Monday, April 30, 2001 11:33 p.m. anthony michael hall says "will you pay my bills, will you pay my automobills...?" Tuesday, April 17, 2001 03:06 p.m. i saw bob newhart today at staples. rock. Sunday, April 15, 2001 05:37 p.m. i'm such a fucking procrastinator. the only reason i'm updating right now is because i don't want to write my history essay. new deal, schmoo deal, i say. i got some new stuff this morning at aron's records including the new things at the left that i'm going to link right now like the guided by voices lp and the pattern 7". both are excellent after a second listen. yesterday nat and i watched wonder boys and the contender. both were good, but wonder boys especially. i can not believe that it was so overlooked at the oscars. all of the actors were good in it. i used to really hate michael douglas so much, but seeing him in this and traffic have totally changed my opinion about him. Saturday, April 14, 2001 12:29 p.m. i hung out with some friends from work last night. actually, everyone at my office, but our boss and the grandmother who used to run the place. we went out because binti, who works there, is leaving for the jungles of borneo in indonesia to hang out with orangutans for a month. i'd really like to go there, but i do not envy the steady diet of rice and sardines he's going to endure for every single meal while he's there, however. the night before last, nat and i went went to the smell in l.a. to see the nightmare syndicate and heart of snow. the smell has to be the loudest club i've ever been to. my ears were killing me afterwards. the nightmare syndicate's new songs are good and they seemed tighter than the last time i saw them. it's unfortunate that the other bands didn't have enough courtesy to stay and watch them. we left before the chandeliers played because it just got way too late and i had to work in the morning, but we got to see heart of snow who are really good live. they had this great movie footage projected behind them throughout the show. this crocodile dundee in los angeles movie is a big joke right? i mean, i must be correct in thinking it wasn't really made and i'm not seeing commercials for it on tv right now because there's just no way people are seriously still mystified by people from australia like they were in the early 80's when the first two awful movies were made. Monday, April 9, 2001 11:27 p.m. my new addiction. Saturday, April 7, 2001 02:01 p.m. i really haven't updated in a while. i've been too busy with school and i barely have time to be on the computer anymore, and when i do, i don't feel like writing. the funeral a few weeks ago was a beautiful service with all of lucian's friends and family taking a little hike up to a spot on mt. tamalpias where he used to like to go. everyone shared a story or something about him and it was nice. i'm glad natolee was there with me. the next day we hung out with dan in berkeley for a few hours and dan's snake that he keeps in the living room got out of its cage and tried to eat us. tomorrow is passover and my roommate is having people over for a seder and natolee and i are cooking some vegetarian stuff for us to eat tomorrow. my boss is jewish and he was telling someone at work that he was taking the day off yesterday to get ready for passover and stuff and then he mentioned to him that "you have to have faith in something." i wasn't there, but another person heard it and it became this big argument where two employees were arguing with my boss about religion. he actually asked them, "where do you get your morality from if you're not religious?" grr, people make me mad. so all atheists are immoral? i wish i had been there, three atheists arguing with my boss. i hate when people think that you can't separate morality from religion. they are so completely different. i do think that morality should be taught in school, but not in conjunction with religion. last weekend we went with a couple of my friends to the la county museum. they had an exhibit with all these original japanese woodblock prints. i think the series entitled thirty-six views of mount fuji was my favorite. there was also a collection of art from women from the german expressionist movement. the exhibit, strangely enough, had more male than female artists from that movement, but it was so great to see everything. there was a painting called the murder and i can't remember who did it. i asked my art history teacher about it and it didn't sound familiar to her. grr. like i said in my last entry, go see memento. it's really an interesting movie. maybe on my break this week i'll get to catch up on some of the movies i've missed while being in school, but probably not. i still need to see pollock, blow, crouching tiger, josie and the pussycats (kidding?), and probably many others that i'm forgetting. we finally watched my dancer in the dark dvd and i cried like a baby. natolee's a robot and didn't. widows and orphans are playing with a drummer this week, woo-hoo. success is only some voice lessons, many, many practices, a bass player, a new cabinet, and courage to play shows away. everyone should go support the nightmare syndicate and go to their show at the smell on thursday. Friday, April 6, 2001 11:18 a.m. fear not comrades, i will update soon. in the meantime, go see memento. |
