Sad news, o ye (current & former) (friends & readers) on alt.alien.visitors, alt.conspiracy.area51, alt.paranormal.crop-circles -- my ISP has instituted further anti-SPAM measures, limiting cross posting. The limit had been set at 10 -- as of today, it's just 8. I'm afraid I'll have to let some of you go [and I just said the same thing to my cats...] The SkeptiNews bulletins will continue to be produced, and they'll be available on the following NGs:

alt.paranet.skeptic, alt.paranet.ufo, sci.skeptic, alt.alien.research, alt.mindcontrol, alt.ufo.reports, alt.slack, alt.usenet.kooks

As always, the bulletins, log and archives are available online. SeptiNews can also be emailed to you, along with commentary you're welcome to join -- subscribe to SkeptiChat, either regular or digest version. See below.

    a churnin' urn of burnin' funk Monday, April 10, 2000 08:25 p.m.

A backpack (external/parallel) CDRW burner is a wondrous, magical device, and like all magic it requires the proper incantations. Hocus pocus. Sometimes the spell turns dung into gold; sometimes it's vice-versa. Abracadabra. Ah, another learning experience...

    It's not my fault Saturday, April 8, 2000 11:46 p.m.

I'm sorry all those hundreds of emails that were sent out this morning were infected with a nasty virus. Really. Is my face red...

    FEEDBACK PLEASE! Thursday, April 6, 2000 01:17 p.m.

Is anybody actually seeing this? [Guess I'd better add a hit counter...] What do you think of the layout of the bulletins in email and newsgroups; the bulletins and log and links as displayed on the Web; this whole SkeptiThang? How do these websites look on your browser [assuming you're using something other than MSIE4/5]?? Gimmee strokes...

rolling across the years Wednesday, April 5, 2000 11:40 p.m.

Get up early; produce three bulletins; drive 400 miles; come back home, shave off a full beard; it's been a busy day.

    Say what? Tuesday, April 4, 2000 08:17 p.m.

    Who Hates Bill?
    • WINE WITH PEANUTS: "Sonoma County votes to change the name of its airport to the Charles M. Schultz Airport, in honor of the late cartoonist." Peanuts International Airport, Santa Rosa CA, just down the road from here. Sheesh.
[More on Schultz at the bottom the first log page.]
    • Want to know where someone is buried? Try FindAGrave.Com. Want to make sure they're really buried there? That's your problem.
    • I got all excited when I saw a page of Geezers From Hell maps but then I found they were for a game. Sheesh.
    • Then I found this nice map of the Hotter'N'Hell Hundred, and I just may try that, one of these years...
    • Wheel, Reinvented - "Cycling shifts into high gear." But those are all Neanderthal Wedgies - get 'BENT!

There goes another one... Monday, April 3, 2000 09:20 p.m.

Sprawl crawls up next to monument. The Casa Grande ruins are about to be swallowed by shopping centers, suburbs and/or a Federal prison. Bother. Is Area51 next?

    another hot day Sunday, April 2, 2000 09:53 p.m.

    • Fred's new Site: quality photography, professional site.
    • But he's yet to be found with a Google or Yahoo search. Better work on that, Fred.
    • Woops - I don't want to forget John's page -- nice trucks -- although I must admit that my own Fords are a little newer, if not quite so charismatic.
    • Some of the best American Indian music of the last century is available at Indian House Records.
    • Steve Getzwiller is helping restore traditional materials [ie Churro sheep/wool] to Navajo weavers, and is marketing their work.
    • Dulce, New Mexico, in the Jicarilla Apache nation, is known for secret alien/govt projects as well as the usual Indian stuff. Zow.
    • Some people make a big deal of Hopi prophesies. Other people move along with life.

    rubble without a cause Saturday, April 1, 2000 09:31 p.m.

Went to San Francisco today, to Chinatown / North Beach, to buy stuff. Didn't find it; saved lotsa money. Spent it elsewhere. Such is life. No UFOs / alien abductions / Yetis / Illuminati observed. Conspiracies everywhere, though. Hot hot hot day -- 85 in SF, 97 in Petaluma, no April Fools's about it. This is spring? Alien weather-modification porgram is obviously effective. I had no energy / time to search Web, find nifty sites, dazzle y'all. Tomorrow...

    XOOM away Friday, March 31, 2000 10:09 a.m.

Correction to last-night's PS -- XOOM seems to be back up, the archives are updated and available. But XOOM is still a slow pig, and I'll see about moving the arcs to a faster site, probably over the weekend. Gotta do a better subscription page too... and re-work the navbar... and de-jaggy the OTRSS logo... and... and...

Reminder: if you're not receiving the bulletins you're expecting, your subscription may be having mail problems. See the NOTICES & EXCUSES sidebar [on the left, here] and see if your address is posted. G'luck.

    I can hear music Thursday, March 30, 2000 07:42 p.m.

    Ancient Roman Erotica

Damn, it's a gorgeous day today! It's so nice out, I think I'll leave it out. Metaphorically speaking, of course. Maybe. Singin' in the sunshine...

Later: Whew. Had the first long bike ride this spring on the 'bent, the bridge-to-bridge loop around the Russian River Valley -- wore myself out, think I'll crash now. [zzz... thud]

Unhappy PS: the XOOM system seems to have crashed -- I tried updating the archives yesterday, with no luck, and it's still down tonight. I guess it's time to move the archives to another free site. Ah well, XOOM was a slow pig anyway. Good riddance.

OK, the changeover went pretty well. No more surprises right away. I hope. happy hacking

NEEDING ALL THE HELP WE CAN GET:

    • Build A Genesis Machine - terraform alien planets for fun and profit. Or for survival. How long can you tread vacuum? A biggish comet/meteor/asteroid WILL eventually smash Earth's biosphere, y'know. Better get ready. Let fractal robots do all the hard work.
    • And check out all the other fun things you can do with Fractal Robots.
    • Has a knowledge machine terraformed your brain/planet/universe yet? Did you notice?
    • Maybe you should just become a Spiritual Cyborg. Or at least simulate the experience.
    • Who'll use smallpox to terraform Earth to their liking?
    • Everyone could use some Goddess Helpers to work out their problems. Like intercepting asteroids.
    • And maybe the Goddess Helpers could relieve you of Post-Punk Nazi Guilt Syndrome. Or maybe not. Some transformations may just be too difficult...

Home From The Hunt Monday, March 27, 2000 06:09 p.m.

    SMARTER, SHARPER KNIVES!!

Cutting to the heart of matters... I'm back from the hunt, with much to report. Journal entries are linked below. Also, there will be a major [but mostly transparent] change to the structure of all this SkeptiStuff, with more appropriate naming. These log entries will move to SkeptiLog.Pitas.Com; the links will all live on the connexions page, SkeptiCon.Pitas.Com; archiving listings will get complexified, but the common archive page [currently at Xoom] will allow for easy retrieval. Relax. Give me a day to get it all worked out. And I should resume producing bulletins by tomorrow [Tuesday].
