Its 10:47 p.m. why isn't Steph asleep yet!?!

PA.N ^_~ (Poisonapple.net)

Its up and running (well the server part that is ^_~) the page itself is going through some work, I'm working hard on trying to get it finished by my birthday (which is this coming tuesday.)

Things that are up and running:
Section/page:
Stephanie/about steph (modified from a previous page...)
Debate/index page
Portfolio/layouts no index page
About/finished
Links/finished
Guestbook/needs to be done
Mail/needs to be done

My brain is running out of ideas to make designs. ^_^;; But that's sort of a given considering that I was never really that creative to begin with.

More Reading:
I am currently reading The Age of Spiritual Machines which is a better read than the Eric Drexler book Engines of Creation. I highly suggest Spiritual Machines its a trippy book written in fairly plain (if not too plain) english for people who don't want to read a science book on the possibility of nanotechnology (like Engines of Creation) ^^;;. I'm waiting for Ender's Shadow and an auction on another book that has gotten rave reviews (this book is alway sold out at Amazon) I forgot the title. ^_^;; but I'll post it as soon as I remember. Dune sounds interesting... time to hit the used book stores. =D

Listening to: "Silicone" - Mono from the Formica Blues album.

Amazon - Still the bane of my existence, now at the neartest walmart!

Borders: 2 | Amazon: 6!

Update on the score board: Borders scores a cool 2 points!
My prayers have been answered. o_o It was as if some CEO suggested to the Walmart & Amazon CEOs "Stephanie wants an amazon she can walk into." Amazon and Walmart are going to partner up and create a tour de force. Great stuff at low prices at Amazon now found in Walmart, and cool low price stuff found in walmart now found in Amazon! *_* Smaaaarrrrrt! *Steph buries her CC*

poisonapple.net is on its way to being put up, I'm reworking the index page (to accomodate 800x600 and 1025x726 or whatever the height is =P) My portfolio page is now moved too. Its great I can't wait to move things and offer to friends and prospective employers a place where they can see what I can do with out having them go "So what's dohkee-dohkee? Can you even pronounce that?" ^^;; Its going to take some work but it will look cool.

I'm also working on my LaLa page, I need to get the content up. ~_~ That's the hardest part, the image and the layout is done but this time I won't physically cut the image up with out having the content done yet. =P

Ignore this part:
+ 2 doz oatmeal raisin cookies
+ 1/2 gal 2% milk
+ 6 boxes mac 'n cheese (the college student's best friend @_@)
+ 4 cans tuna
+ 1 bag bagels or
+ 1 loaf bread

RARRRRRRR

I hate microsoft, I think I'll learn linux.

I'm writing a nice long message to a new ML that I joined and I go save it so I ca finish it and Microsoft won't let me because it thinks that we should debug the bad java that AOL used. I say no close the program and the two windows of IE I was using closes with it. GARRRRRRRRRRR! I didn't ask to debug aol's stupid java! Why does Microsoft assume that I want to!!!!!!!! *me gnaws on Microsoft* stupid computer, be logical for once. -__- Anyways I lost the message and now I'm late for class.

Listening to: The Harry Potter Movie Trailer - Draco looks like Macaulay Culkin but more spoiled. o_o And the scenes with the quidditch matches *_* I can't wait to see the movie. (Supposedly it was scheduled to go out with book 5? O_o)

Hotohori ^_^;;;

Taking a break (procrasintating) from my midterm studying. ^_^;; I'm kind of glad that the stuff we're learning in calc is more review. =P

From the Best guy for you test:
# 1 Hotohori from Fushigi Yuugi
# 2 Nagoya Chiaki from Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne
# 3 Zagato from Magic Knight Rayearth
# 4 Chichiri from Fushigi Yuugi
# 5 Morisato Keichi from Ah! My Goddess
# 6 Ryohji Kaji from Neon Genesis Evangelion
# 7 Kiryuu Touga from Shoujo Kakumei Utena
# 8 Tamahome from Fushigi Yuugi
# 9 Gabriev Gourry from The Slayers
# 10 Kinomoto Touya from Cardcaptor Sakura

Ummm yeah o_o *steph points to the Clamp man selector test below... that's slightly more accurate but then again I'm biased ^_~*

Bottom 5:
# 21 Ikari Gendo from Neon Genesis Evangelion
# 22 Shiirou Kamui from X (X/1999)
# 23 Eagle Vision from Magic Knight Rayearth
# 24 Ikari Shinji from Neon Genesis Evangelion
# 25 Monou Fuuma from X (X/1999)

^_^;;; I would choose Eagle over Hotohori...

Skip this entry its just random babbling.

Borders: 2 | Amazon: 4 On my mental score board for Borders vs Amazon, Amazon wins again. Here's the current breakdown:

Borders: Keeping books on hold and having a physical store I can shop at (1), for having this customer database so I won't have to constantly tell them my phone # when I special order a book.(1) =P It lost points for: Telling me that they no longer distribute the Romeo & Juliet OST vol 2 when the Borders Downtown clearly has the same CD in stock! and it lost points for its really really expensive shipping online. Borders Current Total: 2

Amazon wins points for: having cds I want in stock and ready to ship (1), having this nifty if not evil suggestion page tailored to your browsing habits (1), cool shipping prices! (1), having the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack in stock and cheaper than borders (with shipping calculated in) (1). Amazon Current Total: 4 (Jeff Bezos if I ever meet you I will either praise you for being a genius or call you a devil for suggesting cool stuff for me to buy ^^;;;)

Mailing List Musings part II

This would makes an intresting comm & tech project but its too complicated, the rhetoric of email, mailing lists and chatrooms. ^^;; If I ever get a masters in rhetoric I'll write my masters thesis (or make it my major thesis...) on the rhetoric of technology and the internet.

But back to why its interesting. While I was browsing some of the threads in the Clamp Mailing List; which even after 2 years *still* centers around X (with Tokyo Babylon next but that's mostly still TB in the X world). The ML gets touchy about issues and they spend a few threads or two talking about it. The one thing I can say is that its self-moderating and it stays on topic well (maybe too well =P).

Maybe I'm criticizing the CML but rarely does the CML ever have 30% or more of its daily traffic talking about anything other than X and if it does its Tokyo Babylon but X related. Not that that's a bad thing but I wish I could talk more about Clamp series that doesn't have its own mailing list (Angelic Layer, Clover, Wish, Suki Dakra Suki, Chobits even) if there is talk about it it goes 2 ways. Way 1: Its about the characters and their relations (Kouryuu and Hisui). Way 2: it gets killed after maybe 5 messages and it goes back to X talk. I don't mind X its a pretty series but Clover has more fodder to talk about imo ^^;;; (and one can say so much about what Seishirou said to Subaru when he *spoiler* before it gets repeated and analyzed to death.) ^_^;;;

I'll stop talking about this for now. =P

Children of the Mind

I like this book better than Speaker for the Dead, it has a nice pace and its a nice read. I'm swept up in Orsen Scott Card Fandom (I almost bought Demosthenes.com if it wasn't already registered ^^;;; but SpeakfortheDead and childrenofthemind.com aren't taken... don't tempt me). The story is nice, especially the introduction of Wang Mu (a character that appears in volume 3 Xenocide). Want Mu is cool, and especially when *spoiler* Peter Wiggin returns and Wang Mu has wanted to meet Peter Wiggin since she read about him but the Peter Wiggin she knew as Hegemon was also dead 3000 years ago. ^_^;;; But this Peter Wiggin asks her to join and she joins him and there's this chemistry between the two characters that I like.*end spoiler* I can't wait for Ender's Shadow to come, I love reading more about the time when Ender was in battle school. Peter Wiggin reminds me of some of the people I read about in the book 48 Laws of Power (now in paperback!) like Machiavelli. Some people criticize Ender's Game because they can't believe that 6 year olds can talk like adults (and with my 12 year old sister sometimes that's proof ^^;;;;) I guess when I read the book it didn't bother me that they were 6-12 when they were speaking like 25 year olds. I had to remind myself that Ender Wiggin was only 7 years old and commanding a mini army. He was 8 and was a commander at the school, he was 11 and he became the commander of the IF Fleet. o_o I guess since Tanzy keeps thinking I'm 12 (the age keeps getting younger and younger too ¬_¬) I can relate. ^_~

Mailing List Musings

I'm sitting in the computer lab (again =P) because I'm killing time, later I'll probably run over to borders harrass them for my cd ^_~ and then read Children of the Mind.

Mailing List:

Maybe its because I like studying rhetoric and read into the way people choose words (I'm no master at it =P I suck when it comes to finding the right words to string together...) but I am facinated (that may be too strong a word, interested is probably better) by two things: 1) the rhetoric of parents and children (especially when they argue and what level does pride/ego/and intelligence play in that use of rhetoric) and 2) the rhetoric of the internet, especially the rhetoric of chatrooms and email.

Since the internet has created one culture (belong a group of people with something in common whether you choose to or not) and in that culture are lots of communities (choosing to belong to a group and exchanging ideas and interests, interacting with members of that culture on another level of commonality...). When I look at those 2 words I realize that there is a third word we have to add: the user (the person who belongs and chooses to interact). The user has a perception of themselves (whether it be selfish or humble that's not the point) and that user projects as much of it out to the community they belong to (this case it would be a mailing list) by discrediting their own ideas with words or choosing the right combination of words to show that they are humble and vice versa. But that's *their* perception of what they believe humble is to be. The rest of that community may see it differently. This was something I was wondering about since I joined my first ML (the Fanfiction ML which I later dropped because it filled my inbox faster than I could read @_@). Because the internet culture is so diverse and so large and there are communities with in communities (circles of friends for example) there are bound to be different perceptions of how to project (through writing) the image of the person you want to show.

So where is the limit where the meaning of your words no longer carry "your" meaning and they begin to be interpreted differently by an audience? I always wondered about that when I read mail from mailing lists or when I write a mail to go to a mailing list, the words I choose are careful but when I write to a friend or to someone else (not on a ML) the words aren't restrained. Does that make sense? I really like it when people take into account the rhetoric or the intent of their words. Sometimes I admire people who like to ignore that idea. I mean this is just my opinon and if you happen to read this and totally disagree. ok. If you read this and believe that the "image" or idea that I am trying to protray is wrong and forcing an idea on you then that's how you interpreted my words. And that's okay.

That's just my musing for the day.

Listening to: Duncan Sheik - I wonder how he got that last name...

Raviolli =D

Interesting, I knew this blog was searchable. I mean I understood that search engines would find stuff (I mean they found this blog under the words Harry Potter and Slash ^_^) But it was trippy because I wrote about my expectations about a tech & comm class. ^^;;; The trippy part was that my professor talked about weblogs today and he talked about how one person wrote about him and that he thought it was voyeuristic. ^_^;;; The more he talked about it the more I realized "oh my god he found my blog! He read bits of my random manga babble!" and I felt my face go warm ^^;;; I wonder if he found my blog o_o not that it matters the course is great =D (and I'm not saying that to cover if he happens to read this blog ^_~).

Later I did search and realized that it would be sort of hard to find my blog. ^_^;;; so no worries. I makes me wonder who reads this blog (besides people linked off the list & stuff...). I guess I learned a lesson, blogs are *very* public. Oh well who would want to read my babble about a boring college student? (If you do read my blog, I'm glad I offer some sort of entertainment ^_^;;;;)

I'm excited, I had a sudden inspiration like Moses at the mountain (ok Lent is getting to me =P) I realized "make a mailing list for my debate kids!" It'd be a good idea to electronicly send them messages and work so they can research it. I'm also really excited for two of my students. They're moving up divisions. Camellia is afraid of getting her ass kicked (to be honest that will happen) and for Amelia its what she's wanted since joining the team, to finally compete where she can fully use the debate training she learned. =) Its scary for me because I have to start thinking about how to teach them the technics of debate and the difference between theory and debate and when to know the difference between debating debate theory and rules and the actual issue itself (its sort of like 2 layers of debate!).

Anyways, I'm 1/3rd of the way through Xenocide, its been a busy day and the book is a slower read. I have to admit none of the sequels to Ender's Game seems to match the intensity of Ender's Game but its a good read. Ender reminded me of Kenshin from Ruroni Kenshin who vowed never to kill gain after killing many people. Then again if you think closely there are lots of characters from the Ender's series that are similar to other characters in other books (like Ender being a foil to Harry Potter).

I went to Lucca Deli with my friend Tony, he picked up some prosciutto and italian salami, I got 2 boxes of raviolli. Yuuuuuuuum. =D

Listening to: Duncan Sheik's self titled album - I like his music, I have his Barely Breathing single and his Humming cd. He came out with a new cd Phantom Moons need to get that too one day.

Ummmm I mentioned that I was getting Speaker for the Dead, but I finished it. ^_^;;; I read about 130 pages in 1 1/2 hrs and was about 2/5 of the way done so I got the 3rd book (Xenocide) I think I'll get Ender's Shadow and Children of the Mind next (4 & 5). I like reading about Ender, Bean, Valentine, and Jane. The rest sort of meld together into one block of text. ^_^;;; But in the end its nice to be reading something as opposed to reading a manga. Reading manga is more interpretive since I don't have a good grasp of Japanes but English I'm barely fluent in that. ^_~

I'm glad things for my group project are coming together. ^_^;;; Some of those group members probably figured out that the url doki-doki.org was my personal site and probably visited it. Its interesting when people who aren't as into anime/manga look at your anime pages and go "wow that's errr out there... its definitely a personal page!" Which is why I bought the url poisonapple.net. I wanted to sort of avoid that because its easier to circumvent an explanation about my money-sucking hobby (not debate) manga. ^_^

Listening to: Ummm well it was supposed to be the Romeo & Juliet Motion Picture Soundtrack vol 2 but it didn't come in yet (darn Borders mush! mush! mush!) so I'm still listening the Utena Movie OST. Imagine having Zettai Unmei Mokushirouku stuck in your head on your way to class and you want to belt out "Zettai un-mei mokushiroukuuuu!" ^_^;;;

Hatrack River - The Official Orsen Scott Card Homepage

I finished Ender's Game in 24 hrs including breaks, sleeping, some studying, and class. I was surprised at how I devoured the book. ^^;; If I had all the free time in the world maybe at about 12 hours. Its definitely a book I'd reread again and a again. (I have Speaker for the Dead on hold at Borders ^_^;;;) There aren't that many books I reread but Orsen Scott Card writes as if I should read it again and again or I'd miss the finer points of the story. The Harry Potter series is a series I'd re-read again. The same applies to anything written by Erich Segal (who wrote Love Story) but I suggest his other books they're more powerful than Love Story like Doctors (one of my favorite books). ^_~

Listening to: the Utena Movie OST - Its sparly! Go here for more Utena music. If life had background music I'd pick Utena bgm to be the dramatic parts.

March Layout!

*Steph bounces off the walls* wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I finished and uploaded the March layout of Doki-Doki! ^_^ go look! I tried to make it netscape compatible (but without having netscape on my comp that's sort of hard ^_^;;;;). It should fit 600 x 800 (the image dimensions were 476 x 750 grrrr). This month features the men of HanaKimi. I hope the scroll bars aren't an annoying shade of purple, I finally had them match the text (there isn't a wide selectio of non-dithering lavendars are there? ^_^;;;)

BTW: Orsen Scott Card writes amazing books. I read 150 pages and I got Ender's Game this afternoon! I had to force myself to put the book down and work on something else. ^_^;;; Ender is such a cool kid and Card makes them act like they're 20. =) I'd highly suggest this book.

Content?

Random musing, but I realized that all my pages are done out of selfishness. =) But good selfishness. I mean I don't cater to any one audience when I create a page. For example the current contruction of The LaLa Information Page is done out of the reason that I like LaLa and I want to put up a small information page about the series that run in it. The Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne page was done the same way, it was a simple information page that just had all the information that I could find in one source. At the time the page was made because I didn't want to find it anywhere else. (yes I'm very proud of that page ^_^;;;) The same goes for the for the Nervous Venus page, the Mikan no Tsuki Page, and the Delicious page. None of the pages were done out of "popularity" (KKJ probably being the exception ^_^;;;). I guess its because people have to come up with "creative" ways to make pages about a series that already has pages of great content on it. For example. My favorite Card Captor Sakura page is by far the *cutie cutie*card captor sakura page which has the most content and the most (non-clamp)-images about CCS. Its a beautiful page with a simple design). I always go there first. (and then Rabi's image-sparse but nicely laid-out content based CCS page).

My favorite X page is Rabi's X page one of the first and still the better known for its content and its attempt to not have any clamp art on it. =P

I mean I don't put up pages to please someone I put up pages to please myself (I'm a selfish person but that's what monkeys do ^_~). But to have to sit and dig for a way to make a page original just sort of stretches the boundaries. What I mean by making it original is when someone takes an obscure part of a anime/manga series and decides to make a page on that one obscure part. Following the same logic I could take my Jeanne page and create a whole new page about the metaphors of Jeanne D'Arc and how Adam and Eve play in the characters lives. But that's getting waayyyy to into analyzing a series that doesn't ask for analyzing.

Don't ask why I'm ranting about it. I just visited one of those "beautiful layout, content ?" pages and realized that the layout while beautiful doesn't have staying power unless you have content to back that beautiful layout with.

On another note my argumentation class is errr... off. That's the only way I can say it. I'm not saying it from a debater's standpoint but from a person with common sense. When you advocate something, it should be something with fairly realistic reasons right? Why would someone ban ATMs from college campuses? Why would someone talk about the bra? Or banning cars from Yosemite? Some of these arguments just have no valid reason to exist. ~_~ That's about it.

Oh and I finished the MyBags.com page. *Steph bounces off the walls in glee.*

Listening to: nothing =P I'm at the computer lab on campus.

Boy I miss debate...

WTF RTFM!

Ok I know wrote like 4 hrs ago but oh well its my blog so nyah.

E-bay

I put up 4 items to auction. The first 3 are furoku (gift) decks from 1999. These cards are old, really old and rare since they are in really good condition. The last is a book.
1) 1 deck of cards Card Captor Sakura: a deck of cards that have scenes of Sakura, Touya, Yukito, and Tomoyo from the anime series. This was furoku from the magazine Nakayoshi. If I find the matching trick cards I'll add it to the deck.
2) Ribon World Trump Cards: a deck of cards that has the art of 4 artists from the magazine Ribon.
3) Let's Go!: A deck of 1 1/2 inch square cards. The most notable series from these cards are the DaDaDa! cards. Also has art from 4 artists. =)
4) HanaKimi Character Book: The character guide for the manga series Hanazakarai no Kimetachi E. Its quite sparkly and nice. Infact one of the images will be the march layout for Doki-Doki (I'm hitting a wall with the tsuzuku one which will probably be a blog layout. ^_^)

Think Geek

This is a gem. The dot.commer's dream store. (I like the unix and the mugs ^_^). This store will have my cc on file when I wrestle it from my sister. =)

Orsen Scott Card

Those who have heard of this author must hide! I want all of his books! I read one little blurb about Shadows of Hegemon and now I want to read all the Ender's series! ******_******* I will get these books so I can read them when I go to Japan. =D

Borders vs Amazon

Amazon wins in a landslide, if it weren't for the fact that I live near a Borders I would shop at Amazon if it had a physical store. Amazon has a more logical seach engine and it just rocks because it suggests other authors/books/cds to read/listen to. The recommendation part of Amazon is a bit eerie they swear that I'll like Shenmune. o_o Oh well I am going to get Orsen Scot Card books and Romeo & Juliet vol 2 soundtrack on Monday or whenever I happen to stop by Borders. =)

Nanobots again...

Speaking of books (my other vice =p) I picked up a cool book that is facinating. =) The Age of Spiritual Machines which is a prophetic book about machines becoming smater than man and developing more than AI. The book itself is quite nice, it shimmers and sparkles! I am not kidding it has this cool rainbow shimmer cover. I guess since its a 20th anniversary edition or something. I haven't had time to read it since I have 3 math assignments, 1 group project, and 1 bio midterm. ~_~

Steph's Pet Project

I know group projects are things people either like or hate. In my case I hate this one. Me and six other people are this struggling dot.com company and we have to beg investors for money. So we decided to be this company called MyBags. A company that custom makes backpacks from base backpack designs. I volunteered to do the webpage (because logically when your professor asks for a very convincing presentation and you're a dot.com company... you get the idea.) So I made the current MyBags design. Its actually my pet project now and as soon as PA.N gets set up it will probably go into the portfolio section. I mean I learned new html for this. Anyways, the page design seemed simple but then the group got a bit overboard and I went along with it and designed a dummy demo page that supposedly represents the "Real" MyBags page. =)

The page has state of the art CSS and frames, sizeable from 600 x 800 and up for both Netscape and IE (but I prefer IE for the CSS) and it has a neato "fake" login page. The page also has an already done account with "buddies" and a profile. Note the high tech html work on the pages whooooo! ^_~

See how its my pet project? A 20 min presentation can be done on the page design alone. ~_~ But in the end its quite impressive. ^_^ I like the way it looks and how the logo (which is a gif image) accidentally got frayed. (It wasn't supposed to look that way but now it looks like it was embriodered).

Japan News: Emi 'n I have tickets! Wheeeeeee! And yes as Emi said about the love hotels, yes we may go to one (I mean these things have aquariums and bathrooms bigger than the one's we'll be in =P). ^_^ Part of the whole Japan experience I guess.

I also archived. =)

Listening to: Shiina Ringo - her first CD Muzai Memoratorium (I think that's the title) Everytime I hear her music I am awed by her voice and versatility. She is a singer that refuses to be labeled into a category.

Boy I miss debate...
