This election mess in Zimbabwe got even messier. The president of that country has been kicking out international observers and foreign news media. The observers were kicked out because they would not agree to help him swing the election. The news media because they published or produced some critical pieces about his treatment of the international observers. This past weekend reporters talked about lines at the polls 4,000 people long and people near the front who had been waiting over 8 hours. Now that the elections have closed, Mugabe has accused an official in his opponent's party of treason? WTF? Eh... It would be less believeable if the US politicians were not capable of similar behavior.
What did you do for the 6 month anniversary of the 9-11? Me? Not a thing? Does that make me anti-patriotic? Does that make me uncaring?

Bought some computer books. Felt dirty after. Maybe it is cause I told myself earlier this morning that I would not buy any books?

Tomorrow night is the trailer for Attack of the Clones. I hope the movie is better than the title. Look for it between Malcom in the Middle and the X-Files on Fox.

Realized while playing Warcraft that I play it like I play Risk. My usual strategy is to design a protective area where my forces can quickly react to threats. Once that is established, I will amass my forces to strike. My attack strategy is to cut the enemy's supply line. When the enemy cannot amass their forces while I can it is only a matter of attrition. In Risk this means grabbing South America to Australia. South America is better because it means that I can grab a foothold on Africa and North America and deny everyone else 3 or 5 armies respectively. Once I have my continent, I build up and leave 10 armies on either side of its connections to the other continents. I guess I refuse to lose my important supply of troops? In Warcraft, the enemy will harry me, but it is fairly consistent and easily anticipated. Usually I can position a force to ambush it with minimal impact. Then, I build a small force to sneak behind enemy lines and kill the workers mining for gold. As long as I do not encroach the enemy's soldiers I can kill the workers as I please. Eventually the enemy has no more gold, which means it cannot train more soldiers. That is when I send the main army to crush the enemy. Thankfully, AI is not more reactive and intelligent. Though I have to find more challenging friends for playing Risk. They know that I am going to take either SouthAm or Aust, but have yet to prevent me from doing it.

Going to install FreeBSD and some flavor of Linux on a workstation. Fun! This is to attempt to get closer to the environment in which this project I am working on was originally developed.

"By attempting to protect ourselves from viruses we are preventing the realization of artificial intelligence. So we should open all of our ports and remove the logins." -- J This was sarcasm, I think. I did find it very amusing.

Okay, WHO is it that has a crush on me? Please... don't use some service like Crushlink or SecretlyHot4U. If you put in my address and do not actually have a crush on me, then please do not use these services. I don't think they really are in the business of connection crushes or secret admirers. They are in the business of convincing people to give them email addresses.

This is newly posted in my work web site's guest book. "Guest book spammers whose message contains any form of advertisement for a web site I deem to be commercial will find the entry deleted at MY convenience." Sorry... I don't like being spammed. I get close to a thousand emails a day. I consider spam to be rude and refuse to buy from companies that send it. Companies have lost my business by spamming my other email accounts. Spammers are on my short list of pet peeves.

According to Eisner in this Reuters articles, "Congress needs to encourage common ways of stopping digital piracy of movies, TV shows and other entertainment products that threatens to stifle industry innovation...". If you are already of the opinion that the media industy has no innovation, then I guess digital piracy is supposed to make it worse? The last truly innovative movie I've seen in theatres was Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Don't get me wrong, I loved The Fellowship of the Ring. I have seen it more times in theatres than any other movie. Still it was not really very innovative. We have become a culture of having recycling everything. Trends and ideas. Bell bottoms, afros, recycled plots, and boy bands no one can articulate the difference between except names. Usually I don't mind it. If something works, then why change it? Innovation is good, but don't blame it on something that is not really having that much of an impact. CD sales were up during a recession until 9-11. The losses during that period was enough to give them a 4% loss for the year.
