Friday, July 30, 2004 08:51 p.m. Death. Death has this funny way of creeping up on you to steal a loved one, all so suddenly, when you least expect it. Why Lord? Why?Tuesday, July 27, 2004 08:50 p.m. Take the big "I" out the eye and replace it with Jesus.Monday, July 26, 2004 03:10 p.m. Went for ShineForth yesterday. Did anyone noticed the keyboardist? He's slightly not so young but he reminded me of 2 things. 1) Young or old, everyone can play in a worship band. There's no doubt you should be called to do worship or play and that you should at least know how to play your instrument properly etc etc but, it doesn't matter if you're the youngest among 50 year olds doing worship or you're the old one among 13 year olds leading worship. Leading the congregation in worship does not depend on your age. 2) Worship is a happy thing. I remember Dan used to say "why is everyone so glum on a sunday morning?" Excatly! why are we always so glum when we're worshipping? I noticed that the keyboardist, while he was playing, he was smiling and singing! you could just tell he was so happy playing and worshipping! Besides, going to the house of the Lord should be a happy thing right? If we can wake up at 7 for school, 5 days a week, why can't we wake up at 7.30AM once a week to attend church? It's a nice nice reminder that going to church and doing God's work is a happy and joyous thing. It should not be a burden at all. Daddy brought me to Boat Quay with my cousin yesterday for a River Boat ride. (laugh at me) I don't know why also. it's not as if my cousin is not a local. haha. the boat ride was rather enjoyable, just really bumpy and it brought us along the Singapore river. went for tea later at clarke quay.Friday, July 23, 2004 03:31 p.m. My mom makes the BEST vegetable soup! it's broccoli, onions, carrots, leek and potatoes and a little bit of cheese all blended together! it might look disgusting because it's a mix of green and orange but it's so yummy! the minute you dip your spoon in it, you'll be asking for more! yummy! yummy! yummy! :)Thursday, July 22, 2004 06:40 p.m. There's so much work to do and exams to study for. and it doesn't make things easier that some people have such extreme childish behavior. It's getting tough.Monday, July 19, 2004 09:42 p.m. In my bid to complete 80 community hours by 31st july, I am volunteering my services at library@orchard starting from today till wednesday (4-7PM) and saturday morning (10-1). please come and visit me and feel free to pick up a book or two. BUT if you dare put your book back at the wrong spot, i'm going to knock you down with my huge metal cart filled with books! Anyway, i'm really tired from shelving books and pushing this heavy cart around. Thank God for nice Singaporeans at the library. nonetheless, it's still enjoyable. managed to read all those trashy magazines like Hello!, people, entertainment weekly, instyle, archie's etc. it's really quiet and cold. I'm glad Claire's joining me tomorrow evening. The whole weekend was absolutely fabulousss! :) went for the NE show at the national stadium on saturday. the primary 5 kids were too enthusiastic! haha. seriously, everybit of the national day parade is pure propaganda starting from the pre-parade songs to the parachuters banners on total defense. haha, and there was this segment where a local artiste (i think) rapped the "Home" song. omg, we all burst out laughing. it just didn't sound right! the mass performances weren't that impressive but still i had fun figuring out how to put battries in my plastic nokia handphone torch, waving my flag, beating my mini drum set and screaming whenever fireworks erupted and commandos scaled down the grandstand and not forgetting wearing my red top! it does really increase my patriotism! haha. all of a sudden, my pride for my country swells! it was good fun! headed off for dinner with the guys at Macdonalds. Sunday. After church, daddy brought us to Great World City to look around at Zara and to go to that christian bookstore. Zara was disappointing. they claim it's the biggest store. i think it's only big in terms of floor area. what they have is what liat towers or takashimaya has except they have more stock. range wise, it's all the same. the bookstore was huge though. i want to go back there again! Came home and packed to go off to Sentosa with the girlies. ate at the delifrance by Siloso beach and hanged out at the beach talking, reading, swimming and taking lots of photos. 80% of the people hanging out at Siloso beach were way too cool. they wore oakleys, spotted a tan and a 6-pack, carried tanning oil with no SPF protection (GASP!) and played beach volleyball. in contrast, we girls were really slack and we were majorly slapping on sunblock with SPF 45! haha. wanted to paint our toenails but figured out that the sand would fly onto our semi-painted nails and we wouldn't have a smooth nail surface. haha! I had fun! lots of fun doing nothing but spending time with them! Thank you for the day out! went to watch the musical fountain afterwards and headed off to Chomp Chomp for dinner! I think i still prefer Newton. it's bigger, airer and definitely has a much wider variety of food! got home at only around 10.45PM only to realize that school's starting again and my weekend's over. I'm really exhausted. need to sleep early tonight. Friday, July 16, 2004 10:52 p.m. "Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain" - psalms 127:1 Thank you Chang. Thank you. GP mock exam tomorrow first thing in the morning. 7.30AM.Wednesday, July 14, 2004 06:46 p.m. What really defines a Happy Birthday? A day out with close friends? A day where friends you haven’t talked to in ages message you with birthday greetings? A day when you receive all sorts of presents, not forgetting the Hong Baos? A day to dress up and go for a lovely dinner? Would that really be a Happy Birthday? I don’t know. I might be happy. To many, turning 18 is FINALLY the time when you can buy cigarettes legally, flash a real ID to the bouncer at Zouk and learn how to drive a proper car. What does turning 18 mean to me? I’m still trying to figure that out. I am. I am. Somehow, it just seems like more responsibilities and the A-levels. What would you want for your birthday present? A car? A credit card? Money? Clothes? Daddy keeps on asking me what I’ll want for my birthday. It’s so hard to tell him, the presents I want, are rather intangible. I want, a closer walk with God. I want to dwell in his house forever. I want good grades. It’s the passport to the future right? Who wouldn’t want them! I could add in, a happy, healthy, God-fearing family. Of course, I wouldn’t mind those tangible presents like a new pair of heels and a new handbag! haha. I believe people’s definition of a Happy birthday varies greatly. If you’re an 18 year old African girl, the day you’re celebrating your birthday might be the day you’re delivering your third child. It’s still a happy occasion. If you’re an 18 year old American girl, this day might be the day when you get a new car from your dad, a huge party with fine food and good wine and many presents. I believe that your definition changes from year to year. When I was in primary school, a happy birthday would be a day when all my classmates can attend my MacDonald’s birthday party. The clown would be present, I’ll have a huge cake, I’ll receive lots of presents and games and I can run around, be crazy and play “pin the donkey’s tail”. Over the years, my definition has changed. I’ll rather a small simple dinner with close friends and family. No presents? Never mind. But I don’t think I would like a MacDonald’s birthday party at 18. If you’re starting to think that I am a unhappy, dissatisfied birthday girl. Fear not. I was just wondering, what really defines a Happy birthday since you celebrate it 48 times if you’re 48 years old and 5 times, if you’re only 5. Certainly too, there’s a number of watches, pens, ties that you can collect over the years. There have been surprises after surprises starting with the 2 week early celebration from cell, the early presents and definitely not discounting the cake I got from terence during recess today together with the class singing a birthday song. I really didn’t expect it. Thank you! There’s still the presents I received, the SMSs received, the greetings. Not forgetting, my day out with my lovely girls yesterday feasting on waffles, kaya toast, yakitori, corochan’s, the all girls outing to Sentosa this Sunday and dinner afterwards and the thai dinner my dad organised tonight for the family and my close friends. You think it’s a sad birthday? No clubbing, no drinking? Ah, people’s definition differs greatly. A very Happy birthday indeed! Cake anyone?Monday, July 12, 2004 07:55 p.m. yesterday was really fun! spent almost the entire daySaturday, July 10, 2004 11:15 a.m. went to wild wild wet yesterday! at first when we got there and we saw those huge slides, we were all excited and started hurrying to change and slap on sunblock. but, after going through all the slides and tubes and all, it got a bit boring. the place is really small. there were only a total of 5 slides! one slide was really adrenaline rushing though! the other three tubes were not at all challening, but fun nonetheless, and the last one, which was riding a 2-seater bicycle on a uplifted railway track, was quite cool! but then again, it got quite boring after 3 rides. in total, we took like an hour half just to complete all the slides. and after that, we went back on certain slides and just lazed around in the tsunami pool where tsunamis come every 15mins. so you get rocked back and forth and water gets into your nose. haha. went around the complex in the "shiok" river with an underwater current. that was relaxing and it made swimming faster :) oh oh! and there was this huge water playground called the professor's playground! haha! it's meant for kids but i think, we 18year olds had the most fun there! that was really cool, running around in the playground, fighting with unmovable water guns, pouring a whole tub of water on your friends, going down slides, getting this whole tub of water poured onto you by strangers and just splashing around in water! fun! really enjoyed myself there even though there were so few slides! every slide and tube we went on, we screamed our lungs out. the minute we discovered the professor's playground and set foot on it, we were laughing ourselves silly and being all kiddish. when we ride on the bicycle, we started freaking ourselves out because it seemed as if the bicycle was going to fall! haha! i bet all the kids were thinking we had a really deprived childhood :) went for cell after that and did a lesson on peace. i'm glad all turned up :) got a birthday present from gilly, cheryl, debbie and jacq! thank you girls! i love it! :) yesterday was really a lovely and splendid end to 3 very horrible days in school.Wednesday, July 7, 2004 10:17 p.m. While Ronaldo cries for Portugal, I cry for myself. i'm going crazy just trying to find a good tutor who can help me with my failing econs. it's not that it's difficult to find a tutor. it's so easy! it's just that i have to consider factors like price, timing, teaching methods etc. As if finding a tutor is not difficult enough, i have to deal with accepting my horrible grades. it's heartbreaking just to go through the answers because i don't seem to have half of the answers! it's probably going to be heart shattering over the next few days then. there's still school stress, coping with studies, commitments, parents and all. i'm ready to pull all my hair out!Monday, July 5, 2004 09:07 p.m. aik aik. school starts tomorrow! how come we have to go back so quickly! i don't want to get back my grades. i'm just starting to enjoy myself. went down town today and it was packed with youths. everybody was going out with their class, with their partners and all. had swensens ice cream for lunch and then power walked from PS to wisma trying to stop everywhere and buy something. i'm beat. Greece won the Euro cup! cheers to the underdogs! they defended great! i really didn't want Portugal to win. they kicked out England and their jerseys are so christmasy! green and red? yuks. plus, the portugese were so yaya. just look at Ronaldo and his flashy golden boots and huge diamond earring. oh well, but Ronaldo teared. Do you know that the army has a canteen called the cook house? what a cute name! and you can have your meals there during lunch for free!? (only if you're an army boy) did you know that? hah! i bet you don't! i just figured that out today. how cool.Sunday, July 4, 2004 12:08 a.m. you tell me why. why does it always seem that when i take not one, not two, but three steps back, you always take 4 steps forward? why do you always walk right back in after i've decided to walk out? why then, is there the string? why is it that everytime i start being all cold and build my walls, you always try to crack me up and break down my fortress? why?Friday, July 2, 2004 11:56 p.m. had a really really pleasant surprise at cell tonight! the girls at cell celebrated my birthday! way in advance. haha. deanne bought a haagen-dazs chocolate ice cream cake! so they were all hiding in the kindy room with the lights off and when i went in, they surprised me and sang the birthday song! :) Thank you everyone! Thank you deanne for getting that yummy fattening cake. haha. thank you michelle, jacq, jolene, claire, debbie, cheryl, gilly, janice for organising that surprise! No wonder debbie and cheryl were like tugging at me after worship, asking me to follow them to the toilet and getting me to play with them. hmm. no thanks to gilly for smashing the cake into my face and jacq's :) also, thanks cheryl and deb for that present from the UK! i hung it up in my kitchen :)Friday, July 2, 2004 10:25 a.m. Exams are over! Horray! math was tough. don't feel like talking about it. but it seems weird that during the march exams, though i didn't put in so much effort, i felt way much better and more confident. now, it's just that i'm relieved it's over because i can get some sleep. that's all. zero confidence at all. no idea how i'll do. anyway! had a really really fun time yesterday! after school, went out to have pratas for lunch with Sarah. then headed over to her house. we played like an hour or so of tennis! tennis was fun! whee! i want to play it again. just that i was hitting it a bit too hard and so, the balls were always out. but i'm quite good for a beginner. haha. swam for about an hour too and chatted. it's super relaxing and good after 4 weeks of stuyding and 2 days of exams :) sarah, let's do this more often okay? :) daddy picked me up and we went to my aunt's place for the farewell dinner for my aunt and my cousin who's leaving today. we had HUGE HUGE crabs and prawn noodles. yummy. oh! my aunt gave mommy and myself this makeup bag. it's like a foldable bag yet you can open it all up and hang it up. there are like 4 transparent "pencil cases" to put all your makeup! it's really cool. we're going to re organise our makeup again so that we'll never buy those that we have. haha. i can't wait to do it. My aunt gave us lots of cosmetics and makeup from America! i got a new bronzer, lavendar nail polish, moisturizer and a new bronzy, chocolate lipstick! i like the lipstick colour! Sarah got this new facial cleanser, purple colour lip gloss, some reddish nail polish called tropical bloom and don't know what else. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
