Debaters in the Elite Eight for first time ever! Pacific Debate
finishes the year in 9th place nationally. Pacific Speech and Debate travelled to Lubbock, Texas, to compete at the National Parliamentary Debate Association’s national championship tournament from March 17 to March 23, 2010. Out of 60 schools and almost two hundred debate teams, Pacific CH (Will Chamberlain & Sarah Hamid) advanced all the way to the Quarter-Final Round (Top Eight teams in the tournament). This is the farthest a Pacific Debate Team has ever advanced at the NPDA Championships. Additionally, we received our first speaker awards ever: Emily Sheldon was 11th Speaker out of over 350 speakers! Sarah Hamid placed 12th out of all of those speakers! An outstanding achievement. As a squad, Pacific finished 9th in season-long sweepstakes and 11th in Tournament Sweepstakes. Although we have done better as a school, the accomplishments by the individual debaters is a VERY stellar achievement and should be congratulated. She was one of only seven people in the entire nation to be designated an "All-American" this year.

First at Sunset Cliffs This past weekend, Pacific Speech and Debate travelled to Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, CA and competed against 55 other schools from around the country. At the end of the long weekend, Pacific debaters were first in the tournament and Pacific was first in schools! It is a grueling tournament and is often as big as or bigger than the Paul Winters tournament in the Fall. It is a testament to the dedication of all students competing for Pacific that we won the day! Of specific note, is that this is the first time a Pacific debate team has won this tournament (Pacific CH Will Chamberlain & Sarah Hamid) as well as the fact that Emma Henry placed 4th in individual events sweepstakes out of over 100 speakers!
