New Images On Export. Ish
Right, self promotion out the way (hey I have to link to something), I got this e-mail today. It's about a virus that's diguised as "Family Pictures" or something.
Why, if you want to spread a virus, disguise it as family pictures? Why are all virus disguises so lame? I don't understand it. Virus people are clever enough to come up with the virus, but not to disguise it as something decent that won't be caught out within seconds by someone like me who doesn't actually ever get family pictures.
Ah well, maybe they're for Americans. I hear they get loads of family pictures this time of year.
And now I'm gonna come up in all sorts of search engines for people looking for pictures of families. Joy.
That e-mail in full then:

Subject: ""Virus Alert"" ????? ""Virus Alert""
DO NOT OPEN "NEW PICTURES OF FAMILY" It is a virus that will erase your whole "C" drive. It will come to you in the form of an E-Mail from a familiar person. I repeat a friend sent it to me, but called & warned me before I opened it. He was not so lucky and now he cant even start his computer!
Forward this to everyone in your address book. I would rather receive this 25 times than not at all. Also: Intel announced that a new and very destructive virus was discovered recently. If you receive an email called "FAMILY PICTURES," do not open it. Delete it right away! This virus removes all dynamic link libraries (.dll files) from your computer. Your computer will not be able to boot up.

Right, who else thought that was actually, in fact, completely bollix. I mean, after telling me all about family pictures, they go on to say "also:" and tell me all about family pictures again. What is the kick people get out of forwarded mail? It makes no sense.... kids, eh?

Nothing Is Actually Important
Middle column. The great question of priorities. "Okay, mate, there are more important things to worry about than Sega and Nintendo".
Tell whoever says that to you next to piss off. Because unless they're actually doing something about those "more important things" then what difference does it make to them? Sure, there are human lives at stake every single day, but I'm honestly not about to go out there and make a difference. That much is obvious. And since I'm not out there making a difference, then why should I talk about it, with the slight undertones of hypocricy that brings. In my small pathetic world, the state of Graphic Design or the debate between analogue and digital joypads is high priority. It might not put food on the table, it might not save the lives of refuges in Kosovo, but it stops me from slowly going insane knowing that I'm not actually an integral wheel in the clogged industrial complex that is this world. Because if I did stop to think about the important things, I'd probably just stop altogether. There are too many of them. And if I don't draw a line, and then step back from it, my head will explode.
In the immortal words of Irvine Welsh (personified by Ewan McGreggor in Trainspotting) "I chose not to choose life. I chose something else".
And I always will.

It's Only A Game, So...
A surpringly messy website for a really good game that I will hopefully get some time this year. Yes, I know I'm behind on the Playstation times, but give me a break, I've hardly touched the machine in the last year. Now I'm ready to take up the challenge again, and this is how I'm gonna do it. Kinda.

Still Good, If Under Done
A five word review of McCoy.co.uk. Now, on to real business.
I've been thinking. Today I really wanted something to happen, but it didn't. Before checking whether it had or not, I said to myself, if nothing else goes to plan in life, just let this work. I was bluffing, of course, cuz I new it wasn't going to happen. However it set me to thinking.
If I really did have the power to change destiny, to make something that wouldn't otherwise of happened, happen - but only once - would I ever use that ability? When would something be a big enough event to warrent forcing fate's hand? Granted if I was in a life or death situation, I'd probably use it then, but if I desperately needed a job (like I do now - desperately), or needed something else to go right that could, technically, affect me for years to come... would I use it?
Chances are... no. I would probably die, a nice, natural death, never having used that ability. I'd spend my entire life waiting for a life or death situation, and never actually use it for something else, no matter how big it seemed at the time - because these things are never as big as they seem after the event.
What would you do with that power? Answers on a post card to the usual address, thank you.

Surrounded On All Sides By...
Graphic Design. (Hands up everyone who was thinking "the tyranny of evil men", ppft).
The reason I've been updating less recently isn't because I've been visiting less sites, but because they're all the same. All graphic design sites with a similar look to them and content to snore for. Not that it's bad, but that it doesn't need to be repeated all over the internet. I may occasionally post to a purely visual site, but I prefer them to be clever (like that emotioneric or the poetry thing). Oh well.
The site linked to above is an excellent collection of hand drawn pictures, the likes of which I would have sold all my fingers to be able to do.
Do you ever get the feeling that while you never actually get tired fo having something, you still just want something else? Nah. Me neither....... ummmm....

Apparamently It's Not Surfstation.
When your used to it, everything is a copy of a copy of a copy. Still, the first one looked good, so I guess, by association this one does too. And this one smuggles drugs, so it's hip wit' da kids.

It's Not What It Used To Be
It's kinda losing it touch, perhaps as the artist himself gets more and more macabre, taking every phrase to mean something stupidly scary, but it's still pretty bloody good. This one especially. Yikes.

Now That's What I Call Brains
Ignore any other person who claims to have had "one or two good ideas in their time". Unless they came up with this, they're wrong.

The Look Of Genuis
It's true. The new Exploding Dog....
Which reminds me...

Photoboy
Nintendo sponsored a gallery for photographers to take photos inspired by the different Gameboy Color... um... colours.
But instead of being boring corporate nonsense, some were actually quite good. One or two were amazing - find the butterfly one, oooh.
Actually, I wasn't expecting them to be boring old corporate nonsense. These corporate sponsored creative events rarely are - marketing execs know that would be pointless.

There's New In Them There Hills
New stuff on mitDR.com this week: Quicktime Movies of the video for Grammy Winners, and some adverts and TV idents too. Also up for grabs are latest pages from their forthcomign book (which is superslick) and some other random stuff.
I had something else to say about something else but I forgot it. I do remember the amazing fact I had about my theories on why "Singing In The Rain" is actually a paradoxical song that eats itself up in a fury of insanity. Like the standalone comment "I'm making an observation". Think about it, and I'll tell you soon.

You Gotta Admit It's Getting Better
It's getting better all the time.
So says some advert, anyway. However, one thing I will say is getting... less crap... is E4. Actually that's not true, it's getting worse. However, the thing about E4 was always that it was a generally average channel with very high highlights. It's like your favourite album, becuase, although 7 of the songs are rubbish, the 3 good songs are your favourite songs in the world ever. Kinda.
Anyway, the latest thing that makes E4 good again is (nobleandsilver) which is supergenius incarnate. And they've got a tramp baiting game on the E4 website to add to the madness. Check, check, checkitout! (as Craaaig David might say were he remixed by Blacksmith. Or something).

Obligatory Invent.Update
It's changed again. More of a remix than a complete overhaul, but then we were always remix fans. Bass in the place! Heheh...
Anyhoo, it's worth looking at, although the emphasis has (as with the last update) shifted to make this virtually a journal site with a couple of added extras. But hey, it's a journal I can sit through, and I can hardly read my own, so that's recommendation enough.

The End Is Nigh
For some unknown reason Freeserve had destroyed my Generik account, meaning I can't pick up any of the e-mails I may have received over the past week. I don't know why or what I'm supposed to do about it thought. It's quite bugging me actually.
Oh well, I'll think of something, then you'll just have one week to wait for the absolute barrage of updates that I'm gonna send to that selfsame website.
If I can't sort it out, then I guess I'll just have to strip it down and start again... which wouldn't be much of a problem either... heh...
