Naoe and his charge from Honou no Mirage (Mirage of Blaze), an anime about samurai, reincarnation, second chances, and shounen ai angst. At least, that's what it looks like from the opening.
Layout created by Leareth, who also did the picture, using screencaps from the Honou no Miage opening.

Leareth-babe!
=P I just had to say I had similar bad thoughts during Spiderman... but I managed to push them back the first time, and so gave them free reign the second time. ^_^
It got really bad, because I was joking around with my evil twin. First, there's plenty to work with between Spidey's and the Green Goblin's alter-ego's. =P
And of course, there're the inevitable bad thought during the scene you mentioned.
But the mental low point had to be when Norman's talking to his son (name slipped me right now), and my evil twin says something about him going after his own son now (geh)... And then Osbourne says the word "rectify."
...
I hope no one else knew why I burst out laughing there... -.-;

Hmmm... why do I want more manga, when I've got more than enough for the moment?

Hmm...

Things are, of course, still interesting in manga land...
...and anime land, but in a different way.
I tried out the Kusatta Kyoushi no Houteishiki anime...
Dude, that anime should come with warnings about keeping it away from combustibles! I was shocked that my monitor wasn't on fire!
Yes, I found that show to be full of flamers.

I finished my one little volume of Vampire Game and I want more!
...Although, Canon by Shiomi Chika can keep me well-occupied, too.
It's full of vampires, angst, betrayal, and all those good things.
Too bad I'll have to search high and low to find volumes 3 and 4!
...
That's the drawback to the whole big sale... You try new series with almost no risk... But if you like it, good luck finding the rest of it!
Geh... and there's a few of them where I could get all but 1... and if I like them, that 1 is going to be the kicker...

Oh, I saw Minority Report. I enjoyed it.
I say it's a movie that you definitely have to see in the theater... but I can't say as it will have much rewatch value.
Wasn't able to catch much of John Williams score, since in most of the quieter spots where you could catch the music easily, it seemed to be some classical piece or other... But I liked the theme music during the end credits (which I watched all of).

cheese...

More proof that my twin brother is the evil one:
Volume 11 of Vampire Game just came out in March.
Kyaaaa! A bunch more added to the must-get list!

Well, for now, I found the Judal homepage. There are some cute pics there. ^_^

Oh... and I was serious about if anyone wants that yaoi manga I mentioned in the last post.
...
The artwork is good -- that's how it caught my attention... I just don't like the subject matter...
...
Will accept all reasonable offers + postage.
...
...and considering how little I paid for it, how little I like it, and the fact that I don't believe in throwing away and/or burning books -- I'd consider a pack of Haichuu or a box of Pocky to be a more-than-reasonable offer! =P

There is such a thing as too much manga...
I'm like Kiki going into ferret shock. ^_^;
(that's a Sluggy reference, for the non-Sluggites in the audience =P)

Yeah, so I don't know where to begin.
I started looking at a couple my evil twin insisted that I get, to show some form of appreciation for the time...
One of them is called Apple Tender. ... No, I don't get the title either, but he insisted I had to get it because it looks like stereotypical mahou shoujo. ^_^
Another one is Vampire Game. It's interesting that he should have grabbed that one, since it's by Judal, and I was considering trying some stuff by that mangaka. It's one of the ones he grabbed and said I had to try, no matter what...
And I'm really liking it. ^_^ It's cute. And my evil twin gets a kick out of the vampire king in cat form.
...Now I'll just have to find later volumes. -.-

It also looks like I got some decent yaoi/shounen-ai volumes. ... some ... one of them I should have checked more carefully... but my brother was rushing me and I remembered from an insert in another manga that it looked interesting...
...not only does it have rather shouta-ish characters in rather graphic situations... but said shouta-ish characters are brothers (geh) ... and the uke older brother gets abducted and... shared (phrasing here is to avoid unpleasant search engine hits)...
So... it has at least 3 kinks that don't work for me...
Anybody else interested? =P

Mm... pizza just got delivered...
Well, I'll just say that I also grabbed a couple volumes of Lumen Lunae since people have been going on about it (they weren't on sale, though) and a Higuri You manga (which was).
mmm...food...

Well, I'm back from the back of beyond...
Actually, the trip home wasn't too bad. Everyone seemed to be in a much better mood than the last time I went...
And my sister's cat likes me. ^_^
...probably because she's neurotic. I seem to attract neurotic animals.

^_^ I saw Lilo and Stitch. It's cute, it's funny, it's all that and a pack of macadamia nuts.
Now, I have to see Minority Report -- the other movie that opened Friday that I really want to see...

Whee... dragged my evil twin out of our way on the drive up to go to the new Mandarake in Santa Monica...
;.; Only to be disappointed.
It's half the size of the old one... with 1/3 the selection! They were pretty much just sticking to what they thought would make money.
It would have been really great, if I didn't already have all the YamiMatsu volumes to date, or if other more current titles on my list hadn't gotten bumped down...
...but I was thoroughly dejected.
...
I felt much better on the trip home, when I dragged my evil twin way out of the way to go to the old store...
Their selection was of course depleted, but I found a few of the older series that I wanted to get more of (like Matendou Sonata and Morino Aki's Kanbayashi & Kirika mystery series), and to grab some other ones that I wanted to try out (from all the evil Akita Shoten inserts)...
...and to get about 80 more intriguing volumes! *_*
They've stepped up the clear-out sale to "fill a box for $15!" ... So I filled a box -- with my evil twin helping.
Now, he doesn't read any Japanese, so he doesn't get much out of this shopping experience... but his help is interesting -- and he's the one that insisted I should try Crystal Dragon.

Yeah, so he helped me pick out some more...
Evil Twin - "These look interesting."
Me - "I don't know... I'm not certain about the art style."
ET - "I like it, and it looks like something you'll like, so get it."
...
ET - "Hurry up. We need to go."
Me - "Alright, alright... I think this will do it!"
ET - "Oh, look at this!
-.-;
Yeah, so his help is interesting...
But I suppose it's strange to have your twin brother helping you browse yaoi...

Oh, and when we [finally] get back to the car:
ET - "Oh, and I threw in some manga with a crazy, attacking, mechanical panda!"

-.-;;;

Have fun! =P~~

...poo... I have to go visit the rest of my family for a few days...
And I don't even know that I'll have internet access to soften the blow.

And grr! Popmail is still down.
*Anyone who requested the password for the doujinshi in the last week or so, gomen nasai! I don't know if the messages are being held or not.
I any event... no one's likely to get it soon...
And they won't know the problem unless they read this...

Well... I think I'm actually getting yaoi'd out for the time being...
You wouldn't think it possible...
Well... I guess my problem is that I can so rarely find exactly what I'm looking for...
The shounen ai manga I picked up recently are all a little bland. It's not that I want more sex in them (although, I have seen racier tidbits in Hane to Yume, Bonita and Princess) -- it's that I want more passion. There's plenty of kissing, and some sex... but it's almost all lacking the passion that makes it affective.
...And there's very little angst, too.... (and I'm not the angst addict that Leareth is) ...
...
...And then there's the stuff in doujisnhi, and apparently a good portion of the serious yaoi...
...Which seem to be mostly emotionless, often crude, and still low on passion sex.
...There doesn't seem to be a lot in between.
Except perhaps Level C. From what I can see about it, yes, it's chock full of graphic yaoi action (eh ... I think I'm in for a bad search hit on that phrase)... in various positions... But, the seme seems to be considerate of the uke and he's engaged in the act as much as the uke is.
I'm tired of the pattern of forced relationships (where the uke enjoys it all against his will and "falls in love" with his abuser); uke who say "no" meaning "yes" (which adds to how yaoi authors/artists seem to trivialize rape); portraying obsession and love as the same thing; and seme who are disengaged during sex, driving the uke to mindlessness while scarcely breaking a sweat....
...um yeah... I have a lot of beefs with common yaoi...
...but Level C seems somewhat different, at least.

...And then most of the sites on the Japanese yaoi webring seem to be shota-heavy.
...And seem to follow the no middle ground pattern.

Oh well...

Oh, everyone guess what nice preview they have before the Scooby Doo movie?
Let's just say, one shot of an owl and a bit of music had me ready to tell all the brats in the theater to shut up.
Good thing they did on their own!
They probably all wanted to see the Harry Potter preview as much as I did. ^_^
...Hehehe... the only other previews to get that strong a reaction out of me are Star Wars previews... And probably previews for the next Lord of the Rings movie.

Yep, so my evil twin and I are already looking forward to the next HP movie...
And I'm wondering who'll be playing Tom Riddle...
...And I'm glad, what with the delays and all, that I have enough other obsessions that I'm not tearing my hair for the next book like my brother is. ^_^

Hyaa... I need to get back to my writing...

10:34 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2002

Grrrr... popmail's been down for a couple days now... grrrr...
I hope nobody's been requesting the password for the dj's recently...

Anyway... I thought directories could be viewed on that server, but apparently not.
And if anyone emailed me about it, I couldn't see it. -.-;
Anyway... If any of the 10-odd people who look at this blog wanted the screencaps, etc:
Original zip of screencaps, Ep 5 caps zip, ED music mp3.
There's as much Mirage of Blaze goodness as I can offer now.

Hmm... I didn't directly mention it before, but one of the series I picked up a few volumes from was Amagi Sayuri's Matendou Sonata. The art isn't the best at the beginning, but the characters are just so adorable and likeable that I can't help but get hooked on this series.
And... y'all can check out information on it here! There are even translations, so I feel fully justified in attempting to hook y'all on this manga.
Oh, and there've been recent reprints/reissues of the manga, so it might even be easier to find than some other older series. ^_^

Hmm... I want to meet Asami Yuu. She's the mangaka who creates the wonderful A.I. Revolution. She just seems like an interesting person.
From her manga, her sense of humor seems similar to mine, and in her free-talk type areas where she draws herself... ehehehe...
There's one where she's on vacation and sees 2 guys hanging out by a fountain where a bunch of lovers are meeting. She gets all excited at the thought that they could be a gay couple... and gets all pissed off when their wives arrive to meet them. ^_^;
And she draws one of her friends as the villain...
And then there was one where she's sitting and drawing with a fellow mangaka. The other one starts talking about how she can't help but take the same expression as the characters she's drawing.
...
Asami-sensei's response:
"Come to think of it... you were drawing a yaoi manga recently...
"So, when you draw ann ecchi scene, you definitely get an ecchi expression...?"
*WHAP*
hehehe... I just really like that manga, and how the artist portrays herself.
....And she's another Final Fantasy fan (joining Matsushita Yoko and Tanemura Arina in the ranks of favorite mangaka of mine who love FF games)! She draws a really cool Sephiroth.
Oh, and there's a fansite for her here!
And you can see some more pics here, along with summaries of some very cool-sounding Japanese novels that she [very nicely!] illustrated.

Now... to spread evil in other ways...

Oh... one more thing really quick...
I threw the mp3 of the MoB ending music in that directory, for however long I feel like. I got the mp3 off audiogalaxy... and it's quite pretty.

11:05 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2002

Lookee, lookee! Leareth-chan made me a much nicer Mirage of Blaze layout!
...When I said she could make a layout w/ the screencaps, I meant she could make a nice Naoe one for herself. ^__^
Well, I'm not complaining about the slight misunderstanding.

And speaking of MoB, I finally got episode 5!
Why can't the people at Ishin Digital translate and sub it faster? ;.;
I want the next episode!
Well... I am happy that they're doing it at all... so I'll be quiet now...
...And offer y'all ep 5 screencaps! They're in this directory, along with the zip of the caps for the first 4 eps, and the layout pics. ^_^;
Anyway, I hope y'all enjoy them!

In other news... American Idol is somewhat interesting (pretty much just for the British guy being nasty ^_^)...
And just for the heck of it, since I wasn't all that interested, I looked at the first ep of Gensou Maden Saiyuki.
I'm not greatly excited yet. So far, I'm just seeing a show based on bishounen, and that's not enough for me. Weiss Kreuz and Kaikan Phrase are shows like that, and neither thrill me that much...
...So if Saiyuki doesn't get more exciting soon, I'm giving up on it...
Especially since I don't find any of the bishounen all that droolworthy (though they probably look better in the manga).
It's along the lines of: too angular... too young... too whatever... The only character I found interesting so far is Hakkai.
And I recognized his and Sanzo's voices! Hurray for me!
And the bra... I mean that boy Goku has Kain Blueriver's voice... Explains a lot...

And speaking of voices from Lost Universe and Slayers (Ishida Akira - Hakkai - and Xellos from Slayers)...
Matsumoto Yasunori (Gourry! ... and "he who strews darkness" or whatever from LU) does the voice of Chiaki in MoB!
...Yes, I am sort of stuck on that show right now...
And I want to get the novels, too...

What could get me unstuck?
Hmmm...
More Crystal Dragon or A.I. Revolution or volume 3 of Cantarella or more Matendou Sonata or the rest of Ao no Millenium...
Any of those might help...
...In short, a productive trip to the newly opened Mandarake in Santa Monica...
...And to some other places to get newer volumes...

Oh... and if anyone wants to try Crystal Dragon on my very high recommendation, someone's selling 1-11 on ebay right now. It ends 15 hours from the time of this post, though...
...Too bad they're selling them that way...
I have 2,3, 5-11. I need 1, 4, 12-19!

Oh well!

*kyuu*
