Alright, who pulled the plug? Did anyone else see the news conference with the mayor of New York? Who were those two goons standing behind him? They were scarier than the power blackout. All this just points out that despite our so called technological advances, our grip on this earth is tenuous at best. Anyone back east want to borrow my flashlight?

One step at a time....

A new chair that climbs stairs and stands up. Our little guy will be putting in an order....I wonder if it helps read the greens? We're away for a few days, to a family get together/golf tournament in Metchosin. If you need me for anything, the number's on the fridge.

Who wants to help a millionaire?

Having trouble finding worthwhile charitable causes this month? Why not donate to the SaveMartha fund and help a down on her luck millionaire. It's a good thing.

Having barely had time to listen to my new CD's comes word of a new burn. It's called The Quintessential Burn Part Deux. This one is for all your favourite tunes, click the above link and sign up. I had fun both making CD's and listening to great new music on the ones I received.

Also, I just received my first Cd's from the summer edition of Burn-It. Thank you Kyle, srah and Dawn......more on this later, now back to regular programming.

Everyone under your desk...

We had thunderstorms move through our area yesterday, nothing serious, just enough to get the neighbourhood dogs in a tizzy. I took this nuclear shot looking toward Vancouver.

Another weather related note, floods, fires and tornados have hit Alberta. Some there, might interpret this as a sign of displeasure with the lack of a comments link on this entry by MissAnthropy.

A fellow blogger, Alvin, prides himself on being able to predict earthquakes. After reading this story today, I'm applying to be put on his early warning list.

The sun'll come up....yesterday

I meant to post these yesterday. I didn't sleep well Sat. night and was awake early, so I wandered down to the beach. I was the only one there, so quiet and peaceful. Here's how the sunrise looked to me.

Rockinronnie's movie reviews....

Last night we, my long legged blonde and I, watched two movies, Monsoon Wedding and Amelie. I thought Monsoon Wedding portrayed East Indians in a bumbling, farcical manner that has become a too common stereotype and treated the crime of sexual abuse against children far too lightly. More dancing and beautiful costumes could've side tracked me from this movie's shortcomings. If you've seen Hollywood Bollywood then you've already watched this video. On the other hand, I thoroughly enjoyed the second video, Amelie. It was fun, entertaining and whimsical. The casting was perfect, and Audrey Tautou was superb in the lead role. I'm not sure if it was her desire to help people or a certain childlike naivety in those eyes, but I loved her character. Oh, and this might seem an odd observation, but I loved the colours. The whole fantasy life and sense of mystery was very appealing somehow. I want to live a quirky, interesting lifestyle like that, maybe it'll start tonight.

Why do we always shake burned out light bulbs?

Two of the three interviews I conducted, are now posted. Lauren and Sonja have finished and posted their answers, hopefully the third will be up soon.

Is it just me, or is anyone else missing BobtheCorgi? I do enjoy a good bowl of soup, but I miss her humour and sarcasm. Perhaps we should start a recall campaign of our own?

Joseph Campbell On Marriage:

One of the things I have realized -- and people who have been married a long time realize -- is that marriage is not a love affair. A love affair has to do with immediate personal satisfaction. But marriage is an ordeal; it means yielding, time and again. That's why it's a sacrament: you give up your personal simplicity to participate in a relationship. And when you're giving, you're not giving to the other person: you're giving to the relationship just as the other person is, then it becomes life building, a life fostering and enriching experience, not an impoverishment because you're giving to somebody else. Do you see what I mean?

Sign of impending old age: my wife is away all week and so far the worst thing I've done is buy a family pack of Oreos and a tub of ice cream. Later kids, I'm going out on the porch and rock a while.

Late Night Blog with Christine.

I'm not usually big on blog quizzes, but this one seemed a little different. It's in the form of an interview, and as I'm always curious about my fellow bloggers, I thought I'd take part. You get to learn something about me and hopefully I will learn about you as well. Christine is asking me the questions, since I discovered this at her blog. If any of my readers would like to be interviewed let me know, and I'll send you five questions. Then you do the same and so on, and so on, and......hey, it can't be any worse than another Regis Philbin spot on Letterman.

1. I think your site Naked, Armed and Dangerous is a very cool blog indeed. I enjoy reading it very much.* And I'm always curious- what made you decide to create your own blog? Do you have any other sites that served to be your inspiration?
Since learning HTML and becoming somewhat geeky, I'd been searching for a creative outlet to practise my new skills. I enjoyed writing in school, but got away from it in my adult life. The idea of blogging appealed to me as a both a creative exercise and a way of communicating with others. No one particular site inspired me although a myriad of sites convinced me not to be a chronic whiner.

2. My mom and dad recently had their respective class reunions and it got me thinking about my past as a naive somewhat geeky somewhat loner girl. Were you popular when you were young? Or were you a geek who stayed away from the crowds like me? Or were you something entirely different? Explain.
Geeks had yet to evolve when I was in school. I liked learning and did well in school, until eighth grade, or puberty, arrived. At the time, I don't remember thinking I was popular, but in retrospect, I guess I was, although more popular with some than others. I tended to hang out with more than one group and got along with most people, pretty much as I do today. I don't mean to make it sound like a cake walk however, I had all the angst and self doubt that plagues most teens, and as I've mentioned it's only in retrospect I can make the above observations.

3. If someone offered you a free plane ticket to anywhere in the world (of your choosing) tomorrow, where would you choose to go and what would you wish to do?
China, and I'd like to explore the country on bicycle. (Since I'm a nervous flier, unless I'm sedated it's not likely to happen.....and me the father of a flight attendant with free passes!)

4. Here's an easy one: I just ordered pizza tonight since Sim won't be back till tomorrow, and I took delight in ordering the four-cheese pizza (cheese is something Sim doesn't go for). What topping(s) do you like best when you have a pizza? What topping(s) can you not stand?
Italian sausage, mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes, artichokes, most things.
I don't like anchovies, onions or shrimp on pizza.

5. If reincarnation does and were-to exist, what or who would you want to come back as and why? How would you be different?
Some kind of bird I think, possibly an eagle, definitely one that soars high, so I could observe without being seen, and be free to fly anywhere. Different, hmmmm, I like who I am, perhaps I'd be less of a perfectionist.

*(Author's note) I shamelessly left that plug in, since I get so few of them.

Yea, I'd say hustler pretty well sums it up.

Today was a holiday in our province, B.C. Day, and we do know how to celebrate. Is it any wonder I live here?

Friday bits n bites.....

I'm all for fiscally responsible government, but having the R.C.M.P. moonlight to make ends meet is just a bit much. Actually we're not that broke yet, it was all in aid of the Special Olympics. This guy looked a little nervous though, when he unwittingly pulled in with his dusty, smoke belching, old beater. No tickets were issued however and with service and a smile, they soon had their man, on his way. I tried convincing all of them to squeeze into their community cruiser for a photo op, but even with my donation, there were no takers. We had a chat with a chuckle or two, and it made my day seem better for having donated.

Today while buying cd's for Burn-it the Summer Edition at WalMart, I helped an elderly woman negotiate a congested area where they were having a promotion of some kind. She thanked me and said it was nice to know there were still a few gentlemen left in this world....I wondered if she would've said the same had I been wearing my pirate kit.

Finally, I heard this song a couple of years ago, but now they've added a Flash animation to it. Play safe kids, I have to go check my email.

Friday, August 1, 2003 06:50 p.m.

mine is entry #57 I managed to complete the latest photography challenge, in between dips in the river and visits from family. As with any creative endeavor, I'm happy with some and not so with others. The lack of time forced me to use some images that I feel could've been better, but then it's summer after all, and the livin is supposed to be easy. As I mention on the photo page, all the pictures are as I saw them, no editing of any kind. I enjoyed coming up with creative interpretations of the subjects, and travelling around my valley was a reminder of how beautiful my home is. My entry is #57 on the list at 26Things, or just click here and it'll take you directly to my photo page. I hope you enjoy them and please leave a comment when you're done.

Carbon copy...

A summer re-run.....or different day same drill. Yes, back to the relief of the river, it's so nice, kind of like a natural hot tub/spa but with cool water and a great view. This little guy is a fashion statement I can embrace. I thought we had a similar look, well, the hat and shades anyway...I want one of those hats, has a definite pirate feel to it. My long legged blonde came with me today, ooooooh, that water is clear...wink. This picture didn't turn out too well, there seemed to be a glare.......off the water...hehe. I love summer.

Wednesday, July 30, 2003 10:11 p.m.

A river runs through it.....

Here's a few photos of where I spent my afternoon yesterday, and will again today. Some of you may know that I live at the beach, but the salt water isn't as refreshing as the river and in this heat wave shade is also a necessity. The temperature is supposed to hit 35 degrees today(100 F.), that's hot no matter where you live. Last night my long legged blonde hosted a birthday/belly dance party in our back yard/garden. I was the official greeter, so got to meet all the lovely women, and some even stopped to chat and feign interest in my computer activities on the way out. Exotic women, computers and a cool river in summer.....it doesn't get any better than this.

Caution, slow moving blog ahead.....

Things are going to be a little slow here for a few days. I'm trying to complete 26Things and Burn-it, the Summer Edition. Oh, and it's almost thirty feckin(as Sonja would say) degrees here, far too hot to be in in front of a computer. Congatulations to all the blogathon participants who completed their challenges, especially Becky, Dawn, Kimmie, James, Kate and Cheri...well done. Now, I'm going down by the water where it's cooler.

Idleness is not doing nothing. Idleness is being free to do anything.
