It's nice that it's the mid semester break because I finally got some room to breathe.

Mid semester break is here! No school for the next 5 days! Woot woot!

Yesterday was the seventh day of the lunar new year and I think it was everyone's birthday in the chinese calendar so we went over to my Aunt's house to loh hei and have dinner! At 9pm, we saw the fireworks at the River HongBao from my aunt's place and it was really beautiful against the skyline of Singapore! I left slightly earlier and accompanied E to one of his social gatherings. I was so bored and in between sips of wine, I kept on asking him when we could go. Haha. We only got home around 12.30am and I was so exhausted!

My Uncle announced yesterday at dinner that he's moving his whole family to Canada for 3 years because he's going to study theology! No wonder my mum asked me to apply to a canadian university for my exchange! I'm going to miss my cousins so much especially Maegan because we're both really the same. Maegan used to come over to our house everyday when she was much younger because my Aunt was working and so my maid was taking care of her! Everyone says she looks like me when I was younger and we're both from SCGS and we both have the same kind of attitude about school. Haha.

I was back in school the whole day yesterday for the business competition and we didn't win but one of the judges came up to us and told us he thinks our business plan is very feasible and we should look into ways to get it started! I think the case study round might have pulled us down but I don't think anyone of us is sore about it because it was really good exposure for the four of us and we're now thinking of ways to get started with our business! I'm also glad I got a real great team for this competition because it really makes a difference and it's nice working hard together for the competition and having fun at the same time.

The boyfriend walked into my room yesterday afternoon and when I went to the kitchen to get him a glass of water, I came back finding a flower on my table! :) It really caught me by surprise because it wasn't any special occasion and the boyfriend is not really in the habit of buying flowers but it made my day! Thank you darling, you certainly have a way with surprises!

I'm really tired. I don't think I've ever worked myself so hard like this before. Yesterday after marketing lecture, the 3 guys and 1 girl stayed back till 8pm in school doing our business plan and case study. We still got a lot of loose ends to tie up and this is starting to wear me out. I think the 3 guys are also very tired and they are also sleeping very late because I see emails from them streaming in at 4.50am! Lazarus must have been really tired yesterday because we were discussing some 3 pronged approach solution when he started typing "3-Thong approach". Haha, that really woke us all up and gave us a good laugh because we remembered his Singtel presentation where he made another boo boo and went "Singtel shot a rocket up into the sky recently". Haha. It's supposed to be a satellite. Haha.

Met the boyfriend for some together time and dinner at Newton after I got home because I simply couldn't do anything productive after our meeting. I'm glad I went out for a little while because it took my mind off things and he keeps me sane.

My marketing tutor keeps on telling us that love, marriage and sex are 3 separate issues. Therefore, you can love a person but not marry him or have sex with him. I don't quite agree with him on that. Besides, I think he's very jaded about marriage because he always complains about his wife and how she's a real lion and he's paying the price for it. I like to think that if you love a person, you'll want to eventually marry him and after marriage comes the sex. So it's more like one issue leads to another and it should only involve one other person. But he argues back and tells me I'm idealistic and I'm not a guy and I've never been married so I don't know anything. Ha.

On the third day of the lunar new year, 3 guys and 1 girl camped out in one of the study rooms in SMU from 11.30am till 8pm developing a business plan and coming up with solutions for a case study! Unbelieveable! I'm completely brain dead and washed out. This week is pure madness. I have a writing assignment due tomorrow, a marketing presentation tomorrow, endless project meetings, a case study due on Friday, a business plan proposal and a competition on Saturday. It doesn't make things any better when I feel like I'm not getting any support and I'm feeling terribly lousy about myself.

What do I have, what can I do, how much have I achieved? Nothing.

First day of visiting today and oh my mama, I am exhausted! Pastor Malcolm delivered a rather funny but powerful message this morning and he talked about the proverbs, prohibitions and warnings related to or surrounding the pig in the bible and drew out applications for us! After church, we visited my 2 grandmothers, had lunch with my dad's family at his granduncle's place, moved on to my great grandmother's house where my mum's entire family congregates and I get to see my cousins before we ended off with dinner at my other grandmother's house. I drank about 8 cans of soft drinks and ate so much that I think my stomach's going to burst. I also did all the driving today and Dad hardly complained so I am quite proud of myself! Haha. I'm going to sleep soon because it's going to be another long day tomorrow and I'm also very very tired.

Reunion dinner at my grandma's place this evening! I haven't seen my grandmother in a long time because I've been skipping the weekly sunday night dinners and I realize she's lost quite a fair bit of weight! I gave her a big hug and I felt her bones! After dinner, Dad brought us down to Chinatown to walk around, soak in the festivities and buy some goodies! We came home quite early because Chinatown was really packed and stuffy but I suspect it's because Arsenal was playing against Blackburn and Dad wanted to catch a bit of the match. Haha. Church early tomorrow morning before we spend the day visiting the relatives!

Yesterday night after cell, the boyfriend and I went down to McDonalds for a quick bite and he unleashed his creative side so I got a fish and a heart made from chili sauce! The heart's shape isn't that perfect but the fish looks really real!

Older girls cell this morning at my place and today we talked about slavery. I was supposed to follow E shopping after my cell but he had to be home for lunch so he went on his own. When I checked up on him after cell, I found out that he already bought his shoes! Apparently, he walked into the store, saw a pair of shoes, tried on one side and liked it so he told the lady to get him a new pair, paid $99 for it and walked out of the store in less than 5 minutes! Unbelievable. He'll definitely win the "fastest shopper" award. Haha. Now you believe me when I say he can't stay longer than 5 minutes in a store before his mind starts to wander and he gets cranky! Haha.

Chocolates from the boyfriend for Valentine's day! He couldn't get flowers so he had to substitute it with a rose looking chocolate. Haha. My HR mid terms ended early on Wednesday so E came and pick me up and we bought our usual seafood basket and fish&chips from Greenwood Fish Market back to his place for dinner and watched tv. I like it this way. He told me that he originally wanted to get me my red handbag but there was only the display piece left so he thought of the other handbag I wanted from Topshop but he couldn't remember how it looked like so he had to settle for chocolates. Haha. For the boyfriend to walk into a store and try to search for my handbag is a pretty amazing feat because somehow he always gets 'sick' when he walks near a shop so I am very proud of him! Haha.

School was really long yesterday and I think I am like some lost animal in control and risk management class as well as marketing. After marketing lecture, I had a marketing project meeting till 6.30pm. We're presenting the case next Wednesday and effectively, yesterday was the last time we could meet to discuss but somehow 2 people couldn't make it. I think it turned out to be quite a good discussion between Lionel and myself and I sure hope we're on the right track! I strongly believe that face to face project meetings is the most effective and the best. Seriously.

Had BSF at night and the lesson was quite interesting because we talked about knowing the difference between right and wrong and also judging others. But the lecture was really long so I started to drift off towards the end. Met Bee Hui and Colin for supper and chit chat at Lau Pau Sat after BSF. It was quite a nice way to chill out after the long week. Next week is going to be some killer week as well but at least I don't have to go to school today because it's Friday and I don't have any more lessons on Friday so yay! It's a nice start to the long chinese new year weekend!

Tuesday, February 13, 2007 08:36 p.m.

We got into the finals! :) Woot woot! Now, we need to develop a business plan and on the day of the competition, analyze a case within 3 hours, present it and hopefully wow the panel of judges to win! It sounds exciting but it's quite pressurizing and I don't think it's going to be easy. Well, whatever the outcome, at least we're in the finals!

I so badly want to drive over to the boyfriend's house right now and crash into his arms but I've got HR mid terms tomorrow and I still got 200pages of readings to cover!

Sunday, February 11, 2007 11:49 p.m.

It just hit me hard that I'm 5 weeks behind all my readings.

Saturday, February 10, 2007 09:38 a.m.

I have yet to receive any approval for my overseas courses and honestly, I'm starting to panic big time. The dateline's tonight and I'm in one big mess because I haven't written the essay (I don't know what to write), my courses aren't approved and I don't know what my chances are. Augh.

This application is really taking too much of my time. For the past one and a half weeks, I've been stuck on this. A few weeks back, I spent about a week or so writing my resumes and coverletters and applying to various organizations for internships. There's too much of this kind of non-academic stuff going on in school and it's just taking up all my studying time. I am 5 weeks behind schedule. I don't know what's going on in school and I haven't been doing any of my readings and it's eating me. Augh augh augh.

Well, yesterday, being the fifth friday since school started meant that it was the last lesson of career foundations! Yay! From next week onwards, I don't have to go back to school on Friday! It also means I don't have to wear stiff business shirts and black skirts on Fridays! Yay! The last lesson yesterday was actually quite fun because she called groups of us up to critique our dressing and all. Haha. I completely forgot to wear stockings! But it was still quite fun because everyone was laughing at everyone. Haha. E came to pick me up so after lunch, we came back to my place before he went for cell in the evening! We went to Borders after his cell but I couldn't decide which books to get! It's always the case when I go to Borders. Well, today is going to be a long and busy day and I don't feel like starting my day because I just want to sleep in and get approval for my courses!

Wednesday, February 7, 2007 10:48 p.m.

I noticed an exchange student at the HR lecture today. She stood out because of her blond hair and she sat alone in the 4th row. I didn't notice her talking to anyone and I wonder if she found the lecture interesting. Was she bored? Did she feel weird in a sea of yellow skin people? Was she upset that no Singaporean was taking the initative to smile and talk to her or include her in their conversations? Why did she choose to do her exchange in Singapore? Does she like the university? What's her impression so far? Does she have many friends here? Does she miss home? Have she explored Singapore and South East Asia yet?

Sometimes I think about the prospects of going overseas for one semester and I get scared. What if I have no friends? What if I get discriminated or my flat gets broken into and I lose my valuables? What if I can't live on my own and do my own laundry? What if the natives think I speak weirdly and I am some alien from some small island? What if they can't understand me? What if I don't know how to travel around? I think going away on an exchange can be quite exciting yet scary at the same time. Exchange applications just started and it's quite a pain really. Spending hours researching on schools and trying to match courses, writing essays, talking to friends, e-mailing exchange co-ordinators and applying the concepts of game theory is seriously no joke. Right now, everything's really uncertain and I don't know whether I want to go or where I'll go because there are so many other considerations. But one thing for sure, I'm praying about it and asking the Lord to open and close the doors according to His will. I think I want nothing more than to walk in the center of His will and where He leads, I want to follow obediently.

My Aunt's 50th birthday at The Shang at Shangri-La on Saturday evening! I think it's becoming a tradition in my mum's family that everytime any of her siblings hit 50, we have dinner at Shangri-La. Mum's 50th was at The Line and actually all my cousins wanted to head back there for Saturday's dinner because we wanted the dessert counter and the chocolate fountain but the parents overruled us because they wanted to try the shark cartilage soup. Dinner was some 9 course chinese meal, we had this absolutely out-of-this-world 1953 champagne and after the cake was cut, we went back to my Aunt's house for more wine, ice cream and family time!

Pastor Malcolm delivered a really excellent sermon on Sunday on Psalms 34 and he talked about the 5 different fears that the psalmist faced and how we, like the psalmist, have those fears too and what we can do about it! After service, the usual group of us had lunch at cafe daily bread before E and myself went shopping to get him a tie. He refused to let me get this gorgeous red handbag because it had this padlock on it and he said it was useless since it was only for show and how it makes my bag so heavy and he'll have to end up carrying it for me. Haha. I've been thinking about it for the past 2 days so I'm going to ignore what he said and just go get it. Hopefully it's still around!

Dinner at his place and then we watched the finals of the Singapore-Thailand match! The game was quite fast paced in the beginning but I think the players don't have the stamina of the english premier league players. I guess it was somewhat a blessing they didn't go into extra time because the players were really shaged! I don't understand why the newspapers and all are hailing the soccer team as heros when the deciding goal was a complete fluke! I agree that they're champions but heros? Anyway, it's good they won and at least now we can boast that we're the best socccer team in South East Asia!

Yesterday was a really long day and I had a business communications and marketing presentation. I think I really screwed up the business communications presentation. Feeling really upset about it and I really don't want to know what I'll get. I'm glad I don't have any more presentations until after Chinese New Year!

After school, I trained down to meet E at his place. I didn't have my ipod with me so I started looking around and it was a a really nice feeling as the train passed through the new towns like Choa Chu Kang and Bukit Gombak and I saw people down below at the town center carrying supermarket shopping bags or walking with their grandchildren. As the train moved from one station to another, you see stadiums, swimming pools and plenty of these newly built flats with bay windows, playgrounds and small plots of garden and all at the bottom of the flats! We bought chicken rice back home, watched tv for 3 hours straight before I came home. I'm back early today and I'm glad because I'm really tired so I need to take my nap right now!

Saturday, February 3, 2007 05:48 p.m.

Why do I even bother?

Friday, February 2, 2007 12:29 a.m.

My boyfriend is not only a mummy's boy, he's also an aunty killer! Haha. He is officially in my mum's good books now! Yesterday afternoon, he came over and in the evening, my mum came back from Bangkok and so she asked him to send her to church later since he was going for his baptism&membership class. The boyfriend sends her to church, starts asking her about her work and her trip and instead of just stopping right there and letting silence dominate, he proceeds on to solicit her opinions about him taking up a second major and whether he should pursue it and which second major he should take and all. According to E, they were having such a wonderful conversation and the next thing he knew, they were in church already. Haha. Anyway, after his class, he messaged my mum and wanted to send her to Melvin's house because she was going over and Melvin's house is on his way back home but my mum wasn't done yet. Haha. E was obviously very upset because he had one less chance to suck up and "aunty-kill". Haha.

When mum came home after her meeting, she started singing his praises! Haha. She kept going on about how E is so nice, that he is so hardworking, so ambitious, so good and went boasting to my dad that E sent her to church. My dad, obviously not quite a huge fan of E, went "Who's E?" Mum and I just burst out laughing. Haha.

Anyway, my control&risk management project group went to interview my uncle this afternoon for our project! I think it was quite a successful information gathering trip and I'm glad I have one sane hardworking group! My teammate from my business communications class is equally good but he thinks I'm some man-eater. Haha. He said I just threw him off finding a girlfriend and getting married. Haha. Went for BSF in the evening and I realize that one of my discussion group mates in NUS law, used to be taught by my dad at the BSF Bishan (children&youth)! She was saying I looked super familar and was telling me her dad is at BSF Bishan Men's too and so he should know my dad and somehow when we walked out of the church after class, we saw our Dads talking to one another. Turns out they are friends! It was such a coincidence and really, what a small world!
