Song Lyrics

It's here! The authors' weblog for Sainan no Kekka, so you guys can see what we're working when the world of SnK is hiding behind the webpage during the week. Just what you always wanted, right?

For those of you visiting for the first time, Sainan no Kekka is a fanfiction sequel to the anime Gundam Wing. SnK, as it's commonly abbreviated, discards the "canon" OVA sequel Endless Waltz and instead explores an alternate possibility. What if the identity of the Gundam pilots was found out by the general public two years after the war ended? What consequences would this have on the pilots? On the people who considered them to be friends? On the newly developed World Nation and Preventers military organization?

Sainan no Kekka is located at http://www.midnightrevolution.org/gundam. We also are mirrored at http://www.gwaddiction.com/gundam/. We update every Saturday with a new part of the story. If you're interested, please drop by! If you're a returning reader, we hope this blog gives you something to laugh at, ponder, or just read when you're bored.

FIC SPOTLIGHT

As we are a fanfiction partnership, Quicksilver and I feel that it is only fitting that we introduce some of the great Gundam Wing fanfic works that exist. While Sainan no Kekka is our only GW fanfiction, there are certainly plenty other fics out there that deserve recognition. This column will spotlight one fic a month that we feel embodies the qualities of what makes a Gundam Wing fanfic great.

And the spotlight for APRIL is...Clouds and Lions by torch
GO HERE TO READ IT
Category: drama, character study
Type: oneshot (with sidestories available)
Canon: yes
Shounen-ai/yaoi: no (though there are yaoi sides available)

I'm up! *Quicksilver grins and tosses her ponytail playfully*

The last two months we've had some "lighter" sides in the spotlight. I decided I wanted to find another serious fic that was well written, creative, canon, and just plain good. Easier said then done.

Anyway, I was getting desperate when I stumbled across this. I'm not a Trowa fan, but I like this very much. Definite two thumbs up. The author knows how to write- no obvious errors, great imagery and word selection, and all in all, an engrossing read.

Clouds and Lions deals with early GW Trowa, sort of a "behind the scenes" look at what's going on. We see him in the circus, his early interaction with the pilots, his budding relationship with Catherine, and the emotional incapcity he has... there's a great scene where a man nearly dies, and he's unable to feel empathy for him. It's simply a great read, and helps me understand "The Silencer" a little better.

One of the neat things about this fic is that there's yaoi sidestories available, but they're NOT required reading. Or, as a friend of mine, Haze, summed it up: "It's great because it's non-yaoi, but has all the possible yaoi side stories. She writes the best 1x3 out there, by far."

I'm not a 1x3 fan (my two least favs among the pilots), so I'll just take her word on it.

err....ahem. ^^;;

As you probably have noticed, we have not updated for a while. Rather than trying to squeeze in an update in the last week of April, we're taking a break till May. Sorry for the late notice...it's mainly my fault. I haven't been around, but I'm back now.

Only 2 more weeks of school left...

It's so damn hot. You guys are lucky we're taking a sabatical soon, or else SNK would devolve into a whine about heat and how we should figure out a way to give everyone temperature-controled bodysuits. We're updating this weekend with "Reset" and "Mirage".

There has been a history of Operation Meteor posted under the Information section. The essay pertains to the Darkflight/Shinobu subplot, so please read it! ^_^

Also, I think it's safe to say that the main site is back up. >< It better STAY up this time...

La li ho! As Shindou Shuuichi would say....

Well, it seems that most people were amused by our April 1 prank, for which I am VERY relieved. I almost pulled out at multiple points- even though it was my idea, I'm a coward when it comes to offending people. I hate having people mad at me. Blame Ger for actually carrying it THROUGH.... I would have chickened out if not for him- and Lyra. This is the first time we've ever added another cowriter, but the reason for that was simple: Lyra is insane enough to add some more depth! And it was most certainly FUN FUN FUN to write!

Only the first part WAS supposed to get you. The theory Ger, Ly and I wrote with was gradually making it go from plausible to more and more ludicrous until it finally was flat-out WHACKED. We tried to use and many GW cliches as possible- vampires, yaoi, characters not being dead, crossdressing, author inserts, people being related in weird fashions, multiple personalities (we hinted at this with Zechs), stalker Relena... there were a few others in there. We DIED laughing as we wrote it, but I haven't been able to write a normal sentence since!

Okay, onto a review of last week's update. Last week I got to do the Hilde/Duo/Heero section that's been coming forever, and we got to further develop the relationship between Chris/Helena/Shinobu. I had fun writing both, though I felt a cavity coming on from all the sugar in the end of Helena's section.

Heero is coming back to himself- his memories aren't perfect, but going through rehab (three days inpatient- right now he's an outpatient) has helped him start to get things back together. Duo's angry at everyone right now- especially himself and Trowa. Should be some interesting dynamics there! And, of course, we have the religion aspect worked in there- Duo desperately wants to believe, but everytime there comes a point where he's on the brink, something goes wrong.

Helena and Chris demonstrate that love is fleeting, and that people change. Chris has calmed down since the shooting, but neither he nor any of the others will be the same. The title is especially appropriate for that, since Helena had already moved on without being aware of how it happened- the gradual change of seasons. Shinobu is a much more appropriate match for her as she is now- he'll challenge her, something Chris wouldn't do.

Anyway, this week marked the beginning of my "frantic period". I did two scenes to Ger's one this week, and will have two in the final update as well. It's combination scenes again, so... ^^;;; Ger might be helping on one since I'm using one of his characters. This story is getting more complex, and it's HARD to keep track of where everyone is. The timeline is more for my sanity than for our reader's!

Next week (I think it's the 13?), Ger and I will be finishing up the sidestory arc between 8 and 9. I'll be doing "Mirage" and Ger will be doing "Reset". I'm looking forward to mine- it's an exploration of Atsuki and Quatre, right after her death. I've got the beginning done, and we're seeing a stronger Quatre emerge- he's not the pushover he was through the first two arcs.

"Give me your gun," Quatre demanded, turning to the airman who hadn't spoken yet.

"Huh?" The young airman scratched her head. "You're not authorized to carry weapons on base," she said finally.

He gave her a soft smile, the one that so many people found enchanting, but the hint of steel behind it belied the innocence his blue eyes seemed to promise. "I'm not wandering around base unarmed. I need to be able to protect myself... the gun, please." He held out a hand for it.

Well, our guestbook and email inbox are beginning to resemble a morgue/madhouse/firing range. ^^; Thanks to everyone who wrote in, whether it be with condolences or death threats for our joke. We read and enjoyed (hopefully ^^;) every single one of your emails, and we'll try to reply to all of them but we undoubtedly will miss some.

The point of the fake 9.2 was to just kind of "lighten up" SnK. Our fic is pretty serious and angst-filled, and we all need some humor once in a while. Of course, we probably gave some of you heart attacks, and for that we apologize. No more tricks, I promise!

I only had one section in 9.2, but it was an important one. Shinobu and Darkflight are beginning to discover that they have more in common than they previously thought, and it doesn't look to be pretty. As a member and heir of the Black Diamond, Shinobu understandably wants to protect his rights, his honor, and his family. Cartel politics are ugly in the Breaks, and though poor Darkflight has no idea what's going on, Shinobu is determined to find out what he thinks is "the truth."

I'll be posting an essay on this later as to how this genetic experiment, which Shin terms "Operation Ares," ties into the whole SnK saga. It is more important that it seems. Hopefully later acts will bring it out a little bit, but for the most part, Operation Ares is going to be discussed in essays and sides. Just like Episode Zero, it'll be SnK canon that won't really be exposed in the main story, simply because we don't have time to go into detail. However, it IS important. I'll be posting the essay next week and I hope all of you will go read it.

As for updates, I'm out of town this weekend and so there will be no new part until next weekend. *bows* Gomen!

If you haven't already, check out the new featured fic of the month for April. It's VERY good.

transmission |:| Important Announcement
date |:| Wednesday, March 27, 2002

Gerald and I've been discussing something for several months now, and we've finally made our decision.

Throughout the process of writing SNK, many people have stated that we should work on a novel together. What is NOT common knowledge is the fact that we have, indeed, begun one. After we hit the 100,000 mark (which is approximately half a novel), we begun to re-evaluate our options. Gerald is graduating from college soon, and I work full-time, so neither of us have the time to write the way we used to. And when we had to weigh between continuing our fanwork, or continuing our original work.... the choice was obvious.

So what does this mean? This means that rather then the projected thirteen acts, SNK is going to be slashed down to nine. Gerald and I have been working on closing the arc, and next week's update should do that (we might add another scene). We hope you enjoyed the journey through the SNK universe, and assure you that we always remain open to future dialogue.

As for our novel, the project is tentatively titled "Voices", and it's what I like to call humanistic sci-fi with a nice healthy splash of cyber punk thrown in. Updates on its status will be posted to SNK'S pages (we might add a sidestory or two in the future) and our blog- and if it ever gets published, we expect everyone to buy a copy!

Read the announcement on the site's main page for more information.

Finally got the new blog layout up, as well as 9.1. Yeah I know we updated a day late. More like 3 hours late, actually. ^^;; But what can I say, it's up. This version features Sally Po and Chang Wufei, with an awesome fanart of SnK-aged Wufei done by Lyra Stormrider! Lyrics and title come from Hai Kuo Tian Kong, by the Cantonese rock group Beyond. There's a link to lyrics and translation of the song under the title to the left, if you're interested.

I had three sections in 9.1 and QS only had one, so I guess my blog entry will be longer? Something like that. I found Wufei's section to be the easiest to write so naturally I wrote his first. I was doing some research across the net on Wufei and surprisingly (or maybe not so surprisingly) people admit that he's one of the characters that they don't understand very well. Wufei and Trowa seem to be the two pilots that fall into that category (Heero doesn't, surprisingly...or again maybe not surprisingly). Maybe it's just because I'm Asian and in the military, but I feel kind of a connection with the guy. *shrug* Anyway, if the conversation with Wufei and Sally seems familiar, turn back to Act I to Sally's scene. I tried to bring back similar themes, to bring the two characters "full circle" so to speak. Although SnK's not quite finished yet. XD

Etille's section is standard: he arrives, he sees Sally, he gets a job. Etille isn't getting a job out of as much of a sense of duty as he is getting one because Une ordered him to get one. Technically, he isn't under Une's command and he could have just ignored her. The fact that he didn't is interesting, though anyone could have guessed that he would never turn down any order from any military official. Etill is just like that.

And finally, Heero. My little project...goes from crazy to sane in one scene. One LONG scene certainly, in which he finally gets the better of his hallucinations. (Timeline note: the dream/hallucination happens the night after the attack and he wakes up in the hospital the morning after that. Just in case you're confused, Heero has been going to detox since he came to the base, and after Atsuki died, he locked himself in his room and refused to go. He's already been without the drugs for almost two weeks, and his body gives in on him. Thus his interesting "dream" is him going unconscious during drug withdrawal.)

Heero hasn't been thinking of himself as Wing anymore, not since he's been on base, but it wasn't because he's accepted who he used to be, but because he's been blocking it out, just like he blocked out those memories of the war after he took on the Wing persona. In a few simple words: Heero is running and he can't stop. He can't bring himself to accept his past, but at the same time, he can't get rid of it. By blocking it out, he increases the mental pressure on himself and if he'd had tried to hold out a little longer, he probably would have cracked and done something drastic like develop schizophrenia as Lady Une did. Or maybe perhaps not something so drastic...but similar.

I'll talk more about this in my author's notes to make the post short, but suffice to say that Heero should be ok now. Maybe. *evil grin*
