Blogathon inspiration.....

I thought perhaps some of you could use some inspiration for your blogathon entries, so I'm going to humiliate myself for your blogging pleasure. Today the Canadian fleet was in our harbour, yes, both ships, so in keeping with my nautical theme weekend, I went over for a tour. The theme started last night when I saw Pirates of the Caribbean, you may have heard my excitement in the review I posted this morning. You may have also read it made me want to play pirates, and here's the humiliating part, I did. Hey, you don't quit playing because you get old, you get old because you quit playing. So all ye swashbuckling mateys and matettes, get ready for a good pirate yo ho ho and a chuckle....these will either keep you awake laughing, or trembling in fear that you know someone that would actually do this.

Ronnie Depp #1 Ronnie Depp #2 Ronnie Depp #2

The scariest part of these pics is, there was no alcohol involved!..shiver me timbers...mwahahahahahahahahaha

Aye matey, Pirates of the Caribbean is one of the better movies I've seen in a long time, not that I see many movies mind you, but perhaps I would if more were like this one. The casting is bloody brilliant all the way round, but Johnny Depp is exactly who a pirate should be in my mind. A swashbuckling rogue with a good heart and a quirky nature. Orlando Bloom is the perfect unassuming but very capable good guy, in love with our heroine although, he like most guys doesn't know it yet. Kiera Knightly is..well..Kiera Knightly, she's beautiful and vulnerable but at the same time more than capable of holding her own against a ghost ship of miscreants....shiver me timbers she makes an old salt like me feel as lecherous as a pirate. I remember going to the Saturday matinee when I was but a lad and coming out afterward feeling very excited by whatever I'd seen. Last night after the movie, I wanted to go play pirates, swashbuckle and sail oe'r the bounding main hunting for treasure. I'd say that makes it a great movie....I give it five out of five dubloons.

Coincidentally, I came across a pirate in my travels today, well as close as we have here in Canada.

Worth a thousand words....

In an extremely rare unintelligent moment Miss Anthropy recently posted what she refers to as, "humiliating pictures of herself", and is encouraging others to do the same. Perhaps living in Edmonton has finally pushed her over the edge. I'm not sure this is such a good idea, but that's never held me back before and we do like to think we're on the cutting edge of trends here in Calif. north, so, before my courage abandons me.....

The tie in this photo was my mother's idea, just a small one of the many reasons we don't speak any more.

Another highschool photo, keep in mind the style of the day was early hippy including long hair, needless to say, I don't attend reunions.

Finally, the ubiquitous Canadian hockey photo. Here the miserable teenage look was actually accommadated by adults. In case you don't recognize the ears, I've circled myself for you.
This must be how people on those reality shows feel, embarrassed but unable to stop themselves. Actually, my self esteem has come along way since then, and it's a good thing, because at my age embarrassment is a regular part of life.

Lightbulb moment....

Q: How many Canadians does it take to change a lightbulb?
A: None. Canadians don't change lightbulbs, we accept them as they are.

"read my lips" - George Bush Sr.
What part of this doesn't Dubya get? We don't want to play war with you junior.

"unless we learn from our mistakes, history is bound to repeat itself" - unknown
Perhaps this is a learning disability common to Texans? Obviously Dubya has never heard of LBJ.

"our armies do not come into your cities and lands as conquerors or enemies, but as liberators. Your wealth has been stripped of you by unjust men ... the people of Baghdad shall flourish under institutions which are in consonance with their sacred laws." - General F S Maude, commander of British forces in Iraq, 1917
Seems as if history class put Tony Blair to sleep as well.

"Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former" - Albert Einstein
Seems like the perfect place to end.

Coming out....

I was reading someone's blog the other day and they admitted to watching Jerry Springer. If I could remember who's it was I'd link to it, anyway, their sharing of hidden secrets impressed and inspired me to do the same. So here it is, you'd better sit down.........I listen to and actually like, country/pop music. I can hear the collective gasps, "who knew?" you're all saying, while looking scornful. But wait there's more, yes it gets worse......I dance and sing along, loudly. There, I've said it...whew, what a relief to finally get that out in the open, so liberating. Yes, it's true, and the easier to sing along with and the boppier it is the more I like it. I'm not talking pure country here, no George Jones or Willie Nelson for me, no, I like the popular stuff, Top 40 video genre, CMT kind of music. There's even a Spanish pop group, Las Ketchup, who's video has one one of those silly macarena type dances that I watch and, blush, know all the moves to. I think the root of this stems from my childhood, when all we had were 45 rpm single song records, and we would play them over and over and over singing every word. Having lost my childish innocence however, I now perform behind locked doors with the curtains closed. The neighbours have their uncertainties about me as it is, I don't want to give them anymore worries. If this confession into my lack of character hasn't sent you fleeing yet, you can listen to some of the music I'm referring to. Lock the doors, draw the curtains and plug in your headphones......cowboy hats are optional but add a certain mood.

The first tune is easy, grab something for a microphone, lean back and wail that chorus. If you don't know the words by the second verse you may have a learning disability.

The second one gets a little trickier, you will have to switch between air guitar and drums, as well as sing and move your hips a little. Don't worry, it starts slow and builds, much like your confidence as you get the hang of this.

The third and final song is a test of sorts, to see how far you've come, and remember, no one's watching. A slippery surface and stocking feet work best for this dancing tune. With both hands over your head do a sideways slide/shuffle, alternating from heel to toe, preferably on one foot while tapping time with the other as you go, then switch feet and come back across the floor. Using a floor sweeper for balance makes it easier and gets the chores done at the same time. Repeat these three songs till your out of breath or singing with a drawl, whichever comes first. If nothing else it's a good workout and it beats the hell out of Windsor Pilates. Later ya'll.

Enjoyable reading......

It's so nice to get mail. I received two more postcards today and a very special note. Thank you Lauren for sending me Lookingdown fish, much nicer than tobacco, and Dawn those streetcars are desirable. I also received a wonderful note from Becky. Thank you for sharing so much, I will be penning a reply at my coffee place in the morning.

A few links to recent blog entries, that I enjoyed reading very much.....whatever that's worth.

Good things come in threes....

Three new blog events of interest coming up. The first is Blogathon, a 24 hour blogging marathon in which you have to post a new entry every half hour. Participating bloggers choose a charity and others can sponsor them by donating to this charity. Although I won't be participating myself, I am sponsoring Becky, as we have a special connection and the charity she has chosen (the Canadian version) will be involved in my families life at some point. Here are a few other deserving bloggers looking for sponsors..Dawn..James..Kate..Kimberly

The second one is a photo event/meme.
The idea is to take pictures of twenty-six themes listed during the month of July and then post them on Aug. 1, 2003. Sounds like a fun summer challenge, especially since I've been neglecting Photo Friday/Theme Thursday of late.

The third one, and my personal favourite, is BURN-IT....The Summer Edition. This one's about music that makes you "hot". Go sign up, before July 15, 2003, you will then be put into a group with three other bloggers . Burn three CD's with music that makes you hot and mail them off before August 4, 2003. I'm already making my list and can't wait to see what CD's I get in return.

There you go kids, three times the fun you should be allowed to have in the month of July.....go crazy.
