Well. I was bored, and was procrastinating from studying for my absolutely last final EVER at DeAnza (Art History: Post-Renaissance to Impressionism)... so I was cataloguing my extremely small (but quality! I hope) library and decided to make a list of recommendations and non-recomendations. The ones on the list of favorites, I actually own, the ones on the non-favorites lists, I don't. (Again, quality over quantity.)

In case you're in the least bit interested.

The time to move to Irvine is coming inexorably closer and closer, and I find myself freezing in panic like a deer in headlights and closing my mind and hoping that I'll have more time. As August draws nearer, I realize just how many relationships and roots I've made/put down in the Bay Area, first of which being my bf with whom I have a closer relationship I never thought possible for someone as neurotic as me, and encompassing all the friendships I made in the years since I returned from UCDavis, both in school and at work. And now I have to start over from scratch, in terms of job and school, and I will miss many people (esp Minh) very very much.

Perhaps I should lay off the kimchee.

This morning at 7:30 when I showed up at my mom's to drive her over to the hospital, she looked me up and down and informed me matter-of-factly that I smelled like kimchee. Thanks, mom. BUT IT'S A GOOD SMELL!

And then, stayed at the hospital all day. She's doing okay, might go home tomorrow or the day after. I spent the day waiting for pre-op, then during the operation, then post-op, then the wake-up. I wiled away the time studying for my E. Asian art hist final until my brain went to mush and I began jittering in caffeine-overload. THEN, I finished reading The Stand, ate all the junk food I had with me, got lost in the hospital looking for a potty twice, and practiced the lifeguard art (hard-earned over a long two years) of sitting for a VERY long time without thinking anything at all. I'm not sure that's a skill I ever wanted to have.

Probably am not going to get paid this Fri cuz my aquatics supervisor (one of 'em) decided to be fucking lazy and dumped my timecard back into my box with a terse note for me to calculate my daily total of hours, which is something that the supervisors do. I found it MONDAY NIGHT. The admin process timecards on Monday morning. Hence, even though I fixed it (swearing loudly) and returned it immediately, it's not going to go through. FUCKERS.

I love having savings. My money, carefully squirreled away like that, has saved me many times in emergencies. I don't know how anyone can sleep at night without having any rainy-day money hidden away somewhere...

Off to shower. I smell like kimchee.

My mom's having a surgery (or two) tomorrow on her eyes. Will be incapacitated for most of a month. I'm worried. I'm moving back in with her for the final stretch to take care of her until she's ok before I move to Irvine, but after that, am worried about her. Part of the reason why I chose to go to Davis was to stay close to her while her divorce was being finalized so she'd have some support. Bborie goes to UCD now, but... you know.... supportive (emotionally, physically) is not a word I'd use to describe him. I love my brother, but there you have it. Aside from mom's wild plans to come and stay with me every few months or so (or I come back to No Cal every few months or so, which I'm planning on anyways), although I dunno how she'll survive with Missy around... I don't know.

Am still feeling rather geeky. I don't know why I keep clicking on Minh's little Kings of Chaos recruitment link even though I've SEEN him getting an evil glint in his eye at the thought of eventually catching up to me and from thence, kicking my ass. Grr. Not to mention Frank's coming back from Europe (where he apparently really, REALLY hates "the snail-eating frogs"--long ranting email, I dunno why I was included on the email list...) and bent on wreaking revenge on me for attacking him several times THREE MONTHS AGO. The boy seriously knows how to carry a grudge. I am very tempted to siphon his account of all the money I can carry off just so I can piss him off some more. Heheh. And also, Dave Toy just won't get a clue/life. Hm.

Good luck to Alex... have fun playing at Carnegie Hall. ^___^

Nihongo no tesuto is finally over. YEAHHH! One and a half hours into it, my brain was mush, my fingers cramped, my neck hurt, and I had irreparably jumbled the -te and plain forms together, not to mention the nightmare of -nai and various conjugations. Oh well. I think I passed. I don't think I'll be able to get an A, though. ;_;

I been thinking about adding a language minor (perhaps Japanese) but have mostly come to the conclusion that it may make things harder for me in that by the time I try to go for a PhD in Art History, I'll have to be at least reading level in three Asian languages, as I'm probably going to be focusing on Asian art history. However, I still (for now) wanna keep my options open for the other direction--European art history. If I choose to do that, then I'll have to know 3 European languages instead. But if I wanna do both (have an idea for a thesis)...then well, have to know 6. Apparently. In the Asian side, I have planned Japanese and Korean; Chinese I suppose I'll have to do no matter what despite my reluctance (fucking hard language) because that was the official written language of East Asia for a good long while. If I wanna do European (and I'm planning on taking classes in Irvine as well as the Asian ones), then I would like to do Italian and French. I already have a little bit of Spanish. Thank god for small favors. But see, if I focus on just /one/ language it may make it harder for me to make time to take the others. Hm. I like learning languages O_o;;... so at least they're functional in the real world... since I wanna go live in Italy and Japan (and maybe Korea, if they don't pay me less than half of a man's salary--maybe being American will help with that??).

Had been thinking of releasing some of the turtles. Have relinquished the thought now after giving em some feeder fish and discovering that their reflexes are like shit. They had the fish cornered and STILL couldn't catch em, instead making only a belated snap and banging their heads against the wall of the tank. O_O;; So sad.

Long entry... heh.

Someone save me! I'm watching dubbed Fushigi Yuugi! And if I have to hear bad voice acting and Chichiri saying 'ya know?' one more time, I will destroy something! AHAHAHAHAHA!

So.... I know one of ya has subbed FY somewhere, right? Right? Help...?

Well, the presentation went pretty good. I was stuck for a little bit in the middle, but was saved nicely by Octavia (my favorite turtle, who I'd brought as my visual) who'd decided to scream 'FREEDOM!' and try to make a break for it off the desk, on which I'd placed her. She entertained the class nicely espcially later when I let her wander around on the floor during break.

Some other people brought a ferret and hamsters, but my turtle was definitely cooler. XD

Okay. Finals n term papers n one more presentation left...

One B&N gift card.

Kanji dictionary vs. new Harry Potter book.

*weep*

*sigh* probably Kanji dictionary, cuz I can always go to B&N and read Harry Potter in one day.

Have Japanese 'presentation' tomorrow, which is basically 'get up there and talk about __________' for at least two minutes. The topic I chose was 'Watashi no neko'. I would have put 'Watashi no neko to ...turtletachi' but I didn't cuz I couldn't remember off the top of my head what the word was for turtle.

Am rather nervous. And, have another presentation on Wed in other class about jades in the Han dynasty, and have a term paper due on Tuesday. Joy.

Kimchee doesn't spoil does it?

The reason why I'm asking is because I've let it sit for a few months, letting it get good and fermenty and stinky so I can make kimchee jige which is probably the most scrumptious dish in existence, just as soon as I get off my lazy ass and actually make it, but today looked in the jar and realized that I don't have quite enough to make jige.

So, I'm eating it with rice. Hm. In jige, it gets boiled and whatever bacterium exists gets killed... but kimchee is quite toxic n pickled enough to be probably the most bacteria/mold resistant food in the world, right? (besides century eggs.)

I guess I'll find out, right? Pity it tastes so good with eggs, ramen, rice, fruit, crackers (damn near everything), otherwise I woulda thrown it away.

Life lesson #2: Avocadoes in cold, leftover omelets are quite nasty.

Minh cleaned out some of his computer parts yesterday. It was quite funny, because as he lovingly drew out each component, he would make the same reminiscent, nostalgic noises I'd make if I discovered a box full of old photos. *snerk* I hang out with too many computer geeks.

Got locked out of my car on Sunday. Cop busted locking mechanism on my driver side door while trying to jimmy it cuz he and some random passerby were trying to be all manly and wouldn't give up while I meeped fearfully in the background. They were very nice, tho.... O_O although Triple-A guy and I had a good laugh about it later... Off to Steve's again to fix yet something else on my car... haha.

And oh, my speeding ticket? Only $116.50 with traffic school fees. SWEET! ^___________^ *HAPPY DANSU*

I was checking my email and such online, my back turned to the tv. Then I looked back at the tv and saw a GIGANTIC JUMBLE OF HAIRY SPIDER LEGS AND EYES. (Two HUUUUUGE poisonous spiders mating.) Discovery Channel, dammit. I love it to pieces, but when they do spider documentaries.....ugh.

Oh... and there goes a badger eating that very juicy huge spider. Augh.

I read in a Newsweek a list of discarded ideas for 'reality' tv shows.... among them was, "Pimp House" *grins* in which five pimps live in a house, and well... pimp.

*LMAO* It's a shame the idea got sacked; I think I woulda actually watched it!

And oh:

How (Anime) Otaku are you?
brought to you by Quizilla

Whew. You're the perfect balance.

Yeah, I know some people who would get "SUPER UBER-OTAKU!!" *grins* like my classmate in Jap class who would rather go to Anime Expo than an all-expense-paid trip to France because "France will always be there". *eyetwitch*

This is on the back of a Ranma manga I found at the library:

"The story of a boy who turns into a girl...A father who turns into a panda...And the wierd Chinese curse what it did to 'em..."

*looks at it sideways* >_O If you get paid to write this shit, you'd think you'd at least get the grammar correct, right?

"Borrowed" the scanner from my mom the other day...Well, technically it's my dad's but ever since he left many years ago, I'm the only one who ever uses it, ergo, it's mostly mine now. XD Been mucking around lately drawing a bit for myself just for fun and am not so concerned about showing others... but am working on a Seph, Zack, n Ko for an art exchange for Aurie.

I've figured it out!

Scenario: Turtle gets bored. Turtle makes the Great Escape.

Solution: Place a deeper container full of water at the base. He climbs out, he falls in, he's stuck and in detention. And he knows it. *grins*

Interesting. Since he does that over and over again (not going out on any other side except that one) perhaps he does it for fun now...

I'd make additional entries but I think the crazy lady in the previous entry sucked up all the 'make interesting things happen to Bbora' karma for the week.

Today, I was guarding on the shallow side, happily minding my own business and generally trying not to get too splashed, when suddenly an overweight white lady heaved herself out of the lap lane (the other side) and stomped towards me. She thrust her face into mine, which was a scary sight, with her dirty blonde hair pasted down into a helmet on her head and her mascara melted into black streaks down her cheeks, and proceeded to rant at me for the next fifteen minutes. Hehehe. I don't quite remember /all/ the details, but here are the pertinent points:

-There are kids in the lap lane who are getting in her way.
-Two crashed into her.
-The parents and f***ing lazy ass lifeguards ignore such bad behavior.
-Ergo, you are a f***ing lazy ass lifeguard.
-Kids swim in lap lane because they want to pretend to be adults (not cuz they actually want to swim... hmmm....)
-And they get away with it because they are Asian. "80% of the YMCA is Asian, so the rest of us have to suffer for it!"
-Ergo, as a lifeguard, you play racial favorites.

I was SO tempted to scream, "I SPEEEKU NO EGILISU! YOU CLAZY LACIST CLACKER!"

*LMAO* Where do these people come from? But, rather perversely, she cracked me up and put me in a good mood for the rest of the night. She made my day. XD I hadn't encountered such blatant racism in a very long time around here, cuz people know better... (also, talking smack about certain racial groups will get you shanked. Or, in the rich people circles around here, sued.)

Saw The Italian Job too. It's a very entertaining movie... rather Ocean's Elevenish (gotta check who directed it)... but... it's mostly a two-hour-long commercial for the Mini Cooper. Seriously. Jeez. Nothing ruins a movie for me faster than blatant corporate sponsorship. It's a movie, not a fucking billboard!

Gotta watch Nemo. Very, very few movies ever get onto my 'gotta see' list, but gotta see this. I love Pixar. XD

At the dentist's office today:

Dentist: See? Just a little plaque there under the gum where your wisdom teeth isn't quite finished erupting... *SCRAPESCRAPE*
Me: *whimper, eye twitch*
Dentist: *scrapes harder* Just a little bit--
Me: *TWITCH* Mmmmmrgph!
Dentist: Okay, I'll stop.

When I showed up to Davis on Sunday evening, I was instantly attacked and clawed by five tiny kittens. I fell instantly in love, especially with one of them, the little runt female out of a pack of boisterous boys. I want to adopt her, badly. The kittens are being fostered by my brother's roommate right now for the ASPCA, until they're adopted.

My friends tell me that it's really not a good time, cuz I need to find an apt/move to Irvine, etc, and I agree! But you know... sometimes I get very tired of being so rational all the time. I can take care of a cat. Sure, it makes life a bit more inconvenient, but not unmanageably, and neither is the cost of maintaining a cat. If all goes well and the adoption goes through, then she'll stay w/ my brother until I get to Irvine in Aug or so and find a place, and then move.

*happy* Her name is currently Junior (cuz they named her before they discovered she's female) and I want to name her Missy. (The name stemmed from a convo I and the roommates had, cuz two of the kits were already named Tupac and Biggie... and so we discussed what the other kits would be named if they were named after other rappers [Eminem?].... so, she's Missy Elliot. *LOL* But Missy by itself is a very girly name, I think, so I liked it...)

And oh, got my compy back today. XD Don't have the energy yet to update my Sims (though my brother was nice enough to give me /all/ of the exp. packs, including Superstar--did I mention before I wub my obba?), so am mucking around happily online.

Ooooh, so tired. Somehow I feel I'm getting too old for this shit anymore. Perhaps it's going there to this 18+ rave and seeing all sorts of young kids doing stupid things--it's like, do your mom n dad know where you are? And do you even /know/ that guy you're sitting on who's currently groping you?... ... Or perhaps having to be designated driver all the damn time cuz I'm the oldest most responsible one with the car, and damn they didn't give me my gas money they promised, so I have no money to go to Davis later today, so I'll have to borrow from Minh.

Don't get me wrong, it was a lot of fun. Just felt old. Perhaps it's just a NorCal thing.

Came home really late to discover him passed out on the bed lol and guess who woke up this morning with huge hangover cuz he'd spent all night at a club and had one too many? LOL Well... but he's gone off to get over it by going running a couple of miles and swimming a lot of laps. It's really quite adorable when he does that sort of thing... I'd rather sit my lazy ass at home and sleep a bit more, so he does all the exercising for the both of us.

Off to Costco now! Couldn't sleep any more even if I'd wanted to... tho got home @ 4... (Being earlybird sucks sometimes)...

He-Man is such a wacko cartoon... a few decades ago, there a huge uproar about cartoons n comic book characters 'turning children gay' (*snerks over the Batman/Robin controversy*) and they toned the media down in response... but dude, He-man is running around half-nekkid, in furry undies! I know, I know... teach little boys to be macho and all that bullshit, but methinks they got a bit over-ethusiastic.

Not to mention that he rides around on a pansy-ass tiger, whacking people (esp. spandex n armor clad villians with a skull fetish) with his humongous sword.

I and most people of my generation grew up watching this! *laughing hysterically*

All righty... back to my art hist term paper about Tang funerary horse ceramics....

Off to Popsickle 5 tonight.... hopefully it's not /outdoors/, like the last rave!

The other day, during swim lessons, a parent came in, leading a child, and attempted to have him get in the pool. Problem? The kid was in his UNDERWEAR. Baggy tight-whiteys that are a size too big and HIDE NOTHING. (Not to mention, they turn transparent when wet.) When intercepted, the parent protested (seeing nothing wrong with the picture, obviously) that they'd forgotten the swimsuit at home, and it'd take too long to go back and get it. So, why not?
