Now, where was I?......

It's been a busy couple of weeks, hence the lack of posting. School started this week and it's going to be an intense semster, starting with Java, yikes. It is nice to be back though, lots of eager new faces, and belly buttons...lol. I swear the student body gets younger every year. Fall has arrived as Bran so eloquently describes it. My favourite time of year. We had a wonderful wind and rain storm yesterday, while I was snugly tucked in the library dispensing geeky help and today we are organising an Argentinian style barbecue for one of our daughter's, who lived there for a year. Lots of beef and dulce de leche over ice cream for dessert.....mmmmmmmmmmmm. If you don't want to take the time to make it at home, try this. On that sweet note, I have to run....more soon.....ciao baby.

On politics, music and marketing.....

This Canadian political story is good news for people like my grandson. It can't hurt that the Honourable Mr. Fletcher is the official Health Critic, but the exposure alone should help with accessibility awareness. His determination to overcome adversity is a good reminder for all of us.

and this from a Yahoo News article.....

Bush, locked in a tight re-election race, campaigned across three battleground states during the day and worked to extinguish a convention-week controversy of his own making. "In this different kind of war, we may never sit down at a peace table. But make no mistake about it, we are winning, and we will win" the war on terror, he told an American Legion convention in Tennessee, one day after saying he didn't think victory would be possible.
"I probably needed to be more articulate" he conceded in a radio interview with conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh....as my aforementioned grandson would say...ya think?
While I'm on the subject, I have a question for my American reader/s. Why is the Republican Party only now holding a convention to choose Dubya to represent them? Didn't the Democrats recently do the same with Kerry? Can someone explain this concept to me?

In my soon to be published 100 Things List, I mention that I've only ever attended one live concert. The music in a large stadium type of concert I mean. It was a Tina Turner performance and I enjoyed myself thoroughly. I would attend this one as my second if it were coming to my neighbourhood.

I still have those Gmail invites available. In fact they're starting to pile up, I now have six. Methinks this might be one of those Beanie Baby style marketing ploys by Google.

There goes the neighbourhood....

I wonder if, when Oprah wakes up in the morning and notes five things to be thankful for in her journal, buying the most expensive house in British Columbia is one of them? Here's the real estate agent's pre-sale listing.

What does one get for a billionaire's housewarming? Maybe I'll send her a piece of my garage sale garden art.

Although no one has confirmed it, I believe my RSS feed is now working. I also downloaded an aggregate reader and added all those with feeds of their own. What a time saver! Why wasn't management informed of this earlier? If there was a memo I certainly didn't get it. While I'm updating to the latest in ninetie's features, I've decided to do one of those "100 Things" lists. I've been working on it for two days now and so far I'm up to number ten.....stay tuned.

RSS/XML Update....

It works, it works! There's hope for me as a geek yet.

Sunday, August 29, 2004 11:03 p.m.

RSS, XML, HTML, WTF.....

I now have an XML/HTML RSS feed on my blog, or at least I think I do. I understand it in principle, but I'm not sure it's working properly, so if someone would let me know I'd be ever so grateful. As with most things techy, the previous annoncement was a tad premature. Mac has confirmed my suspicions, so right after I repair my chicken coop, I'll delve into the XML file and try to resolve the problem. What a dynamic and diverse life I lead. If anyone has suggestions or advice, please feel free.

Oh, and I still have two Gmail invites for anyone interested.....as you were.

Can I buy you coffee?.....

Snippets overheard today at my coffee hangout....

----smokers complaining about the price of cigarettes
----the same overweight smokers complaining about various health problems
----people complaining about how unmanageably busy they are...the same people who are sitting at my coffee hangout no matter what time of day you go there
----one line of conversation from a woman as she walked by.."and you're not even allowed to slap your kids these days"....wonder how she feels about slapping ignorant adults.

I sit on the patio, such as it is, for my coffee, and watch the traffic and people go by on our old fashioned main street. I sit and watch and notice things, however odd they may be.
I've noticed most people have a fear of parallel parking. From my observation post I see the looks of relief when someone discovers enough room to drive into a parking space forwards, and inevitably bounces the front wheel off the curb.
I study people's faces as they go by and have a tendency to categorize them. Every once in a while someone comes along that looks unique and I want to tell them so...but I don't.
I notice differences between women and men. Some are obvious....women tend to stroll, men are on a mission....women look in store windows and often stop, men are on a time sensitive mission.....women smile and say hi, men are on a serious, time sensitive mission. I prefer watching women. They just look nicer, that is, they've obviously taken time with their appearance before leaving home...again, men are on a mission and have no time for trivialities like personal grooming. And I assume that if you take time with your appearance you might enjoy a glance and an appreciative smile. Which leads to my next observation.
Now I'm sure this may seem obvious to everyone excluding myself, but(pardon the pun) I noticed women's derrieres move differently than men's. It's not for lack of studying the former but the latter that this was news to me. I don't think it had anything to do with my male security, more an indication of preference is all. Female cheeks bounce. There's a sassy little bop every time they step. Men's don't seem to do much of anything. Yes, it's as if they're on that mission again, no time for frivolities, whereas women wink cheekily with every step, flirting with anyone who takes the time to notice.....and I do. There is no point here, just an enjoyable observation from an appreciative guy.

I was buying cards for three of the women in my life today and noticed one that I thought was funny. For some reason it came to mind as I was writing that last bit....go figure.
Why do so many women fake orgasms?......Because so many men fake foreplay.

It's your turn to get the next latte.

A little of this, a little of that......

The hurricane that is two daughters, a son-in-law, three grandkids, and a Newfoundland puppy has come and gone. We had a wonderful visit and our newest grandson is as he should be, bright, happy and full of curiosity. He is a timely reminder of the important things in life. Don't forget to explore the world through play, whenever you hear music stop and dance for a minute and always have a blankey nearby so you can take a nap when you feel the need. My daughters and their children make me very proud.

Mary Lou asked for an update on the hens. They are fat, sassy and laying regularly.......just the way I like my girls. For the benefit of those here that aren't poultry people, I'll provide more detail in an email if anyone's interested.

I saw an ad the other day, for a restaurant advertising home style food. Am I missing something? If I wanted home cooking, wouldn't I just eat at home?

I mentioned in someone's comments the other day, that I wasn't interested in the Olympics. I take it all back. Who knew there was an event called bikini volleyball complete with cheerleaders. Which reminds me of a new word I heard this week....cheekage. I believe it's from a Greek word, meaning ratings.

Finally, I have two Gmail invites if anyone is interested.
