I just had two VERY ODD people fighting with my animal puppets on my bed for at least a good 2 hours. Beating my poor Guster and Barnaby senseless with their useless fighting.

Ahh, it's been so long since we just gabbed like that, did I ever tell you how much I miss you guys sometimes?

Oh, and since you asked, here's the Jerry Springer inspired reading assignment (roughly translated):

A long long time ago, there was a woman named Abigail. Abigail was very much in love with Gregory, but Gregory lived on the bank on the other side of the river. Abigail wanted to cross the river and meet Gregory, but there were many man-eating (hitokui) crocodiles in the river, and the only bridge has sunken. So, Abigail asked (kanji I can't recognize) Sinbad if he would take her across the river. Sinbad said, "If you sleep with me then with pleasure," and Abigail got mad and went to her friend Ivan to consult. (This next sentence I'm not sure I understand correctly) Ivan said, "That kind of thing, it's not really a relationship..." so Abigail was disappointed and left to go home. At that point Abigail thought of nothing but accepting Sinbad's words and that night she went to Sinbad's place. The next day, Sinbad took Abigail to the other side of the river.

(This next part a little unclear) Abigail met Gregory and she told him how she felt there was nothing else she could do but sleep with Sinbad. When Gregory heard this he got angry and yelled, "I don't want to see a woman who's already slept with another man! Go over there!" Abigail (I think?) left and went somewhere. Abigail was sad and cried as much as she could but gradually she became angry. She went to her friend Slug's place and while crying, she complained to him, and Slug thought poor Abigail and went to go punish Gregory. Abigail became happy and with a loud voice laughed.

Owari desu.

Ahh, weekend...

We had a mini-crisis at Knapp today - we needed a digital videocamera a student was suppose to return ASAP because all the other cameras were out and the Shakespeare society really needed it. I'm sorry all this stuff came down on your shift! And on a Friday afternoon, too. So I ended up overstaying at Knapp by an hour (I didn't stay long enough to see how the issue was resolved, though - am curious), and by the time I got back to my room I felt really really drained. So, that's my very very very lame excuse for not coming to the Brattle theater with you guys - my apologies.

Couldn't get any tickets for the WASAC Culture Show at Schneider and I really didn't feel like camping outside Jewett for hours to secure a seat - which I would have needed to have done, because the show is suppose to be mad huge and mad popular. Duurn. I hear great things about it but I've never been and probably will not now.

MoveOn.org is trying to muster support for public showings of this documentary and I'm on their list of possible sponsers for a showing. I like the idea of publicizing this film since it sounds like it's got real, solid arguments that might make people think about this stupid war, and it seems like a relatively easy event to plan (get a room through Special Events, publicize, pop the DVD in the player)... but I don't understand why they want to schedule the showings all at the same time to have a "phone" conference. Well, I hope they decide soon whether or not to go through with it - I'm very curious to see how this documentary will play out.

Congrats, you two, on writing the most PERVERTED THINGS I've ever seen on the anime conference. Actually, it's all your fault for that AWFUL SCREENSHOT OF SOUSUKE! Why you gotta show me these things and give me such grief?!?!

Here's a relatively innocent part of the thread:

Chemical Weapons Expert: You know, that sounds REEEEEEALLY wrong if taken out of context. Hell, it sounds wrong *in* context. Oh hell, I give up. If I'm diggin' myself a hole, might as well put a bed in it and get cozy.

Fearless Military Leader: That sounds bad no matter which way you slice it. I'll join you in your hole. Which sounds even worse. Oh well, screw it.

Fearless Military Leader: Not literally.

*plops onto chair* FINALLY! Astro exam over with - and those jobs in Collins with the weird German films done tonight! Plus that extra job I picked up for Bocchan (I nearly fell asleep while the lady was talking about Islamic calligraphy - it was interesting, but she was using a powerpoint presentation so the lights were dim...). I'm so mad at myself about last night. Went to bed at 5, woke up about half a dozen times (not exaggerating) between lik 8:30 and 10 AM when I finally decided to get out of bed. No alarms, no noisy neighbors - I just couldn't stay asleep for some reason. ARGH. I hate it when my body revolts like this!!

Anyway... thank you for the dye - I'm going to use it soon as I got some time. I'm sorry your interview didn't go as well as you wanted, but I seriously hope you don't blow a blood vessel with all this stressing. $60 in Vegas ain't bad, man, but I'm disappointed you didn't do anything other than eat drink and gamble.

HEY, what's wrong with looking up stuff about Seki Tomokazu?! He's a very interesting person, okay? Not totally off the scale like Gackt or Koyappi, but not quite normal either (yes you've convinced me somewhat Candy). What would you have me do? STUDY ASTRONOMY?

Why the heck were you looking up Care Bear lyrics?

Ara. Astro exam tomorrow. I was really good and rewrote my notes for 3 hours tonight but now that I'm back in my room - well, just watch the flurry of posts on Pitas and elsewhere.

And - I don't know if this was such a good idea - but I agreed to cover a job for Bocchan tomorrow which means I'll be working straight from 4:30-9:30 with no dinner break, rushing from her job to mine. Eek. Well, at least there's no Japanese class tomorrow *bounce bounce*

I happen to like Pitas very much ^_^ so I'm not really interested in moving to LiveJournal, although yes the Tag Board thing is annoying - the Zonk board I had before was much better, but I had to switch when they decided to start charging people. Pitas & Tag Board = FREE! And as we all know by now I am a cheap bastard (or, um... bitch ^_^).

As for Maine vs. West Virginia - well, at least you don't have the redneck stereotype hanging over yer heads. Also, the obesity issue and the population age issue - I think our state is ranked #1 in obesity, #1 in heart disease, #1 in elderly population, #1 in decreasing population overall, #1 in number of people reliant on Social Security/Medicare/etc... Well I could be very wrong about the exact numbers but those are definitely trends. Hmmm, I've gotten into so many "WV vs. New Jersey" debates before, I'm suspecting a pattern of some sorts... *sweatdrop*

And dude, I don't mind the "spamming" of the Tag Board - I was seriously worried that no one was reading my blog! Not to mention jealous of the activity Tam's Tag Board was getting.

If I haven't said this already, your baby picture is very cute. Same one in Knapp ain't it?

It sounds like you and your professor have some love/hate relationship going. Why do you torture yourself so?

And I think I have a right to knock California considering how every message you leave me is basically bragging about HOW YOU HAVE NO WORK TO DO! So seriously. How much money did you lose in Vegas???

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Wednesday, November 12, 2003 12:35 a.m.

What do I think about it?

Well, the person forgot about Silence of the Lambs (Starling's a West Virginian, remember?). To be quite truthful I haven't seen any of those movies mentioned, at all. So I can't dispute anything. I *can* confirm, though, that yes you'd have to either get drunk or high on OxyContin in order to entertain yourself most of the time. (Don't worry, I don't do either.) So, yeah, I guess we've yet to see a decent film involving West Virginia. At least we'll always have that John Denver song that's so darn popular in Japan!

And I do indeed appreciate the Calvin and Hobbes image up there. ^_^ Who's B, though? And is this really how you spend your free time in Cally? ^_~

Good luck with your next round of interviews! So does this mean I can really rely on you for my retirement plan? 'Cause trust me, as of right now, I'm gonna need it.

If you by any chance find out about some other programs besides JET, Earlham, and Aeon, please let me know... MonsterTrak is not doing me much good here, although at least Aeon got their site to work. Maybe I should pester the Luce people into seeing how they secured those internships they offer in Japan? (But they rejected me 2 years in a row! But then maybe that's all the more reason to pester them?)

You certainly disappeared for a while. So how much did you lose in Las Vegas this time?

And I don't know if you read this blog, but YOU need to gimme updates a bit more often than you are doing right now! Meanie! Meanie!

The purple is as good as gone from my hair, and has been for a few days now. Damn Jerome Russell. So what do I do, stick with purple (but find another brand), or try red again (which I like a lot), or blue (which I could probably get at CVS), or just go straight back to black? If you could donate your leftover purple ^_^ that would be nice... but anyone else who has a dissenting opinion, cast your vote (hit my tag board)...

GULAG. Whadda day.

If you didn't go to the Chaucer vs. Shakespeare debate you missed out big time. Chaos. Pandemonium. Cat calls. Cheers and jeers. And the Shakespeare professor showing his tattoo and declaring that he could drive his minivan through the conventions the Chaucer professor attributed to Chaucer. What was shocking, though, was in the end Chaucer WON. Granted, the Chaucer professor did the better arguing, but I thought in the end their arguments canceled each other out. Both sides acknowledged that Chaucer influenced Shakespeare and that Shakespeare is immensely more popular than Chaucer. So, I was thinking, aren't they reliant upon each other? Shakespeare on Chaucer for creating so many conventions used in English, and Chaucer on Shakespeare for keeping his influence alive and making them more accessible?... I need to stop thinking in circles and get to something more interesting ^_^

Speaking of which, I nearly had a aneurism when I realized what our next assignment in Japanese was. Conveniently I skipped class today (heh) because I didn't have the energy to sustain a late-nighter in getting the homework done, and there was no way I could have done it any earlier. We have to (in the same pairs) lead a discussion for FIFTY MINUTES on a subject, present both sides of an argument, and each of us defend one side. GAAAAH. But actually Naka-chan and I decided on an anime-related subject that suddenly made the task seem less daunting. It'll still be a pain to do, probably, but at least it won't be a dragging one.

Oh good grief these next few weeks are probably going to kill me.

Yes I added the Anti-Weenie faction over there ^_^ and now that I've discovered Te-chan's blog her office is going up there too. So what IS Isabel's rank and office?

Talk about getting psyched for our Shakespeare performance project - we are going to skank Teresa up so badly. I'm glad she was cast as Tamora and not me =D I get to be relatively normal as Lucius.

Did you get a glimpse of the sky tonight? Like, this first time in WEEKS it's been clear on a weeknight, so I did some observing at the obs tonight. These observing projects, the "creative parody" for Novel, the performance project for Shakespeare, all these little things are going to do me in... plus the hunt for jobs, still need a third recommendation. AAAAAAH. And an astro exam Thursday!... Sorry if it seems like I'm just going on a stream of conscious here but it's just one of those days where Monday definitely doesn't feel like Monday.

Hey Madame X, how was that new Colin Firth movie? It's been so long since I've heard about new films coming out... somehow it completely slipped by me that the new Matrix was coming out (over which I could care less, because I'm more interested in the X2 DVD coming out this month). Once I get my hand on that DVD I am going to make you sit through both movies because I find it absolutely appalling that you haven't seen EITHER of them! But anyway, yeah, must check out them new releases... the only one I vaguely know about would be the Return of the King (ooooooh). But yeah, Colin Firth and Liam Neeson... Hey you, how was Lost in Translation? I'm sorry but the idea of seeing *another* movie with Sophia Coppola makes me want to retch (see: Godfather part III). The new Joseph Fiennes movie about Martin Luther is out too - hmmm, Ralph's little brother with a weird 'do? Do I really want to see that?

Jordan's is showing something called Santa vs. the Snowman in IMAX 3D. What the hell????

May I just say I love laughing at you. If you were to come visit me now I'd be laughing my pants off. ::evil cackles::

I can't believe how damn good the White Stripes are! I've been listening to them lots lately (except the battery died in my mp3 player on the bus back to Swellesley - boo hoo), and I want to be the next Meg White! The drumming sounds relatively simple on most of the songs but it's still incredibly awesome. *squeals* I love finding new obsessions! (Well, they're not at "obsession" level yet... maybe I need Princess Tutu for that)

I bought the syncopation book my drumming instructor told me to get, so now maybe I'm taking a step closer to becoming like Meg White. (Or Dave Grohl =)

Off soon to see Henry IV part 1 - I hear it's bully good...

A subject I had meant not to harp on, but...

Oh my. I wasn't going to write any more tonight but I first saw this on MSNBC (I don't watch TV so of course I don't watch Diane Sawyer), and it really surprised me. Remember, my home is no more than about two hours from hers, and the local media were really trumping her return home despite initial claims that the welcoming home ceremony was going to be small and non-intrusive. Despite my initial intention not to think too much on the subject of Jessica Lynch (because if anyone deserves a break from the stupid media/publicity/all that jazz, it's her), I really admire the fact that she's speaking out about the military's maniuplation of her rescue and the media's whole obsession with her. I mean, speaking out against the MILITARY cannot be an easy thing to do; and being completely humble and self-deprecating of the heroism ascribed to her... that must also take some guts. To put it succinctly. Besides, even if she didn't pull the trigger she still went through an abominable hell.

Right, am really getting off the computer now.

Time to update!

I would mention something about drumming except Kitsu has my drumsticks at the moment. It turns out that the drums belong to Prism Jazz and not the music department @_o Oooops. Well, the coordinator who emails me every week gave me the impression that the drums were the department's! And apparently I did come off as quite angry in my email to Prism Jazz because they weren't too happy in their reply back. Well, I apologized to them, but I'm still puzzling over the fact that I'm using their drumset, because why then would I pay the department/the college to use the kit if it really doesn't belong to them? And why didn't the coordinator ever get back to me about priority on using the drums? 2 + 2 is not making 4 here.

There's a Shakespeare vs. Chaucer debate happening this Tuesday and all us nerdy English majors are getting RILED UP! Yes it's sad but we are indeed getting excited about this debate, over who is "better" - good ol' Billy Shakespeare, or Chaucer, whom I've never even read? And this whole "let's call our professor 'Romeo'" thing - it's really sad how much we live vicariously through our PROFESSORS.

I feel like I've been working myself to the ground - I wonder how many hours each week I've been devoting to Knapp lately? Next week I have four jobs lined up, which for me is a LOT, especially if you look at how much I worked last year (practically no jobs claimed).

I hope I don't keep this working pace up next semester because - dork that I am - I've lined up five classes in my schedule. "Last semester at college, I'll take it easy" - NOT! Originally I was going to take just three, then I added four, but could technically only register for three this week (stupid Japanese registering issue with the website - I'll have to add it next semester)... and then I decided to add a fourth class officially, making it five unofficially. Ack. Well, two are needed for the astro minor; one is Japanese second semester (but if I don't pass *this* semester, then I guess I won't have to worry about taking it in the spring now, will I!); one is an intro Chem course on modern drug problems (sounds nerdy but COOL!!); and then at the last minute I decided to add Milton since I hear the professor who teaches it is absolutely great. Though, I technically don't need it since I'll be finished with my English major this semester. Ahh, and to think next semester I also have to continue the stupid job search...

Speaking of which, there's another Japan teaching program I'm applying to, the one sponsered by Earlham College. And Earlham's program, although they don't have as much detailed information as JET, seems more lax yet just as reputable, AND... you can either start in August OR April. Waiting until the April after graduation to start working might sound like a long time, but considering the surgery issue, it might be a saving grace for me. There's no set deadline but they say most people apply between September and January, so I think I'll try finishing this one around the same time as the JET one is due (it will be easier in the long run I'm sure). But - ahh! This is SO deja vu - it's the Luce internship all over again... I'll just go ahead and say now, if JET and Earlham are going to reject me, they could at least be better about it than Luce was.

(back to singing to herself) Fumo, fumo fumo fumo, fumo!

Some things I severely would retch at: dubbed anime, stupid politics, religious and ignorant zealots, loud or messy neighbors, going into debt, losing hair, etc.
