Archives 9/11/2006 Today, a certain wild and crazy guy celebrates his 61st birthday. That's right, it's Steve Martin's birthday. Happy Birthday, Steve. 8/4/2006 While I'm still waiting for Taylor Barton's latest album, Vapor, to show up at my doorstep, I've come across an article on her husband, G.E. Smith, that I've read earlier this year. Still waiting, still waiting. <--- BTW, that's a Talking Heads reference. Hollywood mourns the loss of television pioneer, Aaron Spelling, who succumbed to a stroke last night at the age of 83. Spelling's well-known for his hit television shows such as Starsky & Hutch, Charlie's Angels, The Love Boat, and 7th Heaven. When I've heard the news of his passing, I was shocked. Spelling's done a lot of television work in his life, and a couple of his shows have been translated into big-screen adaptations. I hope that, with the possibility of 7th Heaven airing it's "final" season on The CW this Fall, it will be dedicated to Aaron's memory. Back on May 20th, I got bored and decided to make a video. I've decided to make a photoshow because I didn't have a capture card installed in my computer. Therefore, my creation was completed and I've posted on YouTube. I've called it Montage of Shawn Pelton due to my decade-long admiration of the SNL Band's current drummer. So far, I haven't gotten any feedback or ratings. :( Come on, people. It took me all day to create it, could I at least hear from you. And now, in rememberance of Gato Kitty. That same day, Gato Kitty passed on. She was my aunt Ginger's kitty for 16 years who happens to be both the sister of Teddi Bear & Buffy (deceased since 2003) and the daugther of Nina & Meow Meow. Gato was a grouchy kitty who hated to be bothered with, but when she was with Ginger, she can be a real sweetheart. Gato died from kidney failure and now she's reunited with her parents, late brother, and her good friend, Lestat. I miss you, Gato. :( Ever since I've downloaded iTunes a few months ago, I've took the liberty of subscribing to some podcasts, starting out with Dragonhearth, by Laura and Tracy Hickman. Hickman along with Margert Weis, are the co-creators of my favorite D&D fantasy setting, Dragonlance. I recently discovered RDF Underground not too long ago which enabled me to subscribe to their weekly podcasts through iTunes. I even took part in their survey on how did you get into Robotech. I chose other and left a message explaining how I got into Robotech in the first place. The message goes like this (BTW, I'm known as AdmLisaHayesHunter): To Tell the Truth: I got into Robotech out of curiosity. It started when I first got the Sci-Fi Channel back in 1994, and back then they aired cartoons in the mornings and Robotech was among them? It wasn't until 1998 when Cartoon network aired Robotech, and that includes deliberately omitting the New Generation arc, that got me hooked big time. I even bought all 21 novels by Jack McKinney so that I would read them during my spare time. I've finally got around to getting the Robotech RPG books via eBay earlier this decade, and I haven't looked back since. WOW!! Not only was I mentioned, but my homepage as well. I hope this will increase traffic because of my 15 minutes of fame. :D It was 17 years ago today that the entertainment world lost one it's beloved comediannes: Gilda Radner. Gilda, one of the original cast members of Saturday Night Live, succumbed to ovarian cancer that morning. On the evening of SNL's season finale, that night's host, Steve Martin, decided in lieu of a monologue, that re-airing the skit "Dancing in the Dark" would air in it's place. Martin would later add this shortly after the skit ended: You know, when I look at that tape, I can't help but think how great she was, and how young I looked. Gilda, we loved you.. Gilda's former husband, SNL Band leader G.E. Smith, wore a black armband all throughout the show. They (G.E. and Gilda) were married for almost two years. Flash forward 11 years to the night of Cheryl Hardwick's last show as member of the SNL Band. She retired after being with them for nearly 25 years. Last I heard from her, she retired to Hawaii. If you're reading this, Ms. Hardwick, I salute you, the matron of the SNL Band. I know what you're thinking. Why does Cheryl's retirement haunt you? It's because two months before the season finale (Jackie Chan/Kid Rock) aired, I got an e-mail saying the Cheryl's retiring at the end of the season and I just couldn't believe the news. I have to take the good with the bad. Katreese Barnes, who replaced Cheryl at the start of SNL's 26th season, has been doing a stellar job in her place. Tonight is the night of Saturday Night Live's 31st season finale with Kevin Spacey as host, who's promoting "Superman Returns", and Nelly Futardo as musical guest. I hate to see another favorite (cast member, band member, writer, et al.) leave after having a wonderful time being on a show such as Saturday Night Live happen on a date such as May 20th. Gilda died on this date 17 years ago. Cheryl retired from the SNL Band 6 years ago. I can't imagine anyone else leaving, especially Darrell Hammond who's done a killer impression of Bill Clinton, and he's the Phil Hartman of the 21st Century. So, in short: To everyone at Studio 8H, break a leg and give everyone hell tonight. After having my internet service reactivated earlier today, I've paid a visit to two of my friends' (Dave's and Nishi's) blogs, and they each explained how they've recently lost their loved ones. Dave, not to be confused with my brother-in-law who works here in Savannah, lost his wife, Nancy, on 10/01/2005 from breast cancer. As noted on my previous post, I've gone back to wearing the pink pin that I've purchased at Payless last October to show my support in the war against breast cancer. Nishi's blog provides a better explanation of what has happened during the past three weeks. As for me, back in San Antonio, I once dated a guy named Arthur Vasquez. He was okay at first and we had an okay first-date. But we broke up just before we started on our second date because, IMO, I wasn't ready to take the relationship to the next level. I'm glad that I broke up with him because I don't like guys who want to do that to a woman on the first and/or second dates unless they got to know each other a lot more before they attempt to do that. Well, goodnight folks. And to Katie Couric, good luck with your new job at CBS. I hope that Ann Curry will take your place. 3-2-2006 2/20/2006 |
