OK, here's a longer rant about first-years, general irresponsibility, and obnoxiousness.

Let me actually begin with saying that I am trying not to be a grumpy senior, but hey, I'm a senior and I'm feeling grumpy. AND not all first-years are annoying. It's just the ones who live in my dorm that are REALLY pissing me off.
So I work with two first-years (fy) during my shift. One of them just annoys the crap out of me. First-years generally are not hired at the HD, if I understand it correctly, but she and some others were hired this year. Granted, she is pretty knowledgable when it comes to computers, but she really has no common sense.
She can sound really professional on the phone, but she acts so unprofessional at other times. Like today, she kept talking over me to the other fy (I was sitting between them). Fine, whatever, but do you really have to be so goddamned loud? Annoying. Even the staff member asked them to be more quiet.
But she keeps talking about really random stuff in a very unprofessional way, even when users walk into the Helpdesk.
Okay, I understand the need to rant better than most, but there is a time and place for it. You should not rant about people when they are standing right there.

So yeah, in general, I was pretty annoyed with her and keep really quiet during this shift. I'm pretty sure she thinks that I have a stick up my butt, and if I have to deal with her, yeah, I'll act like a stuck-up bitch.
Anyway, back to today, the user who called was pretty frustrated at us for her lack of comfort with computers. Basically, it's our fault that the computers don't work exactly as she thinks they do. Like I said, I have had to deal with really hard-to-deal-with users before, but if I rant abut them, I don't do it while they can hear me. That's just plain rude. Just because the fy understands how to use the computer, doesn't give her the right to be a bitch. While she was bitching about the user and I told her that the user was on the phone, she just looked at me and ignored what I said. I don't care if you want to ignore me, but at least think about the fact that the person you're trashing can hear you.
Furthermore, when she was talking about the user, the fy kept saying "she's a technician". Basically, she's was being condescending because the user's not a professor, etc, etc. What the hell? What's wrong wth being a lab technician? The fy doesn't know the user, but I think I know who she is. From my experience with the user, I'd say she was about 65 yrs old (I'm probably being REALLY generous here... a staff member said she was like 90), and I got the feeling that perhaps she either does not hear things or don't process things quite right. Again, the fy kept calling the user a bitch even though she knew nothing of that person.
Like I've said ranting is fine, but when you work at someplace like HD, you're going to have to deal with people who are not on the skill level as you. The fy was being so incredibly condescending and childish. I really wonder about the maturity level of some of these people at the school. It was obnoxious.

I feel really pissy today. One of the first years at work really bugged me. I mean really bugged me.
Today, she was helping this caller who obviously was not comfortable with computers. She got really frustrated and started sounding so condescending. I did actually speak with the woman too, and yes, that user was not very nice, but at the same time, the first year was just plain rude. She started mocking the user to Marge, while the user was on the phone with the staff member who just happened to be standing not two feet away. The phones pick up background noise pretty well...
And the first year is LOUD. (think Kentarou of Rokkaku). It was just so incredibly unprofessional.

I'm like a lightning rod or something. Everything I touch has been shocking me. I just feel staticky.

Oh dear, Pom is having a fire drill. Someone yelled "who wants to go to Caz and watch TV??" It never ceases to amuse me that they don't make the fire alarm system joined because if Pom burns down, Caz will fall too.... but that's too logical for us, ain't it?
Hmm, I'm too verbose. Before I finished this entry, we had a fire drill as well.
Oh hell, Shafer's got one too. It must be the quad's night to have fire drills.

Haven't been fangirling as much as I use to, so just to bring this blog back to its original intention:
Can I mention too much how much I like PoT? Admittedly, the anime is getting worse, but the PoT world is vast and wide.... In the last month, I was able to acquire the op. Requests songs, the ed. Requests songs, Tezuka's and Atobe's new singles, more Kiss of Prince songs, Rajipuri, another Minaraji (with guest Kimeru *grin*), the remixes of Eiji, Kaidoh, Kamio, Yanagizawa and Kisarazu, a song from Smash Hit, and the AOZU and Cap to Bin songs.
Needless to say, my harddrive has been suffering... I was down to about 675MB last night.

Brief Reviews
Atobe's new songs don't stand out for me. I think they sound rather like the songs on his album. Tezuka's, however, had me duly impressed and loving Okiayu's voice.
KOP songs - I am now up to 19, which is I think almost half of the ones in the game. Most of the songs did not stand out, but I liked Fujis' (both Yuuta and Syusuke), Tezuka's, Taka-san's, and Atobe's (but again, it sounds like his other songs). Taichi's is cute. I am really interested in Mizuki's though.... Ishida Akira's singing voice is not, um, so nice as others.
Am amused that Driving Myself says "Let's tough."
Overall, I was more impressed with the earlier songs than these later batches. Some are really nice, others are really catchy, and still others are just so well sung. However, I thought that all of Atobe's songs sound alike, the KOP sounds weren't as fitting as the character singles, and the Requests albums are nice for people who hadn't bought the singles when they came out or people who are obsessively collecting PoT in all its variations.

Still haven't managed to master mIRC. Yesterday or a couple of days ago, I was in Jen's channel. Somehow I ended up with a + next to my nick, and downloading became so much easier. :) Got about 20-25kbps instead of the 2 or 3 I was so used to. I think it has something to do with "voice" but I have no idea what that means. Oh well. Still happy that people share so much there. :)

Sigh I went all the way to work because a professor had said that the DVD player on the computer wasn't working, so my boss sent me over to check it out. I get there only to realize the reason was that the computer didn't have a DVD drive.... and I knew that too because it's the same type of computer we have in CSC. Stupid stupid stupid. I even thought "I betcha the computer doesn't even have a DVD drive" when I first read the email, but I went over there anyway. Shows that I should never just take a prof's word for anything computer related.

Listened to Rajipuri #33. It was Okiayu's birthday and they sang Happy Birthday to him! So cute. He reminds me so much of Shigure. :)

Am slightly peeved at people who want to borrow my notes but don't even bother to come pick them up and instead of returning them to me, expect me to go pick it back up from them. Not really annoyed, but peeved. Especially because this happened twice this weekend.

LAST BIO LAB!!!!!! (until the practical... but I'd rather not think about that) and to make it even better, we got a refund of the money we paid to get into the MCZ back at the beginning of the semester! I got to play with brains (stinky, but fun) and got $5!

Chris is like the nicest person ever. He offered me a research/note-typing position for winter break, but I couldn't take it, so he offered to hire me for the note-typing anyway. Now I wonder if he'll actually get me the notes on time this time.

Yes, I guess Sirius's portrayal was necessary. He needed to have some flaws, I guess. It's just that, well, he was being kinda stupid rather than just flawed....

Thanks to you two... I'm not really feeling much on the rejection. I kinda already knew since my friend had gotten an interview with them so I knew that if they had wanted me for an interview, they would have told me already.
The letter was actually kinda amusing. It's like one of those break-up letters... "It's not that you're not qualified; it's just that we're too desirable a school." hehehe
And yes, the school whose law school has issues of Shounen Jump is still in the running, although my guess is that the chances are very slim.

I'm tired. I slept at 2 last night even though I really had no reason to. It might have something to do with the fact that I was feeling pretty damned hostile towards a certain class that has been mentioned many times in the last couple of posts.
I feel better knowing that I am not the only person who thinks the class is *bleep*. Talked with two of my classmates. One is an econ major who's taking QR 199... she didn't think she should take this class too because that is also stats, but the prof said it would be okay. So she took it and she thinks it's bleh.
The other has every reason to hate the prof. She overslept one day and couldn't get to class on time. So instead of walking in halfway through class, she dropped off her pset at the prof's office during classtime. The professor is not giving her ANY credit for that pset because she considers that "late". That's 10 points gone (the midterm was 50 pts), even though she obviously had done the work and turned it in... just not in class.
Yeah, I was not feeling very happy about a certain class last night.

I thought Sirius deserved better than that death scene. It was short and vague. Maybe it sets it up for a return of some sort (since JKR talked about the voices coming from behind the veil), but it was so bleh. Sirius really got a bad deal this book. He was so cool in PoA... here he was pretty much completely emasculated and so unnecessarily cruel as a kid. Sure he wasn't perfect, but the last images of him are the ones where he's being mean to Snape, to Kreacher, and being completely reckless to the point of stupidity. (Sirius's character in this book kinda sucked... and I LIKE Sirius too.)
I don't think Snape could have died because they still need a mole among the Death-Eaters and no one could do it other tan Snape. However, if Voldemort was able to look into Harry's mind, wouldn't he KNOW that Snape was in the Order?
Harry was annoyingly teenaged. It got sickening. Please stop that stupid adolescent angst before the next book...
Cho is a weenie chick. Crying to get a guy's attention is enough to warrant that assignment. However, jumping from guy to guy to guy is just stupid. Weenie.

Dumbledore's little talk with Harry at the end seemed strange to me. The reasoning he gave was satisfactory....
I like McGonagall. She rocks.

I still like JKR's subtleness which isn't quite so subtle. It might have been that I read this rushed-ly and spread over a number of weeks, but there were things that I did not catch until I was nearly at the end of the book.

Hmmm.... this has been a week of goods and bads.
Goods: I didn't fail either my Bio or Chem midterms.
Bads: I didn't do so well on my Psyc exam, and I just got a rejection letter from UCSF. No returning to the Bay Area for me I guess... if I get into med school that is. If I don't, I'll probably go back.
If things happen in threes, I'm still waiting for the third in each group. I'm thinking bad will be me not doing too well on my econ exam, which I didn't study too much for...

Currently, griping about Psyc has become a favorite past time of mine. That class sucks. Actually, the professor sucks, in my very humble opinion. She's just not too clear obviously, because of the three people I know if that class, all have asked me about this one problem we need to do. Unfortunately, I have no clue either.

Finished reading Order of the Phoenix (finally! Only a month after I started...) I don't know if it's me not reading carefully or if it's the book, but I thought some parts were very vague. I thought the scene with the Veil and the archway was just not really fitting for Sirius.
Overall, not nearly as satisfied with OoP as I was with the others.

Was in Boston today for an interview. Am TIRED! I had to get up at 5:10 because the commuter rail left at 6:19, and I wanted to give myself plenty of time to get there. I thought I left my room at about 5:50 (I even corrected for my clock being 10 mins fast), but I got to the stop at 6.... so either I walk a lot faster than I thought or my clock is even faster than I had realized.
Interview went ok.... except I got lost inside the building. Think very lost. Like I was 5-10 minutes late for my interview lost. I kept going up the wrong set of elevators because I ran into about 5 sets of elevators. Luckily he was understanding.... I think.

Worse part was waiting for the bus coming back. The 3:10 apparently broke down? or was late? or was hijacked by a band of wild hippogriffs? I don't know what happened to it, but it never showed. It was unhappy because my shoes are not made for standing for long periods of time.

Did I mention that I got a suit on Saturday? It makes me feel old.... and worse thing about it is that it's a skirt. Yeah, right, when will I ever choose to wear a skirt? How many people have actually seen me in a skirt in public? (former roommates do not count because PJs are different)

I mean that I no sing good.

Oh Kimeru, why are you taking cues from Atobe on how to do your album cover?

RANT: I bleeped up that stats test.... well not really bleeped up. Just lost a whole lotta points for stupid things. Like I kept forgetting to interpret the results.... which I find pretty pointless and annoying. First, she didn't specify that we had to interpret the results (she did on the last pset....) so I lost 4 out of 50 points on that alone. Then a stupid calculation error. Then me not knowing what the hell she was asking.
I just don't want to try in this class because I don't like her very much. She has this blah attitude about it, like "you all taking this class because you HAVE to, so I don't need to make it good".
I know my attitude towards this class sucks, but it's due to my not liking her..... It's not like I can't do the stuff, but rather she bores the crap out of me. I had completely forgotten about this project due Friday! Thank goodness someone reminded me. ENDRANT
