Futurist Manifestoes
I haven't plowed through them yet, but I'm glad they are out there. I found them via www.lemonyellow.com - which seems to be a decent weblog... if not a bit self-conscious.

Lettrist Pages
I've always been interested in Lettrism, but I have never seen an actual Lettrist work. So in that sense this site is great. On the other hand, I have to say that finally seeing the works was a bit anticlimactic. Still, it's cool that a site like this is out there. But I can only wonder about someone who is trying to continue in the Lettrist tradition.

Angus Maclise and Ira Cohen
A nice sample of their poetry and art.

Public Shelter
This is more like what I was looking for as far as Civil Defense info goes. There is even a CD-ROM available - although a bit pricey.

Duck and Cover!
A decent collection of Civil Defense memorabilia, although a lot of the pictures suspiciously look like they were lifted off of Ebay auctions. Still, there's a lot of cool stuff to look at. I wish I could find a recipe for survival biscuits.

brief Bebe Barron bio
Who composed the soundtrack to "Forbidden Planet" with her husband Louis Barron. Included is a list of other works.

Oystron
I can't believe that people are making new games for the Atari 2600 game system. Oystron is just one example of several that have been made in the past few years.

The Peach Seed
This site is beyond cool - an ancient Chinese secret in spades. You need the Flash plug-in to see it, but it is more than worth it.

Atari Historical Society
I wouldn't say that the Atari 2600 was my favorite video game system as a kid, but it is definitely one of those cultural archetype type of things. The best part of this site is some of the more esoteric things that Atari was working on - such as a holographic game system and a game controller that worked on biofeedback.

Blue Sky Rangers
These were the guys that programmed Mattel's Intellivision in the 1980's. I always hated that fact that the Intellivision controller flattened my thumb after awhile, but it was still fun. And the games were a little more sophisticated... intelligent... than a lot of Atari games. The site has a lot of interesting facts and tidbits about Intellivision history, along with unique merchandise.

Takeshi
I have no idea what this site is about, but it's fun in a surreal japanese kind of way. I found it through the sukora site mentioned below.

Gallery of Regrettable Food
It's an old favorite of mine, but it's been ages since I have visited it. A great site - anything that features a book called "Meat and Romance" has got to be cool.

Sukora
I was trying to find a website for the Meme label when I came across this page. I don't know if it is the same Sukora who released "Tower" on Meme, but he does have a lot of cool links on his page.

More Maya Deren
A pretty decent site - featuring a biography and rough analysis of her films... good photos.

Emanate Label
For some reason I ignored the last two releases when I heard about them, but I keep reading good reviews and have decided to check them out.

Contemporary ASCII
Great uses of ASCII that go beyond pictures of dragons and garbage like that. The ASCII music videos are probably the coolest, but the ASCII version of films show promise.

Interview with Alejandro Jodorowsky
The things he says seem more interesting than his films:

"For example, when I speak about chakras, it is poetic. You must create these centers in the body because they are abstract. In reality I have no flowers in my body. I must invent this, make poetry. The level of this exercise is visualization. In visualization you put in your head a letter. Then you become the letter with all your body. And if your complete mind is a letter then tomorrow you can be a tiger, a man, an angel. You can be plastic."

Maya Deren in Haiti
This is essentially htmlized excerpts of her book "Divine Horsemen", but it is really well done - with lots of still from her film footage. I don't have a whole lot of patience when it comes to reading a lot of text on the web, but stuff like this makes it a little more palatable.

The Cooler tomorrow night
this weekend is turning out to be pretty action packed in NY. Along with the PS1 show, Mika from Pan Sonic will also be playing at the Cooler with DJ Aura from the Schematic label. Then there is another show at Tonic on Sunday night with Pita, Jim O'Rourke and Pansonic. Hooray - I'll be up there!

photos of Funkstoerung
They performed in Baltimore, MD on July 22nd. As they were doing their work, they kept leaning over and messing with the others mixing boards and such. It was funny. When I wasn't sitting on a couch in the back, I was right behind the photographer as he took these photos. Alas, my aura didn't seem to show up in the pictures.
