last night
Okay so I didn't finish 3 books this month. Not even one. Pathetic. But I did cancel Netflix so I should be back in bookworm mode soon. I am sad about not having netflix anymore but I know its for the best... oh and my parents don't have a dvd player.
Packing took longer than expected. It might have had something to do with getting sucked into a Real World marathon. I tried to break away but, damn it, they're in Paris and I love Paris.

keeping austin weird
I can't think of a better way to have spent my last weekend in the heart of Austin. Cathy and I definitely did our best to support local businesses. Crown, Antone's, Guero's, Frank&Angies, Kerbey Lane, Hyde Park B&G, Manju's, Dobie, just to name a few. Movies, swimming, sun, food, music... what a fabulous vacation.
I had so much fun that now work is even more unbearable if thats possible. Ugh.

I love Bill Maher
I'm so happy Real Time is starting up again. I watched his hour special tonight which was hilarious and right-on. I used to cringe when he would start talking about his views on women and relationships. But I think I'm starting to agree with him on that too. I realize I'm not the type of woman he's criticizing.
I moved most of my stuff to my parents today. Things I have to look forward to:
- my mothers cooking
- no rent
- my own bathroom
- one indoor cat and one indoor cat only
- a macintosh
- waking up w/ the coffee already made
- no sirens from I-35
- the north gold's gym just has to be better than the ghetto I-35 gold's
- did I mention my mother's cooking?
I so meant to take tomorrow off. I forgot its Colombian Independance Day. My parents are going to a celebration at a park off Wells Branch. I'm going to try and make it before work so I can eat some of the good food I know is going to be there. If I can just make it through the next couple of weeks of work then I can say I only have 3 months left. And somehow that makes me feel better.

I want color
Thanks Erika, for the overtime notice. As many alerts and e-mail lists that I'm signed up for, I didn't know about the latest place Bush's tentacles had reached. How far back does he want to go? Was my history class the only one that pointed out that the greatness of the 50's was a total facade. Its like we're trapped like Reece and Tobey in Pleasantville but nothing is changing into color! We're trying are hardest just to stay in black and white.

And if I say to you tomorrow
Take my hand, child, come with me
Its to a castle I will take you
Where what's to be, they say will be
And if you say to me tomorrow
Oh what fun it all would be
Then what's to stop us, pretty baby,
But what is and what should never be
So if you wake up with the sunrise
And all your dreams are still as new,
And happiness is what you need so bad,
Girl, the answer lies with you

small world
So I was searching google for a website that has spoilers for sex and the city and eventually ended up on a blog for a guy in Mozambique with the Peace corps. So I'm adding it to my links before I forget that I want to go back to it.

Proof of global warming...
Rain in July. Usually by now the drought warnings are out and you can kiss your lawn and garden goodbye. But this year was a rainy 4th. So I decided not to make the 3 hour drive on wet roads to Leakey (pronounced "lakey"). Which I didn't really want to do because I was slightly hungover and pretty tired. Stayed home and packed up some more stuff. On Saturday night I went so see Terminator 3 with my parents. The whole movie is just a set up for more sequels. Very annoying.
So even though I had sunday off, Monday was such a nightmare that I'm already exhausted and dreading 2 more days of work. Oddly enough, working GRE problems at work actually makes the day better. I don't quite get why knowing that the angles of triangle add up to 180 means I'd do well in grad school but who am I to question? But if y'all have any other tips for surviving a day at work, please share!

weekend wrap up
Well I did something I said I would never do ever again... I sold books to half price. I was already planning on getting rid of trash fiction there was no need for me to own like the The Thorn Birds! But it got a little harder to part with my fresman biology text and good books I'll never read again like Memoirs of a Geisha and The Perfect Storm. But there was no way to part with favorites like Life of Pi, The God of Small Things and Bridget Jone's Diary. So to my parents dismay, I still brought over 4 big and heavy boxes to take up precious space in their lovely new home. They'll deal.
Another family slumber party at my parents on Saturday night. After playing with my nephew, who loves me so much he couldn't bear the fact I was asleep at 8am sunday morning and proceeded to yell my name very loudly till I got up, I turned my attention to my dad's fabulous macintosh. I searched itunes for over an hour for songs I'll be able to download to my ipod in just a couple of months. Exclusives from U2, Audioslave, Massive Attack. Singles from artists whose CD I would never buy like JLo, Pink, and Beyonce. Can't wait.
So yeah pretty boring weekend. I came home after work on sunday to a very messy house. For this reason, and many others, I officially hate my roommate and refuse to stay in touch with her after I move out. Why do I always get stuck with crappy roommates? But hopefully she won't be back for the rest of the month and I can enjoy one more month of this happy house.
Goals for the month:
- Start studying for the GRE.
- Work on applications for Peace Corps and FIU.
- Finish at least 3 books.
- Go to all my favorite places while they're still only 10 minutes away.
