I've got mail.... My first postcard has arrived, all the way from Norfolk, Virginia. Thank you so much Susan. Apparently she was there working while the fleet was in.....ducking. Good news, Kimberly has received enough pledge money to hold good on a promise to dye her locks. I saw this do at the pride festivities on the weekend, it would solve the problem of which colour to go with and I think it looks great. We had a great weekend at Folkfest and Victoria Gay Pride. Although there were a lot of people, tourist numbers are down this year so it was quite bearable. There were some though, and it's always hilarious to see their looks when the parade starts down the main tourist street in the city. When a shapely, bearded man wearing a black sheath dress and stiletto heels sashayed by, a woman behind me stuttered out loud, "what kind of parade is this?". I explained what it was about, and a fellow behind her spent a few minutes patiently explaining awareness and acceptance, but I'm not sure she'll be an advocate once home in San Diego. The Folkfest was also wonderful, with lots of great performers and ethnic food from around the world. We were entertained with dancing and singing from Israel, Scotland, Latin America, Egypt and Turkey. The sun was out all weekend, and even though there is a nice breeze off the water, it was very hot, which curtailed my appetite somewhat, though I did manage to sample cuisine from the Philippines, China and Italy. A couple of things I was reminded of this weekend......we can all learn from kids, they don't care that women in the parade are bare breasted and have fluorescent hair, that men are wearing dresses, or that guys in pink panties and white fur chaps are riding tricycles...they could care less that there's a thousand people in the stands watching them in front of the stage...they dance, they sing and they laugh, happily and without worry of what anyone might think. Oh, and kids are smart enough to use sunscreen. The other reminder was that computer books are too dam expensive! Anyone have a book on PHP they want to sell cheap?? Here's a few pictures from the weekend..*^$!#%#$^&%*#^^!!!!.....that's me cursing...while resizing my pics for thumbs, I deleted the big ones...&&*#%%$%^&**$&&*((*!!!!!.......too ticked off to continue tonight, I'll put some others up tomorrow, but they're not the best. In the scheme of life, this is a minor issue I know, morning will look better.....grrrrrr.

Happy Birthday America
A lot of the world likes to criticize the U.S, me included at times. Today however I'd like to say, the Americans that take the time to stop by here, are nothing but nice, caring people....as I'm sure are the majority of their fellow citizens. So let me wish all of you a great Fourth of July and Happy Birthday America. Throw a hot dog on the grill for me please, and pass the Bud.

Get your ducks in a row.... The birthday bash is over, kind of anti climactic really...a small town parade, food booths and some local entertainment. The highlights for me were a wonderful meal from the Dominican Republic and a guy falling from a boat in the river. Let me explain...as part of the attempt at creating events which will get the community out, a local service club sponsors the Ducky 500. This is a race in which plastic ducks, purchased individually to support charity, are released into the river and awarded prizes depending on the order they finish. The finish line consists of a rope strung across the river, with a flotilla of small aluminium boats tied at intervals. Now our river is tidal, and this happened to be low tide, so although not deep it was running quite swiftly, you're probably starting to see where this is going. With most of the town watching from the river banks and the bridge over head, duck retrievers were ferried out to the armada. For some reason, they were deposited in the aluminum boat closest to shore and then they comically clambered from boat to boat. One poor fellow didn't make it.. half way across, he went overboard. He bravely hung half in, half out of the boat, doing his best to save himself by drinking the river dry. Finally after struggling heroically for a few minutes, he succumbed....yep, that's right, he gave up, let go, abandoned ship....I wonder if his life flashed before his eyes? It probably did when he quit panicking and stood up in less than two feet of water while the crowd cheered and clapped. He spent the next fifteen minutes standing in the river, one foot in the now submerged boat, trying to look cool and pretend no one had seen him. Candy and I were still chuckling when we got home...oh, and as a footnote, all the young people in the boats were wearing life jackets, but of course not the macho guys. Quack.

Caution, repeat post... If your postcard is in the mail, ignore this entry. You've got no mail. I never get mail, the postal type I mean. Well, other than bills, so I thought, since shamelessly begging for a button worked so well, I'd try it with mail. Here's the deal, send me a postcard that shows something of where you live, write a couple lines...hello how are you? I am fine will do...glue on a stamp and pop it in the post. What's in it for you?...well, other than satisfying a dying boys last wish...ok, no one's dying, but if you include a return address, I will send you one from where I live. If you're interested, here's my address: Rockinronnie Pritchard, General Delivery, Union Bay, B.C., Canada, V0R 3B0

Happy Birthday Canada In honour of Canada's birthday today's entry is all things Canuck. Some links where you can take a tour on your computer. Take a quiz and test your knowledge of the great white north. Get the latest news eh. All you ever needed to know about our government. Learn the language, some Canadianisms. More Canuck trivia.
Watch the party from Parliament Hill in our nation's capital, Ottawa. Take a look at a map of our vast country and another map of the province I live in, British Columbia. And finally, some of our money....yes, it's real.
So I'm off to the parade with camera in hand. It's a small community event, but there's usually a pipe band and lots of ethnic food in the park afterwards. I'm so glad we're a multi-cultural country. C'mon over, I'll buy you lunch.

God's coming.........and is she pissed There have been, and continue to be, a lot of women in my life. My grandmother had eight children, seven of them girls. I have two sisters, five daughters and a granddaughter. I am both divorced from and married to a woman. There was a point in my childhood, while being bullied, that I thought I would prefer being a girl. This wasn't a sexual desire, hmmm, although there is my heel fetish. No, I just admired their non violent, unaggressive ways. The women in my life constantly amaze me with their intelligence, compassion and understanding of the world. And they continue to love me, so I like to think some of it's rubbing off. Mind you, what's not to love about a guy who appreciates Manolo Blahnik.
Here are some other women who amaze, inspire and instill in me hope for the future.
