Those of you who read my posts at InTheShadows or my recent comments at the just-vanished Sensible Erection know my views on Dubya's War. The rest of you, read on:
Dubya is a coward and a deserter (AWOL for 8 months in 72-73 - that's DESERTION). While a unit of my Army battalion (1/5 FA, 1st Inf Div) was being overrun and slaughtered by VietCong, Dubya was hiding out. He is scum. Back then, Colin Powell was busy covering-up the Mai Lai massacre; Dubya's associates and backers were avoiding military service; their children avoid military service. And the justifications presented for attacking Iraq turn out to be all lies. Lies.
Given that the leadership consists of shirkers, chickenhawks and liars, why should the US military follow their orders? Because troops pledge to follow orders, no matter how stupid or criminal.
Why attack Iraq, which poses no conceivable threat to the US? It's not for oil, or revenge, or prophesy - it's about hegemony, building a US base in a central location to threaten Russia, India, China, Europe. It's about imposing 'free-market' corporate cartel capitalism on the entire world. It's about total global domination. Nothing more, nothing less.
Have a nice war.

Just a reminder: this ain't all fun'n'games, kids. Bush's gang wants to commit war crimes, crimes against humanity, killing tens or hundreds of thousands of poor bastards who have the misfortune to live under a regime that Bush's gang had previously supported and supplied and armed. Yeah, Saddam had WMDs (Weapons of Mass Destruction) (nukes) and ADWs (Area Denial Weapons) (biochems) because WE gave'em to him.
So now we're gonna use bunker-busters (nukes) and DU (depleted uranium) armor-piercers and various chemical and incendiary and hyperexplosive weapons on the people of the most repressed state in the MidEast. Look at the pictures on the above site, multiply by a zillion, and be aware: if you're a US citizen, you're letting this happen. Again.

OK, I've done a bit of updating lately, whilst neglecting needful things, but that's how it goes. Was preoccupied until the biopsy report came back: no bad news. Anyway, here's the latest:
* New stuff and improved format for the EatIt! pages (see below)
* Improved format and many new journal entries
* New issue of the Ridge Rat News
* New Restructuring notes and improved formats for many Go! pages, but that's an ongoing project that probably won't be finished for a few weeks - mucho editing to do.
* Review: Ron Thompson plays the Hotel St. George, Volcano Calif.
* Updates to the Guatemala journal, and I set up a newsletter for posting notes and photos while we're traveling.
And I have many photos that I haven't had time to process, nor places to display them online. I'll work on that. And I'm featured in an article in the Riverside Press-Enterprise [free signup needed] although I wish the focus had been more on Harry Oliver than myself. Bother.

THE PORTFOLIO DIET. A new vegetarian diet emphasizing soy and soluble fiber can lower cholesterol
by a surprising one-third. But finicky eaters may balk at its daily helpings of okra, eggplant and Metamucil, among other things. The Portfolio diet, as it's called, involves several trendy nutrients that have been shown separately
to be good for the heart. "Not a very appetizing diet," commented Dr. Sanjay Gupta, "but a diet that works. Researchers are concerned that people may be not able to stick with it." Eat some nice healthy BBQ sawdust too.

A correspondent wrote: "Ive been planning to type out Joaquin Millers 1875 epic poem the Ship in the desert anyway."
I replied: "All 205+ pages? Zowie! Anyway, there's no need to. I googled and found this, which has page images and plaintext of the epic. I haven't clicked on the VIEW TEXT link yet - maybe tonight. I hope this zaves you a bit of work. Or is it a challenge?
Can't live without ExoNews! But spyware is everywhere! And who knows if The End Is Near? But I always knew that L.A. was an inferno!
But enough of that. Last night I learned what deductive logic is. When phoning Guatemala from the USA, just use the access+country codes (011+502) and the 7-digit phone number, do NOT add a city code. And nobody hangs around the dips'n'chips when they're in a remote corner. Gotta remember that...
Well, I just bought, for real real cheap, at Ross, a couple of audio/video synth/mix packages from Magix: dance maker (1999) and music & video maker gen.6 (2001). Now I have to install them (actually I've tried dance maker) and then I have to use them. Watch out... and stay away from Tranvestite Paradise!
I've been busy - finished entering most of the Harry Oliver texts - what's left is either non-Harry or should be OCR'd. (And one of these days I'll index the major articles, maybe. Right.) I explain WHY I'm doing this in HIGH NOONER: Harry Oliver and the Wild West Mythos.
And I put my old River Rat Scrap Books online. And I've created the Ridge Rat News: #1, #2, #2a, #3, and am now working on #4. (All those went into my SkeptiNews log too.) With a little luck (and a bit of work) I'll have a lot of meta-Sierra regional stuff online before too long. All that, after starting planning (and journalizing) the upcoming Guatemala trip. Whew.
As if that ain't enough, I've noticed that my pages don't look so good outside of MicroSoft Internet Explorer (MSIE), so I've started reformatting everything to be tolerable in Mozilla-Netscape browsers. Which don't mean they're OK in the Opera browser -- THAT may require some major design simplification. Which means major thought and work. Ugh. Damn, I've let my stuff get too baroque...
Then I've got to update my journals for the last few months. Then I've got a lot of physical work (reorganization, haulage) around the new house, including: filtering tons of books; building a data network and music studio; hanging guitars. Then I've got some bicycles to maintain. Et cetera, et cetera. And I thought retirement would be easy. Oh well, when that's done I can make music, find books, ride around, whatever.
Now look at the prior entries.
