At least I am not alone. Others with high-tech gadgets forget their toys. I just forget where I put my glasses and my shoes.

Interesting conv with Lacey about the malleability of men and the capitalization of women upon this weakness.... It is truly amazing how men seem to be so completely unaware that women use them. Then as they get older the more aware come to realize they are being used and spread the word slowly but surely. Meanwhile the females are so used to using the guys they don't know how to stop.

Maybe there should be a class and no, sex ed doesn't even touch this stuff.

I look at my friends and their frustrations through the last 10 years. I look at my brother and feel sorry for him for he has 10 more years of this.

Course, then she wanted me to be more "spontaneous" and do more wild and crazy things.

Back from TBI. Good trip. Tired from the driving, but still good. Not as many people there, especially from GA. Wondered if the rain or another event kept them away?

Went to all adult sessions again this year. Some great presentations and workshops were done. Still thinking about them when I can.

Catching up on work stuff now. Out to be an interesting week. Instructors and students are frustrated and just now getting back to us. They have had it not work for 3 weeks and realizing that they really do need assistance.

Interesting. Someone from the west coast hit my resume from a search engine. Apparently someone looking for someone with experience in making dreamweaver templates?

Was going to leave at noon. Instead I am installing Solaris 2.8 on my new Ultra 10 box. Prolly will install apache, mysql, and php on it next week.

Will migrate to the new p4 next week too.

Didja see my priority? :)

Got this from my uncle...
God Bless the Irish

Saddam Hussein was sitting in his office wondering whom to invade next when his telephone rang.

"Hallo! Mr. Hussein," a heavily accented voice said. "This is Paddy down at the Harp pub in County Sligo, Ireland. I am ringing to inform you that we are officially declaring war on you!"

"Well, Paddy," Saddam replied, "This is indeed important news! How big is your army?"

"Right now," said Paddy, after a moment's calculation, "there is myself, my cousin Sean, my next door neighbor Seamus, and the entire dart team from the pub. That makes eight!"

Saddam paused. "I must tell you, Paddy, that I have one million men in my army waiting to move on my command."

"Begorra!", said Paddy. "I'll have to ring you back!" Sure enough, the next day, Paddy called again. "Mr. Hussein, the war is still on! We have managed to acquire some infantry equipment!"

"And what equipment would that be, Paddy?" Saddam asked.

"Well, we have two combines, a bulldozer, and Murphy's farm tractor."

Saddam sighed. "I must tell you, Paddy, that I have 16,000 tanks and 14,000 armored personnel carriers. Also, I've increased my army to 1-1/2 million since we last spoke."

"Saints preserve us!" said Paddy. "I'll have to get back to you."

Sure enough, Paddy rang again the next day. "Mr. Hussein, the war is still on! We have managed to get ourselves airborne! We've modified Harrigan's ultra-light with a couple of shotguns in the cockpit, and four boys from the Shamrock pub have joined us as well!"

Saddam was silent for a minute and then cleared his throat. "I must tell you, Paddy, that I have 10,000 bombers and 20,000 fighter planes. My military complex is surrounded by laser-guided, surface-to-air missile sites. And since we last spoke, I've increased my army to TWO MILLION!"

"Jesus, Mary, and Joseph!", said Paddy, "I'll have to ring you back."

Sure enough, Paddy called again the next day. "Top o' the mornin', Mr. Hussein! I am sorry to tell you that we have had to call off the war."

"I'm sorry to hear that," said Saddam. "Why the sudden change of heart?"

"Well," said Paddy, "we've all had a long chat over a bunch of pints, and decided there's no way we can feed two million prisoners.

Getting one a Sun Ultra 10 with 21" flat screen for the office. So excited!

Will be able to hook up the Ultra 10 and the Deskpro EX to the same monitor. Will have 2 keyboards and mice, but that is okay.

I have a new favorite feature... When you hover over an image, IE 6 pops up a menu to allow you to save, print, or email the picture.

Web image protectionists have a new enemy... IE 6! Why disable the right mouse button when the act of hovering over an image is even worse?

Installed IE 6... so far no problems. Stay tuned because I will be sure to send gripes up to M$ over every problem.

Got an email from another dear friend which has been long off my radar. When it rains it pours, huh? Over the last couple weeks I've gotten email and run into people I have not heard from in months. Kinda cool.

Got one of these at work... P4 1.3 GHz, 256 MB RAM, 20 GB hard drive. Hoping to get an internal CD-RW for it. Will have to attach the SCSI scanner and USB Zip to it.

Prolly will have to rebuild from scratch again. Means I will have to wait until things settle down.

Problems with WebCT. Grades getting lost... Availability settings failing... too much of a pain.

I miss all of my dear online friends. Chatting was so full of funny, smart, and pretty women. Miss it. Miss the adventure too.

Even the few to which I still see online, I don't see them nearly as much.

Really like HitMatic's Loyalty Indicators. You can see how many visitors come back in a variety of ranges... first, second, third, fourth-fifth, sixth-tenth, etc. Another chart has the frequency of the return visits.

So to get all the stats you want without doing your own programming you really need multiple hit trackers, huh?

Funny... Someone sends me an email asking about how to hack Hotmail. Being the friendly guy that I am (don't laugh) I send that to Hotmail's abuse address. Hotmail sends me 2 automated messages. The first lets me know that they received my message and it had certain key words which they give me info cooncerning common issues with those keywords. The second lets me know that since I sent it from a non-Hotmail account, they really can't do anything.

Only 800+ emails to download this morning. Lots of SirCam attachements to disinfect and deduce the owner's real identity. Another 200+ instances of computers looking at mine without permission over the weekend (reinstalled ZoneAlarm since Tiny Firewall let everything through unless I told it not to allow it).

Another gem from Rebecca: Blocking Ads. Gotta implement this at the office. The one with more than just Mac could work with any OS with a hosts file.

This is amazingly simple. Tell your system to map the advertiser hosts on your local machine. Since the system cannot find them, it cannot download the add.

There is another "helpful" virus on the scene... TROJ_ALLGRO.A. This one sends and attachment tells you it checks for viruses. Of course, the person runs it, the programs sends email to everyone in the address book, and the ALLGRO attacks other viruses such as TROJ_SIRCAM.A and TROJ_BADTRANS.A. It also deletes VBS files.

Is this the case of a virus writer attempting to help people by tricking them into falling for yet another virus? When will the insanity stop?

2 possibilities:
  1. CP 2.2.1 is more stable than 2.1.1
  2. or Joe has been hiding the crashes.
Hopefully the former. 2.1.1 rarely made it over 2 weeks without at least 1 crash. 2.2.1 has gone at least 2 weeks so far.

Pretty cool when you help someone and they take to making a web site like a fish to water.

Reminds me of a scene on Boston Public where the parent tells the principal that he needs to get to know the good kids not just the bad ones. Still working on how we do that.

Just when I thought the WebCT Rush of 2001 was over.... maybe next week? *sigh*

Too many movies open this week... Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, Bubble Boy, and Curse of the Jade Scorpiopn. Then add to that I have still not seen American Pie 2 nor Rat Race
