Men and women behaving badly....

Sometimes, no, a lot of the time, I'm embarrassed to be a guy. In fact, it's a wonder to me that more women aren't lesbians. Not only do we expect women to be our mothers and look after us there's the whole toilet seat issue, and now this. What is the infatuation with cartoons that grown men seem to have? Does it ease their male insecurities to be transported back to the breast feeding years? Try and convince women that the male programming genius who came up with this idea has more than a double digit IQ. I think Conan O'Brien advertising there, sabotages any argument you might make. I realise television isn't the most intelligent of mediums, but trying to pass this off as sport? C'mon guys, you wouldn't find women watching this kind of juvenile programming, although, there are the soaps. I don't think we'll be seeing Y.& R. on PBS anytime soon. Oh, and let's not forget The View, Hollywood showbiz marketing at it's best. Wait a minute, now that I think of it, there is a cartoon for women. A round of Buds for the girls. Guys, if you're not sure what a rhetorical question is, you'd better get out the dictionary if the woman in your life watches this show. Here we thought it was just men who behaved badly. Maybe there is one show that would appeal to both sexes....Xena, Warrior Princess. Women have all the power, kick men's asses regularly, and we enjoy having them kicked.

Summer and the livin is easy.....

The weather here hasn't been blogger friendly of late. It's just been too dam nice, there's a warm laziness in the air. Every time I start to write, something comes up, like a stroll to the beach or around the yard, a trip up town for an iced mocha, good food, and once today, a nap overcame me while I contemplated all that is bloggy. Candy says it's just a matter of priorities...I think I have mine in the correct order.

Many of you know that I volunteer in a community computer-access centre two afternoons a week. There are only four computers in this rural centre, and for the most part, it's the kids who use them. Most of them are good at sharing and use them responsibly, but last week two "tween" girls got out of line and I asked them to leave. They refuse to share and are addicted to chat rooms, in my opinion, questionable chat rooms. Now there are those that might raise their eyebrows at some of the places I've been on the net, but I'm an adult and in my mind there's a difference, however I'm not these children's parent, so mostly I asked them to leave because of their rudeness to me and the other kids. They left hurling insults my way, and swearing they'd never be back. As withdrawal set in, they returned three times that hour trying to coerce me into allowing them back. My cyber censorship however, remained online. This week one of them silently appeared and handed me this note. She gave me her best, "you pitiable adult", teenage look while I read her plea for a cyber fix. I didn't have the heart to tell her that whoever she had write the note for her, inadvertently signed their own name to it. I smiled, thanked her for the apology and thought, with her cuteness and car salesman honesty she should go far in life. I'm so glad my kids are grown.

If you're the kind of person that's easily excited, you might not want to read any further. I now have a bumper sticker on my vehicle. Yes, that's the kind of stimulation we have to deal with on a regular basis around here. One of our local coffee shops is named the Comox Grind, and the young women there refer to themselves as the grind girls. Always one to support the young among us, I'll gladly promote girls who regularly out perk the coffee they brew. Also on a coffee note, my blonde snapped this photo today as she snuck up on me. She said I looked arty writing a letter and sipping my ice mocha. Now I realise art is a subjective thing, but I photoshopped it a little, just in case. Ok kids, someone pass the aloe vera gel, tomorrow's another sunny day.

Night moves....

Work tonight......sigh. I think it's the last minute call in that gets me, because once I start driving, I quite enjoy the night. I'll turn up the oldies station, browse a few windows along the way and enjoy the warm night air, hope they play some Bob Seger. I'll try and sing quietly so I don't wake you.

Peeping Ron.....

I like looking in people's windows. Not in a perverted sense, although there are those that might call my love of women in heels, slightly perverted. No, I mean from a distance, and, unlike usual peepers, bedrooms don't interest me. I like looking at living spaces, and dusk is my preferred viewing time. I think this voyeuristic tendency began in my youth, while delivering papers door to door. My family didn't go visiting a lot, and rarely to people's homes other than relatives, so I was fascinated with what I saw through anonymous windows. Now, on those evenings when I work, I enjoy the quick glimpses afforded me while I drive. Sometimes, it's just the way a window is lit that interests me....there's one older gal who lives in a mobile home, with green fluorescent lights behind her old fashioned sheers, and one home sits alone in the middle of nowhere, lit solely with a red light bulb. Then there's the splashy monster home that sits directly across from the beach, windows from roof to foundation, and lit like Martha lived there. Mood lighting in one room, pot lights in another, mixed with fluorescent and recessed lighting in cabinets and bookcases....a beautiful home, every room on view, and I have yet to see a soul in the place. Sometimes there are people, mostly watching televisions, which have become bigger and now seem to be up higher so as to be seen by the neighbourhood. There's an elderly lady who sits at her table watching the highway every night...is she lonely or waiting for someone? One of the most intriguing, is an older two story boxy house, close to the highway. The curtains are drawn wide, as if there are none, and candles burn everywhere, on the living room window sill, behind on a high table and on top of a bookcase. These are the tall, thin candelabra type and they also burn on the kitchen table and counters. A youngish man with long hair sits at the table and stares out into the dusk. Meditation, witchcraft, good drugs? I wonder if I was ever to be invited inside, would these people's stories match my imagination? I've heard it said, that the popularity of the new reality television shows, is due to our natural voyeuristic tendencies....maybe I should start watching.

Bonjour mes amis.....

Happy St. Jean Baptiste Day/Fete Nationale to Paulineee and any other Quebecois that might visit here.

You've got no mail. I never get mail, the postal type I mean. Well, other than bills, so I thought, since shamelessly begging for a button worked so well, I'd try it with mail. Here's the deal, send me a postcard that shows something of where you live, write a couple lines...hello how are you? I am fine will do...glue on a stamp and pop it in the post. What's in it for you?...well, other than satisfying a dying boys last wish...ok, no one's dying, but if you include a return address, I will send you one from where I live. If you're interested, here's my address: Rockinronnie Pritchard, General Delivery, Union Bay, B.C., Canada, V0R 3B0

Stay safe kids....bonne nuit.

Apparently my "comments" host is down, AGAIN....so tonight(Sunday) my page is loading slower than a glacier moves in a heat wave. Sorry for the inconvenience, and if any of you have any recommendations for reliable comments hosting...puullleeeeeeeze let me know.
I now have a new "comments" host...so my page should load much faster.......thank you Lauren, may your students land a triple lutz-triple loop, and go on to the Olympics.

Sunday shorts....

Everybody go say welcome home to Kimmie and while you're there, give her a big hug and congratulations. It must be such a relief...way to go Kimmie and your Mom, and Jenny.

You've tried those IQ tests, now take James' personality quiz. He has a theory, that you can tell something about people by what they choose as a background on their desktop. Here's mine, what does it say about me? Perhaps my coffee table, which sits right next to my desktop, says more.
(Press the PrintScrn key, and then paste into any imaging/graphics program...Paint works.)

I'm not sure about this whole VoiceMonkey thing. Susan aka BobtheCorgi, after noticing my Speak button, tried to convince me to use it. Her friend Petey has some ideas. First, unlike Susan, I can't sing. I do sing, I just don't sound good. Second, when it comes to poetry, I prefer to read rather than listen to it, much like the whole movie verses book kinda thing. Third...Jokes...I've already heard the one about Dubya, Osama and a goat. Fourth...Weather or road reports. Well, I am Canadian, so the weather is an important part of my culture, but I'm inside, on my computer. If my neighbours are peeking in my windows with me in this state of undress I'd appreciate a call, if it's raining save your dime. Five...I much prefer the sound of a sexy, female, British, voice even if it is computer generated, than mine. Mostly though, it's because I'm a guy. A normal phone conversation for me, of which there are few, would go something like this; Hello.......Okay, or No (depending on the question asked)...Bye. I do suppose there's a certain curiosity involved, in wanting to hear what a given blogger sounds like. So, if somebody would give me an idea of what to say, I could record a .wav file and post it here. One at a time now.

The search for Katie continues. Officials are concerned that after this length of time, sobriety may have set in and she may be confused about her whereabouts. Family and friends are remaining positive however, and noted that there are a number of small town taverns in the area. Their hope is that she may have fallen into one and be safe, but unable to get up and use the phone. Rescue efforts will continue as soon as pubs open in the morning.

Later kids....hey, call me when ya get home k?

God save the Queen....

I'm thinking Prince Philip might have had something to do with this honour being bestowed on Mr. Choo. And my, my, my..hasn't stepping out at Ascot come a long way. Perhaps these match the Royal crown? All I can say is, the corgis better not get under foot if she wears them for Philip in the Royal bedchamber.

Click my new speak button at the top of each post. You will here a software generated, sexy British female voice, vocalize the first few words of each new entry. I found it via Dawn, who found it at Chris Pirillo's, who got it from Loyd and Dane and on and on. Don't you just love blogs? Once you get the code, you can choose from a number of voices and accents. I picked Audrey, simply because she sounds good. What's that? I can't hear you....speak up.

This week's submission to Theme Thursday Letting Go
click to let go

click if lostThis item out of Kent, Wash. King5 News is reporting a hiker overdue on Rattlesnake Ledge. Officials say that a note from the missing hiker, has been found, and it appears she may have wandered off looking for more vodka. Search and rescue is reminding hikers to carry an emergency supply of vodka while in the back country so you can stay in one location and make it easier for searchers. The missing hiker's family when contacted, seemed unconcerned, saying she usually finds her way home once she sobers up.

You're the United Nations!
Most people think you're ineffective, but you are trying to completely save the world from itself, so there's always going to be a long way to go. You're always the one trying to get friends to talk to each other, enemies to talk to each other, anyone who can to just talk instead of beating each other about the head and torso. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, and you get very schizophrenic as a result. But your heart is in the right place, and sometimes also in New York.
Take the Country Quiz at the Blue Pyramid

via Becky

Apparently I'm an insightful linguist and my iq is 129. I think this means I talk too much, and I know double digit iq isn't a good thing, but what's 129? Speaking of good things, this test and an hilarious link to a "decorate Martha's cell" contest, all came via Dawn.

Tonight's the big night kids, Jewel is appearing on Craig Kilbourn...set your vcr's.
