia. But I wanted to show how he became that way, and having him lose both of his children in such a short time span was a good catalyst for the making of that.
Emily was an interesting one to write, and not in a good way. She's not a bad woman, just has her priorities in the wrong place. Her claims that she was the love of Leon's life is given the lie by the fact that he never gave her Alicia's scarf. Ironically, it was given to Dorothy, and I do mention in Emily's section that Leon sees Alicia in his daughter. Perhaps the scarf passing to her is Leon giving back to his sister what rightfully belonged to her.
Enough on the philosophy. We won't be updating until the 11th of January, so it's another week or so of break. I hope everyone has a safe holiday.

So we haven't blogged in forever. Not that there's nothing to blog about, because QS and I have been hashing out a plot to astound and amaze your very eyes, once we get around to it. ^_^
I at least wanted to get Act 7 done before Christmas but that's not going to happen. This week we're posting sidestories, and then next week we're taking a break. A well needed one, I may say. Though rest assured we'll be back with more SnK after that. I'm on winter break until January 14, so we will be able to finish Act 7 before then.
A lot of you have written in to us about the absence of Trowa from the entire Relics Arc and, so far, this one (except his Wildflowers side). I promise you We're not trying to ignore Trowa. What most of the emails point out (and rightly so) is that Trowa seems to be the most ignored character in the whole series, both in the TV series and in fanfiction. The fanfiction part stems from the fact that he's ignored in the TV series, and that really doesn't do a whole lot of good for his character, since we authors don't have a large basis and POV to work off of.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that we have a large part planned for Trowa, but right now he's just not in the plot. That doesn't mean he's not going to be in the plot. So don't despair, loyal Trowa fans! ^_^ Speaking of which, I'm going to be writing Trowa. Originally it was QS, but we did a little juggling of characters and now it's me. Which I'm very happy about, since I think this will be a good chance for me to force myself to understand him. I wrote Wildflowers, in fact for that purpose, as well as to remind people that Trowa still exists...
Very special thanks to Solace for the wonderful email she sent us last night/this morning (I checked the email this morning). From now on, I think I'll try to address more SnK fan related general questions in this blog, so if you email us asking about something, I'll be answering it here. Of course, we'll email you back privately also, just like we always do. ^_^ It's just that I think that some questions would be of interest to all of our readers (the Trowa one being one of them).

*dies* Really sorry for the delay, folks...it's been one thing after another. I thought we'd have time to post during Thanksgiving, but neither QS nor I hardly even went NEAR the computer during the holiday, so there went that. This week's update goes with a big cheer to QS, who managed to pull off her sections even though she's deathly ill.
*cheerful grin*
When she hasn't been whining to me about her headcold, QS has managed to put out a really cool section about Cat. I must admit, that's one of my favorite sections of hers to date. Really nice reversal of roles for Cat and Relena, with Cat spouting off a healthy temper. This puts them both on the same footing, I guess. Makes Relena seem more human to Cat, since she's seen the harsher side of Cat's tongue.
As for my sections, I don't think they're amazing works, but they're pretty solid. I actually wrote Wufei over a period of about 2 and a half weeks. ^^;; Usually doesn't take me that long to write a section (be glad!) XD
Also, we have some great fanart in today's update. My favorite is the third "Atsuki and Wing" picture. If you click on it to view the whole picture you'll notice that it's a double picture: Wing and Atsuki on one side and Heero and Relena on the other. Great symbolic image there. Also, the fanart of the three women from "Trio" is really nicely inspired. ^_^ And check out Laurelgand's colored Atsuki pic while you're at it too.
Bed is calling...gotta go. Oh, and I archived and updated the fic of the month. ^^
