I found this over at Bran's. They're fun. Go try it. Yep, far too much time on my hands.

Sound check..one two, one two....

Yup we're now wired for sound. It would be nice to hear a few voices, that is if anyone still comes by here anymore. I'm too cheap to pay for the unlimited commercial version of this new voicemail feature so your message cannot be more than two minutes in length. Just a quick hello or happy summer will do....go ahead, you know you want to.

I'm backkkk...(again)......

I dropped by my friend Sonja's blog recently to catch up on the latest in her life, and was inspired enough to dust off the keyboard myself. In an effort to post regular entries here again, I am going to copy her style and keep my thoughts short and to the point. Without further adieu…..

I just went outside to check on my new chickens....4/5 month old ready to lay hens. They are happily perched for the night on the ramp leading into their henhouse/roost. Yes the very same roost I spent the last three days building in the midst of a record setting heat wave. About as appreciative as a boat load of Lebanese Canadians being rescued from war torn Berut. Ok a bit of a stretch I realise, after all the chickens have an excuse...their brains are the size of peas.

A picture is worth a thousand words.....(ironic pun intended)

The image that is America....

I keep thinking I'll wake up one day and find that Americans have been the victims of the meanest practical joke in history. The US gets Punk'd. Reality television to the nth. To my politically naive way of thinking Nixon was far less dangerous and they booted him off the island. Why Americans aren't taking to the streets, demanding Bush be removed from office is beyond me. Perhaps it's like the O.J series, people watched in fascination but since they themselves weren't directly affected, didn't question the outcome. Allow me to submit the following quotes as evidence.

Exhibit A

"I sent American troops to Iraq to make its people free, not to make them American. Iraqis will write their own history and find their own way." George Bush

"I'm the decider, and I decide what's best." George Bush

Exhibit B

President Bush spoke first, praising China as peaceful and prosperous. But he also called for more freedoms for China's citizens, saying the country "can grow even more successful by allowing the Chinese people the freedom to assemble, to speak freely, and to worship." from an article on US npr website

(obviously the defense department didn't get that memo).....

Web logs have provided a unique window into the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, allowing troops to bypass the mainstream media to detail their exploits. But these so-called milblogs are increasingly serving as forums for policy debates, such as the effectiveness of the war strategy or how to deal with Iran's nuclear program.
There are hundreds of milblogs, and the Pentagon, which has cautiously supported some of them but also has deep concerns about the ability to control them, recently ordered a top level advisory panel to study the issue.
'' 'Googling' and 'blogging' are making their way into military operations at all levels," Kenneth Krieg, the undersecretary of defense, wrote in a recent memo requesting that the Defense Science Board look into the matter. 'But the full implications of this revolution are as yet unknown, and we have no clear direction and defined doctrine." from an article on the Boston Globe website

Here's a more enjoyable image. This one's on a webcam in an eagle's nest on Hornby Island which, as the eagle flies, is just a couple kilometers from here. While we are lucky enough to have a similar nest in our backyard and enjoy watching and listening to these beautiful creatures, this is far more up close and personal. Reality television meets the symbol of America, in Canada. The webcam is of course only visible during daylight hours in the Pacific time zone. Recorded footage is played during the night.

Gurlzzz rule, boyz drool...

I happened across this article the other day, while sipping coffee at my favourite people watching cafe. I have always thought the world would be a far happier, more peaceful place if women were in charge. I suppose this comes from being part of so many amazing women's lives. I have an inspirational partner/wife, five amazing daughters and many wonderful female friends. I have, and continue to learn much about life and happiness from them all. I've circled a quote in the article that reminds me of one friend in particular. She speaks out when she has something to say, and I admire her for it. Something we all should do more often. Singin...I am women here me roar...in numbers too big to ignore....
