trabsmission |:| snk and its authors We're heading for April 1. Ger and I are both Americans, as everyone knows. SNK changes with the times (some of the minor subplots and DEFINITELY the sides) but we're not going to lecture on that. I DID have an interesting personal e-mail asking if Ger had been sent over, and the answer is no. Ger's still here! He's still in college for another three months? I'm not sure what his assignment will be, but... well, I'm sure whatever it is, he'll do his duty. If you ever want to know what Ger's feelings are, read the sidestories "Duty" and "Heroes." I think they are Ger. At least, I think James has become Ger's avatar. ^_~ As for me, I'm covering this locally, and I'm definitely starting to get an idea of how to take Banks. He's coming back. Definitely. And... it's not gonna be fun for him. As for author avatar, if I had one... *tries to think* I think it would be Helena? I really don't know. She's not quite like me. I think all the characters are based a bit on me, since when you write, you put yourself into your work. Scary thought, since all the SNK characters are crazed. quicksilver joined Sally's rebellion at 09:45 p.m. Well... we're here. Guess it's my turn to blog. Act 0 was interesting to write, to say the least. When I reflect back on it, it was like taking a back into the "good old times" when the universe was simpler and we had fewer characters to keep track of! It was also a hell of a lot easier to keep from contraditing ourselves, since Ger and I simply had to know about when each of the parts was set. Act 0 is divided into 4 parts: before/during the war, Treize's death and its immediate aftermath, 6 months and the anniversary. Of course, considering not all of these are very time-line coherent (particularly Heero, Wufei and Zechs - but that's because it's back to the beginning of them when they were really whacked!), but that was the general theme when we decided to write them. Of course, I have a much more linnear mind then Ger, so all of my pieces can be set at definite dates. There's some contractions (I hate to think how much Scene 15 might clash with Stille Nacht) but this is the main story, so we're sticking to it! The nice thing about writing the prologue NOW is that it was easy as SIN to do foreshadowing and a bit of character establishment, since we know our original characters better now than we did then. Hilde's not-date Brent was a friend of James Keets... Sally's section takes place in two time periods... the "six months" would have been just when she started to form her group, and in a way, she is the Lucifer who is falling... General Brown helping to set up the Preventers... And Li enters as the cold athiest. ^_~ Great for establishment. Up next is Act 11... Quatre's trial comes to a head, Heero and Duo truly start their voyage, Shinobu and Darkflight and Helena haven't fallen out of the story, Dorothy finds a new battlefield, Li and Sally push, Trowa- well, that's a huge spoiler, Une takes back what is hers, and Relena and Hilde form an alliance. Plus a few other twists. We have three acts left, and they are EXPLOSIVE. During the last part (0.4), the Columbia exploded. It's weird writing a piece like this around a time like that, since the stars and adoration for space are such a key part of many characters make-up.... Ger and I often write about Noin, Treize and Quatre in particular loving space.... but it makes you realize these people did. quicksilver joined Sally's rebellion at 01:45 p.m. *dies* We're ALIVE! And we POSTED! Act 0.2 is up, obviously. We were going to post last weekend, but QS lost her computer and we were scared for a bit that she'd lost all her SnK files along with it. But she managed to save them, so no harm done. I wrote Sylvia and Trowa and had a lot of fun doing it. I'm sure something like Sylvia's has been done before, but I don't think I've ever read a fic about the Libra falling from that perspective, so it was fun. QS usually writes Sylvia, so it was also a bit of a fun challenge trying to find her voice. Trowa's section gives a bit more of the backstory we developed during his Act 8 sections. Since we've completely cut the Barton family out of existence in SnK, it's been very exciting to develop the yakuza backstory. If you haven't read Confessions of a Yakuza by Junichi Saga, I suggest you find it as soon as possible. I know Amazon sells it. Most of the yakuza tradition in SnK for Trowa is drawn from that book. It's an excellent read. As you've probably noticed, our sections tend to get longer and longer and deviate greatly from the projected lengths and titles that we post on the page. As always, Act 0 has gotten quite a bit longer than we expected, so we've divided it into 4 parts instead of the original 3. ^^;; In any case, we're keeping to our original update schedule as much as we can, so we're going to try to post 3 weeks in a row. The next update will happen this Saturday (Act 0.2). I was going to make an Act Zero layout for the blog, but I don't think it's worth the effort now...so you get to see Trowa and Cat a bit longer. =P I'm also aware there are multiple typos/grammar errors in the Christmas side that I posted on Dec 25. ^^;; I'll go back and correct those as soon as possible. My fault for my editing before I posted...was trying to get it posted as soon as possible so I wouldn't miss the holiday! (didn't think a Christmas fic posted on Dec 26 would really be a Christmas fic) Hmm...anyway, 0.2 on Saturday and then 0.3 on the 25th of January, and we should be all set to go for Act 11. Gerald joined Sally's rebellion at 02:14 p.m. QS is deathly ill again (she has strep) so we're not going to be able to update tonight. Sorry for the delay. ^^ Gerald joined Sally's rebellion at 12:09 a.m. I've always enjoyed writing battle scenes, and 10.4 was the perfect opportunity for me to go all out. So I did. ^^;; Wufei is probably the longest section I've EVER written for SnK (yes, the Catalonia legacy side was longer...but that was a side). I think both Zechs and Wufei turned out well, though. The missiles will become very important in the later Acts, as QS said. The problem right now is that no one except the Preventers are really taking Sally seriously. The World Nation has its eye on the Quatre trial and is looking at Sally really as some rebel/renegade/terrorist who couldn't possibly pose a real threat. She's big news, but they not particularly worried about what she can do. As they're about to find out...they're VERY wrong... Quicksilver is deathly ill again...always seems to happen to her this time of year. *cackels8 I think she explained Act 0 rather well down below (scroll down to her entry to see what I mean if you haven't read it yet) I will be posting the act titles to it on the REVELATION ARC page. ^^;; Wow...never thought we'd be going back this far, na? So please look on that page for updates in the next month or so. We should be ready to go on Act 11 in January. Ger joined Sally's rebellion at 12:20 a.m. *smiles* I hope everyone enjoyed this Act - we certainly had a lot of fun writing it. Well, not fun, but hell. It was hell, to be quite honest. Going on hiatus again, and going biweekly - but real life happens. But we're still typing away, and we're definitely in the homestretch- now it's to Act 0. Act 0? Well, this is Ger's fault, but I of course took his grain of an idea and expanded on it. Act 0 is the prologue. We've decided we need to explore Treize before we can continue, since he's very important to Act 11 and 12 - at least, his shadow is. So we were going to create a series of sides with characters interacting with him, but when we started to figure out which characters we wanted to bring in, we realized that everyone except Hilde and Trowa for the core characters had something to say - thus, we had another act. So we created a prologue, and we'll be throwing them in. The prologue is going to be about Treize, and what he was... it ranges from Noin at the beginning (the two canon characters who have died by now!) and ends with Une, the woman who knew him best. Everyone else falls between, with Zechs in the middle. Sylvia's in it; she's canon, along with the G-boys, and all their counterparts. It should be an interesting road, though they may not all focus on Treize quite as much as Une will. ^_~ Anyway, that's Act 0. Sorry for the postponement of Act 11, but we need to get this concept understood before we go ahead with the next part. Anyway, for the close of Act 10, I did pull one scene, which was going to be a return to Banks. I decided not to, since he kinda destroyed the flow of the plot - I might make a sidestory, but I've been having problems with sides lately. I was sick this week, as many people know, and my writing is always affected. Ger was again way ahead of me with HUGE sections, but... what can I do? I just managed to pull through by the skin of my teeth. I did a Hilde scene which I rather like, and an Une scene which I'm so-so on. It's a set-up for her kick-ass 11 scene (which I have started- neener neener, Ger!). I actually wrote quite a bit with Trowa in it.... he's finally getting his grounding in this act. His speaking to Hilde is a mirror of him leaving Catherine behind - he's making up for the sins of the past. And this IS Relena's act, so I made sure she had a chance to come into her own... with Hilde pushing her over the edge. Hilde and Relena both love pilots, but Hilde is certainly luckier in love than Relena. She at least knows Duo loves her... but in the end, they're both left in the same spot. version 6 | act 10 [I HOPE YOU DANCE] Trowa and Catherine It's here! The authors' weblog for Sainan no Kekka, so you guys can see what we're working when the world of SnK is hiding behind the webpage during the week. Just what you always wanted, right? For those of you visiting for the first time, Sainan no Kekka is a fanfiction sequel to the anime Gundam Wing. SnK, as it's commonly abbreviated, discards the "canon" OVA sequel Endless Waltz and instead explores an alternate possibility. What if the identity of the Gundam pilots was found out by the general public two years after the war ended? What consequences would this have on the pilots? GERALD TARRANT FIC SPOTLIGHT As we are a fanfiction partnership, Quicksilver and I feel that it is only fitting that we introduce some of the great Gundam Wing fanfic works that exist. While Sainan no Kekka is our only GW fanfiction, there are certainly plenty other fics out there that deserve recognition. This column will spotlight one fic a month that we feel embodies the qualities of what makes a Gundam Wing fanfic great.
And the spotlight for OCTOBER is...Blessed by Lady Akemi We meant to spotlight this in July, but forgot about updating the blog for a while, so here's an early October present for you. Be prepared for something serious, dark, and pretty depressing, but if you like Gundam Wing fanfiction that fits with the canon and explores some of the themes from the series, this one will surely satisfy you and then some. Lady Akemi's portrayal of King Nathaniel and Queen Katrina of the Cinq Kingdom, the parents of Zechs and Relena, in the final days of their reign is a powerful and extremely moving one. She not only tells the story of the fall of the kingdom and the end of a line, but she delves down deep into the psyche of the royal couple as well as those close to them. Far from being the perfect monarchs memorialized in legend and in the memories of their children, Nathaniel and Katrina face the same weaknesses, worries, and jealousies of any human being as they struggle to save their kingdom. I'll be honest and say this is one of the best GW fanfics I've ever read. Not only that, but it fits perfectly with the SnK storyline. If you haven't read this, what are you waiting for?
