Friday, June 29, 2001 - 09:23 a.m. For those who read Color Outside the Lines, you probably already know that we have jobs now as gas station attendants for Safeway (bet you didn't know that Safeway sells gas!). It all happened really quickly. On Wednesday, Lissa and I got consecutive phone calls and consecutive interviews for Thursday. At the interview, the lady (Brenda or Glinda, don't ask) was supremely nice. She told me all about the job - I GET BENEFITS if I make it past probation. I probably won't be working more than 20 to 25 hours per week (cross your fingers that it does wind up being more), but hopefully it pays more than minimum wage. Lissa and I really should have asked. Anyway, we were both shocked when she offered us jobs before the end of our interviews. We have to go pee in cups today, but we'll find out on Monday when we start training. It's supposed to be toward the end of next week - hopefully, we'll be training together if only to make transportation easier. Then we went shopping for uniforms - turns out that the best place to go was Lane Bryant's (the last place on our list because of how expensive it is) so we wound up with uniforms (black slacks and white blouses) that cost somewhere around $65 apiece. More money I owe Melissa . . . between Melissa and Jason, I feel like I'm using them as a bank. I hate it, I really do. It's just I feel backed into this corner. Now that I have a job though, hopefully, I can talk to all my creditors and hold them off for a little while longer and then pay everyone back. TV time: My TV time has been pretty much limited to watching season 7 of the X-Files. Apparently, this week makes up for all the crappy episodes from last week. I especially enjoyed "Hollywood A.D." They're showing the pilot tonight which excites me a lot. I want to see squeaky-voiced Mulder. There was a new episode of The Beast . . . they finally figured out that the bomber was there. It was starting to piss me off. And they had lots more Reese McFadden *sigh* - do you think it's wrong to fall in love with a TV character? I'm just sayin'. Monday, June 25, 2001 - 08:56 a.m.Well, it's been an exciting morning so far. Around 7:15 a.m., we had a 3.4 magnitude earthquake and lots of aftershocks since then. I had just woken up (yay for a normal night's sleep) and was checking my e-mail when all of a sudden, the house started to shake. Now, I'm in the basement which is really scary. I thought it was an explosion or something. It doesn't feel like the earthquakes we get in California - it was really violent shaking. When I went upstairs, I turned on the news. For awhile, they thought it was a mysterious explosion, too, but after a while, they figured out that it was just a really shallow, violent earthquake rather than the normal rolling one. It hasn't seemed to cause much damage in Spokane other than a few broken windows and some things falling off shelves. We didn't have that problem here, thankfully. We had a 3.2 aftershock at 8:01 a.m. I'm really surprised that an aftershock would be that close to the original magnitude of the quake. There have been 13 aftershocks since the initial earthquake. TV Time: There hasn't been much on this last week. I enjoyed the second episode of The Beast a lot. Jason Gedrick is really cute. I finally watched the Fear Factor and wasn't very impressed by it though I imagine I'll watch it again. I enjoyed about half of the X-Files episodes on FX last week. I especially enjoyed "All Things" although the weird slow-motion movements was kind of obnoxious. I saw "Chimera", the scary raven/human episode, again, and I must admit that it was much better the second time around. I'm very sad that I slept through the X-Files episode last night which screws a lot of my plans up, but I digress. I woke up in time to tape most of the next one and all of the one after that. On Sundays here, they run three episodes. I need to watch them though now that I'm awake. Over the weekend, I logged an amazing amount of VH1 because they were showing their greatest moments and their most shocking moments. I'm always intrigued by countdowns and lists. |
