Sick, so very sick
Monday, January 31, 2005
I have been very sick since Friday, thanks to someone who shall remain nameless gave it to me.
Was scheduled to have brunch with the usual gang on Saturday, because my sickness it's been rescheduled for this Saturday. Hopefully I will be better by then.
Which I'm, except I have no voice. I sound like an old man who smoked way too much cigars. And my throat hurts so badly.
Last night I even burned up a fever of 103, and with all the coughing and hacking I did not sleep well at all. All Saturday and Sunday I was dosing on and off on the sofa. That someone
who shall remain nameless decided to take a sickday so he can take care of me.
It isn't fun to be sick. I havent been this sick for a long, long time.
I'm off take a very, very hot shower and drink hot chocolate that someone who shall remain nameless made for me. :)

Debbie Gibson, your glory days were over a long long time ago. No one wants to see you naked in playboy. At least I don't. Eww.

17% are more weird,
6% are just as weird, and
76% are more normal than you!

That's what I thought.
49% scored higher (more nerdy), and
51% scored lower (less nerdy).
What does this mean? Your nerdiness is:
Somewhat nerdy. I mean face it, you are nerdier than about half the test takers.

Weather is totally whacked. There are snowstorms in the east coast and mid-west, but here in L.A. we are having 75 degree weather.

After John went to Lowe's and got a electic lawn mower this morning, we suited up and headed to our local Social
Security office. The hospital where I gave birth to Amber was supposed to apply her SS# for her, but
as of today we have not received it. (probably lost in mail)
We got to the office, the girl behind the counter told us that it was indeed processed, since we still
have not received it, we needed to get a replacement card. But we didn't have A's health insurance card with us, which identified
who she is, (how I have no idea of) we couldn't apply it then. She told us as long as we have the card, or her birth certificate we were able to re-apply one.
Ok, fine. Whatever. So we headed to the registar office to get her birth certificate, since we needed to get one for her anyway. That took surprisingly very little time, we got the certificate
on the spot after paying $ 18 for it.
We headed back to the SS office. A different person served us on trip #2. "No sorry, you needed the health card. A birth certificate alone
is no good." WTF? "It wasn't what the other person told us." "Sorry, you need 3 forms of ID to apply SS#." Fine then, you piece of shit govn't agency.
We went home, got her card, and John headed back to the office by himself. (trip #3) Finally he was able to apply for a replacement card with
the new document.
Typical, fucking govn't agency.

John is off today due to Martin Luther King Jr. day. In the morning, while I was feeding A., John took down the Christmas tree and put away all the decorations. Compare to last year that we didn’t put away Christmas stuff until March, this year was a really speedy process.

After we cleaned away the living room. We decided to hit Chinatown via the Gold line, which is the new train line opened the year before. I have been living in L.A. since 1992, not mention all those times I past through Chinatown to/from work, today was the first time I actually strolled around Chinatown. It was also the first time we took the Gold line. Since today is a holiday (for some people), there are a lot of parents and kids on the train. And of course JE loved taking the train.
When we got to Chinatown, we immediately found a restaurant to eat, considered both JE and I were really hungry. After lunch, we went to the different hide-away markets. You can bye anything for a very little price. I got both JE and A. a traditional Chinese outfit. JE looks so cute in it.
We had a really good time, except the weather was bloddy hot. |

Back in Sept. last year I took an exam for a job for the city of L.A. Last week I finally received the score, I got 88. I am a bit disappointed, 2 more points I would have a better chance to get picked up by the city. When John got home that night, he told me only 35% past among the 15000 who took the exam. 15000 people took the exam? Unbelieveable! Anyway that made me felt a bit better. And according to the score sheet, only 53 people have a higher score than me. 53 might sound like a lot, but consider how many departments at in the city, it isn't that much.
Even though my score is in a higher precentage, the timing sucks. We are contemplating wheather for me to go back to work or not after my maternity leave ends. (Yes, I'm still on maternity leave, thanks to California's new law: Paid Family Leave.) On one side, a city job is great. If I can get it, it's pretty much set for life. On the other hand JE starts kinder in Sept this year, he will only be there for a couple of hours each day. (OMG, HE IS STARTING KINDER!)
What to do, what to do?

Where is my package?
Thursday, January 6, 2005
Last night I was checking the status of a package I ordered from Overstock on UPS, it said that they have left the package at the front door the day before. But there was no package at my door. I would not have been checking the status if it were. I figured they must have left at my neighbor’s, because they have the same street number, but different unit number. So at midnight, and it was bloody cold, I went to my neighbor’s front door like a thief and lord and behold, there was my package lying at their door step. My neighbor never uses their front door, so the package has been left there for a day without them noticing it.
First I was really mad that UPS delivered to the wrong address, then I noticed actually overstock addressed it wrong. I was all ready to give shit to UPS first thing in the morning. It’s all good now that I have package safe and sound here.
Have I mentioned how much I enjoy cooking now? I found a lot of simple receipes on All Recipes that I have been experimenting with. Of course John loves it that he comes home with home cooking meals waiting for him.
