Whatever I don't say.... When is a blog not a blog? Why, when it's Katie's blog, that's when. She's been away for a couple of weeks now doing the summer at the cabin trip, so there haven't been any new entries. Her blog lives on however, in the form of comments, in fact they've taken on a life of their own. At the last tally there were seventy-seven and counting....go on over and leave her a message, or join in the forum. As you'll see if you read through them, it's not important that you know her, in fact some are asking...Katie who?? Speaking of absence, doesn't it make you wonder when a blog suddenly disappears? I found suebailey.net through photography challenges, and now the link won't work. Hopefully it's just a technical glitch.....maybe the internet is down over there.

Word of the day..... Today's word of the day is attack-blonde. This new addition to our vocabulary comes from Kristin over at madpony. Apparently owning an attack-blonde is the latest trend for disgruntled shoppers in Oklahoma. Go have a look if you doubt me, but I must warn those of you who frequent malls, or just scare easily, the descriptive picture she posted may cause you nightmares...it's extremely graphic. Go look, you know you want to.

One liners.... Recently while attending Gay Pride festivities in Victoria I heard a string of one liners that still makes me chuckle. I was approaching a "queen" that was dressed very sexily in a tight, black dress slit up the thigh and stiletto heels, lounging back on a folding table. Another queen was seated beside her, back to the crowd, watching other tables being set-up. I got within a few feet, she made eye contact with me and noting my camera I believe, leaned back even more provocatively. While I waited for a line of people to stroll between us, she noticed a fellow without a shirt, holding hands with his girlfriend/wife in the group of people passing. Around this time her friend mumbled something about bending over tables....not missing a beat, and loud enough for all to hear, she huskily mused, "ooooh, bend me over that baby", all the time looking sexily at the bare chested guy...who pretended not to hear......she glanced back at me to see if I was paying attention, looked the guy in the eye and throatily asked, "mmmmm honey, can I take a number?"...as he passed, still too scared to acknowledge her, she looked back at me, rolled her eyes, glanced in his direction one more time, silently mouthed, "bitch".......and laughed.

Welcome to my neighbourhood.... If any of you are interested in seeing what it's like where I live, go have a look at our provincial PBS station's new website and click on the B.C. Moments link. They have some nice video clips from around the province. If it's of any interest to you, I lived for many years in the northwest corner of our province, the clip called Prince to Prince gives you a good look at what it's like there. I now reside where I was born, half way up the east coast of Vancouver Island. There are a number of clips that show what it's like on my island, although a couple are a few years old. You'll need to have Quicktime and Flash 6 installed, follow my links or theirs, both programs are quick and easy to install. Enjoy the movie and popcorn is available in the lobby.

Baseball brat it's wurst.... If you haven't already heard about this story, here's a link to Dawn's blog..she was there! At first, I like everyone else, was quick to criticize the baseball player for hitting a young woman with his bat. But perhaps we don't know the whole story, after all, in his mind he may have been flipping at a sausage. Maybe he was raised in North Carolina and the squeels of delight from the fans pushed him over the edge. Was there country and western music in the stadium at the time? Something that simple could've triggered a childhood memory of being tormented by Jimmy Dean singing Big Bad John on his parent's stereo. How do we know he wasn't abandoned in front of the television as a youngster and is severely traumatized at the sight of Bert. Maybe it has nothing to do with his childhood after all, although it's been said that professional athletes are just little boys who never grew up. Could it be that his fragile ego was crushed at not being invited to the tailgate party? If that's the case, he's cutting his own throat, and will be grilled by the fans every time he takes the field. Personally I think he's just a big weenie, but like bad barbecue the taste of this incident is bound to repeat on him for days to come.

I think Susan may have been in Victoria on the weekend, I saw her vehicle. Here's a few pictures from the weekend, since I cleverly deleted the best ones last night, these will have to do for now.

I've got mail.... My first postcard has arrived, all the way from Norfolk, Virginia. Thank you so much Susan. Apparently she was there working while the fleet was in.....ducking. Good news, Kimberly has received enough pledge money to hold good on a promise to dye her locks. I saw this do at the pride festivities on the weekend, it would solve the problem of which colour to go with and I think it looks great. We had a great weekend at Folkfest and Victoria Gay Pride. Although there were a lot of people, tourist numbers are down this year so it was quite bearable. There were some though, and it's always hilarious to see their looks when the parade starts down the main tourist street in the city. When a shapely, bearded man wearing a black sheath dress and stiletto heels sashayed by, a woman behind me stuttered out loud, "what kind of parade is this?". I explained what it was about, and a fellow behind her spent a few minutes patiently explaining awareness and acceptance, but I'm not sure she'll be an advocate once home in San Diego. The Folkfest was also wonderful, with lots of great performers and ethnic food from around the world. We were entertained with dancing and singing from Israel, Scotland, Latin America, Egypt and Turkey. The sun was out all weekend, and even though there is a nice breeze off the water, it was very hot, which curtailed my appetite somewhat, though I did manage to sample cuisine from the Philippines, China and Italy. A couple of things I was reminded of this weekend......we can all learn from kids, they don't care that women in the parade are bare breasted and have fluorescent hair, that men are wearing dresses, or that guys in pink panties and white fur chaps are riding tricycles...they could care less that there's a thousand people in the stands watching them in front of the stage...they dance, they sing and they laugh, happily and without worry of what anyone might think. Oh, and kids are smart enough to use sunscreen. The other reminder was that computer books are too dam expensive! Anyone have a book on PHP they want to sell cheap??
